So, as someone who's seen Gokaiger, the explanation for why the Gokaigers weren't just handed the powers all at once is because the Gokaigers didn't give a shit about being a Sentai. They knew nothing about the previous teams and were only looking for treasure. So the previous Sentai would test them in order to see if their hearts were really in the fight. The whole point of the show is the Gokaigers learning to love being Sentai. Which they do. When they find the treasure they were looking for, the only way to activate its power is to basically erase all previous Super Sentai. They spend a few episodes figuring out if they want to do it, then ultimately decide that they love being Super Sentai too much to actually do it and fight the ultimate villain. It's just a nice little bit of storytelling that I feel could have been done in Megaforce, but the writers were too lazy to do.
That's super cool.
This is why I love Gokaiger
In Super Megaforce they did the opposite of the Super Sentai version. While the five main Gokaiger rangers are alien rangers and the Silver Ranger is from Earth, in Super Megaforce the five main Super Megaforce rangers are from Earth whereas the Silver Ranger is the alien ranger hence why it didn't work. Even worst was they did skipped a ton of the Sentai tribute episodes such as the SPD, GoGoV, Kakuranger, and Zyuranger tributes. The Kakuranger one even brought back Ninjaman (Ninjor) which would had been something cool to see in Super Megaforce to be seeing Ninjor back but no Super Megaforce wants none of that.

Also, the powers/ultimate powers for the previous teams allowed sentai forms, but no the powers for their zords

I think Ciara Hanna (Gia's actress), said that the reason that there was no development in the Jake and Gia relationship is because any attempts the two made to do more with it was shot down. Apparently the kiss was an improvised moment, I have to admit that I do feel bad for the cast of this show, because you can tell that they wanted to do more but got bugger all to work with. Not that it excuses the trainwreck that Megaforce was.
I feel so bad for the cast cause they were asking for ACTUAL character work and they were denied. They wanted to make the show good but the Tzachor being Tzachor, said "nah we don't do that here"
If Judd Lynn did the season it would have been a lot better Thankfully he came back next time. Sure he wasn't perfect but he was better than Tzachor.
So that the Megaforce cast gets more to do in my readptation of Gokaiger I am keeping the cast as their characters (except I switched Noah and Jake's colors)

a lot of the cast and crew on the show felt Tzachor wanted this to fail and he is doing what ever he can to see the season fail.
One minor thing I haven't seen anyone mention: when Tommy's rescuing the kid from the car, they superimpose the White Ranger helmet on him, and have him holding Saba. Yet during the actual Legendary Battle, he's in the Green Ranger suit. If they really thought kids were so stupid that they wouldn't care about anything besides fight scenes, how did they not think that would confuse them?
I really, REALLY hate the "children won't care" excuse because my cousin and i grew with the show and believe me as young as we were, we CARED, stuff like the timeline of time force and spd, what happened to the zeo powers, and so on.

I just caught that. So why have the superimposed WHITE RANGER helmet if he was gonna use the Green Ranger form? Why not have the helmet be the Green Ranger one and have Tommy hold the Dragon Dagger
@@gokairedwillcipher two reasons: #1, they wanted to capitalize on Tommy's staus as the ranger with the most colors as much as possible and he was just as popular, if not moreso, as the white ranger, and #2, Saba is quite a bit longer than the Dragon Dagger, so if you're going to try to use a weapon as something for people to grab onto, you want something longer.
If he had the master morpher at that point at least it would had made sense.

Want an even bigger nail in the coffin that is megaforce? Gokaiger is getting a “10 years after” special movie. Sentai knows how big Gokaiger is. They appeared plenty of times after their initial show. It’s THAT good 👍🏾
It's that good because the makers of Gokaiger gave more of a damn than the Megaforce crew (though I can't say no one over there didn't give a damn to begin with). With Gokaiger, we'd like to see a follow up or alike in the future because as an anniversary season, it was great. And as a standalone season, it was also great.
And the Gokai Galleon Armor is the middle finger to Super MegaForce.
And that anniversary special was awesome!
outof every sentai it's one of the few to make it into Super Robot Wars mobile game, out of the 40 something sentai only 3 have actually made it in, Zyuranger, Gokaiger and Zenkaiger
Saban created Power Rangers, so you'd think they'd understand how important the history of the franchise is. Yet the moment they get their hands back on it, they proceed to drive it into the ground. It's not until Hasbro takes over that we actually get homages and team-ups that are somewhat respectful to the history of the franchise. I do not understand this.
Carter Grayson is one of those ageless people. He just gets better-looking the older he gets.

Sentai's got a similar actor: Kenji Ohba. Dude had 3 major Toku roles during the 70s, 2 Rangers and a Metal Hero. He's had cameos in a number of other seasons, and reprised all three of his major roles in Gokaiger. He aged majestically since the 70s.

You know what I realized watching this back? You don't even need fly actors out to New Zealand to have them do cameos. Just have them do some voiceover and dub the lines over a stunt guy in a ranger suit.
They did a whole movie/double-length episode like that for samurai, so why not do that once or twice an episode? THEN you have them all show up in the finale and take their helmets off for the final battle. It could have absolutely worked.
There's some stuff about Megaforce and the unused footage that bugs me.
There is a character in Gokaiger named Basco, who is a reoccurring villain in the season. Half of his appearances are literally in tribute episodes to Sentai that were adapted into Power Rangers. But here's the catch: He was a normal actor and wasn't voicing a monster (most of the time). How could they possibly have gotten around that? Well here's another thing: HE SPEAKS PERFECT ENGLISH AND SAID THAT HE'D BE HAPPY TO FLY TO NEW ZEALAND AND FILM ORIGINAL FOOTAGE WITH THE MEGAFORCE RANGERS. So instead of taking the offer that was basically handed to them and using it to help streamline adapting Gokaiger, they just straight up didn't adapt his character meaning we also lost an opportunity for a Zeo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, and Lightspeed Rescue tribute.
In the Timeranger tribute episode (an episode that easily could've gotten adapted for a Time Force tribute), they go back to during Goseiger vs Shinkenger, where Ninjaman makes an appearance. As we know, Ninjaman was adapted into Ninjor. Ninjor disappeared during Season 3 and never made a reappearance afterward. So they had an opportunity to bring back Ninjor AND also make a tribute episode for an extremely popular season, and yet never adapted this episode at all!

Yes but that would take effort, something they very seriously did not want to put into anything. Honestly this should have been a stand alone season hell they should have just either dubbed or reshot the senti, at least then it would all make sense. If they had a brain the legendary battle should have just followed the senti as well, being a movie or a great finale to mega force with cameos and the megazord footage, that was a stupid missed opportunity that they could have cashed in on, not just with the movie but a ton of megazord toys (let’s not forget this is after all one big toy commercial). They could have set up the new team properly and had a much better season. I would have loved to see Bosco in it, with that and it being it’s own season, without cyborg actors, would have made it so much better

Oh boy, when we have to say once a ranger is the best episode in operation overdrive is really not saying much, as the episode was terrible save for the past rangers, especially JYB as adam coming back to help the team, but of course when the overdrive rangers lose their powers they just bitch and whine and quit being rangers only to go back after realizing their old jobs are boring compared to being rangers, the only reason they want to find a way to get their powers back
What's even funnier is that all the villains and monsters in Operation Overdrive are designed after the zords from the past, one example is Moltor who is designed after the original Mighty Morphin Megazord.

I actually did speak to Jessica Ray Who played Alyssa from Power Rangers wild force at Power morphicon 2018 I asked her was she approached to make an appearance in megaforce and she said yes they did reach out to her but she also declined the offer because she needed more time to plan the trip meaning her invitation went out at the last minute
That sounds about right. A _bunch_ of former rangers have said they didn't appear in crossovers because they were offered the gig with way too short of notice.
So did they really think that they can drop everything and fly to New Zealand on very short notice? Talk about idiots.

The ship, the weapons, even the fighting style is pure pirate fun, I’d watch the hell out of that.
A Captain Jack Sparrow type of 6th Ranger - or even Red Ranger - might’ve been fun. Someone maybe a little too laid back, with literally no honor, and it turns out he was forced to join the Rangers, and eventually accepts the mantle and succeeds where others cannot.

When you realize the finale of Megaforce is basically a crappy version of Endgame's climax that came out years before Endgame.
Imagine if Vision suddenly showed up out of nowhere in the middle of the battle, and Tony was just like, "Hey what's up, buddy." and that was it...
More like a crappy version of Gokaigers prologue fight.
It's the Endgame climax without any weight to it. That saw the culmination of a decade's worth of story, containing interesting characters who actually had personalities and character development, and it was a massively consequential fight against a maniac who had wiped out half of the universe before and was about to kill _everyone_ this time. All the heroes who'd been erased by Thanos five years earlier in-universe came back ready to kick his and his huge army's ass, only missing those who'd been lost before and after the snap. And while the named body count on the hero's side for the final fight amounted to one person, that one person was a central character and made a sacrifice that finally destroyed Thanos. Plus, the previous loss of heroes made it all the more important that the surviving ones finish the fight and ensure their sacrifice wasn't in vain. You could actually get invested in the fight beyond the surface-level draw of all the MCU heroes teaming up.
The Legendary Battle, on the other hand, carries no weight to it. The fleet's been destroyed, all its leaders are dead, and it only cost the Megaforce Rangers one robot ally and their Zords. All that's left is a leaderless army of mooks, with a bunch of ranger teams who might not even be the real rangers suddenly showing up to assist the new team, and they just cut through the horde without taking any losses; hell, it's negative 1 losses because Robo Knight inexplicably resurrects himself. No emotional connection, no catharsis, no sacrifice, no real characters except ones who'd already finished their journeys in previous seasons; just beat up a bunch of X Borgs and call it "Legendary" because past rangers are involved. Way to fucking go.
Also a shitty version of Countdown to Destruction.

From what I heard in interviews and behind the scenes information about the show, it was almost like the producer Jonathan Tzachor was going full Sixth Doctor Era and trying to get Power Rangers cancelled. I mean why not? He clearly didn’t care about satisfying the fans or taking advise on improving the show from the cast and writers. He wanted to make Megaforce shot for shot and treated any outside ideas like toxic because I guess he wanted to preserve the original Goseiger and Gokaiger whether they fit together or not. I feel so bad for the cast and writers. They deserved better.

The shame is a complete dubbing of the sentai actually may have resulted in a better show. The sentai actually had tribute episodes that tied back to power rangers, the Sentai teams were there anyways, and the nonsensical plots from the Sentai were in there too. This season honestly seemed bordering on malicious and I agree that it seems like the show was forced to use super megaforce. There was nearly no effort put into the show, minimal character growth, and insane 'tributes' that did nothing to make the fans happy.
So, in conclusion, alongside Rian Johnson, who made the worst Star Wars Movie ever and as a result ALL of New Star Wars is getting dragged down because of it, Tzachor should be blacklisted from Hollywood and NEVER be allowed near power rangers again.
I'm adding him to my list of people I would refuse any job in my production if I had one.

22:24 I love this part so much, he goes crazy at this scene for this not making any sense for a final time, he goes crazy by laughing, grabbing his gun, and then shooting the gun while laughing insanely 😂😂😂. Also I watched this five part Super Megaforce review because this was when I started becoming a fan of Power Rangers, plus Megaforce and Super Megaforce are my favorite seasons of Power Rangers History.
A common trend I noticed in Super Megaforce, is every battle has an anti-climactic ending.
As Linkara said: "One minute the rangers are crapping their pants about the possibility of millions of ships, and then the next minute... Well that was easy!"
Also, as ShadowACS once said: "To have an exciting story, you need tension. And to have tension, you need a sense that your characters are in real danger."
It's part of the reason I hated that one scene in Overdrive, where Mack one-shots a giant monster on his own and unmorphed. But Megaforce is worse!

The finale is so hollow. The entire situation of the battle feels the same as any other battle, with the only thing indicating that this it was the end of the series was because they kept repeating it. All the characters grew so little that they might as well have been the ones from the first episode. Even when Robo Knight, a character that was close to the main team and had been seemingly killed off in one of the few moments of actual emotion, gets brought back, he only gets greeted with a simple "hi, buddy". How does one screw up so badly at this?
It lacks emotional investment
Compare with the final battle in Avengers: Endgame, where you could hear the public loudly cheering whenever a hero who had been killed previously shows up and challenges Thanos' forces. *That* felt meaningful.
a lot of wasted potential really. though it's extremely easy to blame tzachor for because he tried to translate it without proper context.
personally, vrok would be a perfect final villain had they went with the angle that he was a ranger from 10k+ years ago (nearing rita's era) similar to goseiger's counterpart. it would make vrok an interesting villain to write for megaforce because he is an evil ranger, he knows zordon and knows the ranger's powers (for the most parts) inside and out. he also has a strong connection with the morphing grid due to his experience.
They should have had Mavro fight all the Rangers at once

I have had the opportunity to ask Jason David Frank, Austin St. John, Johnny Yong Bosch, and Amy jo johnson about the “team up”
JDF said there were lots of issues but Saban basically asked him as a favor to do it and also not to talk about it anymore.
Johnny said he was invited but he was busy with voice work and declined
Amy was also busy with other projects she did say she was invited and basically uninvited in the course of two phone calls
Austin claims he wasn’t even asked, although he didn’t say it directly he very likely still had beef with saban and likely would not have gone anyways because his and JDF’s beef.
They had a panel at a 2019 con with multiple yellow rangers including zero, time force and light sped but the hosts nixed super mega force questions due to “legal reasons”

Gotta love all the shots of the other older rangers standing completely motionless before the legendary battle begins. Remember all those times in RPM when Ziggy stood still and didn't do anything? Classic Ziggy.
Like Lewis said only like a dozen previous actors were able to come back and it was very last minute like a month before shooting. Some wanted to come back like Johnny Young Busch but he was busy at the time with other projects, some like Amy Jo Johnson wanted to come back but she apparently had her invite rescinded before she had the chance to answer yes or no, some didn’t even get an invite at all.
Also the fact that unfortunately some of the previous actors who were rangers are no longer with us so even if by some miracle they had the budget to get a lot of previous actors they couldn’t get every single one.
The way you ended this episode had more emotional impact than the way this series ended.
It's called "giving a damn". It was something the Megaforce staff had trouble pulling off.
I love your history of power rangers and always will and believe it or not you take the show just as seriously as I do and I'm glad I'm not alone. It has its good points it has its bad points and a lot of times it just needs to be said but no matter which points you point out it's all said with love never hate never animosity never bashing. I think you for every video that I've seen you do amazing work and I am truly proud to be a power ranger brother along with you. May the power protect you and all people who follow this franchise. :-)

@@donb7519 Its effectively a sister series to Super Sentai iirc but definitely "its own thing". If i recall they tend to run concurrently and have crossover with each other.
@@donb7519 Kamen Rider came first in 1971, Sentai was 4 years later with Goranger in 1975, but both were made Shotaro Ishinomori, who also gave us Kikaider, Inazuman, Zubat, and many other heroes.
I'm gonna say this, Overdrive is definitely better, Overdrive has the Mack moment which is better than possibly every scene in megaforce
What's funny is that in Megaforce Troy acts like a robot with little personality and in Overdrive Mack was a robot with personality.

Seriously, trying to take two Senati series with such MASSIVELY different themes and merging them together WITH a 20th anniversary special was a disaster.
Notable is how Ciara Hanna said they pushed smarter stories and the producers openly told "who cares, the audience is five years old." She clearly liked being a Ranger, just not this series.
Yeah and the sad thing is, fans can figure out how to mesh these two different themes together even with the 20th anniversary thing it had.
I'll give props to Ciara for giving a shit about her role as a power ranger and all since she clearly cared about her role much like James Marsters cared about his role in Dragon Ball Evolution.
If Kyuranger was to be adapted, I would happy for her to come back.

That *sounds* weird, but then you can use it as the foundation for some meta-commentary about Megaforce. Maybe after the Megaforce Rangers see how much better the other Ranger teams are, they realize just how much pandering Gosei did towards them and grow to resent him. That’s just me spitballing of course, but its far better then whatever Megaforce had!

18:03 in Gokaiger, Mavro’s equivalent in that show, Emperor Akudos Gil, might be one of the most THREATENING antagonists in all of Super Sentai! Or at least for me he is. He didn’t show up until the last 12 episodes but you can easily believe that this guy commanded the most powerful empire in the universe. On top of also taking a good 5-7 minutes to actually be killed, despite his forces, the Zangyack Empire, probably still having a lot of equipment to probably come back and finish the Gokaigers off, they apparently didn’t know what to do without Akudos and almost fell apart within a year. That’s an impact people!

That line doesn't even make sense. In Gokaiger, the other teams lost their powers to fend off an earlier invasion and said powers turned into the ranger keys the Gokaigers used. The other teams tested the Gokaigers to see if they were worthy and when they were, they decided to trust the pirates. Here, not only have a good chunk of those teams NOT lost their powers, but outside of a couple rangers, none of them have even met the Megaforce rangers before the legendary battle! They are fabricating a storyline that doesn't even exist!

So in the end, I feel Megaforce can be summed up as such. An awfully executed anniversary season that, instead of paying homage to all that came before it and showing that this new team could stand alongside every team that came before, it just spewed out senseless fan service without understanding why the fans loved the show, while doing little if anything to improve upon what makes Power Rangers such a fun, unique and awesome universe. Its a sad thing to see, but at least it did not kill Power Rangers as a whole, a fact I am so thankful for.
This honestly gives the impression that Tzachor didn't care about Power Rangers as a franchise.

You are definitely right lots of Disney / New Zealand power ranger actors really were available I spoke to Anna Hutchinson who played Lily from power rangers jungle fury at New York City comic Con 2019. And she said if they would have reached out to her back in 2014 she would have appeared. And on another occasion I got to interview firass dirani who played Nick from mystic Force and he loved his time on the show and he told me he was upset they that they never reached out to him. So to make a long story short even Disney /New Zealand actors we're very upset that they never got an invitation to appear in Megaforce or even the legendary battle
You would think that at least it would had been cheaper to get the New Zealand Rangers to come back instead of getting the Saban Rangers to do this.But I guess Tzachor still had an grudge with Disney on how Wild Force was handled. Especially with Forever Red.
Well I wouldn't say all the Disney/Kiwi Power Rangers actors wanted to come back, Emma Lahana and James Napier who played Kira and Conner respectively on Dino Thunder had no interest in coming back to Power Rangers.
I forgot why James didn't wanna comeback, but Emma Lahana said that she was being called by her character Kira instead of her actual name so that's why she doesn't want to come back anymore.

Every comment of people who have talked to former Ranger actors who said they would have wanted to show up just makes me more and more frustrated. Both for the actors because this would have been a great last hurrah for some of them as Power Rangers, and for the fans because every series is someone's favorite and they should have gotten to see some of the actors from the series that they loved.
It probably goes without saying, but Damaras gets a better showing in Gokaiger - and the fight with him lasts 2 episodes there so like that helped. And yes, he's still called Damaras in Gokaiger. Frankly, the name works in English so yeah, keep it.
Thinking about it, you could have cut Mavro, had Vekar a young Emperor instead and have it so Damaras takes over after Vekar loses to the Rangers, with hints throughout that he would have done something like it, regardless of whether Vekar won or lost against the Rangers.
So, he leads the Armada in the episodes while having new fight footage to show he's the real threat, while using his defeat from Gokaiger where the Rangers used the legend mecha before using Kanzen Gokai-Oh alongside them to at least have the show have a grander final Zord fight.
As for Levira, she's either forced to fight to earn her place in Damaras' leadership, or stages a fight with the Rangers that allows her to quietly defect without the Armada knowing she survived because she knows it's doom if she stays regardless, though I'd have that legendary Ranger mode fight be a fully original fight to have Mighty Morphin Red, Blue Dairanger (for Season 2 representation), Yellow Alien Ranger, Green Zeo Ranger, Pink Turbo Ranger, and In Space Silver.
I HATED the Legendary Battle. I mean...most of the shots of the other Rangers are SO brief, like blink and you'll miss them, and they only use like four shots total from the Sentai out of like, 40. Because of a Sentai ranger in the background of said shots? Didn't stop them from using the giant group shot of them running...or any teams in the show itself. They just kept cutting back to the Megaforce rangers like....guys, we've put up with you the whole show, we don't want you, we want them.

I love your rant. In a fanfiction somebody assumed that the Morphing Grid couldn't handle all the powers active at the same time for a longer period. He wrote a whole story around that idea in which he basically said that the Morphing Grid could only handle the reactivation of the Entire Power rangers period for a short time. He thinks it is a few hours time of the power and the Legendary Rangers didn't want to morph to assist to prevent the death of the Morphing Grid. How they did the massive "Tommy"-thing with like 5 different active powers for this battle is anyone guess, maybe Time Force or SPD (which did have memory wipe technology) assisted in this aspect?
Seriously, even Samurai, despite having its problems, had a decent finale. I actually felt the anguish of the Rangers failing to seal away Master Xandred, and they even came together to form a battle plan, and the battle plan ended up WORKING. You have Xandred completely decimating the Megazord, and the Rangers resorting to the nuclear option that could easily kill them just so they could save the world. Like Linkara just said, why care about something if it's not being treated like it's a major situation.
Plus, at least each new zord had its own episode rather than it randomly appearing out of nowhere. Like, Kevin nearly died from heat stroke trying to obtain a Swordfish.
I forgot to mention, I find it kind of funny the inversion of team members between Gokaiger and Super Megaforce. In Gokaiger, the main team is all human aliens while Gokai Silver is an Earthling. In Super Megaforce, the main team is all Earthlings with the Silver Ranger being a human alien.
I honestly wish they could've gotten Jason David Frank for an episode where Tommy talks about the various teams he was on (Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Maybe Turbo, & Dino Thunder) to take out multiple birds with one stone. Going from someone initially under the control of Rita. To eventually leading his own team of rangers. Whom he's proud to know fought on without their powers. Just like him (And with the Morphin Master retcons in Dino Fury. I wish they said that Gosei is an old friend of theirs who briefely woke up to restore the powers of the Mystic Force Rangers. And helped the Sentinel Knight pull in Bridge from the future. Regardless of the chance that things like the paradox shown in Once & Always with the forming of SPA)

Not really. It goes against several moments of the show when the rangers are in deep water. The only way that moment could work is if the past rangers found them and told them to keep fighting.
That's because Troy has determination instead of a soul like the monsters from Undertale. Also isn't funny and ironic that in Megaforce Troy acts like a robot with barely any personality but in Operation Overdrive Mack was a robot with personality.
It still amazes me how much they blew every single thing Super Sentai did to handle them stuff in a silver plate for references, story beats and cameos

I just want to make a point I think is only maybe my reading about it but I think is still valid. I think Gia is smarter than she appears to be. There’s a few moments especially in their first season, where she seems to recognize complex scientific concepts but intentionally holds back any information that might make her appear smart. This is a trope but I thought Ciera did it well. It’s just never followed up on in the second season which is why you likely didn’t mention it.
You mean like Jake being a competent fighter and probably the second strongest being reduced to almost comic relief while Noah becomes a badass overnight? They stupidly made actors change to fit their bad editing and choices in the footage, so Gia can’t be smart anymore she just has to be tough…

Okay so...I think I might've come up with a fix-it idea for Super Megaforce. I don't know how many people will read this but here we go:
Instead of Troy being a human, he's an Andresian warrior and the reason he's so emotionless and wooden is because he was taught to suppress his emotions during battle so that he'd have no distractions. He had been sent out on a space mission by his father to fight off a group of space pirates who had stolen "powerful Andresian artifacts". These artifacts are going to be sold to the evil Armada if Troy doesn't get them back. Andresia and the Armada have been in a small war with each other for a while now over these artifacts.
These artifacts turn out to be the Gosei morphers, the cards, and the Ranger keys. Troy's travel ship gets destroyed and he's forced to steal the space pirates' ship because it's now being hunted down by the Armada. The space pirates' ship is also pretty damaged so Troy has to go to the closest planet there is so he can make repairs on it. What's the closest planet? Earth.
He manages to barely outrun the Armada and make it back to Earth where he crash lands in Stone Canyon. Noah, a huge nerd who is obsessed with space, science and UFOs, goes out to look at the crash zone. He's joined by Gia, a tough and courageous girl who is like a big sister to Noah. They're also joined by Jake, the resident jokey guy. They make it out to the crash zone and find the ship which Troy stumbles out of. They try to help him but he bluntly turns them away and tells them to leave.
Noah does a little snooping though and looks around the crashed ship, marveling at its alien technology. Jake jokingly interrogates him but Troy takes it the wrong way and nearly attacks him but Gia defends Jake. As this is going on, Emma (a nature loving vegetarian girl) is studying some butterflies when she sees the smoke from the crash. She rides on her bike to investigate it and finds everybody else. Gia finally asks Troy what's going on and Troy explains that the Armada is looking for the artifacts that they have. Gia says that Troy can't take on the Armada alone but Troy insists that he can. Noah asks if the Armada knows he came to Earth and Troy says that he doesn't think they do...but that's when an alarm on the ship starts to go off. The Armada has entered the Earth's atmosphere looking for the artifacts. Prince Vekar sends a message to the pirate ship's screens, warning Troy that they've found him and that they'll destroy Earth if they need to in order to get the artifacts. Troy sighs and recruits the four teens into becoming the new Power Rangers.
Is this idea perfect? No but I honestly think it's a lot better than what we got. It would give Troy an actual arc and the other characters would have arcs too
So, I'm just gonna drop my dumbass pitch for what they could have done with Megaforce that I think could have been kinda cool.
What if the Megaforce/Super Megaforce powers... were actually the Zeo Powers?

It's one of the few sets of powers that are still around and you could say that after the Zeo Rangers gave up the Zeo powers for the Turbo powers, Zordon sent the Zeo sub-crystal out and those powers, connected to the morphing grid, developed and adapted the powers of other rangers across time and space. The Zeo Powers are supposed to be constantly improving and getting better and without rangers tied to them (except for Tommy in Forever Red, but you could explain that as just "the original sub crystals" while the Megaforce/Zeo 2 Powers are the original crystal) the powers get stronger and stronger. So set the series in Angel Grove and instead of Gosei and Mr. Burley, have Billy be the mentor/school teacher for the rangers. He is monitoring an alien invasion from the Morphing Grid cave and so decides to make a team of Rangers using the Zeo Crystal. Eventually, their bodies have gotten used to the Zeo 2 powers that they can access more parts of the Morphing Grid, which becomes the "Legendary Ranger Powers". I dunno, I think that bringing back and answering the question of "Whatever happened to the Zeo Powers?" Could have made for a cool concept for an anniversary series, especially with how large scale the threat is and how powerful the rangers are supposed to get by the end of the series.

With Ninjas atleast, it makes sense, Ninjas were a sort of warrior after all, it's the same as if they became Knights or something like that, but Pirates were never like that. Pirates were never some sort of famous kind of warrior, to me you really should explain further what the deal is when you give them this weird pirate theme.
Hell it dosent even have to be that deep an explanation, just say it's the suits from a Group of 'Space Explorers who came here' Or something.

Really is a shame they had to waste so much potential with this season. Megaforce really fell back into what things were like during MMPR, but without the charm and effort put into it. Flaws, goofiness, and the like are easy for me to get past if I see effort, something magical and fun. Megaforce just couldn't do it as a whole. Sure, an episode or two, but not enough to save it.
What really irritates me about Megaforce(aside from the obvious mentioned by Linkara and everyone else),
is it felt like they were just straight up copying Mighty Morphin, rather than properly adapting the Sentai.
A good example being the line where Emma talks about the helmet messing up her hair, when that's not her character!
Oh, I wasn't expecting this one to be reuploaded, since part 5 was the only part still upon UA-cam, but I gotta admit I like this version a bit more since you included other series finale clips in the scene where you explain why this has been much better before. Although, I personally would have included more than just Time Force and Wild Force, for base destruction I would have shown the Aquabase being overrun by Batlings, because I thought that was cool, and for overwhelming numbers of footsoldiers I would have used Lost Galaxy's Journey's End with the Stingwingers overwhelming the Strataforce and Centoruous Megazords, but that's just me.
Also, there was a way this finale could have worked at least a bit. Now for this I had to rewrite a lot of other stuff from Megaforce, but I'll only briefly explain what's necessary t know before I explain how I reworked the three-part finale. First, while the Rangers kept their regular Megaforce Powers they lost their Zords by sacrificing them to stop Malcore in episode 18. Second, the only Senti team they turn into is DaiRanger, and that's only because in my version I would have them be the Rangers of Orion's home planet that fell to the Armada when they invaded, thus to build up the Armada as at least a bit of a threat, and still allow us to use the Senti footage of the White Mighty Morphin Ranger fighting with DaiRanger suits, and have Orion actually comment on how it's like he's fighting with his heroes from his home planet. Three, I limited some of the upgrades they got with the Zords, they still got the Delta Runner, the Red Lion, and the Jungle Fury move, because I actually thought if those three episodes were reworked they could have been actually good or decent. They also still got the Turbo Falcon so they could form the Ultra Zord to destroy Vekar. They also still got the Ninja Zord, but not as a powerup from the Ninja Storm Powers, they got it from Ninjor. You see, in Gokaiger, the Gokaiger Rangers actually teamed up with the Senti counterpart of Ninjor, so they have footage of him fighting with the Rangers in the Alien Ranger mode. Thus, if they chose to use that stuff, we could have seen Ninjor again, learn what he's been up to, and he could have given them the Ninja Zord by showing their heart and determination to fight for what's right like the original rangers did. Ninjor would then stick around to help Tensu with a special project, to help restore the powers to Rangers that permanently lost them to help in the fight, thus we wouldn't see Ninjor again until the Finale as he would be off-screen doing this. Lastly, Robo Knight was not completely destroyed in Vrak is back, part of him survived and made it back with Orion with Tensu working on rebuilding him, thus keeping him busy for the Finale too. Now we can begin the three-part Finale:
Part 1: Mavro arrives pissed about his son's deaths, locks both Demours and Levira up for their failures, and decides not to waste any time, planning to summon all the Armada ships to Earth to finally wipe it out, but he needs time for this, so he sends down the Yellow monster that was with him when he arrived but then was never seen again in Megaforce to do just that. The Rangers fight him, he grows, they blow him up, but he laughs as he explodes revealing the entire Armada arriving. The Rangers point out how Vekar's forces they've been fighting this entire time were only about 1000 ships or so strong, while this fleet is easily anywhere between 10000 to 20000. The Rangers put up a good fight and take some ships down, but they don't seemingly destroy the entire fleet, the entire fleet is there from the start and simply overwhelms them, destroying the Zords.
Part 2: Past Rangers arrive and actively help people a lot more and actually fight some of X-Borgs left to guard the people before the Armada returns tomorrow, seeing the past Rangers in action inspires the Megaforce team to keep going and even some regular people help fight off some X-Borgs, before getting helped to safety. The Megaforce team fights the Red guy and the Armada ground forces before Troy and Orion do what they did in the actual episode, with the episode ending with Mavor revealing he survived the crash of his ship and gets ready to fight the Rangers.
Part 3: The fight with Mavro goes the same as in the actual episode, up until Mmarvo blasts them and instead of going into Battlizers, they just demorph. But the Rangers get back up to fight, only to be blasted back more, as all the surviving X-Borgs, Bruisers, and Kings Men arrive, being led by Damours and Levira who also survived the crash and want a chance to redeem themselves to Mavro. So now the 6 Rangers face, Mavro, two monsters, and an army of footsoldiers, and Mavro has already demonstrated why he's so strong, so the situation is dire. Then the Rangers from earlier show up with all the other past Rangers already morphed. Then even Ninjor and a rebuilt Robo Knigth arrive, with Ninjor explaining how they restored the powers of teams that permanently lost there. Then the big finale battle begins a mixture of Senti footage and new footage, Ninor's would be Senti for cost-saving, a few different Rangers would team up to fight Demours, Levira, and Mavro, and we'd get some cool original scenes, like a Lost Galaxy ranger passing a Quasar Saber to another Ranger who uses a sword or melee weapon of some kind(like Cruger from SPD or Ryan from Lightspeed Rescue) for a double strike to take down Demours or Levira, Tommy would lend his shield to another Ranger from another team, like that Instagram picture of Mike wearing the Dragon shield, and the ranger in question would block an attack from Mavro with the shield before counter-attacking, the Phantom Ranger would even show up indirectly as a way to save money but still honor him: We'd have TJ and Cassy surrounded by X-Borgs, but before they close in they get taken out by some invisible force, with Cassy noting it must the Phantom Ranger so they can have him their without needing to actually show him if they don't have the suit, thus saving money and still honroing the past somewhat. After Demours and Levira are destroyed, the reaming footsoldiers and Mavro would be pushed back, and using stock footage of all the Rangers Team that use combined weapon finishers, would be destroyed. The End.
That would have been a far better Legendary Battle than what we actually got.

20:00 I think it's absolutely hilarious that the one Lightspeed morph they did was Lightspeed Blue, and yet they didn't take the opportunity to use the Blue Mega Battler form, nor did they put Orion in the Quantum Ranger's Battlizer form. I mean yeah, limited by sentai footage and it probably would've been more difficult to remake those costumes by scratch since they were from the Post-Zordon era and were likely sold or disposed of, but considering the weird amount of effort they've put into other scenes, I don't think it would've been impossible for them to pull it off. Then again I guess I shouldn't expect any actual effort for anything to make sense at this point.
Actually Linkara: the fight in the Sentai was with the keys who's powers they had just acquired: Sun Vulcan, Fiveman, Flashman, Changeman and Maskamn which were the last ultimate powers they needed to unlock "THE ULTIMATE TREASURE IN THE UNIVERSE" which turned out to be a giant triforce
And it also grants them 1 wish but the gokaiger rangers wish would've end up making the super sentai saga gone forever so the gang decided not to

Man the fact that he still has to be tweaking the existing videos makes me so sad, even though I've seen everything I want the rest ;-; I guess all of us just gotta keep watching his other stuff while we wait...
I remember being impressed in your overview of RPM, how you reported that the writers/directors of the show had to jump through hurdle after hurdle, minimizing zord footage, capitalizing on settings/filming locations, and basically creating a whole new team of rangers divorced from the sentai, all to create a show that had a completely different story/vibe from the original sentai. In an era of power rangers when the people above were telling them to "just dub the sentai." When I look at this show, I basically see the opposite. they got 10 returning actors from the original shows. They COULD have rewritten the show to work with the actors they got back, i.e. more or less putting in the same effort as RPM: minimizing zord footage that didn't work for the show, re-watching episodes of the shows they're paying tribute to so they can explore the same ethos for the episode, but no. It's like you said, "burn through as much sentai footage/plot as possible," most of which had nothing to do with the returning actors they got, throw in the majority of the returning actors completely haphazardly at the end, and hope to god it works out. Like seriously, how is there no tribute episode with Tommy? A Time Force Episode? or an In Space Episode? You got actors back from some of the highest points in the franchise, and you didn't do jack with any of them!
So as a Sentai fan I love the Japanese version of "Legendary Battle" because it doesn't happen at the end of the series IT HAPPENS AT THE START!! The rangers basically leaving Earth at the end like that was actually the combined might of every sentai blasting the Armada away and then their powers become the Ranger keys because the Sentai lose them. Which makes a lot more sense to me than they just vanish into light...
So here's an idea for fixing Megaforce story.
Let's say the Armada attacks in full force right from the start causing mass destruction and all sorts.
This awakens Gosay and makes him call the rangers to action to fight them off, and of course they hesitate unsure if they can do anything, but Gosay shows them people in danger and while some decide to fight the others run away and hide because they're scared, for a time the ones who chose to stand and fight do well but soon are overwhelemed by sheer numbers, they try to moroph but unless all morphers are unlocked and active they can't.
Seeing the others get beaten up and blown away the ones who ran away and join the fight helping out best they can, then all at once they morph and do better against the armada.
Soon a general type appears doing the big speech of who he is and what the armada will do, they fight and repell him.
The rangers try taking out a few ships but it's no use, there's too many and they don't have the power to combat it and retreat to the command center.
They ask Gosay if there's anything to stop the armada, he tells them of the zords and other powers, but most of the power is sealed and will only unlock when it is needed.
Not being satifised with this answer one of the rangers runs out and trys to be a one man army only to get his ass kicked, seeing them in danger the others rush to his said to help, but of course they're outgunned by the ships blasting them, but they stand their ground and this awakens the zords and at first they fight seperatly doing well and force a retreat for now.
Next time a single monster is sent with the foot soldiers and causes trouble, they fight and beat it, but then he grows big.
They call the zords fight it but the zords aren't effective and they start wrking together with coorginated attacks and it does do damage it's not enough so they get blasted back, they don't give up and become able to combine the zords into one to make the megazord.
They fight and win forcing the bad guys to rethink their plans of attack.
next few episodes have a side plot of working to make a barrier to keep the armada out, and they get it working, but the bad guys can get a hand full of small forces through the shield but it takes a lot of energy to even get that through, and this can be why the armada doesn't attack much.
From here there can be lessions and them earing the powers and meeting roboknight with him being all "I work alone, or I do not work with filthy humans" or other stuff to have him not work with them, maybe have a scene of him hijacking the megazord to use himself or force combine it with his.
And later they become friends.
Season final can be the big bad himself coming in to fight, and Robo knight will sacrifice himself with the megazord to protect everyone,
for Super Megaforce say this a evolution of their powers but save the megazord attack the armada for the last episode and the reason could be the barrier get's broken by the big bad emperror who just slaps it like it was wet paper.
They attack the armada trashing the ships and the such, but the emerror lives so they have to put all their power into the final attack which costs them the super mega power leaving them with just their normal powers but no zords to back them up, then have the other teams show up and help, just fix up some scenes, one being not showing Karone as Astonema since the little kids won't know who she is.
Then the reason for the big glow at the end is a final Power Ranger legendary attack that destorys the last of the army, the glow can be the morphin grid sending them home, all going back to where they originally came from while others get sent back into the city to help.
And that's how it ends with them being worn out from all the fighting, parting aways but remaning friends and power rangers at heart.

Well we could have them in ranger form clearing out any of the armada's frces that attack the city or use their ranger powers to help people in need.
For the most part have the leader of each team or one member of each team appear without their helmet on, or simple keep it and use a stunt double for most.
However as I said I'd make sure that there are no doubles, since Might Morphin, Zeo, Turbo and In Space used mostly the same team through out so those ones make cameo's hard for continuity of all rangers as having some carry on into other seasons does hurt it a bit.

I have a similar idea.
My option was:
Maintain megaforce, nothing changes, except that they lose their powers at the end.
The Armada attacks the planet, and other planets throughout the universe, while the rangers run away.
Do a time skip to sometime in the future (A few days, weeks tops). The Earth has mostly surrender, and have a war council of the villains saying so, except for some resistance reports (And name drop some planets where we know there are rangers/ranger-like heroes, as well as cities we know). Get someone to say that the reports have no evidence, but that the commanders on ground have reported strange powers, but not those of the rangers they have battle.
The Mega Rangers then get the super mega form, but the reason they can't maintain the legendary form is due to the fact that other ranger teams are using the same powers, so the morphing grid can't maintain both sets at the same time.
They are also acting a sort of resistance, but on a grander scale. Make them recieve transmissions saying things like "May the power protect us", or "Reinforcements are coming, just battle it out a bit more", or some shit like that.
Flash forward to the end of the season, and when they call back the Armada, that allows the past ranger teams to liberate their respective planets/areas. Come the final battle, they get rescue by the ranger army, who have come to destroy the biggest threat (At the moment). You can also mention something about the Morphing Grid giving spirit forms to the rangers who are not there/who have multiple powers, or use clones/robots/new recruits (maybe past allies? Bulk and skull might be called upon), and destroy the Armada in a Final Battle, calling up past zords, power ups, etc.
At 32:56 ...Exactly... Saban should have invited the Disney Rangers that are NZ/austrailan actors as guest stars in tribute episodes and get rid of Pre-Zyu Sentai Footage and respect the PR mythology... It would have saved money but...nooooo!!!! Jon Tzachor ignored it declaring non-canon... UGH!!!

IIRC Rick refused since he was in Samurai last season and felt that kids would be confused as to why Deker is in Megaforce (even though his appearance as Cole is different than Deker and could be easily remedied but w.e).
With that said, solid tribute list. Even when Lewis brought up actors who were in Samurai and Megaforce, you had others in mind for the respective tribute.

I think the reason this season did so much damage was because this one was the big one, like never again will PR be dealt a great anniversary sentai that mostly tried to pander to americans with awesome PR fanservice, thats why the franchise has been in damage control ever since, with all the anniversary focus in ninja steel and the legacy stuff in beast morphers, but the damage's been done

The Legendary War took place between Goseiger and Gokaiger, the lights of the Rangers going up into the sky was all the previous teams giving up their powers to stop the invasion. And they did the 5 in the movie because I guess they couldn't fit them into the show.
I dont get why the show ended with the legendary show instead. Did no one watch gokaiger?

To play the Devil's advocate for a second: I interpreted Noah's "Real ones!" as him being in awe that the "Legendary Rangers" are there themselves - that it's not just the Megaforce team transforming into them
Thinking about it: Overdrive and Megaforce both are anniversary seasons (Which apparently PR seems to flub the landing with a lot...) but they both took different approaches to it: Overdrive had higher ups that did care but poor writing ended up with the tent catching fire and things going to hell despite good intentions...while with Megaforce's higher ups didn't care, and just kicked the gasoline but didn't care to light a match and just watched it. I can't tell what would be worse to watch though: A series that clearly did care but crapped the landing, or a series that...didn't. And had mostly just fight scenes.

I don’t remember the exact quote but Johnathon Tzachor, or SOMEONE at Saban (probably Tzachor), is on record for saying that kids don’t care about story and just want to see action or something along those lines. A, kids don’t stay kids forever. They grow up and realize how stupid some of the stuff they watched is (emphasis on SOME). And B, kids aren’t that narrow minded and stupid. They’re learning stuff left and right, granted they’re in a healthy environment. Also, if this is supposed to be an anniversary season, then show some respect to the adult fans grew up with the series! This was a Nickelodeon show by the way. Imagine if we got the guys who wrote Avatar to write this series! Those guys know how to respect both kids and adults!

@@Aibadenshi Now I want to see the Rangers fight a garbage opponent who's got an incredible reputation but his only real power is his ability to convince people how powerful he is and anyone who is foolish enough to challenge him will be destroyed. Basically he's just pure bluster who's bluffed his way into a reputation for being unbeatable, but he's actually so weak the Rangers don't need to morph to beat him up.
Then, since he's a coward he convinces the Rangers to take a dive in exchange for becoming a mole within the villains camp, thus handing the rangers an incredibly one-sided "defeat" and propping up his reputation even more.

This is the biggest problem when you rely so heavily on Sentai footage and/or plot but don't take the time to explain why. Lewis makes a great point questioning where all the other Rangers are during this whole invasion. Within this series' context, there's no reason reason given.
In the source Sentai, Gokaiger, it's explained at the beginning. See, in that series, there were 2 "Legendary Wars". Prior to the start of the series was an initial invasion of Earth from the villains. Somehow, every Super Sentai member was there (I say somehow since more than handful were canonically dead) to fight them off. In the end, they unleashed the full force of their Ranger powers to destroy the bulk of the invading fleet and drive back the remnants. The result was losing the ability to morph, and the powers ended up drifting through space, manifesting eventually into the Ranger Keys. That is why there are no other Ranger teams helping during the invasion.

The "spirits of old ranger" for the legendary "war" would also be a good explanation for Roboinight.
The Legendary Battle, the thing that was getting hyped to be the Finale of the show, and in Gokaiger was an emotional and awesome moment of all the heroes of Earth uniting to save their world with the theme song of Tensou Sentai Goseiger with none of the characters speaking to convey the mood of the battle with all of the Teams uniting their powers to save the world. In Megaforce it's ridiculously short with the Megaforce rangers talking making it lame with no emotional impact or weight. At all. Along with the end was just the current team shooting all of them with the finisher weapon,as if the Megaforce team was the only one that mattered with none of the other teams doing anything important.
So i looked up Goseiger and that show had 3-4 villain factions so the fact they thought it was a good idea to somehow squish all those into 20 episodes is rather insulting. Idk if the villain factions in Goseiger were any better than their Megaforce counter parts, save for Vrak, but it truly is baffling to use Gokaiger for the second season.
So they really couldnt just not do one of the shows? I mean by that its seems impossible to merge 2 clashing themes like that into one serealized season
What will always bother me about this season is that there’s so much footage from Gokaiger that they can use. There’s a completely awesome Megazord battle from the crossover movie that they could use for the final episode.
Not just that but Basco’s actor not only spoke perfect English but was more than happy to fly to New Zealand and shot original footage if they needed to adopt any of his episodes. Yet when given a golden opportunity on a silver platter, the crew denied it

How to fix the Legendary Battle:
Talk about the morphing grid, Morphin' Masters, throwaway lines mainly.
Have the cameos as just that, cameos, the destruction is occurring everywhere, so the previous rangers are there to do what they know best, protect.
When Troy(?) Says to use all the legendary power, the Morphin' Masters appear, and grant them help in the form of the Legendary Rangers throughout time using their spirits (As said in video), which explains the energy dispersion at the end, and why there's duplicate rangers. Remove the need for paying these actors, and gives more money in the budget for better story
