I really like how no one ever points out that a New Zealander trained an American with Japanese ancestry for his whole life and they somehow retained their native accents
You know I can count on one hand how many times a Ranger team’s sensei has been Asian. Namely on my non-existent 6th finger.
If they needed human despair to achieve their goals, they should've just waited till Super Megaforce aired

I like to think of Antonio as the "Ronin Ranger". He's a self-made samurai without a clan that Wandered the Earth; very Ronin qualities from a modern perspective.
That's actually interesting, imma do that
Except Ronin aren't self taught, they're cast out.
Ronin Ranger has a nice ring to it
Not a Ronan technically Jaden if I remember correctly was a Ronan near the end cuz ronan's are basically Samurai who've lost their f****** job
Let's be honest, Antonio is clearly supposed to be a ninja. I haven't watched the sentai, but between the sword, combat style, and the use of smokebombs, it's clear that the intention is supposed to be a reflection of Ninja Storm, where they had 5 ninja rangers and one samurai.
Just... forget how reflective his suit is...
“Spike, did you ever know that you were gonna be my son in early development?”
Really?
That makes a LOT more sense
SAY WHAT NOW!!!????
Spike did I ever tell you about the time me and your dad were going to have our own show?
“Spike did I ever tell you that me and your Dad had to return a car we won on a game show because we were caught cheating”
“Given that your dimension looks like water world on virtual boy I think you need to be more specific”
The best thing I’ve ever heard
"He played Phineas in Mystic Force, Boom in SPD, Flit in Jungle Fury and Norg in Overdrive"
Dude just loves to be the comic relief, I guess?
Mick chanic in ninja steel
Yep
It's a living.
“A new Zord; the swordfish Zord.”
The...Zordfish?
David Spring *insert slow clap here*
Glad to not be the only one
I read that as "The zordfish sword". I'm a little tired today.
David Spring Lo and behold with the Sharkzord/ Shark Sword...
Lol and you good sir have my respect for that one mon ami
"Spike, did I ever tell you about the time when American media wasn't dominated by litigious corporate suits who try to shut everyone else down over copyright disputes?"
"No, dad. And I'm pretty sure a time like that never existed."
Huh?
Also, Bulk is Spike's Uncle.... possibly.
I find it hilarious how these modern PR games we have now refuse to use Jaiden when they throw in the red Samurai Ranger, instead using Lauren.
Says a lot about how unpopular a Ranger Jaiden is.
That and Lauren had a lot more focus in the shattered grid
Which doesn't make sense to me but whatever.
@@keelanbarron928 The real reason is probably because Lauren gets a lot more attention in the comics, thus more popularity, but I like to think it's because Jaiden himself is such a tremendous hunk of wood that they went with the more interesting Shiba.
@@tykamen5588 Yeah that's probably the case XD
@@techguy651 not like it matters because the character of jaden infuriated me so badly that im happy they picked lauren instead.
Actually, funny thing about Origins: When the two episodes aired on TV, they DID have the original version of the intro. But for whatever reason, the Netflix and DVD releases of the season have the later intro.
ANTONIO!!!
Me in 2011 rewatching it on dvd: wow cant wait to see antonio

Good grief.
"Spike, did I ever tell you about Deker's sword Uramasa?"
I honestly realized he never said "spike did I ever told ya me and ya father helped the power rangers with sinizen of earth to beat some robots or aliens or whatever they were" why don't ya tell him bulk???
You mean his wife uramasa?
@@blaze048wanna know something funny, the sword in power rangers was from his wife Daiyu, but in the sentai they’re not married, she’s a yandere who killed or accidentally caused the death of her senpai, whereas decker had nothing to do with any of that at all and was an unrelated dude as a human who also happened to become half nhilock
"Spike did I tell you about the time your dad snuck into Lord Drakken's castle?"
Different Spike
or how we helped defeated an entire army with the zeo rangers in angel's grove
And died in the process
“You what! How come you never tell me about this! Thanks!
In regards to Nick apparently leaving out the first few episodes, they have made a number of questionable choices that hurt their shows. Also, they seem to rig their award show to keep Spongebob on top. When Avatar actually managed to take first place, Nick kept it out of the running entirely the following year.
They might not like it when shows are serialized.
I'm.......Actually wondering now if something like Fairly Oddparents ever won the awards. Or came close.
Supposedly, the reason that Nick (and a lot of other cable networks) don't like serialized shows is that they don't do very well in reruns. They bring in more viewers on new episode premiers, but episodic shows tend to do much better in reruns, and that's where tv networks make most of their money, repeat episodes.
That makes sense as I remember when Avatar’s third season aired they barely aired it except for when new episodes were coming. In fact the writer for the Avatar Episode The Great Divide said the episode was made because Nick wanted more episodic episodes for it. Because the people behind Nick prefer episodic shows because they think people get turned off of Serialized shows or would “confuse the kids”. Which given the fact the first episode of Avatar I saw was the Library episode that got me interested. Although I do recognize that with cable television you could air almost any episodes you want for episodic shows and generally no audiences will be confused but I grew up with cartoons that had seeialized stories.
I also personally believe they had a hand in sabotaging Avatar's Lego sets when it was in competition with Spongebob for a chance to receive a full set line. The Avatar Lego sets were really ugly with barely any effort put into them, the figures not even coming to close to resembling their TV counterparts and based on really generic locations from the series. Meanwhile, Spongebob's sets were instantly recognizable, the figures more accurate and they had more interactive elements to them.
Though another thing to consider is the year after Avatar’s win was 2009. Avatar had its finale in July 2008 and the Kids Choice Awards are typically held in early spring. Would it have made sense to nominate a show that had ended 9 months prior?
The idea of human misery becoming the Sanzu River reminds me of human anger becoming the river of slime in Ghostbusters 2.
Yeah but it IS a holdover from the sentai, in fact almost any plot point not related to Decker and Dayuu being lovers in life is from Shinkenger, including the slightly gay undertones of the relationship between rangers Red and Gold, despite showing ShinkenRed either had a thing for nobody or Yellow lmao but that’s besides the point

JamesTheBrony/JTB Spike, did I ever tell you about the time a guy who became a dinosaur scientist used magical lightning from his eyes to push us into a dumpster?
As someone who can appreciate bad jokes in Power Rangers....I agree that they really need to shut up during a fight
Same. It really takes you out of the fights, especially Legendary Battle. When you're fighting for the survival of the world, i wouldnt think of it as the time to have a dick measuring contest with the enemy or make puns while killing monsters.
Everyone wants to be Spider-Man but not everyone can be Spider-Man...Sometimes not even Spider-Man. Lol
It's fine for characters who enjoy fighting or are supposed to be witty and arrogant, in small doses of course, but stoic or serious characters definetly should not be making jokes while fighting.
Yeah, especially the most overused bad joke in all of power rangers, "have a nice trip, see you next fall." I swear this joke is in every power rangers season
@07Vanity both seasons of beast morphers they battle with no talking
"Spike did I ever tell you about the time I tried to stop a baby carriage going down grass almost running people over and teenagers jumped over old people.
Spike: um... why are people afraid to get ran over?
Bulk:angle grove is full of idiots
Then follow it up with
Spike: Did you ask for a reward?
Bulk: NOPE.
Not to hate on Spike too much, but in my opinion Emily should have been Skull's daughter. It would have given Bulk a reason to be with the rangers and interact with them, maybe even been a counterpart to the kuroko. Would have been better than him just being comedy relief again despite having helped save the world on multiple occasions.
Imagine they just merged Spike with Emily. Have Bulk be unaware of Emily being a Power Ranger for a bit of the first season and just being there for her when she needs someone to talk to and help encourage her while still having a goofy subplot of him trying to train to fight the Nilocks in his own special way, then he ends up finding out later who she is and tries to assist more where he can to help her as she fights as a Ranger for better or worse. It would be an evolution of the character to be more of a caring but still aloof mentor role who helps guide her where he can.
Absolutely. And Ironically, Bulk's actor would become a Yellow Ranger in Hyperforce...
😆👍
That honestly would work then maybe just maybe bulk could've been the brown ranger and even using mentor G's samuraizer
Dekker's obsession with his sword seems really telling in hindsight.
Tbf, the incident involved a broadsword, I think. But probably because of assumption based on his role as Deker, it was mistakenly reported as a katana in some places.
@@pwnorbepwned more like a dick move on whoever reported it as a katana
28:47 it’s a real shame they didn’t just make Deker a possessed Cole in this season cause it could of formed a link between Samurai and Wild Force and why the Red Lion Zord was able to work for both teams powers in Super Megaforce. Something that not even Gokiager explained.
Well if I remember that episode in Gokaiger correctly, the red lion zord kind of tested the gokaiger team and also gained the blessing from the red gaoranger, who was a veterinarian, thus giving the Gokaiger team permission to use their treasure(?) (Can't remember what they used to refer the powers the Gokaiger were allowed to use from the other sentai teams), and the Gaoranger's treasure was summoning the lion zord, but again, they had to prove to the lion zord and the red gaoranger that they were worthy of usimg their power
@@mohammedyousef4005 yeah, most of the Gokaiger plot was searching for the treasures of every Sentai team to gain a powerup that is either used on the rangers themselves or their zord. Except the Caranger one. It's just a car safety add
@@OMartinez91 Greater Power. That’s the term.
I think they wanted to keep the two seasons as not related as humanly possibility.
@@NightridewithNikki It's been standard fare since Lost Galaxy to have each season be standalone much like the sentai barring the occasional team-up with the previous season's team so even if it's the same actor they're playing an entirely different character. It was the same for monster VAs. Robert Axelrod while best known for voicing Lord Zedd also voiced a number of other characters.
Can I just say something about Jayden's character at the start of Origins, it can be said that his personally when he defeats the Moogers and his insistence of not wanting to work with a team is justified. Due to the fact that as you pointed out, Jayden has been doing this for a long time practically on his own, and now he is told he has to work together with four other rangers. His attitude is right, in the fact that up until that point him working alone is pretty much all he knew.
The issue is he continually repeats this arc with no variance or anything added
Also think about how he later says that "Many of these discs have been lost in battle". Linkara snarked at 'how could you lose them', but it's pretty clear how you might lose them: by DYING TO THE NILOCKES. There was a serious untapped potential here of him having seen his father, grandfather, and potentially countless family friends dying in this constant war, and never wanting to put it upon someone else.
@@Zenn_Chan. Samurai and especially Megaforce in a nutshell
@@Zenn_Chan the way the show phrased it sounds like the rangers just....dropped them somewhere
I much prefer Takeru’s opening lines in Shinkenger to Jayden’s. All Takeru does is say “Jii. Too long. I’m going.” WAY more badass.
It honestly dhows a lot of character, takeru slapping ryunosukes hand aside and telling him to protect himself, and that line just told leagues about takeru as a character compared to jaden in samurai.
Same. Takeru was too damn tired of Jii. My boy just wanted to defeat the foot soldiers
I still suspect that Nick hamstrings most of their serious shows on purpose. I know they interfered with Avatar and Korra, the latter more so.
Yeah samurai was definitely handicapped by nick censors seeing as (and this may just be a nitpick) the rangers don't bleed they sparkle, and more accurately the amount of language censoring and how they couldn't tackle more serious topics like how Emily might have been suffering from depression or giving Jayden some daddy issues since it was dumbed down for a younger audience
@@Just_Julia_ No ranger bleed they all spark. No one in power ranger is allowed to say die only destroy. However I agree they don’t do serious topic anymore.
They don't want any show to upstage their golden child SpongeBob
@@blaze048 Seeing as they've not only made that most of the network airing block in years past and made multiple unwanted spinoffs, but banned the only show that ever beat out Spongebob in Nick's own award show was banned from future entrance..... yeah. No question.
@@bthsr7113And yet they banned the episode "Midlife Crustacean" even though Mr Krabs got humiliated when he was caught in the act of stealing his mom's underwear. I can understand temporarily banning the episode about a quarantine during COVID-19. But Mr Krabs (again) got some sort of comeuppance for what he did in the episode. So it doesn't make sense.

Okay. In Mia's scene in the first episodes. Small children running around- and magic arrow flying into child care center.
Weapons in an American child care center. How did that get past the censors?
...holy shit.
That's actually a very good point!
The thing about Mia working at a Child Care Center in Origins, and her attempts to become a good cook in later episodes is due to the fact her Shinkanger counterpart's goal was to become the perfect wife.
It's America
@@doggosho3044 Well Samurai tried to perfectly translate many of Shinkanger's plots, and character personality traits like Mia apparently having the same personality traits as her Shinkanger counterpart aka personality traits that scream I want to be some guy's perfect wife, and to an extent failing.
Knowing what we know now about Ricardo Medina Jr, seeing Deker endlessly talk about his sword makes me feel like that's the sword he used to stab his roommate.

33:15 That’s not quite right.
The whole reason why Lightspeed Rescue put their base underwater was because the sea was the Demons’ weakness
So if the samurai rangers put these base underwater they'll be safe even without the symbol power?
Am I the only one who's upset about how Antonio's Octozord is obviously a squid?
Same with Octoroo. His design is obviously based on a squid.
I don't like how it's his first zord, but he barely uses it with the claw zord and really only used it with the ultrazord, it combined like one time with the samurai megazord.
I just call him "squid who sometimes speaks in rhyme"
Ikr, it would've made a bit more sense if they called it the InkZord, confusing yes but still makes sense since Squids and octopies do spew out ink.
And in reverse, Squidward is actually an octopus
Yeah.
29:09-29:49 Out of all of those actors that have played more than one role in different seasons, it's odd how Linkara never thought about mentioning John Tui (Kruger in SPD, and Daggeron in Mystic Force). He should've been the most noted one in that group.
It's even more baffling when he didn't mention James Gaylyn too, he was in Ninja Storm Dino Thunder RPM and etc. Including Dino Charge.

Seriously funny that Bulk is in this season since Flying Moogers get introduced later on.
Seeing the beginning of the Neo-Saban era again makes me wonder how the Hasbro Era of Power Rangers will be. Since Beast Morphers is based on a popular sentai (At least outside of Japan) and they mention the morphing grid in its description, it's looking good so far.
Dragon Sword so they adapted the sentai with the furries from another world?
I'm actually surprised that Hasbro's adapting Go-Busters instead of Zyuohger, Kyuranger, or Lupinranger Vs Patranger. Or outright rebooted the series with a MMPR remake.
Thomas Meehan There's still two newer seasons they could have done instead of Go-Busters, so the decision is rather confusing.

mickeyd343 UA-cam is easily screwing with the best content creators on their site and they don’t even care.
I find it kind of ironic that darker who is played by Ricardo Medina is obsessed with his sword and Medina is now in jail for murdering his roommate with a sword
4:27 I think I know why they did this since it’s not a uncommon practice for kids action shows to start in the middle of the plot usually because there’s a formulaic structure to it essentially it’s to get kids hooked on the show without them getting bored by starting in the midst of the actions a good example of this being by design is Code Lyoko

While this is the first Power Rangers series to be filmed in HD, Super Sentai has been coming in 16:9 HD since either Dekaranger/SPD or Gekiranger/Jungle Fury...
CORRECTION: Super Sentai began filming in 16:9 starting with Boukenger/Operation Overdrive. For Overdrive, Disney took the 16:9 footage and compressed it to fit 4:3... It especially shows in the mecha footage. For Jungle Fury and RPM, the 16:9 footage was cropped to fit 4:3

It's just the season that got me into Power Rangers and I don't think my childhood wold be the same without it. Although looking back, I think not liking it is totally fair. Honestly I would have loved to see bulk as a ranger it would fee full circle it started with them being bulk and skull as bully’s became good leads the people of the world to save the rangers and him becoming a ranger would be perfect as he would finally stand beside a team of rangers and could even link the samurai rangers to the mighty morphing or space rangers saying somthing like “when I was young I remember the space rangers saving the world along side me” or bulk even informing the samurai rangers about the sogun zords and finding out those zords belonged to Jason’s feathers team
Become rust on his blade....so he dont clean his blade then....
bjam89 yeah. Hope he doesn’t cut himself
Good to know, even 5 years after the fact, that I wasn't the only one _slightly_ bugged by that line. The delivery and overall scene work well enough that it's not a big issue for me but there is something extremely weird about a samurai's mentor seemingly encouraging him to let his blade rust.
...well, metaphorically since the sword's made of magic rather than metal but it does leave the metaphor a bit off.

Brien Miller There is a theory out there, where skull works now as a professional pianist and married Kimberly.
It's a nice theory, but I do agree with Linkara in that it's unlikely since Skull and Kimberly have such massive personality differences, even with Skulls character development and changes. Although I can easily believe that Skull did become a professional pianist because he has awesome piano skills as was demonstrated in Zeo.

Samurai was the first Power Rangers I ever watched. Haven’t rewatched it in years but the samurai remix of “Go Go Power Rangers” has stuck with me, even more so than the Original Mighty Morphin version.
It was either reruns of Mighty Morphin or Dino Thunder, for me. It was so long ago I can't remember which I saw first, honestly.
34:12 Antonio making his own Samurai Morpher is very impressive
18:03 - I still can't get over the fact that, in Shinkenger, they make the zords grow by drawing 大, meaning "big", while in PR they make them grow by drawing 超, meaning "super". And... why? This seems like such an absolutely random thing to change, here. It's not like your target audience is likely to understand either of them.
I loved Samurai as kid but hated Megaforce! But at the same time even when I was little I did used to watch power rangers all the on jetix! So I was familiar with Power Rangers I love jungle fury as a six-year-old! I got the glasses as a birthday present and I thought at that moment my life could not be any better! My life has peak!
Xandred, or Dokoku, was so much more threatening in the Sentai.
They let him drink alcohol
I'll give em this, Jayden can fight really well. Granted that's mainly the Sentai footage of Takeru being a badass. But even out of suit Jayden can fight close to Takerus level
Not only do Bulk & Spike almost never interact with the Rangers, but Bulk's fixation on samurais comes out of nowhere. I mean, at this point, the Rangers aren't public figures. Is it supposed to be like when he and Spike became obsessed with astrology and aliens during IN SPACE?
I think you confused Spike with Skull.

Three thing I love about Samurai was the yellow ranger being a faithful adaption from shinkenger, both being a younger incidental ranger as the older sister became sick, which is a concept I adore. And two, Megamode, though I don’t like the cockpit, preferring the Shinkenger one, the samurai mega mode is incredible and looks badass and is a secret little thing I like about Samurai, Dino Charge and Ninja Steel. I also like the comedy relief, much better than Genta in Shinkenger
As a kid I watched Samurai after the Mighty Morpin' reruns and tbh it did its job. Ofc looking back on it with a more critical eye really does show to me that it was not very good. It still holds a place as my first full power rangers series.
I think we all have that kind of PR show that we look back on and say "It may not seem perfect now but it still holds a place in my heart for introducing me to the series."
RainbowRanger I respect you and May the power protect you.

Mauro Richard Kousek - Ask Lost Pause.
The trouble with Jayden’s nonexistent father issues begins and ends with the fact that in the Sentai, that is not his father. Jayden’s counterpart is not part of the royal bloodline at all; he’s just a kid who happened to have fire magic who got recruited to play body double for the real heir, the equivalent of Lauren. There’s no “daddy issues” for them to translate into English for the actor to clumsily try to say. This show is almost a note-for-note reenactment of the Sentai, but it makes these weird changes that scramble up the show’s emotional core. Dayu also suffers from this - they change her personality and backstory from the Sentai, but still give her the same ending. It doesn’t feel like a compelling tragedy; it just feels odd and out of line with the character’s trajectory.
Given the actor's later actions, Dekker constantly talking about his sword is... disturbing.
Mentor Gi’s actor played Emperor Grumm in SPD, I like Grumm better.
I feel like maybe there was a Kevin and Mia relationship they wanted to do but it’s never even acknowledged like Mike and Emily so it’s about as concrete as Linkara’s Aisha x Tanya theory sadly.
I mean they do set it up in an episode where a monster screws with a kid, telling him to give up his baseball hobby and in return the monster will help him see his father again, who's in the army. But it goes nowhere after that episode.
My head canon is that Cole has amnesia and becomes Deker. Like a full circle from Cole freeing Zen-aku and Merrick from a curse. Also for some reason I really love Barracuda Blade.
I mean, if you think about it, 18 generations, and we aren't given any evidence that it isn't generational, isn't that long/old relatively speaking.
after 3 months i'm back watching this again and echo linkaras love of shout factory. between their power rangers and super sentai releases they do amazing work.
If they wanted human misery they should have just aired the final season of Game of Thrones on loop on every screen.
Welp, after watching Shinkenger, this show really is basically the "white rice" of adaptations
I'd love it if they adapted the Kamen Rider Decide crossover. I know, it wouldn't be possible but, I'd love to see it.
Omg the Yugioh Sound Track and the Pokemon song holy crap so much geek and nerdy and 90s and early 2000s my mind explodes. Thanks so much for this
As someone who saw random episodes of older Power Rangers seasons as a kid when Jetix was a thing. I remember not watching much of Super Samurai after the entirety of Samurai. And skipping both Megaforce & Super Megaforce (Dodged a bullet there). Now after watching this review. I think it was because Samurai left me burnt (Update. Seriously think a better insult towards Kevin would be calling him stubborn)
0:03 I used to think he said I want to fight you
Mia practicing on her flute at 12:30... nostalgia
Emily not Mia
I actually liked Samurai. And as for MegaForce well I have my own thoughts on that season.
Why the reupload? Did I miss something?
The Samurai review keeps getting blocked in about 17 countries, then later it will sometimes be blocked altogether in ALL countries, thus reuploads are necessary.
I see I see. By the way brother, big fan of your History of Power Rangers series, been watching them for years now. I'm not a comics guy but I always check in now and then with you and I'm glad you're finding some success on UA-cam. It's a shame Patreon doesn't have its own video platform so you could upload this on there or something, hopefully in the future though. Keep up the good work!
Good news it isn’t blocked
Plagued by plot holes, plenty of awkward moments (thanks to this being a translation of Shinkenger), and cringey acting and dialogue. But kinda forgivable because of Saban needing to rush this one by February 2011 when he back the franchise back from Disney in May 2010. But this series definitely did not deserve justice to the first female red ranger.
Well I grew up watching Dino thunder spd and wild force through reruns but in my teenage years I watched samurai and megaforce before school and I remember really liking both of them
Jayden: I can't believe you're back.
Antonio: Oh yeah, baby, I'm back! And I'm ready for some action.
Archer: Hey! Phrasing!
I love your drive to see this series stay on this gods forsaken site
So I have a theory about why the sixth Rangers tend to be stronger in their introduction than after they join the team: With a Ranger team(of say five), the power is divided five ways. But a solo sixth doesn't have the power be divided. But upon joining the team, their power gets divided amongst the team making them as a whole, but as an individual they get weaker.
Smaller ranger teams(three people) have the power go through less division.
Honestly the fight between jayden and Kevin is dollar store revenge of the sith just imagine dual of the fates
The song that played during the last two lightsaber duels of Revenge of The Sith was Battle of The Heroes not Duel of The Fates
It honestly kind of kinda hurts when I hear people talk shit about Power Rangers: Samurai. Especially because I know they’re right. Samurai was a HUGE part of my childhood. Hell, it was one of the things that introduced me to Power Rangers as a whole. The other one was the Turbo movie. That’s right, the Turbo movie. It’s always the flops that make up your childhood. Isn’t that weird? Anyway, as imperfect as Samurai was, it holds a very important place in my heart. In conclusion, I will always love this show.
That's totally cool if it was, but you need to get over yourself ,certain things you thought were good back then mostly sucked, its fine to latch on them, but pretending that they didn't suck isn't going to stop anyone from critiquing its shortcomings.
@@marshallw1902 Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
I think a female red ranger would be interesting for us life long fans who’ve been around since mighty morphin era. But then again the producers market to little boys. And little boys aren’t as mature and progressive as we like to believe. I think it’d still work if the show was well written but if it ain’t broke why fix it?
Xandred: hey goth!! Go get me more, uh... medicine. Yeah, medicine.
Daiyu: shall I get you more “health magazines” as well?
Xandred: uh, no... can get those on my computer.
