Thanks TTV! 😃 I’m really glad you do. It’s often not as easy as turn up and go. This video for example is at the end of a long day in which I filmed at FOUR stations!
@@StarlifeStudios oh damn, I usually go 1 Station in a day I either stay there for at least an hour or 5 hours depending on how large the station is or the variety you get
Great video. I used to live in SWT - SWR territory. I remember the days of the prototype PEP units and the introduction of the 508s. Used to spend my youth at Surbiton station watching the trains belt through, 33s, 73s, 74s plus the various EMU classes, HAPs, SAPs, EPBs, SUBs, VEPs etc. The Guildford via Cobham's were good, you'd sometimes get a VEP+EPB formation. I do love the old Southern architecture to, station like Woking, Surbiton, and the unique stations on the Chessington branch. I still think it's a shame Stagecoach lost out to First. It certainly hasn't improved under SWR, I think they got a shock when they got their feet under the desk. Running Waterloo is miles away from running Paddington, especially as many departures weren't GWR but Heathrow Express or Connect, and now TfL. Weymouth is only hourly now, the Salisbury-Waterloo now terminate at Basingstoke with just the hourly Waterloo to Exeter serving London. Even the locals like Waterloo to Guildford via Epsom and Waterloo to Dorking are just hourly. Also the millions they wasted on the 442 project.
What an epic master piece of a video and trainspotting from Woking. With only the one train operator but its epic on how South Western Railway keeps the services very frequent running to and from London Waterloo :-)
I must admit, it’s not the greatest station ever for slightlines (there are far better ones on the SWML) but I’m glad I got this one ticked off my list of locations for a visit. Where did you end up going David? 😃
@@TEBEnthusiast I feel exactly the same. Even in the days of the HSTs I preferred SWTs 159s. Also some SWT first advanced tickets could be had for less than the GWR standard fare.
Nice video when the 159s bypassed I was surprised but then I remembered when I last asked what times to stop meant and then I read that it was 21 minutes late
It’s rare that 159s don’t stop here, it’s almost always their first stop outside of London. Clearly SWR wanted that service to make up time by missing stations! Thanks N1TH 😉
I always travel to devon with SWR,since i have a SWR pass that allows me in first class during off peak times and it did not stop at Woking in either direction.
@@StarlifeStudios I'm aware, I was talking about that time when a thameslink train was times to stop and I asked you about it, Also it's about 50/50 The exeter trains stop in Clapham Junction and the Salosbury go straight to Woking but I think there are a couple peak time exceptions
Great video mate!! Nice SWML action!! Beautiful lighting going on there!! Camera quality is amazing!! as with many SWML station is has a beautiful extremely long straight!!
Thank you Jacob! 😃 I was a little torn on the lighting, the shot with the two 450s was so good for the thumbnail but it was too dark to use. This wasn’t the only station on the SWML I visited that day 😉
Thanks TransPennine Train Spotter, I'm really glad that you think so! I'm extremely grateful for your kind words, you're awesome ⭐ I have some TransPennine content in the pipeline for you as well! 😃
Awesome one, the 455s and 456s are on thier last stand with SWR. 8 of the 30 707s are with SE now, with services starting this autumn. But then the 455s and 456s will go and likely be scrapped. The last 442s were scrapped, only one carriage of one train has been saved, and 458 conversion back into 4 car 100mph units for the Portsmouth direct line is looming. Southern will probably follow SWR ad replace thier 455s with new trains as well, and the rest of the PEPs will go soon. All 314s are gone, nothing being preserved and the other peps are going son too.
@@bowlerstuff9589 Southern didn't retraction theirs like SWT prior to SWR. The SWR units have AC equipment (one of which exploded spectacularly at Guildford station due to a capacitor fault, debris was found in the car park) while the Southern retain the EE506 DC traction motors that were used back in the days of 4-SUBs and 4-EPBs. Basically they're almost bullet proof.
450s are 4-car units and do run as 12-car formations, just like the old days of the 4-VEPs, CIGs, REP&TC days. 444s, 458s and 707s are 5-cars. As you say, wouldn't get that up North, lucky to get 6 on a TPE service, or 2x331s on the Blackpool North services. Nothing like the Exeter trains on SWR were 9-car 3x159s or 10-car 158+158+159+159 aren't unusual. Love to see a 6-car 158 on the Settle line or running through Hebden Bridge to Leeds. At least the 769s on the Southport's are 4-car units now, better than a single 150.
I’m going Bournemouth on the 2nd of September from Ashford (Surrey) and there’s only a 16 minute change at Waterloo should I be worried I will miss my train if late?
Will you be filming the Class 701 Arterios once they are in service and to be operated on the Windsor & Eton Riverside, Reading, Woking, Guildford and Weybridge routes and suburban services including Hampton Court, Twickenham, Shepperton and Chessington South. I think I have been to Woking once.
Absolutely! I am keeping my South Western content on the low at the moment so that I can capture A LOT more when the stock transition is occurring. Many of the lines and stations you mentioned on this route will gain some variety as a result of the rolling stock change so I am hoping to capitalise on this and make some entertaining videos 😃
I'm surprised (and happy) that so many trains are still in SWT livery, SWRs franchise is set to terminate in 2023 and if they haven't reliveried this many trains I assume they won't reliver much more
