I think the 158/159s make this one of the best routes in the country. This maybe the last video I do of this route before most of the local trains turn to 701s 😞
Those nine coach London Waterloo to Salisbury divide at Salisbury and go on to Exeter St Davids which is my route. However, in December First Group gave up this franchise as they have been loosing millions and this was not due to the pandemic. They also gave up Alanti West coast due to the pandemic. They are in talks with the government to run both routes as management only.
Hello East Mids, I haven’t had a chance to get down south to Southampton but I hope to soon. I like the South West, but I’d like it more if the 442s were running!
@@StarlifeStudios only once for me between Southampton and Bournemouth on the 444..compared to most modern trains, the comfort and the ambience is very good indeed..I was impressed 😎👍🏽🎉
How come there are no trains to/from Weymouth or Exeter? Were they suspended during the lockdown? And it's "Guildford via Cobham", not "via Claygate", although it goes through both ;)
Hi Nathan, Wimbledon is a tough one because there are gates on the fast platforms which make filming difficult. I’ll investigate this and see what I can do. Thank you 😃
Awesome video mate (im LunaticFJ) i took your advice on getting an actual camera. I got a Somy Handycam cx240e. Its an old 2014 camera that i used to have and forgot all about it. Is that a good camera?
Hello Lunatic/Stryder, great to hear that you took my advice. I’ve heard good things about the cx240e. I recommend getting some extra batteries for it to avoid you running out of juice when your out 😃 Don’t worry too much about the video quality just try and focus on keeping it nice and smooth and perfecting your camcorder style, once your established you can then upgrade. Good luck 🤞🏻
@@StarlifeStudios Thank You StarLife, i did use it yesterday and everytime i zoomed in. the camera went blurry. Should i zoom in slowly or adjust the settings?
@@FJx36 No problem. The focus point is something that I set as automatic although I know some people that manually adjust it. I would recommend going to station and just playing with the settings until your comfortable. Also note that it’s easier at stations where every train stops as opposed to where everything is fast. Everyone is a little timid when trying to use a new camera. My first 4K video (cheddington) is terrible because I couldn’t get the zoom right but I mastered it over time 😃
Thanks Daniel! I'm glad your still around on UA-cam 😃 I haven't really read much about them but its disappointing to see that the entire Metro fleet will become just one type. Personally, I thought Stagecoach's 455/456 refurbishment made them more than capable to continue for at least another 10 years.
Things are changing on South Western Railway as they are replacing the Class 455, Class 456, Class 458 and Class 707 with the Class 701 “Arterio” that is due to come into service. Either late this year or in the beginning of next year. As the Class 707 are to be cascade to Southeastern. And the Class 458 could go to Southern to replace the Class 313 used on the East Coastway Line and West Coastway Line and Class 455 used on the South London suburban lines. Including Caterham, Tattenham Corner, Epsom Downs and Sutton services. And Southern could also inherit the Class 376 from Southeastern to be used on the suburban services or the Coastway services. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_455 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_456 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_458 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_701 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_707
Also have you been on the Class 442 as they are operating on London Waterloo-Portsmouth Harbour and Portsmouth & Southsea. Or are they not in service just yet. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_442
Hi EssexLad, this will probably be the last video I make without the 701s at least partly in traffic. The 442s are currently surplus to timetable requirements at the moment and, as you said, are all out of service until at least next year.
3:37 three 158s and a lonely 159 to Salisbury. That's a combo Sprinters 👌👌👌👏👏

Great vid!
I went to Winchester for 2 nights recently and I went trainspotting there and at Southampton

A very great video from you! 😃
Thanks Robert, I really enjoyed filming this one. Warm Summers Day + Trains = Awesome 👍🏻
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed this :)
I love seeing trains
Trainspotter11 and Martin, I’m glad you both enjoyed it. I really enjoyed filming this, it’s almost non-stop action here!
when I was going Bournemouth i watched your channel :]
Thanks FLX, I hope you enjoy it 😃
Excellent 😎👍🏽 the 444 is a nice unit to ride in, comfortable 😊👍🏽

Great video as always mate.
Thanks Imperialist! 😃
@@StarlifeStudios No worries mate.
How many trains actually stop here
One of the stations i have changed at before and hated because i missed the train by 6 seconds and ended up waiting an hour
Can you go Slough as a suggestion
I need to go back to the west at some point Joshua so maybe Slough and Reading is a good place to start.. Thanks for the suggestion! 😄
Brilliant video
Thank you Jeff :)

why are all the trains leaving platform 1 just ignoring the 30 mph limit
Which trains serve platform 4? i cant remember
Hi Emily, Platform 4 is served by SWR Metro trains from Guildford (via Epsom), Chessington South and Dorking. Hope this helps 😃
Could you do Wimbledon since it's the station before Raynes Park?

Ah yes SWR
2:07 sounds like a DC powered Class 319.
Yep! The 456s are the only SWT units which still retain DC traction motors. The 455s are AC and have more of a whine to them.
