I'm lucky, living in south Texas. No bears. I carry a G19 every day on the ranch. (Big time illegal alien threat with narco coyotes accompanying, 24/7). I keep an AR in the truck in a scabbard on the passeger seat, aid bag, and other essential kit in the truck. Yes, I concur on the handgun battery. My 22LR is a Ruger Mk IV. Super accurate. Yes to the 357, S&W model 19, versitile. In my younger life when I hunter up north, I carried a Ruger Redhawk 44mag. It is useful, and has taken a lot of wild hogs on the ranch. We eat a LOT of hog meat! One last item you might want to cover. If I have pants on, I have a fixed blade knife I can fight with. Mine was made by a friend. 5" blade, heavy back point, drop point, worn in a horizontal sheith on the belt. Doubles as a work knife. Why? Muphy's law. You NEVER know, stuff can go from normal to weird in no time. It is the last line of defense, especially in the dark. As a young staff sergeant, I used to instruct knife fighting. The easy quick flip folders, assisted can work, but 5" gets to the vitals. Shorter, not so much.
At nearly 80, I have gotten rid of my two 44's and should probably sell the 45, as my arthritic hands and shoulders dictate. I have several 22's, both semis and DA revolvers. I'll never get rid of my 6" S&W 686. Consider a 5.7 x 28. Little to no recoil, but it packs a real wallop, and with 20 in a mag, plus a spare.....
I like the choices you discussed. With most semi auto I choose to carry for EDC, a snubbie rests in a pocket holster. I like 357 mag too, but keep 38+Ps if an inside defense gun. Magnums have help me as a LEO, but still want to have hearing abolities indoor. Im going on 70, and do have some loss already requiring devices. Protect your hearing! Good job!
Single stack, revolver, double stack, it is likely no matter which handgun, you will need a reload. Grabbing that second mag and getting in the well requires practice to be effective. Train, and train some more. Get that muscle memory engrained in your head. It will save your life and possibly others as well. Also train in bringing a backup into use, because of malfunction or you suddenly become one-handed through wounding and can’t reload. Training and practice will pay big dividends, when the crunch happens.
For sheer ability to handle lots of the most common rounds out there it's going to be hard to beat a Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm convertible. Granted that it's only a single action, but you ought to be able to find ammo it can use darn near anywhere. However, my personal "if you can have only one gun" weapon is a double action revolver in .454 Casull with a 5 inch barrel. Note that this potentially gives you three different power levels of ammunition that you can use. Obviously there's the full power .454 Casull ammo for dealing with critters that want to play king of the food chain. You can also shoot .45 Colt (aka .45 Long Colt) the same way a .44 Magnum can shoot .44 Special. Finally there are .45 Colt+P loads that border on .44 Magnum pressures and performance. Thus if you're in a built up area you can use .45 Colt and not have to worry about ridiculous amounts of overpenetration. And then you can switch to the more powerful loads when you're out in the boonies.
wow took me by surprise , and I agree 357 mag (and if only one still same) . I coupled mine with a 357 mag Henry big boy good for all out too 1 hundred
@locacarnivore900 I dont know anything, Mark Donahue, but if you get into a social situation and you can't hit your target, the only horse power that counts will be how fast you can run, if youre lucky.
Not all Semiauto .22 pistols are less "pichy" with ammo. One particular Beretta 20S has been regularly fired for almost 40 years wih NO failures of any kind. However, it gets loaded only with CCI, top level Federal, Elely or Wolf ammo - it has never fired bulk pack species.
you need a 16 oz, 6" long 9mm in a front pants pocket on the farm, same as anywhere else. However, for fun or varmint control,, you might also need an accurate, lw, compact .22lr pistol preferably with a silencer so it doesn't upset your dog or your livestock. The out of production S&W model 2214 was the best at this. 6.5" long, 18 ozs, nice sights and trigger pull, groups 2" or better at 25m. 34 ozs, maybe 38 with a silencer. LOTS more capability than any one pistol; can ever offer.
…oh, just because, like the boy scout i was, be prepared, i also keep earplugs in my breast pocket and put them in when i go to town. Two reasons: i am not used to all that noise being around folks. Also can’t afford that 15% hearing loss from a pistol report.
In a self defense situation I disagree, suppressive fire is not always good espc for civis. Papaw "if you can't get it done in 4...RUN! Your just gonna make a mess." Now .357 or 44 mag with 44spc for defense and farm 👌. To each his own tho!!
Good to see Harris has got her home security sorted with a reliable handgun ,biden prefers a pump action shotgun for me I would have both especially after trump released obamas home address and they were visited shortly after by an armed idiot with 600 rounds and a machete ,thanks donny you maniac

Outstanding video! The information is extremely useful and needed. We appreciate your knowledge and advice!
Thank you.
Pump shotgun, most versatile all around firearm
Colt Trooper Mark III, 8 3/8” barrel or 6” barrel-the common man’s Python.

Hearing abilities- correct.
YupI agree with the 357/38 revolver. A plethora of ammo and easy to reload. Can’t go wrong with the Ruger SP101. 3in barrel.

Have a 357 revolver and a 357 rifle .. hunt with both .. and they make a great defensive pair
Three hand guns,A 22 ,a defense gun in a cal that you can shoot fast and accurately , a big bore .
A Taurus g3 , Mossberg 500 and a AR .
And a 22lr revolver as in a Single six .
Simple and they work .
Are there more fancy out there yes
wow took me by surprise , and I agree 357 mag (and if only one still same) . I coupled mine with a 357 mag Henry big boy good for all out too 1 hundred
He might also consider the calvary for the 44 of black powder pistols and rifles they can also be good for survival
I have two 9mm, one shotgun, one AR15, and a 1911 45ACP.
Always remember: Accuracy beats horse power.
True. However, Mark Donahue once said once said any handling deficiency can be overcome with more horsepower. Cheers.

load the pocket 9mm with Liberty Arms solid copper hollowpoint, 50 grs at 2000 fps. Same 450 ft lbs as a 357, but no more recoil than a hot 380 load.

Good subject
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

I surprised myself, I went 4 for 4 and own examples of each.
Great selection
Thank you.
Is a 10 mm louder than a 357 magnum?

handguns???
Model 29 44mag
Glock 20 10mm
then skip to real firepower
AR-10
M1 Carbine or AR in 300 blackout for light weight
I surprised myself, I went 4 for 4 and own examples of each.
:)
