I didn't know the 3 minute, 2 minute, 1 minute squat workout is a mike jenkins thing. I did it last year the first time I visited your gym for a class and nic was in charge for the night. It was definitely rough but definitely was rewarding. Now I will make sure to do that every Thanksgiving in honor of mike, thanks for the awesome video Brian!
You train a different way than I and with slightly different goals, but this channel has rapidly become on of my favourites. You do amazing work and with extreme enthusiasm.
Brian, I don't even have a aux cord attachment. I'm driving an old 2000 Pontiac sunfire. All I have is a CD player or a FM radio transmitter attachment. Definitely look into a soda can shaped audio speaker
Absolutely loving good mornings. They are strengthening my back so much that I can squat weights I've never touched, pain free. Breathing and bracing might be helping a little too. Thanks for the assistance video and really hope you do a q and a for this one, the last one was awesome.
I still drive old-school, and I need the aux cord stuff too! As for the squat stuff, these are great tips. Good mornings are not evil for sure. I've brought them back into my workout and gotten the form down and they've been a big help to me.
I’m totally down for the Mike Jenkins squat challenge! Squat day will fall on Black Friday for me so it’ll be perfect. I was getting my pic line put in to treat Burkitts Lymphoma just before you had yours taken out. I had 5 months off from lifting while my body had chemo to deal with. Simply doing the dishes had me feeling like I just did a heavy set of deadlifts. Now I’m back at the weights, building back up to where I was. Come Thanksgiving I’ll be nearly 3 months in remission. What better reason to take on the Mike Jenkins challenge than simply because I CAN!
Small world. I had Burkitts back in 2011. The chemo routine I was on was called R-CODOX-M. Kicked the hell out of my gains but I did bounce back very well through 2012 and 2013. I can't complain. Just coming back from a shoulder injury now. Hoping 2019 is a good year.
Enjoy your videos, first time I’ve seen this finisher one. I usually don’t write comments but after I watched this I had to write one. After hearing about the work you do for Mike on thanksgiving. My mother passed away 14 years ago on thanksgiving day literally dropped out of no where in my drive way. Every since I go to the gym the morning of thanksgiving and hit squats, and I finish with what I called Patti (moms name) I do 225 for 20 reps, then 135 for 20 then the bar for 20. This year I will try your finisher for Mike. Thank you for all the great content you provide to the lifting world.
Brian. Thanks again for the 12 week personalized program brother. Week three, progressing well, strength up with every lift. These workouts are exhaustive. For that reason, I do a two on, one off with my days. My muscles for the day are absolutely smoked for two days after. Thanks again!! Gains at 54!
Definitely going to participate in the 3...2...1 challenge for Mike Jenkins. The way he inspires you sounds very similar to the way you inspire me, not just in lifting, but in changing my outlook in life: being thankful for the chance to experience pain, to embrace the suck, to die empty. Just hope you know the work you do means a lot to a lot of people. Keep it up brother.
Those speakers look like a good Christmas gift thanks. We can always count on you to have some brutal mind testing finishers. Man my legs are going to be sore from those lunges soon
Another great video Brian! Thank you for the content, it really does help. Is there any way you can do a similar video for the OHP? That, personally is my biggest weakness, and I could use all of the help I can get. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
The push-up challenge is done the same as the squat - holding in the down position. The pull up challenge is done holding in the hang position unless you are a superstud and can hold in the up position. The overhead press is done holding in the lockout position. It would be cool to see your crew or one of your classes trying one of the challenges in a video!
Here in germany we don´t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I checked and it is on november the 22nd this year. Right on my squat day, so no excuse to not do the finisher right? And also, will you make a q and a video for squats too? If yes, my question is: What do you do for rehab, if your lower back feels a little funny after a heavy squat day? Is it okay if you back gets a little beat up after squats (I´m doing high bar)?
For anyone who plans on doing the tabata. Search tabata songs on Spotify or whatever streaming you use. Cool songs too - I work out in a commercial gym alone with my wireless buds on so there a lifesaver and keep me accountable. These are cool ideas I was doing tabatas for dynamic effort work
Hey Brian, you have a strong core and made videos on challenging core work. Some of it is a bit dauting though, as in, can't even clear the first rep without feeling like the discs are moving (*shudders*). So here's a video idea, can you make a "core progression" video, where you show core exercises from easier to harder and how to build up to those, where the sticking points are etc?
.Thanks for all your vids! Side note -- I've had big , high energy dogs...and even dogs can benefit from wt'd vets! There are dog back packs that you can put soup cans in to weight it down a bit. Long story short, you can do reverse lunges or split squats even for one rep maxes and your knees will feel just fine
Hey brain, I'm currently on doctors orders to not lift weights because of a wrist injury (or even just body weight stuff like push ups and pull ups). I know one of your pieces of advice is to do pull ups and weighted pull ups in place of curls. I've never really like curls so once I'm cleared to return I'll definitely give it a try. Only downside is, before I injured my wrist I was unable to do a pull up and I'm doubting my ability to do one when I get back, so how can you work your way up to doing a pull up and eventually weighted pull ups?

You may have said it in the video but it is also used for pushups and I do it with overhead press only I reverse the order so that you have to hold in lockout position. I have yet to complete it with just an empty bar!
The push up challenge is done the same as the squat. You stay in the down position of the push-up until it says up. You may also want to try it with pull ups where you hang in the down position. I do it with overhead press by just reversing the order. When it says up you bring the bar down. When it says down you push the bar up and hold it in the lockout position until it says up again. I have tendonitis in my right knee which bothers me alot while squatting. Are there any exercises that can help? I know my legs are uneven strength wise, so maybe this is playing a big part?
Note: I am not a doctor. I also have knee problems (possibly tendonitis, possibly i tore something; never went to a doctor) and squats bothered me for a long time. I started with leg extensions. Literally the lightest weight on the machine hurt at first. I did 4 sets of 25 at the end of every workout. Once that felt all right, i went to the second weight in the stack. It was a slow build up but eventually that strengthened my leg to the point i could start squatting again. I also did a lot of leg press and lunges during that time. If you don't know how to low bar squat I would look into it as well. That did wonders for relieving the stress on my knees. Also, standing hip extensions with a band seemed to help build some much needed knee stability. Good luck mate.
