I had some free time to experiment with training so I squatted every day for about 2-3 weeks, the results were really just achy joints and lowering my overall ceiling to around 85% for a single. Currently running a cycle that's 3 times a week and I'm easily hitting doubles at 90%
Can we get a video on your current split? You said you’re currently doing sprints and jumps and longform cardio as well as still lifting heavy to some degree. I’m very interested in that and would love to follow or implement something like that.
Twice a week here, one front, one back. I turn 35 next month. 210kg frontie, 255kg backsquat - lifetime natural. Squatting everyday seems absolutely stupid.
So how does this work with weightlifting programs? I train 5x week and there is always some variation of squat programmed or at the very least you are always using those muscles. Would you eliminate the dedicated squat sessions during some of these sessions?
I would argue otherwise, but it probably depends from perspn to person. I was following this principle - since I did a lot of volume on snatch and cleann and jerks, I focused on higher intensity with less of a volume. Something that would stimulate my CNS adaptations but wouldn't compromise muscle ability to recover. So generally I would have 3x3 @ 90% 1RM in back squat or 1-2 reps of front squats up to 1RM and then 2 heavy sets of back squats with that same weight. But everyone is different i suppose so I wouldn't reccomend anything to anyone. @@ramonkroes325
Strongest I have been was during college football. I hit 200kg for an easy set of 8 before the coaches stopped me. We swatted 2x week and maybe 3x for short periods. Twice is nice
No choke . I stoped all barbell squating for half a year. Did others stuff instead and tried to focus always on qualityand especially intent. Hit a PR with the first and only bb squat session.. I gained only 1-2%bw. No peds. No newbgains.
You can squat once a week and train the muscles with different exercises on another day also. Thats what i do. I work a physical job and long hours, while i can squat twice a week physically, it very quickly results in severe psychological symptoms of over working/over training. I hit all of my muscles twice a week but only with squat/bench/deadlift/ohp once
Thoughts on people doing high rep bodyweight squats everyday? Personally my body finds even bodyweight quite fatiguing and I've never understood how people can recover properly
I love how a lot of these squat every day bozos will frequently take these token days just to say they squatted, where they do like a single set with one plate, which is effectively just a rest day. These people care way more about keeping the streak and telling everyone that they squat every day, rather than actually trying to get stronger.
Recently i started squatting everyday, after 1/2 weeks i got piriformis inflamation, and upper back was always sore from high bar squatting, then i switched to 5 squats per week having the weekend off, 3 back squat and 2 front squat (as some kind of Absolute weight deload) and i got pretty huge progress, i went from 155 to 185 in less than 2 months, my all time pb was 172.5 but when i started i was de trained and i could only do 155 kg
I do notice for myself that I can front squat more frequently without it interfering with the rest of my training, than with back squats. Absolute loads are ofc bigger with the latter, so that’s probably why. But as someone not built for the sport, I love me some frontal loading frequency.
It's completely the opposite for me. I feel like front squats at a comparable percentage fatigue me more than back squats because the loading on the core and upper back (even the shoulders somewhat) is greater. It's probably psychological as well, I find doing sets of front squats much more draining.
2-3 days off between squats = squat 2x/week There're also single-leg lifts eg. lunges, split squat, step-ups that can be thrown in as 3rd semi squat day every week so not to take 3 days off without squatting
can confirm for my needs, after years of experimenting, squatting 2x per week is the best balanced approach. Sometimes another leg day mixed in if the demon in my head tells me i'm too weak.
I think the general agreement is deadlift once per week. Bench 2-3 times per week. Also, deadlift once per week, but u can have an additional session with a deadlift variation, using less load
I think it was the 1990s, but it seemed that most powerlifters had one squat days, one bench and one deadlift day. I recall a few guys that only did the competition lifts with no accessory work. Recent times it seems to have swung the other way with frequency. Both era's produced strong powerlifters. Do what you enjoy and or select what works for you I guess??
@ I was just wondering because I’ve dropped deadlift to 1 time a week and I feel much better. I’m currently benching twice a week but having shoulder problems.
@@valkarcy Well, I'm on the other side of that experience spectrum, with over 30 years of lifting. Trying to listen to your body keeps you in the gym, I just need to pay attention to whether my muscles or my joints are getting sore!
I usually do my heavy oly lifts + back squats + bulg squats on tuesday and then on fridays I do technique based oly lifts and heavy front squats and snatch or clean deadlifts/pull and believe it or not I feel good every week.
I did ph3 for my first program which had 2 squat dayd. Got up to 400. Then did bullmastif which had only 1 main squat day with a box squat on overhead press day. Hit pr of 475 .. so yea squat everyday is BS
That's amazing as you would think the squat frequency would negatively affect his deadlift due to the overlap of muscles used and systemic fatigue. I think he must be a dam heavy sleeper??
It's not that incredible. The guy has an insanely strong back by nature, and is built to deadlift. If he actually trained properly he would've hit it loooooooooong ago.
Squatting once or twice a week seems to be optimal for most people, with once a week better for older lifters or for those with less recovery and/or weaker tendons.
@@valkarcy If you take into account risk of injury, overtraining, and dropping out, I'm willing to bet that over a long enough period squatting once a week may even be better. Especially if you also do some easy quad/hamstring/glute/adductor work on another day.
Clarifying question: so after RTA you should front squat once a week and back squat once a week? What attracts people to this IMO is the simplicity. You don’t have to worry about periodization or complexity. You come in and do the thing. I think this is an awful way to train but 🤷🏾
You’re not Clarence. He’s also acknowledged his way of training in the past with freakish volume to go along with the frequency and intensity has harmed him more than necessary. You don’t need to follow those footsteps, just follow a weekly split you can do consistently for months on end, and find a consistent degree of load progression you can rinse and repeat.

Ivan is 👌👌💪💪💪
😂😂 he’s probably too chill to care.
Ivan would agree with this guy. He doesn’t squat everyday because it’s “optimal”. He squats everyday cause he wants to
Ivan is a perfect example of it tbh

Is the argument correct that (squat) exercise frequency is somewhat inversely correlated to strength so that frequency declines with getting stronger?
No choke . I stoped all barbell squating for half a year. Did others stuff instead and tried to focus always on qualityand especially intent. Hit a PR with the first and only bb squat session.. I gained only 1-2%bw. No peds. No newbgains.
If youre weightlifter did this method help your snatch and CnJ?
Hey guys, so, any thougts on cuban training system???
Definitely tried both ways and less frequently is much better for overall quality
What about squat heavy everyday to accumulate fatigue for 3-5 weeks and then deload?

@slee2695 because it's a waste of time, and spreads like a plague among younger lifters that don't know better. My max squat is 585 lbs

I’m 18 and I can hardly squat twice a week. For some reason I don’t recover very well, and my cns fatigues easily
Squatting hard twice per week already feels like it's hard to recover from, but I'm not optimally built for squats.
