    The chickens are just fine being raised the way they are. I’ve been raised in the city and I know that. If they weren’t happy they wouldn’t be laying eggs like they are and they would be losing feathers and egg shells wouldn’t be as pretty as they are. If you only have criticism comments go elsewhere. Justin and Rebecca are doing what works for them. I have learned so much from them and their UA-cam community. They are human after all.

      Amen Regina Gibson! I have enjoyed every single video Justin Rhodes ever made and I think it’s because I really respect him as a farmer, entrepreneur, creator, and human. What I don’t enjoy is the recent onslaught of negative comments.
      I will continue to be a loyal subscriber and watch every video but I am choosing to quit reading the comments. ✌🏼

    Rebecca,
    Get some 3lb coffee cans and cut BOTH ends off. Set the coffee can over the celery. The stalks needs about 4 weeks of no sun. This will give the celery a milder taste.
    It works very well.😊

    I love how you’re saying it has taken you 19 years.
    Each year I get what my budget allows on starting seeds. Whenever that gets all used up, I get the solo cups. Do I love it? Not really. But it is what I can do and I’d rather grow more of my food and start it in a solo cup than to not grow it at all. And guess what?! I’m almost where I don’t have to do the solo cups anymore. I’m just content with what I can do and each year I’ll keep adding more. My trellis system works the same way. With a large family, I need a lot, but I add a little at a time. And by the end, it will be my happy place and look great!

    How are you able to do a remodel and have a garden? Correct answer is with the help of my lovely hired farm hand. Just saying, from what I have seen she has been a HUGE help. Pepper seeds need for the soil to be a specific temperature. Heat mats help. All of my sweet pepper types sprouted within a week of sitting on top of a heat mat. Those pepper seeds should eventually sprout. Slow process without heat mat. Good Luck and Happy Gardening. Also, Thank you Rebecca for the honesty of telling people to find what works for them. It is good to take in the info people/influencers tell you as inspiration and feedback on products you might be able to afford, but again, everyone must find what works for them.

    Fresh peas and other vegetables from the garden for meals or on the side is the best! I think and hope more people are realizing that grocery store produce and meats are substantially less nutritious than a home garden or farmer’s market. And that’s not even counting the chemicals, wax, and who knows what that’s on and in foods from the grocery stores. We all should strive to grow or buy as many ingredients from local farmers. The better we eat the better our health, hospital bills are outrageous.

    Tip for celery: it’s a marsh plant, it likes a lot of water and the flavor will be really intense with drier soil conditions. Flood it regularly rather than just light watering. Blanch the base by mounding soil or wrapping with cardboard, thick mulch etc.

  • @christinedehn3257
    @christinedehn3257 4 місяці тому +1

    Rebecca, as I understand it celery does best if it is grown in marshy areas. They love water. When you think they have enough, water them again. Because of that they are best grown away from other plants that don't like wet feet. If your celery was too strong tasting they might have been wanting more water. Might want to try more than one variety.

  • @ajb.822
    @ajb.822 3 місяці тому

    On the seed starting stuff. I'm interested in those silicone things for times I want to use something besides soil blocks for whatever reason, although I also do still have a lot of various sizes of reused things from having bought veg, to use as well. But I mainly use soil blocks and overall do ok w em. Not as great as Jim Kovaleski or Jesse Frost and that's my goal. Personally, the reason TO use them has nothing to do w plastic use ( although I'm all for that). It is for the air pruning & less transplant shock, without having to buy "cow" or peat pots etc. . Those last 2, I had a LOT of trouble w after transplanting. Apparently u need to be SURE to bury the top edge of the thing well, or they wick water away &/or make it harder for those to break down/let the roots out more, which also didn't always happen well. But esp. the drying out. For the soil blocks, I like bottom watering per my set up and talent and needs, so I want to invest in the sturdier, solid bottom trays. I got the cheaper ones along w the mesh tray-liners to set the blocks in/on from Johnny's and the bottom trays are breaking badly now, 2 or so seasons in ( & that's with my being fairly careful, and them not being in the sun all that much). But one can also use boot trays (or other sim. ideas) to bottom water stuff. I pinned it due to moving and space to use em where I am now, but had been making wood trays for em ( Soil Blocks. Planned on gentle spray watering like u guys & others). Was using free 2x s I'd inherited and making 3 sided frame - open on one to access blocks better for removal and just cuz - and lining bottom w hardware cloth. Seems great, the lil I've used the one I finished.
    But yes, 100 % agree that everyone needs to figure out things that work for them for now for where they're at and etc. !

    Rebecca was incorrect when she said that artichokes only produce one artichoke per plant. They produce multiple floers and they usually will continue to produce more flowers(fruit) if the first ones are picked when they are ripe.

      I thought she said she only had one artichoke plant and she was going to let it go to flower

      @@goingreenkidsofallages903 That is what she said. She obviously has not ever planted them before.

    The cocozelle zucchini are major producers adn taste wonderful. We planted them once in early July(southern Michigan) and still got a decent harvest before fall. As a family of 4 we can't eat it fast enough with 2 plants. My wife made bread with it and stored a bunch later for bread. The chickens still enjoyed multiple zucchini off them.

    If she planted her leaf lettuce by broadcasting the seed over the entire or half a raised bed, it would be enough to pick a huge family salad every day. Leaf lettuce can be grown very close together, no rows or spacing between plants. You want to pick them when they are small and tender. She needs to shade the celery for it to not be bitter.

    we had put netting w about 4 inch square holes above our raise beds to keep the neighborhood cats out. they never got stuck and it made it too akward for them to walk and scratch or poop in the garden. 0:50

    When you plant your shelling peas, you can plant on both sides of your fence and get a denser row without taking up more space. It works great!
