today is my 85th birthday and I want to thank you for your videos. I have watched you for several years and get a kick out of watching the children grow up. You have been a blessing in my life and I wanted you to know that thank you so much for just being you.
That’s so true wouldn’t it be sensible to have a 4H style as half of school curriculum. Farming skills would reinforce math, science, biology, botany, chemistry, and weather science. How prosperous and educated would our children be. ❤
I agree with you, but since it won't what will YOU do about it. I am volunteering in my community garden and getting certified as a MASTER GARDENER thru my Ag extension so I can teach others. It's about making sure we take care of one another. Even if it just means donations of soil and seeds to your local 4H or FFA
Hi.... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca and nice to see you all I really enjoy watching your video homestead beautiful great good job keep it up bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
You absolutely can Prune squash. There must be something else that's a problem because I Prune my squash every year to open up space to see the squash and lessen powdery mildew. They thrive. So id check for squash vine borrers or something else.
Always start waaay more seeds than you need. You could have an adverse event that takes out several in your garden. You will have plants to ready to replace them. You don't always have time to start more seeds. If you don't use them they go in the compost. Seeds are cheap.
Do you want to be friends with me on tex I'm a girl I'm 38 old I'm in a wheel chair my body hurts me every day so if I ask you too play with your body on tex
Hey Justin, you may want to throw some raw peanuts unroasted in shell in the soil between other plants and water, grow your own peanuts for homemade peanut butter. Harvest and roast. Small compact Top plant and they grow under the ground
The chickens are going to love that squash vine borer in that squash stem. The damage looks like pruning was coincidental. I bet you find a maggot inside the stem, maybe a few.
If you get a freeze dryer i highly recommended blue alpine. I got one because after our home burning down i don't have room to can or store a bunch of jars. I can freeze dry 25lbs of food (2 gallons of liquid in 30-50% less time. Pre freeze meat and its done in 18 hours 😊
Do you want to be friends with me on tex I'm a girl I'm 38 old I'm in a wheel chair my body hurts me every day so if I ask you too play with your body on tex
Future thought... You could harvest pumpkins off hoop trellis....and...leave pumpkin vines up...as shade ...and forage....use the hoop trellis as a place to put the pigs...let them work for you...pull their shelter butted up one end of trellis, and put a gate on the other end...let them eat old vines, and till, and dig weeds..then move the pigs when their done....toss on compost where rows will go along trellis.. cover with tarp...ready to plant next year....working ahead❤
harvester right freeze dryer has codes for % off on a few channels i watch like cog hill farm and they do tons of foods from fresh fruit to candies amazing content on it hugsssss
Why not put in another hoop house /high tunnel for the winter growing. And you can alternate which hoop house the chicken over winter 🥶 and keep crops year round
Next year is probably going to be a cakewalk with the house being done and so so much infrastructure being put in this year. It's unreal how much y'all have gotten done in the last seven months. PS I say "storeboughten" too. Learned it from my mom, who grew up in rural Boone County, WV.
Your squash plants might has squash bug borers. I trim my squash plants and they don't look like yours, but they do when a squash bug borer gets in my plants.
Do you want to be friends with me on tex I'm a girl I'm 38 old I'm in a wheel chair my body hurts me every day so if I ask you too play with your body on tex I'm a cry because my muscles hurt me every day because of my wheel chair
pretty much missed the spring season with some roofing and other things around the place, but got Chickens this spring, AND starting a fall garden. Also Cherry tree actually put on a few cherries for first time this year so that was nice.
Thank you for sharing your life and family with everyone. What a beautiful testament to all your hard work and God's blessings. Do you mind sharing what co-op you are presenting using, I'm trying hard to stay away from GMO's and so many chemicals. God bless you and your family. 🙏❤️
Hey Justin! Can I ask why you don't have something that contains some water for the geese to go into. I'm sure they would love to bath themselves and sit on the water.
They don’t need it and it would be just one more chore. And besides we used to do that for ducks and a chicken drowned and we realized we needed to prioritize our chickens. So now the geese are supportive of the chickens so no bath for them.
@@theJustinRhodesShow that makes total sense. I'm glad I asked as I was going to put a small tote with the goose and chickens and now I won't 🙂. Great content by the way. I have learned so much from abundance plus and the channel. Thank you 👍🏻
@@theJustinRhodesShowhusbandry 101 doesn’t apply to the geese then. Maybe when chicks big enough a pool would be nice. I have geese and chicks. It can work
I prune squash all the time this should not have killed it. You could have transferred something to it from the pruning shears. Butternut squash will wilt if it gets to hot and water does not help. Yet a Zucchini has no problem with heat. I put a 4 foot high raised bed inside both sides of my Cattle Panel tunnel. There I could put a shade cloth over it if it gets to hot. Tomatoes grow better in dapple light not full sun believe it our not. They are a tropical plant that grows under trees.😁
buys cheese, buys chickens and turkeys instead of hatching and raising sustainably, sends meat off to processors, instead of cut and packaging on property, doesn't can... You have some great videos but the fact that your still at the grocery store and paying others to pack your meats is an interesting concept as you continue to state your self sustaining? with all the help you have constantly on your farm.. The packaging and cutting of meat is the best part and I dont get why you send it off to someone else . I dont know about your location but here you rarely get your own meat back from a processing plant. hence why we do it all on property .. Cheesemaking is so much fun and so rewarding (you buy cheese)..... Canning is a wonderful way of keeping your harvest... Sorry I love your vids and watching your interaction with the kids but the fact your making it seem you do it all is a bit concealing on your part..
Ive been a subscriber since the Great American farm tour. I've not seen your views plummet like the last couple years. Justin the Salesman is not why folks watch your videos. Good luck with the channel.
Anytime I seen my horses, goats doing the rump rub. I did a lice check. Once ordered a large order of hay for the winter. Infestation came after that. Had to treat the whole farm. It happens. But the rump rub was the first sign.
I have a sensitive question, after your oldest son’s accident with the dirt bike how has your view on ATVs changed? I see y’all have gotten a four wheeler, are y’all’s children getting taught how to ride them? Genuinely curious
What happened to the giant swimming pond y'all had the huge bull dozer thingy digging out? The one you tore the dock out of. We haven't seen the kids in it this summer. Didn't you even build a beach area at some point? Did it dry up from lack of rain this summer?
😄 I have 10 minutes to kill and see a Rhodes video pop-up. Great, start her up and it's a 30min video! Well, at least I have something extra special to watch later!
Really, it is quite fascinating to see how hard you work and how dedicated you are. From managing the farm, and chores, being a Dad to 5 kids, a husband, a UA-cam Channel, an online Community and A Publishing Business. ALL WHILE BUILDING A NEW HOME! Makes me exhausted typing it all. I hope balance and slowing down are in your near future. God Bless!
my dream for this family is to have a feild with wheat to get their own bread. aswell as animal feed. 10 sq feat per loaf is doable for the land they have.

Hi Mr. Rhodes. It's utterly amazing how beautiful the new hill pasture has turned out. Great job. God bless your new home.
The beautiful one’s dream garden also gives great leaning content for us garden noobs! So thank you Rebecca!
Sometime I would love to see aerial views showing all of the clearing, pond building, etc. you've done over the last few years.
Good idea. Next time for the fall tour

Great tour of the variety of interconnecting, interspecies, food production on your homestead!
Great tour. A lot of work. Good thing you have the kids and Annie. There is no way I would be able to handle what you do since it is just me.
Beautiful home ❤
Don't forget to put freezer alarms on your freezers. That way you'll know when one breaks. You won't lose hundreds of pounds of organic meat.
Such big progress on the farm. Next year with the home remodel under your belt life will be a walk in the park.
The abundance that you make can be celebrated with your neighbors😊❤
Love the way you call the animals "people" and store bought items "boughten".
Happy birthday, Janepar! Many more! God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻
God bless y’all ! You are well Blessed! Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of your followers!

Lovely video. Yes, you can prune squash. It has to be done properly, with good roots on the plant.

For the freezers, look into a WiFi thermostat that has temp alarms to alert if the door gets left open or unplugged or freezer dies.

You’ll want a backsplash in the downstairs kitchen. The wall will be destroyed by all the water usage it will get. 😊
Those squash plants in Zone 1 looked like they may have other issues than cutting the leaves off. Have you checked for Squash Vine Borer?

💚 SO much progress continuing to happen, how exciting to see the house getting close to completion..will you be in by Thanksgiving? 💚
Love the tour! I am curious why you aren't using a walk in freezer at this point? Should be a cost savings.
It’s to spread the risk. If one chest freezer goes out we’re limited in our loss.
Why is there a rag on the corner of the freezer door ?? The doors not closed. WAste.
I like those flats you’re using with the diagonal open cell. Where did you get them? Thanks.
I miss vlogs like this 😊
