  • So I didn't make it to the weathering stages in part 5 - but I wanted to include a bit of detail as I am getting lots of comments from beginner and returning modellers who wanted to see more of the mundane stuff that usually gets cut out of modelling videos.
I am already well underway with the weathering and close to finishing the model, so part 6 will not be far away.
Sorry the video ends so abruptly! I have forged ahead so far with the filming that I didn't know where the installment would end and so didn't film an outro... one of the downsides to doing the voiceover live whilst modelling, but hey I'm uploading again so I gotta just take it as it comes.
Thanks to everyone who commented on the last installment and welcomed me back to the hobby, felt so much love from the comments section it's really given me a boost to push on and get the model finished... now I'm lining up the next projects and trying to decide where to go from here.
    all the best
    Jon

I always like how you explain things, give the how and why, and don't dismiss the less experienced modelers who may not understand certain terms or techniques. Keep up the great work 👍

Awesome to see you posting videos again. Your painting skills/techniques are some of the best on UA-cam, and you do an excellent job of communicating your knowledge to the viewer.

Not being an Armor Modeler, but a Model Railroader, the wealth of info that you use is astounding. The voiceover gives credence to the process to further exemplify why your doing the thing(s) your doing. Good to see you back at it.

Thanks a lot, I switched from recording voice in post to actually voicing while I model, makes it harder but I have the context in my head and dont have to try and remember to put key pointers in. Feedback like this makes me feel its paying off

Nice long informative video. Learned a lot. Always wondered what color to paint the wire cutter handles. Great work, and thanks!

I am really enjoying this series, as your skill at communicating your knowledge and techniques is refreshing. I am looking forward to the weathering steps, as this seems to be an aspect of finishing my models that I find difficult to get right.
    A beautiful job so far!

Hi Gary I'm glad you're enjoying this, especially as I did actually finish the job and you won't be left hanging at the end lol. I did leave it a couple of heard between two of the installments in the series hahaha

      @@ScaleModelMedic -
I realise that there is a gap between the episodes and you came back to theTiger after a break, but I have been catching up with the series as if uninterrupted, so I have come on board through every step.
As I said, I am finding it fascinating and relatable! I will be watching more of your work when I finish the Tiger with you.
      Cheers from Australia!

Welcome back. Great looking King Tiger. I have noticed that I used Micro Sol after a second coat. It left some white residue on my KV-1. Have glossed before that. Was trying to get rid of the silvering. Really looking forward to your next video. Keep 'em coming.

Hi Jon, I'm getting together a whole lot of material and tools to do a Tamiya 1/16 RC KIng Tiger. This is my first kit (yes I know) but I purchased it 15 years ago and I've still not got started (terrible). So I don't have an airbrush system and athough they look great I feel that level of investment and expense must wait for another time.
What I was wondering is can I spray can over the kit with some matt varnish after painting and before decals? Or what would you advice?
    Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, in answer to your question yes you can spray matt over once painted but I wouldn't do this before decals. The matt surface will be rough, albeit on an almost microscopic scale. This will cause air to get trapped under your decals and make the carrier film visible, if you Google "decal silvering" you should find images of what I mean. I would say to apply decals first over either smooth paint or a gloss coat to get a smooth finish, then apply the matt when you're finished to kill the shine and to seal everything in with a protective layer especially as its rc. Good luck you sure picked a hell of a first kit!!

One quick suggestion Jon, could you please include the brand/names of the products you use in the drop down? It doesn't always show and you are sometimes hard to understand (that accent and all 😉)
