@red frost, Auction FEES are 30%, not what the seller gets. The seller would get 70%, which would be $24500. That's $4,500 more than what Rick offered him. You have a brain, please use it. ^-^
2:16 says they are worth $40.000 2:20 if they work, they are worth a lot more!. 3:46 "their was a similar set sold a few years ago for $37.500, so i evaluate these at $35.000"", WTF>>>>????
"If we fire them and they work they are going to be worth a lot more than if they don't" is equal to saying "they would be worth a lot less than $40,000 if we fire them and they don't work"
"They're worth $35,000" - because a similar pair went at auction for around that doesn't make them worth that. It's an estimate, and the actual worth is what someone is willing to buy them for at the time you're selling them, which could be more or could be less. So there's risk there which Rick needs to factor into his offer. There are other risks, such as the fact that Rick needs to report to the police that he bought these, then keep them in storage for at least 30 so the police can come and check them if they think they might be stolen. If they are stolen then Rick just lost whatever he paid for them. It's a quite expensive specialty item which means they might take a while to sell because the group of people willing to buy is relatively small (tying up capital that could be earning money), and Rick might end up having to sell them at auction (in which case there are auction fees). Rick has to pay all his overheads such as taxes, wages, rent etc, then make some profit on top. Lastly, the guy wasn't willing to budge from the estimated value, Rick would have gone up some if the guy was willing to negotiate, but he wasn't. Seems like the guy just wanted a free estimation and some TV exposure. You go to a pawn shop if you want/need cash quickly, but it seems like this guy didn't
Wait, in the shop he said they’re worth “40 thousand” and if they work then they’re worth more but then he appraised them at 35k when they did work. Something’s fishy
Seller: "Help yourself!" Rick: "oh ok thanks". *puts pistols in display cabinet*. Rick:" ... do you want to buy something? I have these great breech loading pistols, just came in"
So 42k at auction (which means the high end) minus 15% (auction fees) = 35,700... so if Rick buys them at 35,000 he is hoping for a 700 profit at best? Good no buy....
This is the perfect set-up. The man proves they can shoot on TV, people see it and will come to him to buy. The show gets a segment, everybody is happy.
ActualBot people don’t do that because they don’t know how pawn shops work, they do it so they can negotiate from that price instead of starting low, if I was him i woulda started with 50, so they could haggle down to 40 and I would get the amount of money I realistically wanted
i often question the authenticity of this show. they’re talking about “after shooting you could hit somebody on the head with the back”. but after firing the barrel would be too hot to touch
I think that it is said a 1000 times but this is a freaking pawnshop! You gotta be out of your mind to even think when the appraiser say 35 000 and you will get offer even near to that. I mean come on, man, this show is on the air close to a decade - haven't you learn.
Rick makes a phone call later that day to Alex (expert) and says why did you say $40,000 or more if they fire!? Go to the shooting range and give him a price of thirty some thousand. Lol, wow 😅😅😅
@@MartyrMachine Auctions don't take 30% fees. That's ludicrous. It's more like 10-15%. Also, the buyer sets a minimum price on the item, so he should take into account the auction fee with there minimum price.
