Alister Overem was buying time in late minute to be declared winner. In Boxing or MMA, you got to fight till last minute. Being ahead in points doesn't not grantee victory. The opposition will go desperate for last minute knock out punch , when he is behind the points. Exactly happened, here

The reason for the Overreem loss was his defensive approach from the start. He didn't attack. Mentally he was already weak against the black opponent. I remember Brock Lesnar 's fight with Overreem. Brock was in the same mindset like Overreem and Overreem was in the same mindset like the black one.
