Nah bruh if Silva wanted to he would’ve stopped playing around, Chael claims that he beat the brakes off of Silva yet he didn’t even knock him out or make him bleed and what’s worse is he literally tapped when he got out in the triangle
Silva was so calm while getting beat up for so long. He was more calm than I was watching it on UA-cam. True champion, never lost confidence in his art form.
Perfect example of winning a fight but losing the war. Big respect to both of these Warriors. I remember the energy of this fight when we watched it live. INTENSE!!
I really like how Chael watches his fingers when he's controlling the face, zero eyepokes despite having his hands over Silva's face. The kind of fair play you only see from an undisputed undefeated champion.
It's amazing to see just how much punishment Chael dolled out, and yet at the start of every round Anderson looks clear-eyed with a spring in his step, and Chael's the one with the bruised, swollen and bloodied face. Two absolute warriors.
Silva trained ancient martial arts where they’re very disciplined in taking pain, mentally and physically, he trains his body to stay strong and firm and learns how to withhold pain and swallow it up
I mean most of the shots landed were not significant. They are just annoying. They do not actually deal any damage. He landed a few good shots on top but the flurry of shots do not have any power or leverage behind them.
I love it at 24:18 when he says, "Are we three-minutes away from having a new champion?", after watching Chael basically dominate the entire fight. Then Rogan jumps in with, "Don't count out Andersson Silva, he's the champion for a reason." -- then see what happened right after that... WOW...!!! GREAT FIGHT, GREAT ENDING...!!!
joe has some sort of sixth sense regarding this, like when he was like don't count out derrick lewis right before his ko of volkov even though volkov was about to win that fight.
@@kuryanthomas1438 Somebody else irl mentioned that to me also -- I'll be paying closer attention now to see if it's true, or maybe were just coincidences...
@Obtuse One I'm pretty sure all his big punches from the top had more power than Weidman's punch that stunned Anderson. I wonder if punches against someone's head that braced against the mat are less effective, hence why so many people go for elbows/cuts in top position these days.
mathjoker You are correct, it is the jolt of the head that causes the most brain damage. Punches to the head where the head is help in place by the floor are just bruising the skin and bone. But with that said, the best punches are those from top where bottom is lifting their head up but gets caught on the way, jolting back down and then bouncing back up again after hitting the floor for two jolts on the brain.
I doubt it. He dominates the best middleweight of all time for 4.5 rounds. That'a something to be prous of. Fighting isn't just about the win; it'a about performance too. That's why I love Chael and this fight.
I bet it DOES. He promised his father on his death bed that he would be world champion, and he was 2 minutes away from it. He was reckless in those final moments, he only needed to coast it from there. Silva could do nothing to him from that position until Chael stupidly gifted him that triangle choke. I bet Chael doesn't live a day without regret for that. Quote from Chael: "I'd give EVERYTHING to be World Champion for one day"... Still doubt he's haunted? He is. I guarantee you.
TemplarsCreed - you’re probably right, but even if Chael “won” the belt, he would have been stripped once the drug test came back. He would still officially never be champion.

@BLACK BULL not really bored. Chael was kicking his ass all fight. Silva has always had dangerous submissions, especially his triangle, and chael has been pretty susceptible to chokes as well. Just great timing by Anderson when Chael got lazy in his guard
this was the first time we ever saw heart from anderson because he never needed it before, and to see how much heart he has was amazing. I wish they'd signed anderson earlier to the ufc, bc he entered already a bit older, and pre-ufc anderson was actually the most dazzling version of him to my eyes.
Every time I see this fight and see Chael lose in the final seconds, I think how angry Chael must have been at himself to lose after dominating Anderson Silva for 5 rounds. Anderson pulled out an amazing win and never gave up. But, even though Anderson won it was such a dominating performance by Chael that you have to respect him. Anderson is the goat, but Chael dominated the goat for 5 rounds before he got caught.
Even if Chael had won this, it would have been overturned and him stripped a couple days later after his failed test. He gave up on himself when he decided to take PEDs, though I guess Silva may have been on something here as well, BUT Silva didnt piss hot in this fight, so we can only be sure of 1

I feel like Chael is known so much for his expert level trash talk and wit, that his crazy good fight talent and relentless ability to keep pushing the fight gets overlooked.
Back in his prime he was my favourite fighter to watch, even as a casual fan who didn't know about his entertainment talent. He came with a certain intensity to the fight, which made them exciting to watch. He brought it. When other wrestlers had more of a lay and pray style, Chael always found himself in exciting fights. He was never calm, like most champions, which ultimately cost him.
I like how chale fans love trying to look for his name in this fight. After this fight whatever he did in the fight up to the point where he got out skilled. @davidknell9676 I know, that was from his Pride days, he became a completely different animal right before he made the transition to the UFC. He obliterated an extremely tough, but not very well rounded, Chris Leben in his UFC debut and the rest is history.
@davidknell9676 You're right though, he was always a great fighter in Pride but he couldn't quite get to elite status due to being prone to submissions. He greatly improved his ground game and submission defense after the loss to Chonan and the high level of Muay Thai striking was already there.

I was there live that night. Anderson was/is my favorite fighter so i was so excited to see the man fight live. As this fight progressed, round after round of getting taken down and smothered, I thought "oh man. of all the nights I cam to see him live, he's going to lose. great." and then those final seconds happened. In the stands, there's no commentary, so you're just kind of trying to see what's happening on the ground through the big screens. The ref called it off, and we all kind of stood there in silence, almost as if- 'wait, what just happened!?' After we realized he caught him in a triangle and won, we all lost our shit. It was amazing. I have a picture with Anderson from 2 days prior at an open workout in Concord, and I kept the ticket in the same picture frame. Greatest fight I've been to.
What a night! You watched one of his greatest fights live, man. Maybe you didn’t watch him overwhelm and dismantle his opponent as he usually did most of his fights, but you were there when he pulled off an incredible win at the very last round, after losing the whole match, he won against all odds during the bout itself. He defeated a legend like Chael Sonnen on the ground! I think that it made it more unique and special watching him win a title fight that was already lost than other performance.

I blame his corner. They pumped him up and pushed him for a finish. If they had half a brain between the 4 cornermen, they'd have told him to chill out, stand back, and not try to be too aggressive or to finish. He had already undisputably won 4 rounds, that was a kamikaze strategy.
@@olisk-jy9rz I agree. I mean idk what the corner said/did but the whole time watching this (hindsight 20/20) I was thinking the same thing. He should have been more defensive in the 5th. But also there is a chance he could have gotten wrecked if he didn't apply this pressure.

@Obtuse One I'm pretty sure all his big punches from the top had more power than Weidman's punch that stunned Anderson. I wonder if punches against someone's head that braced against the mat are less effective, hence why so many people go for elbows/cuts in top position these days.
@@mathjoker Weidman's punch just landed perfectly
mathjoker You are correct, it is the jolt of the head that causes the most brain damage. Punches to the head where the head is help in place by the floor are just bruising the skin and bone. But with that said, the best punches are those from top where bottom is lifting their head up but gets caught on the way, jolting back down and then bouncing back up again after hitting the floor for two jolts on the brain.

That's a amazing story . epic night bro ... Much love n respect
thats hella sweet
Epic
This is the most perfect example of Hard Work vs Smart Work 💔 I wanted Chael to win Dude was an animal 💯💯💯
This one hurts bad. Fantastic fight by both fighters, Silva withstanding blow after blow and finally coming in with a quick submission in round 5, Sonnen absolutely dominating the Goat for 23 straight minuets, it was all fantastic. Incredibly sad loss for the fighter who gave prime Silva something to respect.
and then got popped in the second fight.
Chael sonnon was found packed with steriods the next day and was suspended for 2 years, Anderson silva team revealed he had a broken rib and was sick but he still took the fight. Chael sonnen was never a real fighter, In there next fight 3 years later Chael sonnon quit in 2 minutes of the 1st round.
@@BERNARD7269 He was suspended in 2014. This fight was 2010
@@BERNARD7269 I'm sure Silva wasnt juiced as well... 😒
it looked like a Amateur wrestle hs fight
"is it too early for Chael to start celebrating?"

Yes Joe, yes it is.
I'm also glad Chael lost lol
@kommisar THAT'S complete byullshit, Silva never was close to koing, unlike Chael that knocked him down thrice and hurt him many more times on the ground. The beating Silva took shortened his career and probably gave him brain damage as well
@kommisar Silva needed a TKO, KO or tap to win. No judge would score that for him. Silva did a great job defending himself tho which is why Chael looks battered and he doesn't.
10 years later it still crushes me every time for Chael. I felt so bad for him watching it live the first time I think I almost cried 😂. Both legends of the sport. Credit to Silva for finding a way to win.
A real man cries ! No shame in that game !
I remember too
wonderful fight
It's not so easy to beat the champ.
Pierce Hughes dude when they ask him about his dad, I know you told your dad you would get the belt what would you tell him ? And he replies I’ll tell him I tried. - chael that one chokes me up , and he did he should be proud of himself and his dad is to
So lucky to have seen this live!! Man, it’s exactly as I remembered.
Anderson: Look at this cool triangle thing I can do
Chael: "Okay great"
just HOW GOOD is ANDERSON'S GRIP!!
*"Luk atch thish"
Lmao
Anderson: Give me your arm
Chael: I CAN'T LET YOU GET CLOSE
No where does the rematch fit in? ARE ALL THE PIECES. PUT. TOGETHER?
Silva, forever the class act, manages to hold Chael’s belt for him despite the intense beating took the entire fight.
Hey, he weathered that beating and persevered. That takes a true champion.
Tap is a tap
Sonnen lost! Silva won!
@@charlesclark9627 how is that possible when sonnen has never lost a round 🥱
Everyone forgets the failed drug test by sonnen, even if he won he would have got stripped
The greatest almost-win in the history of sports
Falcons vs Patriots Super Bowl
@@omegamanGXE Victor Oladipos missed dunk when he was in college is another one
@@omegamanGXE or Seahawks lol
@@stopmarcus3605 yeah as soon as I posted that I wondered why I didn’t write Seahawks/Patriots XLIX, they snatched defeat from the jaws of an epic 4th quarter victory
This is the most underrated fight I have ever seen.
It’s both amazing that chael beat up Anderson for that long and it’s equally amazing Anderson pulled that shit out the bag. Fights like these is what makes this sport great.
Undefeated, undisputed, never lost a round.
The women's pet, the men's regret.
He's the guy with the biggest arms, the greatest charm and the bad guy that does the most harm!! 💪💪💪
@MG16NCP were you touched?
This shit is GOLD haha
Some people cannot have a laugh and are so bitter and twisted I honestly pity you. Uncle Chael UNDEFEATED UNDISPUTED
@MG16NCP delusional? my guy there has nothing but solid facts.
Money laundering
This fight still breaks my heart, every time I see it.
Chael was amazing, but that's mma for you folks, and that's Silva, it only takes one small mistake, protect yourselves at all times is not just something they say.
One of my favorite fights of all time
The fact that Chael's face was more damaged than Anderson's still astonishes me to this day.
I don't even know when did Chael take so much damage
Right I still don't get it
Lighter the skin color=more easily visible damage. Make no mistake silva was FUCKED up
Durability depends a lot on genetics.
@@Vegeta68041 not at all. He was getting destroyed even though silva was on the bottom with elbows and the brief times they were fighting standing he was getting pieced also.
