Ahhhh, the excitement was real back then. Trading body punches, face kicks,, leg locks and toe locks.. 😅😅 Both great competitors and very capable. Miss those days, not so much current matches.
I get that this may be considered a boring fight by casual mma fans, but to me this is awesome. A lot of casuals don't understand how painful, and physically draining it is to battle in the clinch while taking and giving constant body shots over and over and over and over again. You can see the drama on their faces, and it's basically two men with ego's the size of Texas trying to test each others endurance, and resolve. Who will break first was the storyline of this fight, and neither guy broke despite being in intense pain, and exhaustion. They didn't want to waste too much energy trying to advance their position in the clinch because they were both so freaking strong, and it's not like they were just laying on each other. They were resisting each other the entire fight battling to get off the ropes, and trying to reverse position, and trying to wear each other down so they could finish well in the third round. If I got hit with that many short body shots by these men, I would have puked my guts out eventually, and I would probably tap to strikes before the end of the first round, and then I would start selling insurance or something instead of fighting professionally. The third round wouldn't have even been necessary for most fighters in this situation. If either of these guys fought this type of fight against a lot of the fighters today, it would be game over pretty quickly due to sheer exhaustion, and their raw strength, and endurance, yet these guys are able to go toe to toe in the clinch like two bears locked in a struggle for dominance, and territory, and were still able to explode at the end. If these guys can get one underhook, they have control, and if you make a mistake, you get taken down and either get submitted by Ken, or you end up with Don Frye on top of you which is basically hell on Earth. God forbid you have a barrage of heavy strikes coming at you with a huge mustache behind them. That mustache has a chin of it's own, and it's made of steel.
Learn paragraphs and many understand the pain. My girlfriend couldn’t even watch it cause she doesn’t like to see the pain and she’s never watched a fight.
I was a casual when I was a kid, I saw a replay on this and I was in suspense the whole time. I thought it's some kind of WWE in the first round until my dad told me it's for real haha.
Don Frye and Randy Couture are my top 2 favorite fighters of all time. Both absolutely amazing warriors, especially Don Frye. I think it's impossible to dislike him. The manliest man that ever lived while also being very honorable, humble and respectful.
If Don Frye was able to start MMA in his 20s, he would have been the greatest fighter of all time. Started at 31 years old and won 15 out of 16 fights in 6 years. His age and fighting style eventually caught up with him.. but, it’s hard not to imagine if he started 8-10 years earlier…
Dan Severn was another favourite of mine too. He has that same respectful attitude and a natural beast. I wish we able to see more future fights with him because he quit too early.
Don Frye admitted he had ankle problems for a while after this fight and got hooked on pain killers because of it. It was nice and cool to see last year Ken went on Don and Dan's podcast and reminiscence about this fight and just joke an laugh about it now
It was probably the best thing shamrock could do was hug his way through the fight. Don Frye was one of the deadliest strikers and there was no way he would have survived trying to throw hands. It was purely demonstrated the moment the hugging needed to stop and got rocked in a matter of seconds. Both legends and love how don took the time to raise his hand as a winner too, pure class.
Well Ken was never a striker so the obvious gameplan for him is to grapple. TBF Ken probably had never thrown as many strikes as he did here in his career
I think the strike Frye landed that put Ken to the ground was the decision breaker there. Otherwise it was an evenly matched fight through and through. It was like if each one of them were cloned and had to fight themself, that’s what we had here. They were identical in there moves and fighting style but someone had to be declared a winner. Such a close fight👍
@@Strongboy1770 speaking of, that would have been amazing to see these two Warriors and Marco Ruas in their prime in a Japanese Tournament😱 throw in a prime Oleg T and let er rip💪🏻
I just watched some WWF from around the time Ken was there and he looked much more physically developed then he did here. His arms were huge and his chest and shoulders were very wide and broad. He looked like a real ass kicker
It would be hard to find two men like this in the UFC. There has been some rivalries in the UFC, but never anything like this. Two men with the only mission was to break the will of the other. Incredible.
This was such a terrific fight right from the very start to very end!... A fight can only be good when both the players give whole of their soul to it, and here both of these legends gave each and every drop of their blood and sweat. And Don is obviously one tough man to deal with, but ken on the other hand also just didn't give up despite grounded and pounded so hard at one point of time in the match. I wonder how many fighters can actually do that... Not many, actually. I deeply respect both of these fighters!...

"As soon as I walked out of the arena & got back behind that curtain, boy, I fell like a stone...We got pictures of me & all my crew in the locker room, & I'm laying on a table with ice on both ankles." -Don Frye, from J. Snowden's book about Shamrock. Dude was tough.
"The final tally for Frye: a hairline fracture of his right ankle, a sprained left ankle & a partially torn meniscus. He would later admit the fight led to his subsequent painkiller addiction." -from the same source, how he didn't tap I'll never understand
I'm getting old enough to forget the results of these legendary fights. Memory loss is not all bad.
Same here
Now go re-watch the Tyson fights.
Same here. I think. No wait I forgot. Nevermind
Same
lol LG
You just have to love the sportsmanship of these two guys. That embrace at the end just shows that it's all about the sport and that's it, no bad blood afterward.
I heard Don Frye went home and built a log cabin right after this match.
Yoooo 😂😂😅
Its the log cabin bob ross paints
LOL
He didn’t cut the trees, though, he stared them down.
I heard he had to fight off a bear while he was building it. The bear tapped. Frye had a beer and went on to finish building the log cabin.............
I love how at the end when Don is celebrating at the ropes, you can see Yoshihiro Takayama staring at him from the crowd.
Warriors..Intensity..Skills..Determination..Bravery..Stoic..For the Honor..Respect..Don did win it and remains one of my all time favorites!!❤️👍🏼
2 absolute UNITS and legendary hall of Famers, Can't believe I just found this fight. Thanks for the upload!
Вот они, настоящие мужчины, ни какой злобы после боя, только уважение )))
Real men, ready to fight no money involved.
@@poohead8022 Да, Вы правы!
@@Bear-1972 Без комментариев, Вы правы!
Этот респект, для этих ребят, это обычный гешефт? А как их здоровье?! Система отстой, что нет другого зароботка!?
I could see Don Frye being a beast in his firefighting gear carring out 2 victims of a fire on each shoulder. Just a no nonsense badass. Shamrock is a warrior too
Magnum pi on ROIDS... lmfao i grew up watch these guys from the beginning. Outstanding
I like Shamrock but Don Frye in my opinion was the Master of the staredown.......2 Legends right here
poker face on a can of whoop ass !
Ken's reversal at 21:40 was brilliant wrestling.
Nothing fancy just good basic wrestling
It was clench...put him back in the game.
Warriors...both.
WTF don fall down hahahahaha
@@fernandorocknroll7713 Yeah, because Ken hooked his leg and rolled him. lol
the shamrocks were always great wrestlers. they were dominant af back in the day
Ahhhh, the excitement was real back then. Trading body punches, face kicks,, leg locks and toe locks.. 😅😅 Both great competitors and very capable. Miss those days, not so much current matches.
These 2 guys are titans of this sport. both of them have been just fantastic to watch in the ring
the UFC wouldn't be what it is today without the legends Don Frye and Ken Shamrock.
Bas Ruten as announcer! LEGENDARY
I liked Bas but the thing was just steroids and fixed fights. And they didn't ever get the best people. So was just a niche drug sport
Love the old UFC fights. Respect to Don and Ken. Great fight with good discipline and sportsmanship 👍
😂😁🤘
Learn paragraphs and many understand the pain. My girlfriend couldn’t even watch it cause she doesn’t like to see the pain and she’s never watched a fight.
I was a casual when I was a kid, I saw a replay on this and I was in suspense the whole time. I thought it's some kind of WWE in the first round until my dad told me it's for real haha.
great explanation
Estos si que son dos gigantes de acero. No los vas a noquear tan facilmente.
Anyone wish Don was this young today so he could face off against Jake Paul?
Don Frye and Randy Couture are my top 2 favorite fighters of all time. Both absolutely amazing warriors, especially Don Frye. I think it's impossible to dislike him. The manliest man that ever lived while also being very honorable, humble and respectful.
My top 2
He really is the best
If Don Frye was able to start MMA in his 20s, he would have been the greatest fighter of all time. Started at 31 years old and won 15 out of 16 fights in 6 years. His age and fighting style eventually caught up with him.. but, it’s hard not to imagine if he started 8-10 years earlier…
Dan Severn was another favourite of mine too. He has that same respectful attitude and a natural beast. I wish we able to see more future fights with him because he quit too early.
Bet his mom is proud too!😊
Glad to never hear any negative about his life outside the ring.
Ken pulverized Fugita with strikes till he was exhausted
Don was not a deadly striker. He always got his ass handed to him by real strikers.
lol "one of the deadliest strikers"
@@MTouran2-5-1 yeah it absolutely right.
Don is built like every cool action figure I had as a kid
I could barely watch the whole time! The savagery was insane throughout. Mad respect to them both
It was a great fight
We are Savages
I think the strike Frye landed that put Ken to the ground was the decision breaker there. Otherwise it was an evenly matched fight through and through. It was like if each one of them were cloned and had to fight themself, that’s what we had here. They were identical in there moves and fighting style but someone had to be declared a winner. Such a close fight👍
It could do either way, Ken won the first round, tie on the second, Frye in the third. Would've been a great draw.... or coin flip
хороший коммент!
agree
Too bad there no King of the Streets then. No rounds, anything goes, fight continues to knockout or submission.
@@Strongboy1770 speaking of, that would have been amazing to see these two Warriors and Marco Ruas in their prime in a Japanese Tournament😱 throw in a prime Oleg T and let er rip💪🏻
Don was always my favorite but nice to see Ken in his prime !
This was not kens prime
Yeah this was after Ken had already left WWF. His body was falling apart by this point.
I just watched some WWF from around the time Ken was there and he looked much more physically developed then he did here. His arms were huge and his chest and shoulders were very wide and broad. He looked like a real ass kicker
@@kid--presentable yes, unlike most, when I'm wrong I admit it. He just looks pretty young here so I just thought..... anyhow, both great fighters !
@@MrTodd2000 absolutely pal
Pride meant something else in those days.
Don Frye's one of a kind ... A great warrior in the ring outside the ring hes a pure genetleman and patriot who loves being American 🇺🇸
Don Frye, what a legend, Merica could use more Don Fryes right about now.
Don Fries ?
Stay in your lane, 'merican.
They'd just cancel him for "toxic" masculinity or something equally as cringy
Imagine these two legends fought in their prime years. That would have been an explosive match.
At one point, Don Frye was rated the #2 MMA fighter of all time, and Ken Shamrock was rated #10 - in a top 10 rating of MMA fighters.
Is 37 old for white men? LOL
Here it was in their Prime
@@marcinluberadzki6422 in the early 90's both men prime was in the ufc when their was no weight class.
Ken was never much of an explosive striker lol
For them to go through what they just went through, they're both winners!!!
It would be hard to find two men like this in the UFC. There has been some rivalries in the UFC, but never anything like this. Two men with the only mission was to break the will of the other. Incredible.
Don Frye proved once again that he was a real life TERMINATOR !!! God bless you Don and thank you brother !!! ❤👍🥊🥊🤩😁🏆
Predator, not Terminator.
What an absolute battle to warriors. Wish the mma was still like this
This was such a terrific fight right from the very start to very end!...
Ken's whole body shakes when he gets hit with those body shots early.
MMA will never reach the greatness of the Pride days ever again
ya its FN WEAK NOW!!
