About The Carol Burnett Show
While there’s no truth to the rumor that “CBS” ever stood for The Carol Burnett Show, for eleven seasons and 278 episodes, this star-studded extravaganza of sketch comedy, song and dance became entertainment central for the network and TV viewers. Burnett operated in a relaxed theater setting that allowed her to take questions, cut loose with her famous Tarzan yell and join fellow performers Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner to have a laugh or sing a song. The show received 25 Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globes, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.

It's so good to watch Rita Hayworth's work beyond the Goddess of Love character. She was talented, often underrated as an actress. Her voice sounded beautiful and her hands were so expressive. It's great that we can appreciate how good she was in various roles and in different time periods. Thank you very much for posting!
Jim Bailey and Jimmy James were the best. They did drag as art, not as clowning or a mockery of women.
Rita Hayworth was so gracious, and still beautiful. Love watching these videos.😊
I'm so glad we had this time together.
It really must have been nice to turn the TV on every week and see this kind of talent and entertainment, not to mention a legendary star. Lucky generation!
It was!
Saturday nights had great TV from 8pm - 11pm
Certainly was☺👍
Loved every minute of it!
Yes we were lucky
That Jim Bailey is awesome
Carol was ahead of her time having Jim Bailey as her guest.
He was very talented, wow….
I had never heard of him before! he's good!
Wow…..Jim Bailey was fabulous ….so much like the real voice …..incredible
I really miss shows like this.
Rita Hayworth.don’t get any better than that
Jim Bailey was absolutely amazing! Too bad we lost him too soon.
77 was all right.
Rita Haywort was so sweet, God bless her!
Great TV... This is exactly what this world needs today :)
Carol Burnett was just a true genius! To have a show to blend in old and new worlds, musicals, songs and dance numbers! And every color under the rainbow! That's entertainment!
Jim was great and he sang all the songs!
Beyond nice...we scheduled our lives around the Carol Burnett show and then talked and laughed about it for days afterward. 😊😊😊
Omg, I love Rita Hayworth! 😍😍😍
The sets are always so well put together !!!!
Before I was born, my mom watched "The Carol Burnett Show" every week. After I was born, she'd hold me, and we'd watch it together. I never had a set bedtime, and I'd always fall asleep just as Carol brought out her guest book, and Dad would carry me to my room and put me to bed.
At my high school's open house, I was in a silent comedy sketch, in which played an old lady who was at the mercy of crowds in an elevator. Afterwards, a complete stranger said I was just like Carol Burnett. It's still the best compliment I ever got.
And, because of all the Bob Mackie costumes I saw on Carol's show, my closet is full of the sequinned, beaded, rhinestoned, and feathered costumes that I wore when I had a cabaret act. Carol's show (and "Sonny & Cher") had taught me that you can't go onstage unless you're dressed to the TENS.
Jim Bailey - wow I didn't realize he died almost a decade ago now. That's a perfect Phyllis Diller impression, and Phyllis and Carol were very good friends. She was a lot older than Carol but I think they met in NY when Carol was a newbie into showbiz and they used to look for work together.
I am so PROUD to have Carol as a hero, having Jim Bailey on was such an amazing and powerful statement
In what way was Jim Bailey's appearance on The Carol Burnett Show "an amazing and powerful statement"? Carol stated that she had seen him perform and was impressed enough to invite him onto her show. It's as simple as that, isn't it?
Bailey was a consummate entertainer wasn ‘t he?
@@karlakor exactly People project way way more into situations sometimes than was ever there. Burnett was smart and she always looked for new talent.
Hero you say? Was he Ukrainian?
TBH when I saw this show the first and second times, it didn't even register that having Jim Bailey on was making a PC statement about LGBTQIA+ acceptance. I just thought he was an amazing performer, and I enjoyed the hell out of his impressions. Sex or sexual preference didn't even crossdress my mind. I'm really getting sick of all this PC crap. I just want to sit down and enjoy watching Liberace or Richard Simmons and not have to think about what people do in private, straight or otherwise! 😡
I remember watching this episode when it originally aired, so I remember some things about it that are not included here. After Jim Bailey's performance as Streisand, Carol talked to him while he was still in character and reminded "Streisand" of the time she appeared on The Garry Moore Show and sang, for the first time ever, "Happy Days Are Here Again", which had been arranged for her by the Garry Moore production staff. "Streisand" pretended not to remember, Carol tried to prompt her memory, then Streisand said, "don't argue with me, darling. I'm a superstar."
It’s a shame they took out questions from the audience. Carol was always so funny and gracious!
The clothes! You deserve a show at the Met Costume Institute. I know it was Bob, but you bring life to the garment.
I think it would be nice to include the original air date. Anyone else? Loved it!
February 1, 1971
Thanks!
Yes! I’m often mining IMDB trying to find out how old guests were when they were on!
Agreed.
I grew up watching the Carol Burnette show. I still love this show. Share this with friends and family. Thank you for the laughs😄Hugs💖
Rita Hayworth are you kidding, Carol should have felt extremely grateful for the opportunity!!
The Lovely Story sketch makes me want to watch the movie so much!
It will make you cry.
There's apparently also a sequel
Shades of Eunice in Carol’s hair and costume for the Brown Derby Sketch.
i was thinking the same thing
Must beenweee
Must have been where the idea for lEunice’s look was born.
I thought so too!
This episode is so friggin funny! 😂. Love these old shows, and all the actors ❤️
Seeing the ending of this and now Rita and Harvey being gone just made me cry.
Me too. Tears are flowing
Love means never having to say you're sorry.
Saw this on black n white t.v in 1971.This was at the time when poor Rita's Alzheimer were slowly Keeping up on her.
She looks like a little bit like Lucille ball in that one
I read somewhere that when Judy saw Jim "do" her, she remarked, with her usual self-deprecating humor, "I had no idea that I was so pretty!"
First time seeing this episode. Great spoof. Thanks for sharing.
Thumbs up!
How cute Glen Campbell was there!!!
What makes you think she wasn't? She did write about Rita's appearance and said that she had a lot of trouble learning the dance routine but rose to the occasion...
Rita Hayworth, still a looker at 52
52's not old
Yeah, considering what she was going through at the time.
Love you 😍
Amazing 🤩
Ha, at first, Korman’s costume reminded me of Harry Potter.
Ingenioso
What I wouldn't giveth either that audience any night amazing people
Now I remember the famous female impersonator.
Those pants on Vicki Lawrence during the Rita Hayworth sketch-- they look spray painted on! Such a figure on that girl...
I'm sitting here rocking my baby, he is 3 months old. My daughter is 25 yrs old. My husband and I are NOT that young lol. But God has a great personality lol and blessed us with a baby boy. Now he is already cutting teeth and he is crying a lot these days. I love rocking him and binge watching these shows. Thank u for keeping me sane lmao
Here's some algorithmic support.
👏👏👏
rita h was prob sick with alzheimer's already i remember a story that she had her lines written on her menu in the restaurant skit b/c she was struggling already.
Excelente video 👍
👏👏👏👏
I remember seeing this when it first aired on Febr. 1, 1971.......but it is not the full episode, some of the Jim Bailey footage is cut out
They could do big-budget variety shows back then, because there were only 3 networks. This meant massive viewership, which meant massive advertising dollars from sponsors.
Today, there are hundreds of channels, so each channel gets only a tiny fraction of the total viewing audience, which means tiny advertising dollars from sponsors. Streaming of on-demand content, means an even more fragmented audience, and nothing's a "special" any more.
Muy graciosos
I remember those pants Vicki has on in the Hayworth skit. They had a zipper on the side. Seems like I had a pair or tried some on as a child. I know my mom or aunt had some.
Its genial
Carol looks like Jodie Arias in the library.
Those who dislike this do not like anything in life. What a *sad* life they lead. But this episode is not the FULL show. The video of Vicki singing `When You've Got Good Friends' has been cut. What gives??
You are correct. At least 12 minutes are missing. Shows of that era were always 50 to 51 minutes without commecials.
This never said it was the full show, remember. The full shows can be purchased on DVD don’t forget!!
This never said it was the full show. The full shows can be purchased on DVD don’t forget!!
Harvey was so fabulous
@@MTknitter22 Yeah, it does. "This month we’re celebrating mothers! And today we’re celebrating our favorite “Tourist Mother” with the obnoxious and hilarious mother-daughter Brown Derby duo of Carol and Vicki in this FULL episode from The Carol Burnett Show!"
For me one of the most important things about these old clips is the date that they aired and they never post the date.
Que guapa
Episode 420 lol I think they on 420 hahhahha
👏🏻👏🏻🤭
mother
FULL show? NOT! At least 12 minutes are missing. Shows of that era were always 50 to 51 minutes without commercials. I suspect music right issues are the cause for some missing segments.
There was also the question and answer segment at the beginning of the show that’s missing.
First like first comment
👍
Is Carol wearing a wig at the beginning of the show when she is talking to the audience !!!!????
Hey!! Glen Campbell !
Idk there was a Taco Bell in the 70s.
This is Rita Hayworth ? I could not recognize her at all .
RITA SHOWED NO SIGNS OF THE TERRIBLE DEMENTIA THAT TOOK HER BEFORE SHE WAS 70....
Sammy Davis Jr broke the color barrier on the Carol Burnett show there where no black people on the Carol Burnett show.
In a terrible coincidence, Rita Hayworth and (surprise guest) Glen Campbell both would be taken by Alzheimer's.
This is so dated .....not in a good way 😂
Nice female impersonator.
It iis absolutely stipid to show in the scenes the actor is chewing a gum.
