I had a huge crop of skin tags on my neck and in my armpits and I was engaging in all kinds of home remedies to eradicate the little suckers. A few months into keto and IF I discovered that they had simply disappeared. I never saw them go. I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye😢.

Two years ago I started keto and I noticed that all of my skin tags went away whereas every four years I’d have to go to the dermatologist and have them taken off also my scalp psoriasis went away also so for whatever reason I went off of it the skin tags are back even though I don’t have any sugar in my house except for what I feed the hummingbirds I still eat more carbs than I should so I’m trying to get back on keto. And I can tell when I’ve eaten too many carbs because my scalp psoriasis starts to itch. I love your channel I have shared it with my daughter she is diabetic and she still listens to the doctors I’m 74 so I figure I can’t be messing around with my health any longer thank you for all the information you share your helping us to live longer

I'm just a regular non-medical field person. I have had skin tags increasingly grow on my face. When I asked my D.O. about them he dismissed my concern. I did my own research and started searching for connections between IR, skin tags and uterine fibroids.
At any rate it feels great to watch this and see that a medical professional acknowledges the hidden cause of skin tags.

If I follow my My Dr's advice on eating carbs, I'd probably be dead already. The advice is I need carbs to maintain. I'm on zero to very low carb & I do IF at least 3 times a week 18/6 ratio. I know I have Insulin Resistance even thou not clinic diagnosed. Even with my diet & exercise regiment, I still don't get blood sugar as low as I'd like. Fasting blood sugar ranges from 115 to 135. Being Diabetic is a daily struggle. If I was to eat like I used to, my blood sugar would exceed 400 very easily. Great video! I've received many great food choice recommendations here. The info is Wonderful.

@@genxx2724 Regardless of maintaining low insulin/carbs/sugars, fat can still increase your weight. Many keto dieters have trouble stalling out on weight loss with too much fat. Doesn't take as much as you think. As low as 80-100 g per day can stall weight loss. Can drink that in coffee with heavy cream alone, not counting food.

I hear the same info being trumpeted all over, yet the truth is so much more complex : I have not eaten sugar for at least 20 years, my diet has been picture perfect ( mainly green veggies, eggs, fish & chicken, herbs, nuts & seeds) and yet I have IR and a huge belly on my thin, well exercised body frame.
Obviously, there’s more to IR than fits into this nice neat box. While the above info may be a good start for SOME people there’s obviously much more to be figured out 🤔

Look into doing some longer fasts at the right time in your cycle. And also improving your sleep. You lay have cortisol which is too gigh so then add a few of natures carbs at the right time in your cycle and make sure your sleep is good with magnesium. Much more to do with this but it is a starting point. Look into Dr. Mindy Pelz

I'm pre-diabetic, have ME/CFS, and no appetite. I always wonder how I can be pre-diabetic and also have no appetite and don't have excessive thirst. (And I don't have gastroparesis - no appetite often goes hand in hand with that.) I don't feel any spikes in blood sugar now... I used to (had symptoms of hypoglycemia - my father was diagnosed with that) when I was younger, and I've been on the edge of pre-diabetes for years. I've eaten the healthy way you describe my whole adult life, including low carbs (lower than what you suggest) because I had undiagnosed slow onset of ME/CFS and have been trying to take care to support my body as best I could. I don't even like sweets (and my genetics confirm this). This lack of interest in sweets is no doubt a blessing given that I've struggled with pre-diabetes for so long. I have skin tags and hair loss. My doctors have recommended nothing and have not even noted that I'm pre-diabetic even though I've seen the results on my labs (I always get a copy for myself). I sometimes wonder if they say nothing to me because I've been steady pre-diabetic for years, without seeming change. Perhaps because they know about my diet and the fact that I can't increase my activity level. I'm also genetically not a candidate for Metformin.
I watch these videos in case I learn something new. This doesn't mention the role of intermittent fasting in reducing insulin resistance.
Lately I've been sticking to an intermittent fasting pattern: 14 hour break between the last meal of the day and the first meal of the next day, and that seems to be helping in that I've been losing weight steadily without changing my diet. (I'm not trying to lose weight and eating the same amount.) 16 hours is recommended for men and 14 to 15 for women. I'll be interested to see what my labs look like.

It's unfortunate that she used the term "brown spots" because there are multiple kinds of "brown spots". I suspect she was trying to avoid being overly technical, but in this case I think it was not helpful.
The brown spots she is talking about is something called Acanthosis Nigricans. You can google this term for images and compare with what you have.

Dr Gillaspie, why is my blood sugar typically over 100 in the morning, even though I'm eating VERY low carb? I've been focusing on keeping it to 10-15 net carbs, just in case I'm missing something.
    My main current practice:
Meal 1: Eggs, sometimes with homemade guacamole (avocados, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, squeeze of lemon) - sometimes skip #1
Meal 2: simple meat; cauliflower - roasted with cheese, mashed, or riced; or other non starchy veggie.
(Yesterday we had salad with pressure cooker chicken breast, shredded)
Treat: either hot chocolate (unsweetened, vanilla almond milk; cacao powder, monk fruit erythritol blend; 2 tbsp heavy cream)
    OR
Glass of ice, splash of almond milk, half can olipop root beer, splash of heavy cream for sensation of ice cream
I typically keep this within 8 hour window, ALWAYS at least 12 hour break.
Do you think i need to get rid of the treat?

    • @lmajor7843
      @lmajor7843 3 роки тому +17

I am a recovering sugar addict. I can't have alcohol any more either, not even a little bit, because it triggers my sugar craving, which leads to overeating. Maybe because the stuff I like to drink (wine) is basically grape juice, I don't know, but there seems to be a connection between alcohol and sugar. FWIW, when I get a sweets craving, I try eating something bitter (green tea, grapefruit, black, strong coffee) and it often kills the craving. Also, going outside and moving helps, even for just 20 minutes, day or night. Also, sleep,if you can manage it; a quick nap helps because I often eat to stay awake or to deal with stress of my work or because I am thinking of something sad from my past. If I can get 5 or 10 minutes of sleep (close my office door, lay down right under the desk, use an alarm) it helps. God bless.

Ken, try making up some fat bombs, plenty of recipes on here, but it's basically coconut oil covered with some dark chocolate, frozen. It's a teeny bit of sweet w/satiating fat. Maybe it will help. My grampa was an alcoholic, back in the day his dr told him to eat sweets when he started craving alcohol, btw it never worked for him. Remember alcohol is carbs, and your body doesn't differentiate between carbs in booze, bread or table sugar...it's all sugar to the body. If you live in a state where it's legal, maybe some thc gummies or cbd/thc oil would help both the alcohol and sugar cravings. Good luck to you.

I have skin tags on my eyelid and many elsewhere, which started to appear about 7 years ago, when I went through menopause, and yes, I was living on sugar and hi-glycemic carbs nearly all my life. Interesting that you mention they are early indications of insulin resistance. I am so concerned about diabetes, that I am very motivated to change my life, which is a good thing. And I tell everyone I can about your videos, both this series and the one you have with your husband. BTW, do you know any natural way to remove skin tags? I have heard iodine helps. But I may just have to have them removed by a dermatologist. Thanks again, Dr. Becky, and God bless your good work.

I find Keto helps me loose weight fast but I can not be it long term...I start to feel tired, hungry and gives me constapation, I exercise daily, including weight lifting ...when I add carbs, in the form of brown rice, home made bread and pasta ( which means no added sugars) I will have more energy, my bowels start moving and I can lift that weight at the gym....so viewers test on your own body, Keto in my opinion , should not be a
long term diet at any age....💃🏻🕺

More than a decade ago, my doctor advised me that my blood sugar/A1C, was too high, but didn’t do further testing. So, I immediately gave up all sugar, even though I never ate much of it, and processed foods, which contain lots of sugars, as well as all simple carbohydrates, except for one or two servings of fresh fruit daily. I felt the benefits right away, because I stopped getting skin fungal infections (intertrigo) and my blood sugar us normal. I have lost lots of weight over the years, but hardly any fat from around my middle. It’s partly because I’m short-waisted, I never had great waist definition, even when young and far underweight, my shape has always been straight, with quite narrow hips and shoulders, making my waist seem thicker by comparison. But, I worry about this visceral fat around my organs. Even daily exercise doesn’t seem to budge it. I see this thick middle on virtually all middle-aged women, even if thin like me. I didn’t medically qualify for replacement hormones, which can help this middle fat storage, so that’s not an option. It is so difficult to find clothes that fit, they’re designed for women with a waist 12 inches smaller than hips, which I never had.

Need to do a video on how someone can have normal glucose levels but high insulin levels.
Since the standard test for diabetes screening only looks at blood glucose, is if possible to have insulin resistance or high levels of insulin
Many people with score of 99-100 fasting blood glucose or A1-C of 5.2-5.6 will think “i can’t have insulin resistance because my glucose levels are within “normal parameters”
No one really addresses this dichotomy

There seems to be growing data that all the seemingly limitless, vegetable oils, are playing a role in insulin resistance, perhaps even more than carbohydrates. Polyunsaturated oils may indeed be more harmful than we have realized. The food industry will fight tooth and nail to destroy the data.

I know I have insulin resistance only because I self-test and have done so since my last pregnancy. I'm slim, active, and watch my carbs. I have no other risk factors or symptoms. My fasting sugars are fine, but after meals I spike if I eat simple carbs or even whole grains. I wish I knew why. And no, I'm not going on a keto diet, I don't believe that's the solution.
