The cool thing about Gwar is its honestly a collective. The amount of people involved in Gwar goes way past the people playin on stage. RIP Corey and Brockie!
100%
Dave & Cory.. Legends✊
But...(despite disappinting comments you can read everywhere about 'GWAR without member xx & yy will never work.'..
GWAR was never ever a 1 man show.
It's a community.
(Edit: your comment is underrated)
@@1ListerofSmeg that being said, it's clear when brockie passed away. the music before and after David brockie are 1000% different.
@@tox1cAv3ng3r It also changed during his tenure & I'd differ on the percentage but no matter.
It is to be expected, The expression of all interesting art/artists grow, evolve & change over time...
Or stagnate.
I think Brockie contributed most of their writing material and it shows that something has changed between albums and writing.
Sadly, that lead singer passed away around 2014. He was a legend. He is missed, and to be honest, I haven't paid attention to Gwar since he died. But they are absolute Metal Warriors and I love all their albums with him.
Oderus didn't die he went back to his home planet.
As mentioned he just returned home (RIP) but the band live on in his honor, as Oderus would've ordered, with their Blood of the Gods album being something he would've been proud of. El Presidente especially.
Also I just stumbled upon the fact they're streaming on their UA-cam channel in 2 hours from now.
I say you should check it out and the Blood of the God's album.
Remaining members carry the torch admirably.
The original singer Dave “Oderus Urungus”passed away in 2014 and one of their former bassists Mike Bishop fka the original Beefcake the Mighty stepped in as new lead vocalist Blothär the Berserker

@@jasonjtd79dunne88 I had tickets for a show they had to cancel when Flattus left this world. Missing that show was a sad day, but the reason was awful. I was just gearing up to finally get some tickets again when we lost Dave. As sad as that is, I'm very happy that instead of throwing in the towel, they've kept on going.
Their vids are sooooo much more tame than the live show.
Can verify. Saw them back in 1996 when I was 14. Life changing stuff.
seen them 5 times with oderus and it was always a total blast.
@@cklab_official I went to a show at Sweden Rock Festival. Asked a friend that camped next to me if he would like to see them. He totally lost it :) he thought they were incredibly good.
He went: 'Lets get closer, c'mon!'
Me: 'You got lots of extra clothes with you?'
Him: 'Eh..what?'
Me: 'Let's hang back here 10 meters from the stage'
Later...Lots of gory people walking by.
Him: ' Ok..I get it! And it's one of the best show I have ever seen'
Can Confirm
Can very verify saw them in the 90's only Rammstein compares to a live show
Frankly, there are only a few members still in the group that were on their first album. Their new singer was the original bass player. When he had initially left the band, they put a new guy into his costume. The drummer has been in the band since their second album. The guitar player with the jaws (Balsac the Jaws of Death) is an original member. The new singer is an original returned.
They make their own costumes. They have their own comic line written and drawn by them. They have a few movies.
GWAR as a name means nothing. They were initially called Gwwwwaaarrrrrgggghh!!!! They shortened it to GWAR.
Despite their outward presentation and radio-play catalogue, the band is very aware of themselves and their influence on listeners. A lot of their songs make strong social commentaries:
“Destroyed” covers drug abuse; the impact on suicides on others; and how fame affects normal people.
“I Love the Pigs” covers the militarization and deification of police; abuse of power; corruption; police prejudice...but they also provide escapist through sci-fi comic book storytelling. Criminally under rated.
Gwar is the personification of what non-metal people think of when they hear the words "heavy metal"
yes
Gwar was well before Mushroomhead Slipknot and Mudvayne, they started out in the 80s.
GWAR IS LORD
Even before gwar they had the band that turned into gwar
Gear is great. RIP David and Oderus. You should watch oderus’s funeral. They did a full on Viking funeral for him. It’s on UA-cam.
A band that was influenced a lot by Gwar is Green Jelly and their Three Little Pigs video is excellent.
Green Jelly has a huge roster, which include members of Gwar and TOOL. Maynard and Danny being just a couple examples.
Been lobbying for Three Little Pigs since Tool Tuesday started. The Punk Rock puppet show. Bill Manspeaker learned to make the punk rock puppet masks from GWAR
Yeah, man. That's a good choice...Green Jelly - Three Little Pigs! Next on the list!!!!
Only started listening to Gwar a few months ago and they're legit already one of my favorite bands cuz the music and humor.
I know for a fact "Saddam a go-go" (my personal fave) was reacted to by Beavis and Butthead on an episode.
More GWAR. And more Ghost too.
2 bands with own their kayefabe and lore.
RIP Oderus Urungus.
I suggest reacting to "Saddam a go go" or watch them play live. Even if they're just performing in a studio for a channel...they are gold.
Also I know it's not a music video but it'd be awesome to see you both react to GWAR on Jerry Springer. They own everybody and show how funny they are as well as thoughtful...ly silly.
Oderus was the man. Given a Viking death funeral when he died few years ago. Complete with kayefabe lore of his character leaving the planet to return home. He is sorely missed.
But GWAR trucks on with surviving members stepping up to honour him.
Is it the same? Of course not. But I think they're newest album was pretty sweet. "El Presidente" is a GWAR classic Oderus would've loved.
This is the only channel I've ever been able to talk finally about how it's like wrestling kayefabe. An ongoing story or portrayal as well as the music. It's rare but when done right (like GWAR and Ghost) it's rewarding to fans as well as entertaining.
booty2k does everyone forget that Maximus (the guitarist with the sick ass solos) died as well. RIP Maximus!
"they fear us more when we dont lie." i love that line
Please do GWAR- GOR GOR and GWAR- SICK OF YOU
Wtf
War Party or Bring Back the Bomb for relevant madness :)
True
Sick of you slaps
Just saw them live last night, it was nuts! The whole crowd was moshing to almost the entire set
The funny thing is that I first came across GWAR from the movie "Mystery Date" in '91.
After that, I got more and more interested in GWAR. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to see them live. I am sure it would have been Killer.
Thanks Guys
Without a doubt some of the best live shows I've ever seen is Gwar!!!!
RIP Oderus and Maximus!!!
Yessssss! Gwar- Sick of You
One of my favourites!
I gotta admit, I bought a ‘Rich kids on LSD’ album just because I liked the cover art. Man, the 80s was a great time period for music.
GWAR are one of the best entertainers in the business. Behind the masks, visuals and "circus" there is enourmous skill. Not many bands are as dynamic and on point while at the same time having fun.
GWAR utterly rocks a cover of Carry On My Wayward Son. -edit- it's a common idea that GWAR = God What an Aweful Racket, BUT! this is not true, the band maintains that it's not an anacronym for anything.
Saw these guys 7 times before Dave died. Amaaaaazing!
The official website of Slave Pit Inc. indicates that Gwar is a shortened version of "Gwaaarrrgghhlllgh", the name the band used originally when opening up for Death Piggy.
GWAR started out as a band called Death Piggy and they wore cop costumes, they switched to the alien costumes in the late 1980s and did a show and someone yelled out "What's your band called?" At that point, one of the band members tried to answer, but was very drunk and ended up vomiting instead, making a sound like "GWAAAAAAAAAR". From then on, that was the name of the band.
I actually love you to be covering Gwar stuff because one of my things was doing as a slave was treating you.
You were the most nicest people I've met outside of INC people.
💖💕💖
GWAR live….. there’s nothing that compares. GWAR GWAR GWAR
I've seen them live a few times R.I.P. Dave Brockie. Love their song "Immortal Corrupter" and who doesn't love "Fuckin an Animal" lol.
Gwar does this (masks/costumes) for mostly entertainment. These dudes were art majors. Newer members probably not, but these guys are fun.
They were on Jerry Springer twice. Jerry even went to one of their shows and had the footage on the episode.
They did joan rivers too and it was wacky.
RIP Dave aka Oderus and RIP Cory aka Flattus. First band i listened to growing up. Still my favorite band.
David did say they could change members for a hundred years to keep the craziness going. RIP David we miss you
I've been fortunate enough to work to work way to many GWAR SHOWS SINCE THE LATE 80'S. BAND IS FROM (RVA) RICHMOND VA I'M IN VIRGINIA BEACH AND THE BAND WOULD COME THROUGH THE AREA 2, 3 TIMES A YEAR. GOOD STUFF
R.I.P. Oderus Urungus.
The guy talking about seeing Gwar assess reminded me of the last show they played at the original 9:30 Club in Washington DC. When they came out for a third encore they had removed most of their costumes, and by the time they were done Dave (Oderus) was completely naked on stage, and Slyme was just in her g-string.
Gwar was regularly featured on headbangers ball in the 80s. I never bought one of their albums, they were a little too heavy for me... but definitely entertaining 😆😊
I grew up in Richmond Va so I was lucky enough to see them about 30 times and every time was awesome. R.I.P Dave. GWAR is not the same without you.
RIP Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus lead singer passed in 2014
One of my favorite GWAR songs is The Road Behind.
It's funny you mention Devin Townsend in this video, both him and Brockie are Canadian and the song Far Beyond Metal by Strapping Young Lad features Dave Brockie in the part about the "halls of the nekro lord"
Plus the kids show Codename Kids Next Door covered 2 GWAR songs "the private pain of techno destructo" and "meat sandwich"
If you want to see a shocking freaked out concert video watch something from the genitorturers, live.i saw them in Brandon FL in the 90s.it has to be uncut
Most people don’t like there music but I’ll tell you this they put on a hell of a good show
I've been listening to these gods since I was12....im 40 now!!! Ive always been blown away by the fact that they are from the state I've lived in all my life....VA...hail Dave,Cory,GWAR!!!!!!!
The first time I saw GWAR I did a meet and greet with them behind stage before the show, full costume. Was pretty epic. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
Gojira Pray live from Red Rocks
Dave Brockie. R.I.P
Yes, you remember that video game correctly there were three different versions of the game released for the Sega Genesis, GameGear, and SNES, also the only thing the three games shared in common was the plot of finding the GWAR tickets. Fun fact GWAR are Beavis and Butthead's favorite band! hence the game. Also GWAR is not an acronym although some people debate this. The real origin of the name was just them yelling. That was their name. A Scream from the vocalist. They portrayed it a few ways early on in their career such as AAAAAHHHHHHH, WWWWAAAHHHH, and stuff like that until eventually landing on GWAR.
The special you speak of was called "Shockumentary" and it aired on MTv in the mid 90s
Yep that alien dong is called the cuttlefish of cthulu and yes he used it to spray the crowds with stuff.
So yes you are right There WAS episodes and such of beavis and butthead where they love gwar and yes the videogame involved a gwar show BUT also in books and such they say gwar is their favorite band and even have air guitar notes of gwar songs lmao
"Asses everywhere"
Soooo accurate
I love Gwar. I seen them live at the Masquerade with The Genitourturers. Awesome f'n show fam.
That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Are the Genitoturers still together?
@@xXCaptainLouXx420 not that I am aware of. I seen them 3 times. Once with danzig at the Roxy and twice at the Masquerade. The second time there they opened for Lords Of Acid. God I love Jade4U.
Man those sound like some great shows! I miss the Masquerade.
@@xXCaptainLouXx420 they were. I have so many memories at that club. I saw everyone there. I used to know Barbie and The Impotent Sea Snakes so I would be there every weekend, well there or The Chamber.
Man I worked there a little bit, played more shows, amd went to more shows there than anywhere. I saw Nirvana there, and even Rage Against the Machine with Wu-Tang. Faith No More, Misfits (opened for them in 2010) so many memories.
RIP Brockie
I've had the blessed opportunity to see GWAR thirty times, DBX twice, RAWG once. I love GWAR. GWAR is the best.
Hollywood's initial post-song critique was refreshing as hell to hear. Gwar's vocals are crystal clear, and I don't think they get enough credit for that. The singer in this video is Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus, their original singer until his death in 2014. Following his death, bassist Michael Bishop stepped up as the new singer and called himself "Blothar."
They've also been going nonstop and putting Richmond, VA on the metal map since 1988, so there's that. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
that lead singer member part. he is called catfish of cutlet fish. he has mind of his own and some time will attack the crowd or band member with it man juice
rip dave brockie (vocals) and cory smoot (guitar). try "fuck this place" its off their most recent album with their "new" vocalist blothar he was their old bassist and wore the same costume as the current one.
Bro ... you remember em from beavis and butthead and they did the theme song and the 90s animated spider man theme song... their covers of schools out and carry on wayward son are phenomenal and Dave Brockie is THE GREATEST frontman for a metal band ever RIP🤘
Btw the Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne, and Static-X
gwar is one of the most unique and underrated bands of all time. long live david brockie man he was a lyrical genius
Gwar was more punk in the earlier years. (started in the early 80s)
Ghost actually does exactly what you said about switching members. The singer is always the same but any given tour could have just about anyone in the band. In fact, Dave Grohl has played drums for them at least once and nobody would've known that.
And GWAR = God What A Racket.
At least according to some. Other times they said it was short for Gwaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhhhhh!
Gwar is a band that resembles the villains of "power Rangers"
Yeah, GWAR!
R.I.P. to their lead singer and leader
You want exceptional talent without taking themselves serious check out Steel Panther
Steel Panther are great! Once caught myself singing the chorus to one of their songs in a supermarket and had to stop that immediately. "I don't wanna know who's,,,,,,"
saw this live last night. kick ass!
Gotta check out Slaughterama by Gwar. Amazing and hilarious 😆
You don't NEED to, but it helps a lot, when considering GWAR, that they have a horrendously silly and "complicated" back story that goes with their characters. It has to do with Antarctica, Crack, and the fact that Oderous could guarantee there was not life to be found on Mars because GWAR had already killed it all.
That Beavis and Butthead game was epic man! And yes... GWAR is about a good time. Rest in Peace David and Oderus.
Sally jessi Raphael show Had them on for an interview back in the day, it was hysterical
You mean Joan Rivers?
Bounced a few shows for these guys as well. All the fake blood tends to stain a stage. Fun as hell, but hell to clean up after.
My favorite song by them
Gwar - Meat Sandwich!
The thing you were saying about the masks & swappingout who's wearing it is actually a thing in pro wrestling, another reason some of them wore masks is so a prospect can gain experience & develop without their faliures tarnishing who they might become. Some also did it so they could work & still claim welfare as nobody could tell who they really were.
These could all be reasons why some bands wear masks of facepaint, but I think it's mostly theatrics, Dave Brockie started GWAR in art school, so it makes sense that he'd incorporate his art into his music, but he also said he started the band to get him & his friends into clubs for free, more friends one night? Give them a home made mask & say they're in the band, a different friend comes a different night? He can wear the mask, we can jam for 1/2 hour, then hang out, get drunk & watch the other bands without paying the entry fee.
Genius!
i loveeee how GWAR often got reduced to their costumes and outrageous live shows by "mainstream" people.... real fans know how fucking talented musicians they were
RIP ODERUS URUNGUS
I think they liked the "crippled Christ" line alot
Please listen to Puscifer "Conditions of my parole" director's cut PLEASE!
The one thing i look forward to most when i die is getting to see brockie again....fuck meeting god i wanna see dave.
!it for younger kids but, everyone should hear gwar by the time they're 20
Gwar is actually shortened for something like 'Gwarrlllll!!', which is meant to be the sound of someone screaming like they were choking on blood =) And I love Gwar's commitment to their band's story/mythology. When the lead singer died in real life, the rest of the band explained that his character, Oderus Urungus, had his immortality stolen and was impaled on his own sword by the villainous Mr. Perfect (not the 80's wrestler, lol). They're a fun band once you understand that they're supposed to be playing intergalactic monsters and warriors on stage, and their videos and lyrics reflect a sci-fi story. Hopefully you guys react to Immortal Corrupter, Sick of You, Sadam A-Go-Go, and/or The Road Behind =)
GWAR show's the Paradoy of the Human Race.
We want Peace, but crave Violence.
Y'all gotta check out the new GWAR documentary on shudder 🤘🏻 greatest band in the world
Oh man Beavis and Butt-Head it's been a Hot Minute. Love those Riffs!🤘🤘 Despite💁 various explanations that Gwar is an acronym for something (such as "God what an awful racket"), band members have consistently stated that the letters do not stand for anything.
Thanks guys GWAR is awesome 😊🤘🤘
Jayne Says!!! Sh1t guys!! I been beggin for months!!!!!😎😎😎😎😎
Speaking of gwar check out the parody full flow tampon commercial with slymenstra hymen.
Jack the world was the song at the end of the beavis and butthead game..
that beavis and butthead game was awesome and yeah the gwar show was the end of the game.
You should hit up Bring Back the Bomb, or Gor Gor. Shit, watch Have you Seen Me. My buddy directed Have you Seen Me. Do it.
I seen Gwar live on Halloween In Detroit MI, it was an experience I am happy I didn't miss.
Fuck yes FINALLY, more more more GWAAAAR...bring back the bomb, war party next pls
You should watch the movies especially Phallus In Wonderland
He is Balzac the Jaws of death.
Oderus was the INtergalactic Space Correspondent on Fox Red Eye for a long time man. Check some of those old videos out. He wasn't just talent in the music world... he was funny as all hell!
that was freakin wild
Yesss! The beavis and butthead game!!! But I'm prettt sure it was Sega genesis. Could be wrong though
Gwar were so awesome live. Another great band similar to them is Lordi.
7:09 that explains everything
just saw gwar with nekrogoblikon and crobot... forgeddaboutit you've gotta see that band live! so sick
RIP to Oderus Urungus aka Dave Brockie. Super cool dude a little crazy but thats what made him awesome. Lol. Gwar isn't the same without his vocals
