I was amazed, I had no idea. And by the way, he for sure _is_ one of the nicest people you could meet.
Where did Dr Demento come from? In the late 80s or early 90s my sister was given cassette tapes full of his stuff, but I never knew if he had an ongoing radio show or what it was. Well 1 scandal and 1 controversy. The scandal was Coolio and the Amish/Gangsta Paradise fiasco which wasn't even Al's fault because some idiot at Coolio's label LIED to Al about permission. Thankfully Coolio eventually let it go and said Amish Paradise wasn't bad. The controversy was Prince and his mad hate boner for Al. Prince for unknown reason said no to Al on anything without giving a reason why. During an award show Prince's people told Al, "You don't even look at Prince!"
@@chadharger9323 True, but I wouldn't even attribute those to Al himself, given Prince just had an overinflated sense of self importance. No doubt massively talented, but took himself FAR too seriously IMO. And the Coolio thing was just that, like you said: someone else had told Al he was good to do Amish Paradise and Coolio initially wasn't happy about it. It was good to see that he ultimately came around though. I probably should've worded in my initial comment that no scandals or controversies were specifically of AL's doing himself.
Great story about Eat it: Weird Al asked MJ if he could parody Beat It. Not only did MJ say yes, but he gave Weird Al full access to the dancers in the video, the set, and no doubt guidance in doing the video. Great story.
It's also amazing that he's been with his original band this whole 40+ year career. No departures or deaths since they began is a rarity in the music industry.
1994 Al had a show scheduled for LA, I was in college and recently single. I had been recently talking to a pretty girl from school, and decided to invite her to go to the show with me, our first date. 30 years, and 3 kids later, we're still going strong. Weird Al, the love maker
Mine story too. I took my girlfriend and Al sat on her lap and sang to her and now, 46 years later, we are still together and both love Weird Al as do our children.
That bit at the end where Tommy James says "that's how you know when you've really made it" when Weird Al parodies your song. I swear hearing either Kurt Cobain or Dave Grohl said the same thing about the "Smells Like Nirvana" parody. What a complement! Weirdo Al is absolutely an institution. May he continue to make us laugh for years to come!
Grohl said they were backstage at SNL when Al called for permission. He said Kurt immediately accepted and laughed long. All genres of Musicians love this man.
@@miketeeveedub5779 yeah. Weird al himself mentioned nirvana knew they had made it when al spoofed their song. It was in the old vh1 behind the music on weird al.
The story goes that when Al spoke to Kurt Cobain about doing a parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Cobain said, "It's not going to be about food, is it?" Al replied, "No, it's going to be about how no one can understand the lyrics to your songs." "Well, alright," Cobain said. And the rest is history.
I met Al at the 2006 San Diego ComicCon. He was making his way through the crowd to talk to the Futurama/Animaniacs voice actors after a panel and I quickly asked if I could get a photo with him. He said "Sure!" and couldn't have been nicer. It's a pic I treasure to this day.
Weird Al should have a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame just for out lasting many of the artist he parodied, but also for having an Awesome career.
“My Bologna” was the first Weird Al song I remember hearing. 👏👏👏 PROFESSOR, you are so right about Weird Al being a nice guy. I realized that when he was being interviewed and was asked if there was an artist whose songs he wanted to parody but hasn’t. Al said he had written parodies of Prince’s songs. However, Prince did not want his songs to be parodied, and although Weird Al did not need legal permission to record and release any parodies, he did not go against anyone’s wishes. That showed that he is a great person!!
Hell yeah to that. Point one is that it's quite clever, point 2 that is can teach you, point 3 that it's not about FOOD, and also, Blurred Lines had a damn good beat, and it's nice to be able to enjoy a song that uses it without feeling shitty for liking it.
His video spoof of Dylan -- 'BOB' -- with its lyrics comprised entirely of palindromes, is a transcendent work of genius, taking the pop hit parody to an entirely new level of brilliance.
I've always thought the same thing about that song. I had that eureka moment while reading the lyrics in the CD jacket trying to make sense of what he was saying. Then I noticed the pattern. My mind exploded. With it being a Bob Dylan pastiche and how "Bob" is a palindrome. And how his song may not make sense to some people.🤯
Well now artists have the pleasure of bidding for the right to play. So maybe he doesn't have as much money to claim the halftime. Gone are the days of volunteering for free and being accepted.
I've seen a lot of Weird Al interviews. Most of them ask the same basic questions you've heard dozens of times and really don't know anything else and just treat it like a joke. It is so great to see him interviewed by someone who is very familiar with his work and is a literal fan. Thanks Professor, I truly enjoyed this interview.
Totally true! Rueben is the newbie in the band, and he's been with Al for over 30 years now. Great to see that now when there are so many legacy bands out there with only one original member.
Myself and my girlfriend were at the Self-Indulgent etc. show at the Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta; due to bad knees she uses a mobility chair to get to events like concerts which meant we ended up entering through a strange back entrance to get to the floor, but anyways. The handicapped seating for this show were on the left and right ends of the first two rows so we get into place on the left side second row, and a guy comes down to her and asks her if everything was good, could she see the stage okay, and chatted with her for a minute, and I realized as he's walking away that he was Jon 'Bermuda' Schwartz. 100% the same complete class act as Al himself.
Talked with Jay on several occasions as we lived close to each other, great guy, super talented. All of them are world class musicians. The band rocks so hard, had the pleasure to hear them just jamming out playing their own stuff having fun, and wow.
I’ve seen McCartney, Slipknot, Jethro Tull, Roger Waters, Tool, etc…none of their live shows come CLOSE to a Weird Al show. I’ve seen him many times with and without my children…and the memories will last for eternity. He’s amazing in every way.
Couple years ago saw Al (acoustic), and the Stadium Tour of Joan Jett, Poison, Def Leppard, and Motley Crüe, and quite honestly Al put on a better show than those huge acts on an enormous stage.
I woke up this morning ... dragged my ass into the bathroom, then into the kitchen to get my coffee going. Then here to my computer - turned it on and brought up UA-cam and here it was. Your interview with Weird Al. And SUDDENLY, I was fully awake! LOL. This is completely awesome. :)
By far, my favorite Weird Al song is "One More Minute". That one's not a parody that I know of, but it just so perfectly encapsulates the anger portion of the grief over lost love process (with some wonderfully visual references) that it's just so perfect. It's a great one to karaoke if wherever you're karaoke-ing has it in the catalog. Virtually no one -regardless of generation- is going to know the song and it gets ... responses ... When it comes to more mainstream stuff, I find it gets better when the original artists, producers, record labels, or even history itself consider the songs to be "important" or "real" or "hard". Like Weird Al's "Smells Like Nirvana" or "Amish Paradise" or "White and Nerdy."
♫ I'd rather rip my heart right out of my rib cage with my bare hands and then throw it on the floor and stomp on it til I die (*gasp) than spend on more minute with you. ♫ Iconic.
Weird Al is a nice guy! In the very early 80s, I was waiting tables in San Francisco at a, then, trendy restaurant in South of Market called The Billboard Cafe. Unbeknownst to me, one of my customers was Weird Al. I was a music girlie, and I knew all the punk and pop bands. He was very kind and left a generous tip. I only realized later that I had waited on Al. I still cherish this memory. Thank you for treating me, and everyone, so kindly! I still remember this 40 years after the fact! Hi again all these years later!
Al needs to be, deserves to be, in the Rock Hall of Fame. Like Tommy said at the end of this video, many artists knew they had made it if Al parodied them. It was a mark of success. Also, let’s be honest, Al and his hits have outlasted many of the artist’s they were based on.
I've always thought that Weird Al should've parodied Nookie by Limp Bizkit from the perspective of Han Solo - "I did it all for the wookie, the wookie" 😄
I remember being in fifth grade on field trips, riding in the back of my friend's car, and his mom let us listen to whatever music we wanted. He had cassette tapes of Dr. Demento and Weird Al, and we'd laugh and sing along. Great memories, and I'm so glad Al is still on top of this weird world.
My favorite Weird Al time period was when Dr Demento played "Yoda" and it ended up on the top 5 list for weeks and weeks... then Weird Al finally got the go-ahead to put the song on his album and it was back on the top 5 for weeks and weeks again. Thanks!
Had the pleasure of meeting Al and his family leaving a pizza place about a month ago. Not only were they awesome and gracious, my kids were so excited as I had introduced them to his music pretty early on. We became the envy of our friends and family that found out about our meeting and the icing on the cake was the name of the pizza place itself…Pizza My Heart ❤️ The man even eats in puns 😁 He was very shy and had an “aw shucks” kinda way about him. The Yankovics are kind, sweet people and they gave my kids a wonderful first celebrity meeting!
I hope you got to ask Weird Al about the Prince parody that never was. He wrote a parody for Prince’s “1999” about a guy buying/selling stuff for $19.99. I’ve heard people say Prince had a sense of humor, so I’m disappointed that he didn’t approve the song. He was asked after Prince’s death if he’d ask the estate to approve the song. Al said that Prince already said “no,” so he wants to respect his wishes💜
I believe Al wanted to parody several of Prince's songs, but he always said no? Hmm, might be a different musical artist, but someone who also was a master at their craft.
Whoa, when you bring up "I think I'm a clone now" it gave me flashbacks to an Evangelion amv with that song that I forgot about, but I used to watch it all the time when I was like 11 or 12. This is a crazy good interview man! Very good questions, and the context cutaways are amazing!
I'm 53 and I have a 16 year old son. The only 2 albums he and I share in common between our musical libraries are "Dare to be Stupid" and "Straight Outta Linwood". You're not kidding, Weird Al will live on for many generations ✌
I went to a weird al show back in 2016 in bowling green Ky. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen and got to meet him in person after the show. You’re right one of the nicest people I’ve ever meet. Thanks for the drop on the new tour next summer. Will be checking that out for sure. My first song I heard from him was my bologna. Been a fan ever since
Wow, Adam! The two of you sat there like old friends chatting about the past. Al is truly such a nice guy, friendly and not standoffish or egotistical at all. This is such a fun interview to watch!
He has to get their permission, otherwise they can sue him. There have been some artists that have turned him down, I believe Prince was one of them. Al is a very stand-up guy though, total respect.
@@paullee9397IIRC, Prince is the one artist who Al is a little disappointed wouldn’t let him parody some of his songs, though he did respect the decision.
@@NintendoSunnyDee He would still need permission to use the music. Copyright is complicated, but if you want to see any royalties from the record, you are better off checking first than getting sued later. Ask "The Verve" for Bittersweet Symphony, or Diddy for "Every breath you take" sample on his song..Diddy pays 2 grand a day for that.
Weird Al Yankovic genuinely surprised me when I saw him perform live with an orchestra on his tour within these recent few years. Without question, that is one of the top 5 concerts I've ever attended and ever will. It had variety in almost every facet possible for entertainment. He is one of a kind.
“Word Crimes” and “Tacky” are absolute genius. As is the rest of his library. Met Al a few times over the years. No big interviews or anything, but the words we did exchange led me to believe that this man isnt just a genius of music ,but a genuine, pleasant, respectful human being that really appreciates his fans.
I was at Cal Poly SLO when Al was, and I had a weekly show on Cal Poly Radio KCPR 77-79. We already knew Weird Al was talented and awesome. It's sure been fun to watch his timeless success! 👍
THIS is better than a new Weird Al record, better than his last movie. This IS what I been waiting for. My parents made the gutsy call to buy us Weird Al albums as kids. It was certainly the right one, this dude hilarious.
I've had the privilege of seeing "Weird Al" live several times throughout the years. I live in a minor metropolitan area so he doesn't cone here often, but when he does, I make sure to see him. He's one of my favorite performers. Not just in terms of comedy, but in general. He's an amazing talent with one of the most versatile bands currently performing. They really don't get enough credit. Thank you so much for this interview. It's not one I ever expected, but that makes it even more special.
Al is the kind of interviewee you could sit down and chat with FOR DAYS, and STILL not get quite enough stories, anecdotes, etc out of. Brilliant stuff. Looking forward to part two.
Weird Al is such an amazing talent. He deserves to be mentioned with all the top talent in music. I'm so excited to see this video. Thanks for making this happen!! Excited to see Part 2.
@@ProfessorofRock it needs to come out like yesterday, that 25 minutes flew by, I was thinking to myself, how the hell is he going to cover almost 40 years of music in 25 minutes. I could take 25 minutes just talking about his early 80's stuff. My grandparents had a house in Morro Bay California (it's a small beach town on the central coast), which is about a 20 minute drive to Cal Poly. When I heard he lived near there during college, I was so stocked that I "lived" that close to one of my favorite artists ever.
I remember a few years back my friends and I were trying to get "Wierd Al should play the SuperBowl" trending. That would be the best SuperBowl Half Time show EVER!!!
I'm not a fan of Football, but if I ever hear he WILL be the 1/2 time entertainment, I will surely be watching it! At least you know he won't be having any dirty wardrobe malfunctions!
I have kept my streak going since the very first Super Bowl: I have not seen any part (not one FRAME!) of ANY Super Bowl game. But I would gladly break that streak if Al did the half time show!
Al has said in year's past that he wouldn't turn it down, but the decision is not up to him. He also said if he did agree, he'd have explosive diarrhea for about 5 months leading up to the day and the whole show could go totally right or wrong, depending on the audience.
My wife said she's mad at me because everyone Gansta's Paradise comes on the radio all she can hear is Amish Paradise and starts singing that instead of the original. I'm so happy that Coolio and Al were able to mend fences before his passing.
My kids gave my wife and I front-row tickets to the Weird Al show for our 30th wedding anniversary. They know us too well!! (And our signed poster has a prominent spot in the house!) I've been a fan since way back in the Dr Demento days.
One evening in the late summer of '89 on my way home from the Hamburg office on the Autobahn towards the suburb I had my appartment the radio started Weird Al's "The Hot Rocks Polka" from the just-released "UHF" soundtrack. I had to roll onto the emergency lane and stop with the hazards flashing. I laughed so hard it took me *minutes* to regain proper eyesight. The next days lunchtime I walked over to the cities record stores to get the CD from it - and managed to. After these many years the magic on the song still works !! Thanks Al - and thanks for showing the first part of the interview.
I played some Weird Al songs for a group of kids at a private junior high school in Japan. They knew enough English to be able for follow along once I explained some vocabulary to them. The smiles on those kids faces when they heard “Fat” is something I’ll never forget.
I was able to see Al and Dr. Demento in a small club back in the 80's when he was all over MTV. What impressed me was how good his band was. A few years ago I took my sons to see an outdoor show in front of 1500 plus fans. And his band still rocks.
I can’t wait for part 2!!! I dunno if I’m ridiculous or not for hoping for this… but I hope y’all talk about Hamilton Polka. It’s my favorite. It honestly should be more legendary than it is given all the iconic sound gags & the pure mad skill Al put into it. Weird Al is an absolute legend and so humble. Honestly, he’s my kinda weird and I think his friends and family must be some of the luckiest folks ever.
Great fun interview! Looking forward to the next part. Amazing to look back on all his work through the years. Heard him originally on Dr. Demento on late night AM radio as a kid. Always a fan!
Weird Al's concert at the Washington Park Zoo (Portland) was so memorable! He began hidden (maybe in the train tunnel) but blasting out his parodies! He appeared from a cloud of smoke, just like a legend! In the pre-show we had huge birds flying over the audience. The bird handlers cautioned that everyone with "prey-sized" children should hold them closely! And they did! No little kids running around at the zoo!
"Weird al" was one of my first "concerts" at an amusement park called valleyfair, July 1984. My friends were fans from the first album because we all listened to Dr. Demento...seeing him live was great. Of course I've kept up with his career ever since, and he does such a great job elevating the current crop of mediocre recording artists and actually making them better than they really are...now THAT'S talent. Hopefully the rock and roll hall of fame does the right thing and induct him in the next year or two.
His Michael Jackson's parody was when I first heard of Weird Al. Loved his parodies from the 80's (I was a teenager then) But I think his best parody is "White and Nerdy" which still cracks me up.
Awesome that you were able to do this. When you said you were going to interview Weird Al, in the back of my mind I was thinking about the spoof interviews he does with some of the musical stars like Madonna, Eminem and Cher. 😂
@@ProfessorofRock You missed the opportunity to do one, and have a Cease and Desist letter at the end of it, which could have announced the premiere of this interview.
Thank you for talking about some of Al's lesser-known songs and asking interesting questions about the more well-known ones, I've seen a ton of interviews with him and he always gets asked about the same songs in all the same ways
KIQQ... Weird Al, you took me back in time! Known as "10-Q" and then "Pirate Radio," it was 100.3 on the dial in LA and they would (thankfully) play off-mainstream tunes. They were the lone station to play Journey's "Only Solutions" and it became quite popular locally...
This is so awesome! Glad you were finally able to interview Weird Al! I have been a fan of his since the early 80's, I own every album/ CD he has put out. Musical genius!
I heard Weird Al from the very beginning of his career, before he became famous. We used to listen to the Doctor Demento show on radio back in the 70's and heard Al and only his accordion, along with other gems like Fish Heads, There's Coming to Take Me Away, and Pencilneck Geek. Great memories.
"Midnight Star" is one of the BEST Al tunes, ever! His original work is his best. I got to see a show where (aside from the medley, of course) they did ONLY originals. It was AWESOME!

Amen!
Grohl said they were backstage at SNL when Al called for permission. He said Kurt immediately accepted and laughed long. All genres of Musicians love this man.
He sure is.
@@miketeeveedub5779 yeah. Weird al himself mentioned nirvana knew they had made it when al spoofed their song. It was in the old vh1 behind the music on weird al.
The story goes that when Al spoke to Kurt Cobain about doing a parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Cobain said, "It's not going to be about food, is it?"
Al replied, "No, it's going to be about how no one can understand the lyrics to your songs."
"Well, alright," Cobain said. And the rest is history.
I've loved Weird Al's music since the first time I heard "Another One Rides the Bus" in 1981. My kids all love it, too!
PROFESSOR, you are so right about Weird Al being a nice guy.
I still think "Word Crimes" is the most brilliant musical parody ever written.
Agreed! Brilliant parody!
The "I could care less, that means you do care." Line is one I've used an innumerable amount of times
Especially cuz the original is just so cringe
Hell yeah to that. Point one is that it's quite clever, point 2 that is can teach you, point 3 that it's not about FOOD, and also, Blurred Lines had a damn good beat, and it's nice to be able to enjoy a song that uses it without feeling shitty for liking it.
FACT!
And how his song may not make sense to some people.🤯
I love the fact that all the lyrics in BOB are palindromes.
"Bob" is genius. And it works both as an homage and a gentle ribbing that any goofy lyrics delivered the way Dylan does will sound profound.
Al was just born to bring people joy. Besides his music, if you haven't seen UHF yet, you really should.
Love that movie.
So do I. I think it was my Weird Al introduction.
That's my daughters favorite movie
Yep, saw it at the drive-in when it first came out. Now I have it on DVD. Love it!
Whenever I need a laugh, I think about the fire hose scene. I don't even have to watch it.
Weird Al for the Superbowl!!! Imagine the cameos you could have
Well now artists have the pleasure of bidding for the right to play. So maybe he doesn't have as much money to claim the halftime. Gone are the days of volunteering for free and being accepted.
He’d be doing more costume changes than Gaga or Beyoncé
He doesnt do dark rituals (i hope) so they wouldnt want him
I've seen a lot of Weird Al interviews. Most of them ask the same basic questions you've heard dozens of times and really don't know anything else and just treat it like a joke. It is so great to see him interviewed by someone who is very familiar with his work and is a literal fan. Thanks Professor, I truly enjoyed this interview.
I’ve never heard a negative word spoken about Weird Al. This is such a great interview!
Let's be honest, there's a little bit of Weird Al in all of us! You've got to be lying if you haven't parodied a song before...
I used to parody pretty much every hit song that came on the radio, especially at work.
No joke!
In junior high in the 80s, I actually wrote out my own lyrics about murder at the circus, 99 Dead Buffoons. (99 Red Ballons.)
I'm still a dork, lol.
So true
@@BillGraper My wife gets mad at me when I start to parody a song she likes....
I asked my kids if they knew about Weird Al and my 10yr old goes "Yeah!! Weird Al!! Hes cool." 😂😂 Agreed.

Thanks for this “Weird Al” interview. I especially in enjoyed “I lost on Jeopardy” song and video.
Have a great day!
You can tell Weird Al is a great guy because his band/support staff has been with him forever. Jon ‘Bermuda’ Schwartz, perfect example.
Totally true! Rueben is the newbie in the band, and he's been with Al for over 30 years now. Great to see that now when there are so many legacy bands out there with only one original member.
Spot on. When he's finally inducted into the Hall of Fame his band should be inducted too.
@@censorshipsucks9493 When Al got his star on the walk of fame in Hollywood, all the band members were there.
I want to attend his concert so bad.
Just like bands have personality, so do their fans, and Weird Al fans are like no others.
Couple years ago saw Al (acoustic), and the Stadium Tour of Joan Jett, Poison, Def Leppard, and Motley Crüe, and quite honestly Al put on a better show than those huge acts on an enormous stage.
I always wanted him to do a Metalica Parody called "Pastor of Muppets" but I guess that will never materialize.
That. Is. BRILLIANT!! 😮
I guess he could go "Obey your MAZDA! MAZDA!!"
I would

Steve, give me an idea what a couple lines might sound like. Too bad that Lars and James are such huge humorless dbags 😢😮😮
AWESOME!
I am so so happy.
"Weird Al" is a bonafide legend-Hope he gets inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
For sure!
Screw that. That institution is a bad, irrelevant joke.
I say The Superbowl Halftime show instead!!
He deserves a spot at the Halftime show too!
@@TheVictorCruz I've been screaming at the top of the hills for this for years.
Iconic.
I sang it to female coworkers. It was many months later that I realized the meaning of "I have to use the self-service pumps"
Let's not forget Don MacLean will catch himself singing the lyrics to The Saga Begins instead of American Pie.
Right!
Haha!
That's hilarious and relatable. I haven't sung the actual lyrics to Lump in years. lol
Oh golly, I love that song. I watched the video last night.
Some day I'm gonna be a jedi
Weird Al is a nice guy!
In the very early 80s, I was waiting tables in San Francisco at a, then, trendy restaurant in South of Market called The Billboard Cafe. Unbeknownst to me, one of my customers was Weird Al.
I was a music girlie, and I knew all the punk and pop bands. He was very kind and left a generous tip. I only realized later that I had waited on Al.
I still cherish this memory. Thank you for treating me, and everyone, so kindly!
I still remember this 40 years after the fact!
Hi again all these years later!
This interview has got to be your best yet. Wonderful learning some of Weird Al's history of his success! ❤
Al needs to be, deserves to be, in the Rock Hall of Fame. Like Tommy said at the end of this video, many artists knew they had made it if Al parodied them. It was a mark of success. Also, let’s be honest, Al and his hits have outlasted many of the artist’s they were based on.
I stumbled across Weird Al's "Living with a Hernia
Having survived a hernia transplant myself, how on the mark it was. I feel bad!
Only problem is laughing too soon after the surgery
Al truly is an American Treasure. Thanks for sharing the interview!
Just imagine how different the musical world would be if Al had stuck with architecture. But also imagine what buildings he could have built.
Dr. Seuss style no doubt
"That's very nice, Mr. Yankovic, but why does my building look like an accordian?"
Why are they all black and white?
Thank you for allowing me to contemplate that. Fascinating and true 👍
It would be exactly the same.
4 Grammy's in 4 decades. He may not be the only one with that record, but there aren't many! I consider him my spirit animal.
My favorite Weird Al time period was when Dr Demento played "Yoda" and it ended up on the top 5 list for weeks and weeks... then Weird Al finally got the go-ahead to put the song on his album and it was back on the top 5 for weeks and weeks again. Thanks!
I must say, he has aged tremendously well. He looks barely a day older than he did when he was hugely popular.
The Professor sits down with music’s class clown! Congrats on interviewing Weird Al 🤜
Thanks Austin!
I’m so glad Al survived Madonna’s assassination attempt and was able to sit for this interview

As a great man once said " He who is tired of Weird Al, is tired of life."
I believe Homer said that.
You're so lucky! I've loved him since I was in 6th grade. In my 50s now😮
@@sjdenning1 I was about 6 or 7 when Eat It dropped so I know exactly how you feel.
I never thought prince had a sense of humour or just when it suited him
He seemed like he took himself a bit too seriously
I believe Al wanted to parody several of Prince's songs, but he always said no? Hmm, might be a different musical artist, but someone who also was a master at their craft.
And that’s the difference between genius & greatness.
“This Song is Just Six Words Long” is my favorite 🎶
It is really the perfect parody. I laughed myself sick when I first heard it.
He nailed it over and over and over and over and over and over again
I went to a weird al show back in 2016 in bowling green Ky. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen and got to meet him in person after the show. You’re right one of the nicest people I’ve ever meet. Thanks for the drop on the new tour next summer. Will be checking that out for sure. My first song I heard from him was my bologna. Been a fan ever since
Wow, Adam! The two of you sat there like old friends chatting about the past. Al is truly such a nice guy, friendly and not standoffish or egotistical at all.
This is such a fun interview to watch!
As an 80’s kid Weird Al was a Staple for us! I played his tape over and over again!!!
Yep, and some of those songs that weren't hits are so nostalgic for me now- like "Mr. Frump & The Iron Lung" and "One More Minute." 😁

The fact that he still to this day gets permission from artists to parody their songs is stellar. Respect.
@@paullee9397He actually doesn't. Parody works are protected under fair use laws.

The band he travels with who can duplicate every style and switch between songs absolutely amazes me.

Al has said in year's past that he wouldn't turn it down, but the decision is not up to him. He also said if he did agree, he'd have explosive diarrhea for about 5 months leading up to the day and the whole show could go totally right or wrong, depending on the audience.

One does not simply skip any part of any video on the subject of the unquestionable awesomeness of Alfred Matthew Yankovic.
Awesome!
Yes, his band doesn't get enough credit. They are fantastic! As singers and instrumentalists both. The whole lot of them are musical geniuses.

That was my kids’ first concert (2015)! I almost got sung to during Wanna B Ur Lovr but my husband was sitting at the end of the row.

So happy to have this.😁

His Michael Jackson's parody was when I first heard of Weird Al. Loved his parodies from the 80's (I was a teenager then) But I think his best parody is "White and Nerdy" which still cracks me up.
