The 300 SE has its place and is a fine laptop. One correction to the review, the body and lid of the 300 SE are all metal (aluminum) - only the face around the screen is plastic (so the same as the G14, though the G14 uses magnesium). I think UA-cam reviewers, being content creators themselves that work with a lot of video editing, exaggerate the importance of multicore performance. If you're a working gamer on the go that also consumes media (watches vides, surfs the net) and want a laptop that looks pretty much right at home in the office, the 300 SE is every bit as good as G14, and in my opinion looks better. I tested both side by side for days, and the 300 SE has better build quality, and feels more solid, especially the trackpad which is loose on my G14. They have exactly the same monitor (the LQ140M1JW49) but for some reason in my two laptops, the 300 SE screen was clearly, though just marginally, sharper and brighter. The 300 SE runs quieter and cooler for regular every day use, but the G14 runs quieter and cooler during gaming (at least the chipset does, the body gets hotter than the 300 SE.) The G14 typically saw a few FPS higher than the 300 SE, but differences were small. For example, on the Assassin's Creed Odyssey benchmark, 1080p, High settings, the G14 did 60 FPS average and 17 FPS lows, and the 300 SE did 59 FPS avg and 30 FPS lows. Finally, the G14's speakers are far better than those on the 300 SE. In the end, unless you are video editing or running other multicore demanding software, it is a toss up.

I would like to say, the 2022 version of the predator triton 300 se is now a tetradeca core (i7 12700H) and is still 1500$ 1:03 but the best part is that this specific model is still being sold for less than 900$, I would say that’s a great price for last year’s model. Also the body is almost all aluminum, not plastic. I hoped this helped!
No, the brightness keys are actually supposed to be that way. It helps to think of them as "Open" and "Close" instead of brightness up and down. I have an Acer Aspire 5 and it confused me for a while, too. Don't ask me why they did it that way. For some reason, though, the notation is switched on your keyboard with the brightness "Open" key being on the left instead of the right. My guess is it confused the keyboard producers as much as it did you.
Great overview. I like your soothing voice, no drama and sincere in your review. Thank you, Ravi Peiris M.D. (In answer to your question: Yes, please review the Triton 500 as well)
When acer first announced this laptop in January, I was so hyped for it. I thought it was a G14 with a webcam. I was targeting it as my college laptop but then I noticed it was taking too long to hit store shelves. So I started considering getting the G14, then I realized that the G14 has twice the cores. My decision was made easier after then.
G14 is quite abit more expensive compared to variants of Triton 300 i look at, and has that moder stupid tiny arrows, with 99% of laptops its either these tiny arrows or stupi compacted up and down arrow. Acer done it the way everyone should. Tho i would like a Ryzen in that, or for Acer Swift X to have that same keyboard.
I may not like these quad core power boosted Tigerlake U CPUs but I love the fact that Acer allows the CPU to run with unlimited power indefinitely and max out the tjunction. Its in intel spec so it should be safe. No reason to encourage manufacturers to force run their CPUs at lower temps and get lower performance...
I was so down to buy a tuf dash with that massive battery life until I came across the 4 cores. If it was 6 I wouldn't mind as much but 8 threads is very mediocre in 2021
I think that some of the parts you did not like are there to segment it lower than Triton 500 SE. Triton 500 SE look so great and I am looking forward to seeing reviews of it, even though I do not need a new laptop right now.
First time when I saw this, I said to myself 'Finally, a gaming laptop that does not look a gaming laptop at all. Good job, Acer'. BUT after watching this video, this is not a good buy at all. High CPU temps, low CPU performance (Intel's 11th Gen is still not on par with Ryzen's), low GPU TDP, and for USD1,500? Clearly, uninformed buyers who will get this will have buyer's remorse later. Sorry Acer, try harder next time.
I returned Trition 500 5days ago. Best looking laptop tbh. Cpu temperature went up 102°... I bought HP Omen with Ryzen 7and rtx3070 instead... I will get it on monday... Do i have to deactivate the cpu boost too, to get Low Temperatures?
I have the 2021 G14. The predator laptop has a thunderbolt 4 port, an integrated webcam and HDMI 2.1 over the G14. The G14 is better built imo, is way faster in terms of CPU performance, has a more tactile keyboard, better speakers, has better battery life and double the storage for the same price config.
@@Luckysury333 I bought mine in India (despite the way higher price) since I wanted the gray version of the G14 and my XPS was getting old. Cost me ~1900 usd for R7 5800HS, RTX 3060, FHD 144Hz, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and the AniMe matrix lid. Asus India did include a laptop sleeve and their 1080p 60fps webcam in the box to dampen the blow
Why is it that very few people mentioned the recent Razer Blade 14? Also, why is the review comparing the 14 inch 300SE with 15 inch laptops all the time?
Brighter yes, but I prefer 16:9 when gaming. It just looks more correct to me since it's what I've been using for like 2 decades. 16:10 makes every 3rd person game feel like an MMO to me for some reason.
I dont know why 4 cores receive hate. In terms of benchmarks, It performs similarly to a 10750 h with 6 cores. As long as a processor has a similar multi threaded result it will perform similarly in real world usage. Also since is has 4 cores it ll perform way better in single threaded workloads. It isnt perfect but it isnt as bad as the reviewers say it is.
I actually bought a laptop recently with an Intel tiger lake H35 CPU (i5-11300H). This laptop (Mechrevo S3 Pro) has no dedicated graphics card but makes use of it's build in Intel Xe GPU. In this configuration, or with a GeForce MX450 GPU, this line of CPU makes more sense, if priced under a 1000 USD. Good review!
I can't seem to change the color of the keyboard when wanting to use static color. Oddly enough I can change the color for animation effects. The keyboard has a weird layout. Appart from what you mentioned, the volume increase button is beneath the volume decrease button and the 'end' and 'home' keys are strangely positioned and require the 'fn' key to be pressed. The Turbo button makes no sense at all since the turbo mode is way to loud. It would've been nice to use the button to toggle between the four different modes. This laptop also should remember the the cooling/performance mode after you put it in sleep mode and/or shutdown but it doesn't since it always reverses back to 'normal mode'. Normal mode is to loud for me because you can hear the laptop under light operation like office work. The Silent mode is ok but toggling back everytime is a nuisance. When getting it out of sleep mode, sometimes the fans blow so hard that I get startled by it, even when the laptop itself is cool at that moment. I also find it weird that it doesn't have an integrated fingerprint scanner. Nice to know is that this aluminium enclosure does not feel like there's static running through when you put your hands on it, unlike most other models when using the power cord. The screen is also pretty decent. It was mentioned the screen doesn't get very bright but that didn't bother me. I like it that the screen can be set to pretty dim, which is not possible on every laptop.
This seems like a nice but limited laptop. I really enjoyed upgrading my Predator Helios 300. (Only one stick of RAM? Max 24 MB??? Only one M2 Drive???) What was Acer thinking??
Just curious, have you replace Ram memory sticks as recommended by Jarrod's channel? you can actually boost FPS of Strix G15 amd edition with significant rate. It actually performed much better than RTX 3080 in some cases.
I don't think so since 4 core already bottleneck rtx 3000 series gpu come on even at low setting but still native resolution game I play still demand cpu power
Great review. Being in the market for a laptop myself, there are few things that make me not consider getting a laptop. It sporting a deprecated 16:9 standard for laptops is one of them.
About the power button, you aren't being too picky. Power buttons should have never been integrated into the keyboards. You can thank apple for this stupid trend. Also, fingerprint sensor on power button should be a default.
you said because of it's middle placement it will cause troubles with a wireless mouse, why is that? does the middle placement cause interference? and if so why?
yes. however, only for the amount of RAM that is present on-board and on-stick. I know that sounds weird, so here's the details: If you have 8GB on the board, and 8GB on a stick, it's dual channel, all the time. If you have 8GB on board, and 4GB on a stick, the first 8 GB (4+4) are dual-channel, the last 4GB are single. If you have 8GB on board, and a 16GB stick, the first 16GB (8+8) are dual-channel, and the final 8GB are single
Asus zephyrus g14 beats this in many ways. Octocore, decent keyboard, bright panel (though falls behind like 2% in adobe RGB), less bloatware, aluminum-magnesium chassis, more customizability in fan control, GPU speeds, and CPU wattage. I guess what they have in common is heat. This thing can get hot, and if you don't want it hot, you can have it really loud. Also, there's a driver issue with VR, I had to manually set my VR games to run on the dedicated GPU and 'virtual desktop' doesn't work. Not that much of a bummer tho lol. Also, in general productivity or web browzing, I can get more than 6 hrs of use. I say that because I keep the battery capped at 80%, and use it for 5-6 hrs and I still end up with like 30-40% left. In gaming, if you lower your settings down to low and have the silent profile, you can reach like 2 hrs of gameplay or more (Played games like csgo and terraria)
Zephyrus G14 2021 costs $1450 to $1500 with similar spec but Ryzen 9 5900HS. Do you think Trident 300 SE is an alternative against that monser of a 14 inch Power house? I don't think so.
Thank you so much for giving the dimensions of the computer, because i could not find a website that would give them, they would only give the screen size. I really needed to know because, im trying to find the right size bag and maybe a cooling fan if I need one.
Love your honest review, but I think in terms of form factor its closest competitor is ASUS G14 which is only $150 more for its Ryzen 9, that sounds like the obvious choice to me.
Acer should go for 2x 60whr (120whr )battery option , storage 3x M.2 or 2x M.2 + HDD option . i dont know why thickness is the matter ? i prefer low noise during gaming , its time using 100mm fan run in low speed , bigger heatsink . below should expose the heatsink instead of cover by plastic .
OMG, My Acer Swift 7 had that same issue with the reversed brightness buttons. I thought I was crazy at first. You get used to it eventually, but you shouldn't have to lol.
Hello, I'm having same problem with energy consumption of GPU. I updated all BIOS/Firmware drivers as you said, but I'm still having avg 60W in turbo and extreme mode. What also could be reason of problem?
For the same size/weight (~1.7Kg) the Eluktronics MAX-15 can be configured with: - up to an AMD R9 5900HX or an Intel i7-11800H - up to RTX 3080 16GB - up to 32GB 3200MHz RAM

No integreted webcam
But if you have Ultrabooks with IRIS XE Graphics as main competitors i think it looks pretty good...
Acer should go for 2x 60whr (120whr )battery option , storage 3x M.2 or 2x M.2 + HDD option .
i dont know why thickness is the matter ? i prefer low noise during gaming , its time using 100mm fan run in low speed , bigger heatsink . below should expose the heatsink instead of cover by plastic .
kinda want to know if the ports are separated between the graphics card and the computer itself
What is really unacceptable imo is the lack of a VRR display
OMG, My Acer Swift 7 had that same issue with the reversed brightness buttons. I thought I was crazy at first. You get used to it eventually, but you shouldn't have to lol.
My GPU Wattage won't go higher than 45W and I updated BIOS to the latest version. Can you help?
Yup a higher res display that is bright and good colors is a requirement for my next laptop
If i connect an external monitor, will i get more fps(so is there optimus)?
Hello, I'm having same problem with energy consumption of GPU. I updated all BIOS/Firmware drivers as you said, but I'm still having avg 60W in turbo and extreme mode. What also could be reason of problem?
Me too
What type of screwdriver should I use to remove the back?
Which is a better option to Alienware x17 or close too it
Please
Have you already review the new acer swift X i think its almost the same with the spec of acer predator triton 300 se
So is it good for work and lighter games?
This guy should review office laptops and Dmitry should review gaming laptops.
why wouldnt you put the g14 up for comparison ?
When will triton 500 se available?
For the same size/weight (~1.7Kg) the Eluktronics MAX-15 can be configured with:
- up to an AMD R9 5900HX or an Intel i7-11800H
- up to RTX 3080 16GB
- up to 32GB 3200MHz RAM
Prices?
Beautiful, but 4 cores in 2021. Nice job intel
They have also released 6 and 8 core CPUs, OEM are not implementing them, not Intel's fault
Yeah, i found a working 3770k with mobo at the electronics dump yesterday. Quad core is last decade for sure.
@@allenwalker9928 it is their fault that they brand their 4 core as i7-H (i7=high end, H=high performance)
@@kb8102 And that comes under H35 series (35 watt TDP), you cannot blame them for people not being able to read and understand the concept of TDP and a series
@@allenwalker9928 say hello to ryzen 5000 mobile series, is that only your excuse for intel? Lol don't be a clown please
Im software engineer and a university student I also like gaming so Im thinking of ( asus - rog 16" wuxga 144hz gaming laptop - intel core i7 - 16gb memory - nvidia rtx3050ti - 512gb ssd ) is it great pick??
14" laptop for $1500 & NO mention of the brilliant *"G14"* ??
Had to hold massive intention of closing the video due to Intel chips. But for the love of the channel, i stayed
when is the acer predator triton 500 se coming out
Acer care center update does not work at all. I have not receive a single update yet.
Good luck with 4c/8t CPU for gaming, well done Intel 😀
Can you or someone else please explain how I check if the GPU is running at 75 W? Thanks
Super late reply , use MSI afterburner or check your predator sense
@@barrosokevinanthony8139 cheers
This Predator Triton 300 SE is not that good, but yes please do review the 500 SE!
G14: "FInally, a worthy opponent.
Our battle will be legendary!"
*But then, the battle wasn't legendary*
Could you do a review for the SteelSeries Prime Wireless mouse (I.E a somewhat alternative to the G PRO)
16:40
Or buy a G14 with over double the CPU performance and less bottleneck. You really missed the mark by not even remotely mentioning it since it's about the same form factor and price. This is especially disappointing as you guys make excellent reviews. This one was no exception minus the questionable conclusion, particularly giving the impression that this is as far as you can get without going 15".
04:48 facing same concern with my acer predator helios 300
I would say yes because its on sale rightnow at best buy and just upgrade your internals to make it an even bigger beast (picked up mine yesterday 500$ off) for the 500 se
epic review
thanks a bunch
I need Asus Tuf A15 with the Rtx 3070 review. Really want to know the 3070 performance tho.
can you male a video on predator triton 500 se
agreed, we need more 16:10 displays! I also want to return to see the bright, vivid, bright and natural looking glossy displays as I'm sick there is no choice for them on the market.
How many hours could it keeps itself without electricity
Its frustrating that you are only comparing it to 15" laptops. It needs to be compared with 14"
45watt CPU power is a lot for 14ich laptop even for some 15inch
I think having Ryzen 5 or 7 would have been nice with turboboost disable
yea! he didn't say, spend responsibly, so i can buy a new laptop that i don't need!
thanks, Eber! i was curious about this one since i saw it on BB.
can you do a special video titled "Gaming laptops that don't throttle". many will be interested....
My experience with Acer laptops is theyre light and affordable but fragile. Carried plenty of brands and acer's plastic bodies cracked the earliest. Only recommend acer if you plan to switch in 2 years
What series is that because series would impact build quality too
Does it have 3 ms response time
I'm planning to buy it because it actually looks like a normal laptop
Help!!! Please I am not a gamer.

Does anyone know if this laptop can run solidworks?
Is the 3050ti model better?
i really think it would be interesting to see how this compares vs the g14 with a 3060 since that would be interesting since it's the same form factor. similarish weight and same gpu
the CS:GO test is really funny lmao
