Hey Jarrod ! I have a Lenovo 5 Pro for over 2 years now and everything was amazing with it : gaming, productivity, 3d modeling. But like a month after the end of the minimal warranty, things started to go south : some keys of the keyboard failing to respond consistently, all the usb ports completely being useless except for charging devices... I took a warranty long enough so I hope that Lenovo will make it work again (amazing after-sale service though), but still I thought to give you my personal feedback on that beast that the Lenovo 5 Pro is (or was for now..).
6:38 what do mean by helios has no such feature??? I'm using it and it doesn't even show black screen like other laptops. When power goes screen goes to 60hz mode when power comes it goes 165hz mode.
The Acer keyboard has much better travel and tactile feedback. Having Multiple Scleroses I struggle to type on the Legion. This is probably only important to developers and less so for gamers.
So basically the only real difference is the brand, even if this Legion also had the same screen as the Helios. I'd say pick whichever is cheaper in your region.

Made my purchase based on videos like this and I am quite happy with my Lenovo Legion 5i pro. The 230 hz Lenovo display is awesome but I assume the 165 is fine too. I consider Jarrods tech to be my foreign brother as we both like gaming laptops and metal music. Another great video as always.
Why no one is talking about Intel's 13&14 gen processor's instability problems. It's all over internet but no tech review you tuber is mentioning about it. Both the laps in this video are having high performance 14 gen intel processor.
9:45, lenovo optimization is a tier above to score good score in CINE24 on battery and also give twice battery life in video. may be legion is running on lower clocks when on battery. 9:02 good CPU clocks ingames . but little lagging behind in games coz most of the power is given to CPU. for a CPU power user and for battery backup for watching video Legion is better coz of clocks. while helios is better for gamers.
In terms of pcmark 10 test on my Helios neo 14900 4070 compared with test result of legion 14900 4070 in the famous website “notebook “ review , Helios neo is better with Pcmark 10 score reach 9100 while legion remains less 9000, where there is about 3% to 5% gap between them. In game, the speed of my neo even reach 8000, I can not believe my eyes. The popular Ssd speed read test indicates that my neo is over unbelievable 7000, while its write speed is also amazing fast than most ssd including legion 5 pro. But its 4K read and write speed is 10% to 15% slow than legion 14900 4070.
I find torx screws so much better than phillips. Phillips screws tend to easily break with each failed screwing attempt, while it's very hard to do with torx due to their design.
Singapore, Both prices are similar. Acer is more likely to get a discount and sometimes comes with a free 16GB RAM upgrade. Lenovo currently have a i7-14th HX, 32GB, 1TB + with 240Hz monitor SKU in Singapore, no major discount yet.
Most gamer in SEA can only afford the entry level one, wage and currency being the main factor. Hence, the distributors are not confident in taking mid/high end models as much, especially now that the demand for these had slow down a lot. Thus, the price and availability. Heck even in SG, retail doesn't stock up on high end models as much these days. Acer Helios Neo just got another promotion price change. Lenovo Legion 5i, minor changes.
Finally pulled the trigger and got a Legion 5 pro with RTX 4070 it has amazing build quality and runs great. I got it on sale for $1450 with tax. This is my first legitimate pc gaming set up. I’m extremely pleased with it. Lenovo has a premium look and feel.

after watching you're videos i bought acer helios 16 rtx 4070 in discount offer ❤ im loving it .... thank you Jarrod...i still love the old looks of neo 16
Hmmmm, i wonder why Lenovo decided to put the ports on the sides. They were putting them directly in the back with 1 extra USB port on each side. That was the deciding factor for me a couple years ago. I absolutely loved it and couldn't believe how much more convenient they were being on the back instead of being on the sides. Im genuinely surprised they stopped putting the ports on the back and put them on the sides and closer to the front.
because they decided to change their cooling system design, there aren't any spaces for the port since that space is for exhaust and intake fans. I also do really love their old port management though, wish they could change their mind in the newer model 😆 (which is most likely not)
I was doing some window shopping at the mall few hours ago to check if I will buy the legion or the helios. And then you released this video, I might get the legion one. Thanks Jarrod!

How's the performance after 5 years ? And what about the battery life ? I'm looking forward to buy a legion too but I'm confused between the options right now .
@@amr4336 honestly the laptop has been phenomenal. The build quality on the legions is better than asus and others. One thing I wish Lenovo would do is make a laptop larger than 16 inches. I've decided to build a desktop gaming pc now, will have much more power and any size monitor I want I'm going with 27in 1440p. If in the market for laptop I'd definitely look at the legions
It's 2024 and Lenovo still offers only 10Gb/s USB-C on their 1500 USD+ laptops? Sorry, but that's a hard NO for me. Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 is great if you want to use the laptop in more "Workstation" role and want to use a TB4 dock as then you just disconnect 1 or 2 cables (if using power source separately). I love Lenovo and currently have a Legion 5 with 10th Gen Intel CPU so an upgrade is really necessary now. But c'mon Lenovo! No Thunderbolt, no deal!
What I really hate on Lenovo laptops is fan control. Look at the ridicolously low tempratures in balanced mode. The gpu stays 25°C under its limit of 87°C! The fans could run much quieter. The helios is much quieter in balanced with same power levels (43 vs 48db) which can be the difference between bearable noise without the need to wear headphones and disturbingly loud noise. Well, you can fix it using custom mode, right? No, you can't! Custom mode is a scam, because it only lets you raise fan speeds but not lower them. So you can make the Legion 5 only louder than it already is. Thanks for nothing, Lenovo
I got the predator Helios neo 16 2023 version and. And I love it way more than everything else in this video because it was cheaper and the 4060 and above they all do the same thing like the 4090 laptop version and the laptop version there’s no difference for me so get 4060 every time, for cheaper and good
Also planning on buying a lenovo legion, only stuck on which i should get (i can’t even follow the naming system anymore). Was wondering why you chose 5i (instead of pro 5 slim 5 7i whatever there is). :))
@@uhhhidk8300Price difference. It was best deal I could get, paying few hundreds for pro with same specs was not worth it for me. If I could get 5 pro for good price, I would probably get 2023 model, but Im totally happy with 5i, nothing to complain about. I would say you can't go wrong with any of them, it just depends on your budget and specs you need, just get whatever have best deal with specs you need. After watching many videos I decided to go with rtx 4060 laptop, 4070 with 8gb was not worth it, but 4080 was outside my budget I wanted to spend at the monent. I agree, naming is absolutely terrible, have no idea why they make it so complicated.
I'm rocking a Nitro 2022 with a 3070ti and 17-12560h whihc i added 16 gb ram to make it 32 gb ram and since Jarrod showed us how 3070ti is closer in performance to 4070 than you might think it is making me super satisfied that i chose acer over a somewhat superior but much more expensive Lenovo. PS I was pleasantly surprised by the wins by the Helios... i fully expected the lenovo to outperform! Wow For those curious I bought the Acer Nitro for 1230$ ish and got a RAM for another 40$ ish in my currency. So yea Acer all the way... meawhile Lenovo never offered a 3070ti in my country and only sold underpowered 3050 and 4060 or 1600$ 4070 granted with ddr5 ram but still almost 33% costlier.
Battery stuff and fan noise dont matter, laptop will always be plugged, its for gaming and we dont game for 30 minutes obviously. And fan noise wont matter cuz headset will always be on our heads xD
Legion 5 with I7 14650HX 4060 and a 1080P 350NITS/165HZ screen was costing me around 100$ more than the I7 14700HX 4060 WQXGA 165HZ screen and on top of that had a longer no interest finance option making it my choice
Did you use cooling pads for both laptops while running Cinebench 2024 ? I got i9 14900HX ,but i got a score of 1135 and 73 on CPU multicore and single core respectively. The fans were max and the laptop was on turbo mode. Did i get a defective piece ? What should i do ?

5:10 I'd argue that the helios should get a *higher* score because of the torx screws since they are way less likely to strip and so are more suited for being unscrewed and re-screwed repeatedly.

Apparently as here you mentioned that lenovo pushed it's CPU wattage to 70w 80w , it does in these lenovo loq models too and as new lenovo loq is not having that good of cooling for these hx series laptops, and these motherboard in Lenovo LOQ is not having that ptm paste which is used in legion model ,
All in all lenovo loq models are prone to motherboard dead issues and company is refusing to make a public comment, please look into this.
And even here in India lenovo has replaced some motherboards with refurbished ones causing them to die again in few cases users have mentioned same laptop having motherboard dead 2-3 times then after pushing much they refunded otherswise it's havoc.
My Legion 5 Pro recently died and first thing I noticed was tons of posts on Reddit with the same issue all within the same month
as an user of a PH16-71 i can say that Predator is doing everything well, the liquid metal is amazing and the perfomance is impecable.

Had the keyboard issue. Formatting seems to help for the other things

My helios do same like the video always run on 165hz all the time, what settings i need to do?
It’s so it’s saves battery when not plugged in
I ordered Predator Helios Neo with i9 14900hx and rtx4060 at 1299 dollars
The Acer keyboard has much better travel and tactile feedback. Having Multiple Scleroses I struggle to type on the Legion. This is probably only important to developers and less so for gamers.
So basically the only real difference is the brand, even if this Legion also had the same screen as the Helios. I'd say pick whichever is cheaper in your region.

just bought the 23 legion w/ 32gb 5600, 13700hx, 4070, 240hz panel for 1k and love it!! BIOS update somehow has the RAM running at 5600mhz vs 4800mhz that the 13700hx chipset is "supposed" to be limited to...but the BIOS update did remove cpu undervolt and overclock but doesn't bother me too much as the 4070 (UV locked @ 2600mhz core and 8200 on mem) at full tilt usually has the cpu at

Ill keep my eyes open for you?
Where are you located (roughly)? and budget?
I spent 6 months shopping and never bought a Lenovo before...but I love it...just know its not exactly light....but the trade off is good cooling and build quality...and getting 5600 on the ram with the 13700hx chipset is awesome as free bonus (even if you lose cpu undervolting)...I havent seen ANYWHERE that a 13700HX can do 5600 on the ram...but it absolutely does for some reason...some arbitrary Intel limitation I guess, and the i7-13700HX is PLENTY enough for gaming with the 4070 so not getting the i9-13900HX hasnt bothered me at all....
DEF try to get the 240hz panel tho bc the 165hx panel is much dimmer...350 vs 500 (ish) nits between the two!!
Always loved Lenovo's gaming laptop designs.
legion is great but man theres a cult of them going around invading laptop recommendation circles going legion legion legion, even seeing some people telling others to magically manifest double or triple their budget to buy a legion laptop of the same spec as some other brands available to them (especially in other countries with different prices) At this point its bordering on overrated
What do you mean double budget, i mean legions are in the cheaper side compared to other brand.
Also you can't really recommend anything else other than legions in the same class. on the lower class LOQ also dominating only second to victus
Both the laps in this video are having high performance 14 gen intel processor.
the problems are in the desktop cpus ......the mobile ones in the laptop have no such problem
@@zadregtsl In general it is there but it’s not as common as on the desktop.
Looks like Helios is better when my first priority is better performance for creation rather than design and key placement. I might go with Helios.
Lenovo currently have a i7-14th HX, 32GB, 1TB + with 240Hz monitor SKU in Singapore, no major discount yet.
its good to buy laptop in singapore, meanwhile in indonesia too much meh, higher price, came late, kinda lower spec, ect
Lenovo has a premium look and feel.

after watching you're videos i bought acer helios 16 rtx 4070 in discount offer ❤ im loving it .... thank you Jarrod...i still love the old looks of neo 16
for how much?
Hmmmm, i wonder why Lenovo decided to put the ports on the sides. They were putting them directly in the back with 1 extra USB port on each side.
That was the deciding factor for me a couple years ago. I absolutely loved it and couldn't believe how much more convenient they were being on the back instead of being on the sides. Im genuinely surprised they stopped putting the ports on the back and put them on the sides and closer to the front.
because they decided to change their cooling system design, there aren't any spaces for the port since that space is for exhaust and intake fans.
I also do really love their old port management though, wish they could change their mind in the newer model 😆 (which is most likely not)
Thanks for the video,Jarrod. I gonna get Lenovo Legion soon

I currently use a Lenovo Legion bought it in 2019 been a fantastic laptop. I would buy another in a heartbeat except I want a laptop larger than 16in. Leaning towards Asus or MSI

Wow
For those curious I bought the Acer Nitro for 1230$ ish and got a RAM for another 40$ ish in my currency.
