@@HDRookie nah there are quite a few builds that have more speed, weight and traction than teddy+rollers by only sacrificing 0,25 or 0,5 MT (worse case you still have as much MT as waluwig), all of that while gaining like an extra second of invincibility or more. I don't think they can be discarded that easily just yet
The kicker with the new meta is the options that can be used to be in the meta. Waluigi meta was strict in that only the extremes were valued, i.e. the stats of the best characters had little to no alternatives. In this meta, while the Rosalina kart setup is seen as the best, there are numerous alternative builds one can go with from both middleweight and lightweight characters that were left behind last meta.
When we think about it, the Waluigi Wiggler Combo was nuts, he only had a slightly better MT stat which doesn't make 90% of players better. It truly makes a difference when playing against pro's considering you have good lines, break drift, etc. Hopefully the new updates will mess up some more META and we can use atleast one character from each weight class to stay competitive. Altough it will be tough to stay on top with a lighweight character cause of the weight difference.
Meta builds online now consists of Rosa Teddy/Ink, Yoshi Bug and maybe the occasional babies bugs and even Mario standard. The fact that theres already 4 different builds I listed instead of just "Waluigi" is already a testament to the overall diversity of online instead of just centralizing on one build. Thats not even accounting for player preferences ive seen such as Peach Teddy or Rosa Buggy.
Currently using king boo + teddybuggy, feels better than anything I used pre wave 4. I did some work on the builder website and couldn't craft up anything that had more favourable stats, so I think that will end up being the meta. Feel like rosa will be the new waluigi, as for some reason people like playing as female characters. I'm gonna rock with King Boo just cuz he's my favourite of the 3 in the weight class.
personally i'm also using KingBoo but with the cat cruiser and sponges, and i'm currently trying other combos to see which one i prefer but atm, boo+catcruiser is my main, as he was my main even before the update
Nothing changes for me, still completely & utterly in love with Rosalina, still on inward drift W/The Yoshi Bike. Both Rosie and the Yoshi Bike got a buff and I get the benefit of pack camo so nothing but buffs for me in this meta.

Waluigi was primarily selected over Roy/DK not cause of visibility, but because of having a thinner hurtbox; allowing him to navigate tight spaces better such as going inside the cars on Toads Turnpike as well as your trailing shells/bananas giving better protection
anonymity can actually be a strong perk and side effect to everyone using the same build, so I can totally see a repeat of waluwiggler. although I won't be too surprised if Nintendo continues to patch for the last 2 waves
Just glad that there's finally some variety in what's played online. It will end up with a single build that every lobby is stuffed to the brim with, but at least it's not going to be waluigi this time.
Maybe I can finally play waluigi without feeling guilty about it once it settles, I don't even care for meta comps I just like waluigi. Personally I lowkey kinda hate it when my favorites are meta because then I feel like I'm just "one of them" by playing them, which seems like it'll happen with Link unfortunatrly

As a mii main, I am glad this meta has happened. I am trying out now combos myself in Mario vs Luigi renegade roundup. Somehow I won a few rounds using the GLA kart, Steel wheels and a random glider
I wish kart customization was more like tour, where each part had both stats, and a perk. For example, getting a bigger boost from panels, starting with more coins, increasing spin boost power, etc. I feel like that way, we’d see much more variation, depending on the course.
tour also has a meta, smaller characters are used because of their op acceleration and hearts are by far the best item so pretty much everyone uses pink shy guy with a small miniturbo kart

I also think in regards to tts while there are negatives in there being a better combo now, or meta if we'll go by that term... there's also now room for more improvement which is a big positive imo since it doesn't kill the tts side of the game.This is my opinion don't kill me lmao.
I agree with the TT take. It's like Season 2 now, and everything is faster. The game is objectively more friendly to casuals now - but by how much is the question. My guess is that it will only be very marginally more friendly to them. People weren't losing before because they didn't use Waluigi. People just liked to act like that was the reason. It is really apparent when you see players like Ace literally owning noobs with Shy Guy. Or Soldier becoming a MKU champion as an Inkling main. They're built different.
i dont care about the meta actually. I was experimenting with new character stats and settled for light blue Yoshi, the blue falcon, hyrule glider and the blue standart wheels. i love playing this combo, as its fast while still maintaining a decent miniturbo stat.

I’ve been playing bowser jr with yoshi bike standard wheels and bowser kite, chose this over paper glider just for a bit more speed and I’ll be honest I’ve been keeping up teddy rosa players and king boo players no problem. I’m also one of the few players who use the inside drift bikes so that might have a bit to do with it😂

Yesterday I did a ton of online races with Iggy using that Pirate Ship kart that I don’t know the name of and race tires, and got a very long top 5 streak going. My online points are very low cause I don’t play a lot (1300 currently) but I was facing people that had up to 1000 points more then me, since the Americans were asleep. It’s nice to see I can still grind online on whatever I want instead of having to learn something out of my comfort zone
I'm actually glad that we are shifting away from Waluigi. Yes, I could still win races against them using Mario or Yoshi. And I understand that when I lost it was because I was outplayed. My problem with Waluigi was the overexposure to him. I initially didn't have a problem with him, but you get sick of seeing about 10-11 players picking the same damn character every time. If someone like Rosalina or Link takes his place in the meta, then so be it. At least they are better characters than the purple man.
I feel that no matter how balanced the game is people will always use the "meta" build even if the actual advantage is almost negligible simply because it's still technically the "best", it's simply psychological that some people will prefer to use the optimal set up even if it doesn't make much of a difference and then some people will use it because other people are using it, unless every character vehicle combo was the exact same (which no one wants anyway) some will gravitate to what is considered the "best"
strongly on team Inkstriker here. as a former Wario Scooty main this one feels much closer to the Scooty than Teddy. i'm not convinced by Luigi/Inkstriker either i think Rosalina weight class minimum as you mentioned which still has plenty of MT. after experimenting inclined to believe heavier builds are also extremely viable with Inkstriker despite losing some MT. not the easiest to drive but very high speed ie Wario Inkstriker. depends on ones playstyle more than anything.
I absolutely despise the mk8d meta, and likely will continue to, for one reason and one reason only. The meta vehicle combos are and probably will remain fucking hideous lmao. Biddybuggy is the least offensive and roller tires make everything look stupid lmao

Anyone considering the Sports Coupe? I feel like it's a pretty good choice right now on the Rosa weight characters. Sports Coupe/Standard/Cloud gets you 4 speed and MT with average handling and slightly above average traction and weight. Downside is the 3.25 acceleration though The Comet also feels strong too if you can stomach the inside drift I've been running Lemmy/Sports Coupe/Standard/Super Glider lately and it feels pretty nice too. Tbh I feel like this combo could be above average on any weight right now lol
I love chainging turbos it's way easier than just being fast, that doesn't feel comfy idk why, I could never play a heavy character with a box shaped car

Haven't played online at all so take with massive salt, but Luigi // Tanooki Kart // Slim Tires have been treating me pretty well trying to get golds on 150cc Grand Prix offline
Too early to tell. I have a strong hunch it could be most common though. Rosalina / Teddy is more like Waluigi / Biddy. Inkstriker compares to Wiggler much more. It is not a 1 to 1 comparison though, as Wiggler had better handling to Inkstriker. This may sway things over to Teddy a little more. We'll have to wait and see.
I thought speed and weight were the worst stats. In a game where you are constantly getting hit and stopped isn't acceleration the best? And carts with better handling get mini turbo faster, so even if you have a lot of speed Stat if you can't get mini turbo often enough, it's useless.
You have to find that balance. Speed absolutely matters. Weight... only a little. You do get hit but there are ways to reaccelerate quicker sometimes, by charging a MT, using a mushroom, etc. Overall speed is usually more applicable than accel.
Also think of it this way: acceleration won’t matter if you don’t get hit. Don’t overcommit to the idea of failing. Ideally, you’d be speeding along at optimal speeds
They only improved stats. Being one of the only things to not get buffed feels like a nerf, but it technically isn't since its stats are were unchanged. You can still get the same times with it as before.
0:40 how is that bad news? that's just obvious news. no matter what you do you balance a game, there will always be a meta pick or whatever. I'm pretty sure most people's issue wasn't the fact that waluigi wiggler was meta, more so the fact that people playing off meta stuff couldn't keep up. so if you were actually looking to have fun while maybe win you couldn't. But now that the playing field is more even people can (pretty much) pick whatever they want and have fun while maybe getting some wins online.
I don't believe this change was enough for people who couldn't keep up before. They weren't losing because of stats before. That being said, we still haven't seen one combo settled upon yet. So people are going to feel like they're losing less to an overpowered combo, at least for now.
We need to test more medium characters, I saw people saying Mario on standard Kart is really good and I haven't seen many people testing Peach, Luigi and Daisy, I think they may have potential (just maybe, I haven't tested enough either)
I am a decently good player in Mario Kart wii and I race against funky Kong flame runners all the time an I don't play as funky Kong i play as my Mii and i'm still able to beat them
Yeah, meta combo is overrated by casual players. There's just no reason not to use it if your main goal is winning, since it does things better than other setups.
Each day that goes by I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that the GLA tires aren't better than the rollers.

I thought speed and weight were the worst stats. In a game where you are constantly getting hit and stopped isn't acceleration the best? And carts with better handling get mini turbo faster, so even if you have a lot of speed Stat if you can't get mini turbo often enough, it's useless.
You have to find that balance. Speed absolutely matters. Weight... only a little. You do get hit but there are ways to reaccelerate quicker sometimes, by charging a MT, using a mushroom, etc. Overall speed is usually more applicable than accel.
Also think of it this way: acceleration won’t matter if you don’t get hit. Don’t overcommit to the idea of failing. Ideally, you’d be speeding along at optimal speeds

Birdo has a +4 mini turbo stat I think, so I guess keep that in mind

Not true my combo before update was needed, was speed, now not with exact sane kart wheels kite combo, so yes some things was nerfed
They only improved stats. Being one of the only things to not get buffed feels like a nerf, but it technically isn't since its stats are were unchanged. You can still get the same times with it as before.

0:40 how is that bad news? that's just obvious news. no matter what you do you balance a game, there will always be a meta pick or whatever. I'm pretty sure most people's issue wasn't the fact that waluigi wiggler was meta, more so the fact that people playing off meta stuff couldn't keep up. so if you were actually looking to have fun while maybe win you couldn't. But now that the playing field is more even people can (pretty much) pick whatever they want and have fun while maybe getting some wins online.
I don't believe this change was enough for people who couldn't keep up before. They weren't losing because of stats before. That being said, we still haven't seen one combo settled upon yet. So people are going to feel like they're losing less to an overpowered combo, at least for now.
We need to test more medium characters, I saw people saying Mario on standard Kart is really good and I haven't seen many people testing Peach, Luigi and Daisy, I think they may have potential (just maybe, I haven't tested enough either)
Mario is good, normal tires are good, standart kart is not

Yeah, meta combo is overrated by casual players. There's just no reason not to use it if your main goal is winning, since it does things better than other setups.
