An army of alien parasitic slugs who have taken over multiple other alien species, whose enemies are the Andalites, proud centaur-like creatures with the technological power to morph. The Yeerks invade Earth secretly, taking over human minds and are so convincing that the hosts' closest friends and family can't even tell the difference. The Andalites try to fight but are taken down in orbit. One of the last surviving Andalites, war-prince Elfangor, gives five human children the power to morph and fight against the Yeerks. Jake, the leader, whose brother Tom is a human-Controller (Yeerk host). Marco, a jokester whose mother supposedly died years ago, his dad is a wreck, the financial state of his household is in shambles, and suddenly he finds out his mother's death was staged and she is really Visser One of the Yeerk invasion. Rachel, a salty fashionista with divorced parents and a love for fighting, who later goes pretty much insane. Cassie, a girl who cares for wild animals and hates the violent fight against the Yeerks the most. And Tobias, whose parents are both gone and he lives with his neglectful and abusive aunt and uncle. He was the first casualty of the Animorphs. If you stay in a morph past two hours, you don't come out. Ever. The Animorphs barely manage to keep the Yeerks from advancing on against the human race, and they can't ask for help. They don't know who could be a human-Controller, and don't want to put their friends or family in danger either. The Yeerks think they're just Andalite bandits who survived, and the Animorphs would prefer to keep it that way. Because if the Yeerks find out that they're just un-trained preteens, the whole planet is at stake. TL;DR - You need to do a review of the shitty Animorphs TV show once the graphic novels come out in 2020, is what I'm basically saying.

He's not that far off from the comics really. The symbiote always had a sense of humor and over time he became more of the comedic foil to Brock's serious, haunted personality. Of course, this movie cuts out all the haunted bits, so it doesn't work as well as it should be, given Eddie is just as goofy as The Symbiote.

that and they couldn't use Spider-Man in the origin because of the rights issue with the mcu using him at the time, so it's not like they could've made this movie comic book accurate even if they wanted to.
The problem is we don’t see ANYTHING of why the old lady and young girl: -never aroused suspicions with their any of their actions, especially a missing young white girl in America. -took so long to get to SanFran, or even had the money and ability to travel there. - somehow knew to go to the company’s SanFran HQ, and not any of their other buildings, legal east coast rocket launching facilities, or dedicated R&D facilities. [any smart company/scientist would keep an intelligent alien goo, that can easily infect people’s bodies, inside an *isolated* Level 4 Biohazard lab/building, at minimum] - how come neither of them had any of the semi-autonomy(ability to speak for 1), that every other successfully blended person did? Or, if they did, why did both go along with following the alien voice in their head without question? - why didn’t anyone set off an alarm when they saw a young girl killing security and scientists: at the gate, on the main level, and all of the subsequent levels until she somehow got to the secured symbiote testing level? These are some of the questions I had to ignore to enjoy this movie, but I did fully enjoy it overall.
@@GoatPopsicle you could chalk it up that Riot forcefully took over their bodies. Remember all three symbiotes are different. Venom was actually bonded with Eddie. Riot just gave no fucks. As for Carnage, well his name should be obvious
Agree. I still think this movie should have ended when Eddie got seperated at the MRI machine. Ann had no reason to keep it alive espically after seeing it eat people. Eddie was safe, it was a danger to everyone...
BlueGriffin20 even though we barely saw Venom attack at least one or two innocent people, oh, and next we got riot and the rest of the Symbiotes killing people, so that Kinda contradicts your point there.
not all ingredients are used for flavor. some of them are just to add texture or as a bonding agent for other ingredients, etc. etc. you petulant whelp.
@@brovid-19 salt does not add texture to baked goods and the general rule of thumb is 1/4 teaspoon of salt per 1 cup of flour meaning that a cake would need 24 CUPS of flour to offset the salt
Ok so when venom said “we found you” he meant the symbiotes found humans. Secondly, how dare you insult Rosemary Harris’s Aunt May. That woman is a national treasure.
Even if that is the case, a symbiote without a host still refers to itself in plural. If it were to talk out loud when separated from Eddie it would say "we need a new host"
Rosemary Harris wasn't just a treasure, she's truly a legend we need the most. She gave us morals about what a hero is all about. After all, we are all Spider-Man in our hearts because everyone can be a hero. Firefighters, officers, doctors, scientists, and any other heroes with shapes and sizes. Not just about that, even teachers, artists, and other civilians can be heroes. Thanks Aunt May.
The Spectacular Spider-Man TV show had the best interpretation of Venom outside of the comics. Eddie started as Peter’s friend, but slowly devolved as his life continued to go to crap. His addiction to the Symbiote was heartbreaking.
in hindisght , the spite makes sense, and the "addiction to the symbiote" he basically developed (most obvious when after getting the symbiote out he acts in a withdrawal state), BUT in hindsight.... shouldn't he getting the symbiote should have made him realize "huh. that' explains a lot"? (I know that scene is easily fixed with a minor dialogue of venom saying just 1 or 2 lines to easily convince Eddie, and we understand why that works. because he is already bonded). ALTHOUGH i will always give that venom this: h has the best reason why would he call himself venom. Although spectacular spider-man's venom loes points for me due to how his plan for exposing peter's identity was just entering the bugle, yelling "peter parker is spider-man" and apparently leaving the building (given next episode immediately starts with peter being interviewed by the bugle staff). I kow status quo, mind games and all..... but really? that was his start? not even attacking peter or the staff?
Ian R. Nava Huber Fair points. If Eddie had been calm, he might have realized all the times Peter or Spidey “ruined his life” were accidents or the result of a teenager making bad decisions in the heat of the moment. But he was already pissed, so hearing the “best friend” who kept showing up & the hero who kept sabotaging his work were one & the same may have led him to the incorrect conclusion that Peter was using his double life to make Eddie miserable. And while exposing Peter’s secret identity doesn’t sound all that intimidating, Eddie was probably banking on all the news channels digging up every possible scrap of dirt in Peter’s life to ruin his credibility. Beating Spider-Man to a messy pulp is easy & a short-lived victory. Trashing his name, ruining his reputation, putting him under the merciless scrutiny of the 24 hour news cycle & the Internet? That shit can last forever.
10:51 "That's not what people remember him for" I must be one of those who aren't people, because this is actually what I love most about Eddie Brock; the fact that he's supposed to be a very evil villain, but actually chooses to do good when he's not overpowered by his literal dark side.
15:03 "Why would saying that suddenly make him like her?" She started with get in the car, but ended with 'get in the back.' That could be interpreted a bunch of different ways.....
@Adrijana Radosevic are you on crack? took a harmless joke and made it into a boring diatribe on sex. and boinkin... hehehe boinking. your name doesnt fail you Badrijana, for you truly are most definitely an Eggplant
You can _literally_ pinpoint the moment Venom decides they're ride or die for Eddie. It's when Eddie says "we" after the security guard doesn't let them pass. Venom repeats "We..?" then immediately afterwards offers assistance "You want up?" then advice with Anne, then assures Eddie they can fix his heart, then rescues him & saves the planet. The moment Eddie speaks of them as a "we" a symbiosis/package deal, Venom was 100% on-board/sticking with Eddie forever.
Rj Peterson Like, imagine a body snatcher horror mixed with Eddie’s actual backstory taking itself seriously like Joker. But not pretentiously serious 😂
Christian Tompkins okay? And that, in which you said, is what made the movie, imo, a pretty good watch with it’s humor, shame it was rated PG-13 instead of rated-R though, we could have got to see more dark jokes, hell, maybe even some blood and gore, but hey, as long as it’s more mature than the rest of the MCU fan-base and it’s movies, then I’m sold.

You know, I was going to say "I'm surprised you didn't mention all the similarities between this and Upgrade", and then at the last minute you sort of did. There were soooo many similar details in both movies, from the main premise, to the puppeteer style body movements, all the way up the the stars of both movies. I honestly had to go to IMDB when I saw the first trailer for Upgrade, to make sure that wasn't Tom Hardy playing that role as well.
I think about upgrade is it's a lot darker than the movie but also when Eddie is moving he just looks like he's possessed like he's unable to control his movements it's all jerky and such, while upgrade the opposite is trueit still gets across that he has no control over himself but rather than being almost by instinct or instead of being possessed it looks more like it's calculated, its precise,it's tight it looks like a machine is running his body
And you parents stared at you, awkwardly, wondering what bizarre young-person lingo could possibly make sense out of the phrase "not enough Nicholas Cage".
Wether you liked the movie or not I thought it was hilarious at least we can all be in agreement that Tom Hardy is a much better venom than topher “ooh my spider sense is tingling” grace
Topher was bad, but that still doesn't mean I'm ever going to watch Venom. Spider-Man 3 is campy and enjoyable, but could have been better had the Evil Sony Overlords not forced Venom into it.
Logan Marshall Green and Tom Hardy look so alike that Hardy could be switched with Green in 'Inception' and vice versa in 'Prometheus' and I wouldn't bat an eye...
Actually, that line "...on my planet I'm sorta a loser" was one of the best in the film. It simultaneously was hilarious but also helped connect Eddie to Venom.
Captain Barbossa yes it was stupid, and yes venom deserves better, but I’d say the movie is kinda like Spider-Man 3 where you enjoy and good and the bad parts
Wrong way, dude. Venom was content to share while his people demanded total assimilation. That’s why he shares with Eddie and Peter when he arrives on Earth.
@@LordMoonshadowGaGa realy? I guess sens he become a big villan I thought it was That way. Also dose he not slowly start take over Peters body and go out fighting crime when Peter is sleeping? Also when Flash has venom, dose he not have to take him of after some time so Venom dose not take over his body? IF you are right guess i heard what I wrote somewere and somehow change it in my mindre to get it to fit with the venom we know.
eventyraren The Klyntar story arc kind of retcons that to make Venom more sympathetic and explain why he swaps to the hero side more organically. The Klyntar used to be happy with a symbiotic relationship with various species and absorbing their cultures into their own until their leader bonds with a hero who harbored a dark side. It introduces megalomania to the Klyntar and the entire species starts assimilating rather than co-existing. Venom chooses he would rather retain the old ways than follow the brood and he’s sealed in a meteor and sent to drift in space forever.
Right that's what I was thinking, doesn't that nullify critics argument about the big loser scene. I'm not super well versed in venomlore but doesn't the symbiote become mad after Peter?
You know, it only after reading this did I realize that Venom was "poisoned" by Eddie Brock in the comics. Venom actually learned morals and kindness from Peter, which is why he fought crime while he was sleeping in the first place, only to get, Imma say this again so bear with me, "poisoned" by a combination of Eddie's resentment of Peter and Venom's anger at being abandoned. The creators of Venom were waiting... hold on, let me Google it... 32 years! 32 years just so people can get the joke with his name and I only just got it.
From what I recall about the character of Venom, he was never overtly evil. Most of his bad guy stuff was almost exclusively directed toward Peter, usually leaving innocent people alone.
Since the beginning, venom has a rule of not killing innocents and kids. That's why he takes on him to team up with spidey to beat carnage. But he was really darker than that hugh grant-ish venom
Iskalde Edemark The Eddie Brooke Venom considers himself a hero and Spider-Man the villain. But it’s delusional and he is murdering people for minor crimes. He is an evil mirror to Spider-Man, but out for a bloody crusade with zero real moral compass. I think the original Venom was a great villain with a well established agenda, clear flaws and a fitting form of evil. But yeah, it all hinges on him being delusional, which is not the case in this movie, this movie clearly intends Venom to be a hero, not a villain, hence cutting away all his dark sides.
@@palaniuki Well, you're almost right. Eddie did in fact kill innocents in his first real appearance, Amazing Spider-Man #300. He regretted it even back then, but said "it was necessary if it a part of him punishing the Spider-Man" (keep in mind that back then Eddie Brock was written as a raving lunatic). Eventually this was sorta swept under the rug, Venm gradually got a more defined moral code and shifted into anti-hero territory (though he was still often written as a delusional lunatic; remember the lobster scene from the movie? This was more or less normal behavior for early 90s Venom).
While I did like this film I only have one thing that bugged me was the way symboite isn’t like a sickness, they’re drugs, the more you use one the more you lose yourself to it’s intoxicating power.
If I remember right, during Eddie's break-in, there are displays of the names of characters who were possessed by Symbiotes in the comics. For example, Scream's host was there.

@@imanobody7911 WRONG! A Symbiote who has combined with someone NEVER says I or YOU (to the host) they are simple WE. WE ARE VENOM, because they are ONE now. It has nothing to do with species. @KJ Beast It was fan service done right. I’ve read maybe, like, two or three Marvel comics since I became a Marvel fan, and watching that movie felt like watching a living, breathing comic book. I loved how we finally got a Miles movie, because the teenage audience, including me, love him because we really relate to him. I also loved how Peter Parker and Spider-Gwen got the spotlight as well. I love both characters, and the arc Peter goes through in this film is PHENOMENAL. It made me want to see more of him. Yes, that movie was fan service. It gives us Spider-Man fans what we want in a Spider-Man movie.
Still love the series, i'd like these done: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Percy Jackson 2 A Series of Unfortunate Events Holmes and Watson Annie (2014) Edit: Had to do this, since he already did one of these for disneycember (thank you whoever reminded me) Edit 2: Thx for the likes, and added a new movie on there for the heck of it.
That Indie Reviewer It’s the reason we got it though that matters. Sony NEEDED lighthearted, good, Venomman to be the stand-in for SpiderMan, as they build their own cinematic universe. Venomman’s journalism will be their connecting link as they bring out characters like Morbius. All while they milk the MCU for legitimacy with Sony made Spiderman movies. It’s quite smart taking the slow MCU way, instead of the stupid Dark Universe and the rushed Snyder-verse ways.
Uhh.. Technically the bit where Venom mentions he was basically bullied on his homeworld and he wasn't popular was technically correct. In the comics Venom was ostracized on his world. This was mentioned in the comics prior to the movie's release.
Oh really? Well in this movie yes, but in the comic, no way. The comics go into depth of how a different host can effect Venom’s personality, but I do see why you said that. Good comment
19:19 I dont think thats what Venom meant by "You" when responding to eddie asking why Venom came back. I think it's because neither one or the other can survive without eachother anymore thus developing a true symbiotic relationship. Eddie will die after a period of time without Venom due to how much abuse he as taken as Venom and the reliance on Venom for survival. The symbiotes need hosts to survive, Venom (in this continuity) must be one of the weaker symbiotes, thus needing a proper host to survive unlike Riot which may be something like a high ranking soldier in the symbiote army, thus being stronger and allowing him to jump from host to host but also taking control of them. That's merely what I think Venom means by that but I doubt it's right.
HyperUnity 56 I TOTALY AGREE!!! Honestly right now theirs two versions of venom out their the shitty jered Leto version of venom or the buff badass head eating monster who talks in a great deep voice has funny lines and has good chemistry with eddy and both venom, and venom and eddy like the girlfriend because she’s a fighter like them eddy even though he is turned down by what was going to be his wife and by losing his job still fights back. And even though people say “oh the comics did it better!” Those comics had much more time to develop a character and to make a story out of venom. By this same logic tons of marvel and especially DC movies should be hated and condemned for not following the comic book. Going back to the jered Leto metaphor what would you rather have? (Also nostalgia critic even says “we don’t talk about that” about the Spider-Man 3 movie in his review because it basically makes everything Thing he said about why venom sucks look less credible)
I just love how much fun Tom Hardy had playing this character, like he probably saw that shitty script and just went crazy with the character just for fun
I... honestly would say not. Sure, they could have shown a lot more in terms of violence, show actual blood splatter and gore. But if it still had the same story, plot, and characters, then it would have ended up the same, just with people citing it as ten-times edgier and filled with grotesque, uncensored violence. The story, characters, and writing needed a lot of work, it felt super rushed like they were just hopping from point A to point B with no stops. It was like the director was saying, "screw pacing and taking our time building up the dynamic between these two characters, we got to bullet-point this sh*t!" There's no levity, there's no time to breathe. There's no time given for these characters to grow and understand each other. As Critic explained, there's really is no reason for Venom to go from unstoppable hunger of death and destruction, to "I like you, let's save the world, pal." A-Rated R version would just show a lot more of the blood and carnage, but it wouldn't fix the more prominent issues with this movie, sadly.
No it isn't. Romcoms are almost always cancer. This is not different. The only good thing about this movie is to remind people to be grateful it isn't 2002 anymore.
Ninja Hombrepalito Sorry man didn’t see your comment. Oh I completely agree. Since first subscribing to this guy I knew he was a shitty movie critic (as in critical thinking, knowledge of source material, knowledge of filmmaking, etc). But I thought he was a decent skit writer. His Lorax one is probably my favorite. So I stay subscribed and just keep away from his ‘think piece’ stuff where he gives stone cold takes clearly based on personal tastes. I skipped through most of the skit stuff here I knew it would be insufferable ‘it’s wrong because it’s different’ crap. I unironically enjoyed Venom. But I also adore that it’s structurally identical to a romcom.
First off Venom is my favorite comic book character When I saw this movie I really couldn't stand how they missed so many opportunities with Venom and Eddie's comic book history and lore, But after watching this more than once I began to enjoy it as a movie and not as a Venom movie, it's a decent and entertaining movie but alas it's not the Venom movie that would show everyone why this character has endured for so many years
@@Megaproductions302 really? spider-man 3's venom isn't really that bad. it gets the job done. especially when you remmeber they wanted to divide spider-man 3 into part 1 and 2 and part 2 but itgot cancelled and had to fit in mst of part 2 into the movie we got. that venom is serviceable. and at least his "non-host form" looks astonishingly great
Okay, I feel like this had to be said so everyone can understand. I saw this movie with my friend a year ago, when it was first released. And they had told me that this movie was set in a universe WITHOUT Peter Parker a.k.a Spiderman! Eddie and venom's character and their development relied on Spiderman because it was him that brought them together! Peter Parker, who had taken away Eddie's job and caused him to resent the superhero. And Venom, who was Spiderman's first host but was rejected. When Eddie and Venom found each other, they used their hatred of Spiderman as a common ground for them to work together to bring the superhero down. But, there is no Peter Parker or Spiderman in this universe. This movie is set only on Eddie's point of view and in his world! So of course the story and the characters are going to change because they do not have the triggered Spidey to bring it to life. Not to mention, even though people are offended by the fact that it wasn't truly based off the comics, again, the comics are based off of Spiderman universe, and you can't be in said universe if you do not have Spiderman! Meaning that Eddie, Venom and even Eddie's ex-girlfriend would act differently because they had different lives and different outcomes. Like in the 90's Spider Man Animated series. The symbiotes, mostly Venom, was brought to earth by JJ. Jameson the third but the rocket crashed into the Golden Gate bridge. Spiderman went there to save the astronauts but got infected with Venom. However, because there was no spiderman or J.J Jameson, that meant that the story had to changed. And that was only the beginning. Don't even get me started on when the Rhino came and Eddie took pictures of Spiderman "Robbing" the space shuttle. Again, this was only from the animated cartoon and I do not know how much canon that was from the comic. But the point is, not everything is going to 100% from the source material. Especially when creating a world where the main plot device (Spiderman) is not present. I thought the movie was a bit silly, especially now looking at this review. But I still liked it. And yes, there might have been some material that they glossed over that they could have put in here without needing to reference Spidey. However, they did have to change a lot for the characters and story to fit into this new universe. Plus, they may add in more of Eddie's backstory if and when they end up making a sequel or at least find some way to tie in venom into future Marvel crossover movies. I just had to get that off my chest to inform you all.
@Captain Barbossa It seems you weren’t listening but let me say it so you understand it. THEY COULD NOT STICK TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL FOR LEGAL PURPOSES!!!!
Captain Barbossa Something we can agree on if you can’t fully use the source material you shouldn’t make it that is true but with what they had they made a solid 6/10 movie
@@pizzavictory113 I think that's what's best about it. The movie may have a corny vibe, but it still has that corny vibe magic the Sam Raimi Spiderman offered.

It's possible
That actually can be done in one movie. As long as you hire smart people
Everyone has complained about the little girl getting in the lab like its a plothole. Did you all forget she had a SYMBIOTE at the time?
The problem is we don’t see ANYTHING of why the old lady and young girl:
-never aroused suspicions with their any of their actions, especially a missing young white girl in America.
-took so long to get to SanFran, or even had the money and ability to travel there.
- somehow knew to go to the company’s SanFran HQ, and not any of their other buildings, legal east coast rocket launching facilities, or dedicated R&D facilities.
[any smart company/scientist would keep an intelligent alien goo, that can easily infect people’s bodies, inside an *isolated* Level 4 Biohazard lab/building, at minimum]
- how come neither of them had any of the semi-autonomy(ability to speak for 1), that every other successfully blended person did?

Rosemary Harris is English.

The Spectacular Spider-Man TV show had the best interpretation of Venom outside of the comics. Eddie started as Peter’s friend, but slowly devolved as his life continued to go to crap. His addiction to the Symbiote was heartbreaking.
God i remember that scene, I felt bad for Eddie in that scene, i wish season 3 (which never came out) could redeem Eddie in some way
in hindisght , the spite makes sense, and the "addiction to the symbiote" he basically developed (most obvious when after getting the symbiote out he acts in a withdrawal state), BUT in hindsight.... shouldn't he getting the symbiote should have made him realize "huh. that' explains a lot"?

Me and Tom Hardy: *hiccup*
Before this movie, I never thought I wanted a sexy female version of Venom. I was wrong.
She was created in 1995
You can imagine what the comic book fans felt like when they first saw her in the comics.
Now will they do a part 2 featuring the female venom again.

I dont think thats what Venom meant by "You" when responding to eddie asking why Venom came back.
No you're right
HyperUnity 56 I TOTALY AGREE!!!
(Also nostalgia critic even says “we don’t talk about that” about the Spider-Man 3 movie in his review because it basically makes everything Thing he said about why venom sucks look less credible)
well if that's the case they could've just said that
00:00 - For some reason, there's a super loud sound at the start of the video. Might want to fix that.
I just love how much fun Tom Hardy had playing this character, like he probably saw that shitty script and just went crazy with the character just for fun
He was trained in the art of Venom by his son, who is a Marvel fan.
The script was fine, I just hope Venom 2 is more dark and has less Marvel humor
At least one person enjoyed it.
I noticed that and it made the movie fun.. We all know that this movie wasn't going to gain Oscar nominations but it wasn't bad..
@@barracuda0405 and make it A soft Rated R..
I feel like this would have been better if it was rated R
I... honestly would say not. It was like the director was saying, "screw pacing and taking our time building up the dynamic between these two characters, we got to bullet-point this sh*t!"
There's no levity, there's no time to breathe.
Critic: this movie is bad because it’s basically a romcom
God tier brain: this movie IS AMAZING because it’s basically a romcom

First off Venom is my favorite comic book character
When I saw this movie I really couldn't stand how they missed so many opportunities with Venom and Eddie's comic book history and lore,
But after watching this more than once I began to enjoy it as a movie and not as a Venom movie, it's a decent and entertaining movie but alas it's not the Venom movie that would show everyone why this character has endured for so many years
Blind Red Dragon still better than Topher Grace
@@Megaproductions302 really? spider-man 3's venom isn't really that bad. it gets the job done. especially when you remmeber they wanted to divide spider-man 3 into part 1 and 2 and part 2 but itgot cancelled and had to fit in mst of part 2 into the movie we got.

NGL, a Dr. Phil-like show with Venom as the host actually *would* sound pretty cool and worth watching irl.
Fuck, that was a lot to read. But thank you for informing us; it's really appreciated. At least by me
@Captain Barbossa It seems you weren’t listening but let me say it so you understand it.
Actually the first host was deadpool which explains why venom is kinda fucked up the way he is
This felt like a lost early 2000's superhero movie
