"A Facinating Movie" is not something I've heard Amazing Spiderman be described as before. I mean I like it just fine but I was genuinely surprised by that statement.
Andrew Garfield was the Timothy Dalton of Spider-Men. Complex, charismatic, and completely underappreciated in his time. And just like Dalton, I wish Andrew had gotten a third shot.

I wouldn’t say perfect; the suit in this movie is a bit of a proto Spider-Man suit similarly to how the Flash suit in ZSJL was more of a proto Flash suit
@Alec L Other way around. The original dev team in Japan referred to the character as Eggman, and the English localizers changed it to Robotnik for the English release without consulting the devs. Sega of Japan and Sega of America were basically fighting each-other at the time, even to the point where the English team got their version released first.
16:40 fun fact, in the Danish version of "Itsy Bitsy Spider" the spider is actually named Peter. We call him "Lille Peter Edderkop" which means "Little Peter Spider"
In defense of this movie, the "Responsibility" line in this film was actually taken directly from the Ultimate Comics. It wasn't just the screenwriter trying to be different.
Even the first instance of the "With great power” line wasn’t from Uncle Ben, it was from a narrator panel on one of the early comic issues. Not to mention, the Raimi and Webb films over-inflate Uncle Ben’s importance. He died from failing to stop his killer and that’s it. It’s like if Superman kept quoting the Kent’s or the El family or Tony Stark referred to his parents. It will be ridiculous. EDIT: Checked that Peter getting his uncle killed as his driving point is indeed from the comics.
And in offense of this movie, if you're going to take from Ultimate comics, GO ULTIMATE. Not play it safe, not middle of the road, not tepid...the Ultimate comics were the best sellers because it didn't hold back....unlike this film.
I wish doug had taken a minute to talk about the web scene in the sewers. That whole concept is really interesting, and shows a creative side to this Spiderman iteration, as hes actually "Doing whatever a spider can."
Reminds me most of the Spiderman I grew up with in the animated series. He wasn't just a badass, it became a trope that he'd have to modify his gear or use his intelligence to win the day.
That's because he is to busy being a contrarian to try pulling actual good things. Despite hating the Rami films he suddenly likes them, despite everyone hating this film he doesn't.
@@Ryan-hv3kn calm your tits, they're just movies. Maybe if he didn't like them, he didn't like them. I didn't like Frozen, and I have a good reason, you gonna call me contrarian? (Don't answer, I don't care.)
Can someone explain why people hate the suit? His suit is awesome. It's sleek, makes him look aerodynamic, the colors look great and the eyes make sense as to work with his vision.
It also looks like something a teenager would create. I love that the bottom of his shoes came from tennis sneakers, the patterns were printed on, and the lenses came from sunglasses. It's probably my favorite redesign for the character. And it makes me wished TASM2 suit still had bits and elements of the first one's suit like the logo or colors.
I always wondered that, too. The closest I've heard to a reason why it sucks is that it "looks like deflated basketball". Okay... and? It's fine if people say they just don't like the way it looks, but they don't; they talk like this suit is objectively garbage and only crazy people like it
Truth. Though I never really understood how bullying could be a sustained thing. I thought Rhys Ifans was pretty good as the lizard I mean he’s not Alfred Molina as doc ock or Michael Keaton as the vulture but I still thought he gave a great performance even though they should’ve included that deleted scene with billy Connors thus giving him an actual motivation for having his arm
Majin Boi no Alfred Molina was awesome as doc ock the lizard was wasted potential because by the end of the movie he comes off as a 60’s spiderman villain planning to take over the world but at the beginning he’s a good man
@@owendudley5218 Funny, i don't think Garfield looks 29, at a max i'd say 22 but actually somewhere around 17-19. Toby however looked way closer to 30 imo, something about his face seems grown up even if his character doesn't act like it.
This film has a special place in my heart, not so much because it was great but because it was one of the last movies I saw with my Uncle Steve who passed away two summers ago. I distinctly remember a few hilarious moments of his commentary. When the car goes over the bridge and it's hanging on by a thread my Uncle turned to me and said "There's what happened the first time your mother tried to drive." And during one of the scenes where the Lizard is starting to turn, he leaned over and in a voice I wish I could replicate he quipped, "Pay no attention to the Lizard skin on my neck."
Same, it has good stuff in it and good character work mostly, but the entire mystery around peter's parents was pretty pointless and how they actively tried to avoid repeating the other films but still had to rephrase some stuff is pretty silly and forced and takes you out of it.
@@BigGator5 Too bad they didn't treat Aunt May, Curt Connors, Uncle Ben or even Peter Parker (who felt more like Marty McFly than anything) with the same respect. They spent way too much effort in making a better romance sub-plot than anything else.
I wouldn’t say Homecoming stole that idea Gwen and Captain Stacey have always been related in the comics, while the twist in Homecoming is completely original and legitimately surprising

@brandon roberts So Gwen Stacy's death doesn't count as a thing happening? One frustrating thing about the ending of Spider-Man 3 is that Peter & MJ are back exactly the way they were. Both movies are just awful.
To a point, but I think something boring and safe can also garner a lot of rage. This was during the beginning of the MCU, why be safe when Marvel is letting its audience feel like super heroes?
I remember the movie tie-in games more than I remember this movie and its sequel. They weren't Spider-Man for the PS4 by any stretch but they were better than they had any right to be.
This film was absolutely fine, and I enjoyed this take on Spider-Man. The sequel is what ruined EVERYTHING. Now, when you think of The Amazing Spider-Man, all you think about is Jamie Foxx. Ughhh...
I really loved those two movies. For me Andrew was the best spiderman on the big screen. Like, he is funny but akward sometimes, but always tries to keep a smile on his face no matter what is at stake. I don't even have to say he's the best Spiderman right? Funny, makes joke of his enemies, etc. And his relationship with Gwen is just adorable. I can't stand to see the relation between Tobey and MJ in the first movies... it's all the same whereas with the amazing spiderman there's so much more chemic between them, Gwen is not a princess that needs to be saved; Peter and Gwen both work together! Anyway. Can't find issues on those movies that people criticize so much. I will defend even Elektro in the second movie. People prayezed the Joker for his depth and character. I know, I know. I am not trying to say Elektro was a better and written character, but at end of the day, they are pretty much the same character: both live with their problematic moms; they don't know hot to fit in society or how to interact and they both got mad at the world for setting them apart and want to make them suffer. So I don't see Elektro as a motiveless character. Lizard is pretty much stable as a villain and Harry had his motives to do what he did... He was lonely and lost, he just wanted a friend a somebody to save him... It's still 2020 and I hope that someday we're gonna get something with Andrew's spiderman. Be it a spider-verse or a appereance on a Venom movie, whatever. I just want to know what happened to him and how he dealt with his loss and everything. Just one more thing. I don't know why people criticize so much the fact that the TASM franchise tried to work on Peter's parents. I mean. I've always wondered why they left him. Now we kinda know... and I am okay with what we got. I just want to say that these are really underrated movies that should have a little bit more of attention...
Can I say, I really love when they did the first person swinging in TASM, gave you that adrenaline like your swinging with him, wish they would bring that back, and it looks cool as hell, maybe it's just me, lol
Not just you bro I strongly agree! That was one of those things where the format of seeing something in the movie theater is the only way to experience it and for good reason.
@Black Ninja I think I read somewhere that they brought back the same people who worked on the Webb swinging secuences to enhance Far From Home's ones.
No matter your thoughts on this movie, I think everyone can agree: The store Clerk refusing to let Parker have his chocolate milk because he was two cents short is an asshole.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the uncle Ben killer was going to be revealed as clint kassidy aka Carnage aka venom on psychotic steroids But the franchise was cancelled for avengers before it went that far
Yeah, take a penny leave a penny is a courtesy. I got it from another comment from Cosmonaut's Amazing Spider-Man video. There shouldn't be a rule you have to spend a lot of money to take pennies.
Yeah if it was all dark blue and had hexagons I think it would look pretty good as long as it doesn't have really long wrist razor things but honestly my favorite suit was probably from the worst Spider-Man show unlimited anyone remember that
I've seen this movie twice and honestly can't remember any scene in this movie. The last trilogy had its flaws but were still pretty good. I honestly cant even tell you who the villain was in this movie
@@reshonjohnson4017 At least someone agrees with me. Even when I first watched this movie, I always thought that she was Mary Jane. Even though her name was not disclosed.
reshon johnson It’s public info, it was made so before the movie was released. Shailene Woodley was cast, there’s pictures of her and Garfield on set, they were probably setting her up for the third one. I think her filmography actually lists the second film as well, though in deleted scenes. I like her as an actress, but I think it’s for the best it didn’t happen, I really can’t see her surpassing Stone’s Gwen.
I actually loved the Crane Operator scene; seeing as the crane operator who got the ball rolling is the father of the boy Spider-Man initially saved on the bridge during his first public reveal. I appreciated that the dad wasn't a one-off extra, and that Spider-Man seemed to get a more natural win over New York. The music was trumpet-y enough without being over the top and the NY/American pride message was delivered successfully without distracting from the point of the scene being: Get Spider-Man to the final fight & save the day.
I think I laughed a little too hard at the “Property of Bart Simpson” joke for Peter Parker, but whenever someone quotes The Simpsons, it just cracks me up
So here’s two fun facts about Andrew Garfield, if any of you guys are Doctor Who fans, you’ll recognise him from series 3 of Doctor Who “Evolution of the Daley’s” and the second episode, and he has dual citizenship of US and UK making him the second SpiderMan who’s British(well considered I guess),Tom Holland is also British. I mean I don’t know about the voice actors for any cartoons, but for the live action ones I mean
Geo Hernandez FACTS 🙌🏾💯. By the time the third movie came out and I heard Mary Jane scream I was like, “IGHT Bitch. That’s enough screaming. This is the third movie and it’s getting old.” Lol 💯
Well yeah cuz that’s her character. A brainy student who could match Peter on an intellectual level. People are constantly bitching about Mary Jane being a damsel in distress in the Raimi films, when they forget that Mary was always that way. She’s a model in the comics for crying out loud. WTF do you want her to do?
@@AlexTheOilersFan lmao, funny that you mention that ... in the comics gwen was the mean girl. Mary Jane was the fuxking badass. That is partly why they killed gwen stacy
Thoughts: This was the first Spider-Man movie I saw in theatres! I was a little late to the showing but I found the film enjoyable at the time! Did not know it was hated tho! Next week the epic conclusion!
I actually like the change to "with great power comes great responsibility". In a world of superheroes like the comics that line doesn't feel out of place, but as far as we've seen in this world, Spider-man is the only hero we know about. Uncle Ben's line in this movie feels more appropriate for the setting. In the Raimi movies it felt awkward and really clunkily forced in, even when I was younger I thought it felt really out of place.
*"Next week: The worst Spiderman movie ever made"* So... 1977 or TAS2? Edit: To all the people saying FFH, come on guys, Doug liked it, even more than Homecoming... and at least FFH (and Homecoming) don't have the exact same level of infamy that TAS2 has
This is still one of my most favorite Spider-Man films. Half the hate it got was purely because people couldn't take off their rose-tinted nostalgia glasses they had for the Rammi films, when if anything it felt like everything I felt was missing from those films. I really do hope those rumors about a live-action Spider-verse with all three cinematic Spider-Men actors turns out to be true, because I would love an excuse to see Andrew Garfield return as Spider-Man, even if it's not entirely his movie. Hell, I REALLY want to see how Toby, Andrew, and Tom's characters interact with each other, I feel like there's a ton of possibilities with such diverse versions of the same character. There's something to love from each era and iteration of the Web-head, and this era is no exception.
I would love to see a movie rendition of Shattered Dimensions (Game). Tobey as 616 Peter, Andrew as Ultimate Peter, Cage as Noir, and someone else as 2199.
You know how life can have moments that just line up too good? I’m watching this near the living room, and my mother danced to the tune of a jeans commercial, and I thought, wtf, then suddenly, 10:29, WOT.
"I think Garfield is a great Spiderman." - Nostalgia Critic 2020 Edit: For those of you ideots that didn't get the joke, I am referring to Garfield the cat and how funny it would be if NC thought he would be a good Spiderman.
Honesty, I don’t remember the rami films because I was too young and when the Amazing Spiderman came out I went to the theater to watch it and loved it.
@@JurassicReptile That's like saying the red and black Spider-Man suit didn't look good which was why we see more red and blue Spider-Man even though that style's been iconic in it's own right. Here's a rundown of the Peter Parkers over the years: Tom Holland - best OVERALL Spider-Man AND Peter Parker Andrew Garfield: best SPIDER-MAN not so good Peter Parker Toby Maguire: best PETER PARKER not so good Spider-Man Holland totally showcases the humor and seriousness of Spider-Man, he's got the right age, he's both a loner and someone willing to work with a group, and my god he's so quippy I love it. He's definitely getting into the groove of being Spider-Man and I can't wait to see where he goes from where they left him off. Garfield was a GREAT Spider-Man, they nailed his sense of humor but he just wasn't the best Peter Parker. Maguire was a great Peter-nerdy, outsider, overall good guy, but as Spider-Man was too serious. A big thing about Spidey IS his sense of humor and you have to get that right otherwise it's just what's the point. The reason why Spider-Man is so popular is his personality, but people need to remember that it's not just Spider-Man to write for but Peter Parker too. So far the MCU has the best of both worlds.
"As far as I know, transitioning from revenge to crime fighting is not part of the Spider-Man origin story..." What....That’s...literally a defining aspect of his origin. How did he think he found out he was responsible for Ben’s death?
True, except it was done badly in this version. He never comes face to face with Ben's killer and makes that crucial choice to capture him, realizing his mistake. He just kind of forgets about it and moves on to the next thing.
Actually, in the first comic, he didn't find out it was the same guy until the last few panels. He was just going after the killer for a moment and when he took off the mask, he realized it was the same guy and embraced the role of Spiderman as the story closed.
@@anthonypiti1767 that's what makes this version more meaning full. He never comes face to face with the killer because he doesn't care anymore. The talk with captain Stacy at dinner made Peter realize that he's not a hero, he's a vengeful creep. Once he saved that kid, he realized what his purpose was, to stop the next uncle Ben situation from happening to anyone else. He can't change the past but he can change the future. That is Spider-Man
@@dbzking02 in the final cut lizard character is bullshit, the story is a mess and there's no plot the laboratory connects all the dots together. that's my biggest problem with the movie, i liked everything else

I agree. Garfield's Spider-Man didn't have a rich dad make his suit for him. He made his own tech and became his own hero. Plus, he's the only SM who actually quips like Spider-Man.

@@burritobrosvideos8060 I'm being intentionally impartial, the Amazing Spider-Man movies were always a bit weird to me, like they were trying too hard to be their own thing...which is weird because I'm typically annoyed by how little people deviant from the "normal" Spider-man story. This was...something that I think needed to be made at the time in order to act as a buffer and make mistakes that others could learn from. I liked it at the time, but in hindsight it actually seems below average to me, since it's got such a faded style to it, it's almost like it's trying to stand out by not standing out at all. It feels like it had a lot of the fun sucked out of it, and in an attempt to avoid being campy, it lost a lot of the nuance of the comics. My opinions can differ by what day it is and what mood I'm in, but my "objective" view of it is that it's a necessary phase to lead to new growth. For every rise, there's a crash, and for every crash, there's a return, these two movies served as a short return after Rami's 3rd movie was below average, so an average movie was an "improvement" that needed to happen, then some god awful needed to happen before something amazing, and that's how we ended up with this movie's sequel. It's a very abstract pattern that I've noticed with the media of long-living characters like those from comics. But anyways, none of that really matters, you seem to care more than I do to reply to a dead comment. :/
When the movie came out I remember not liking it very much and thinking it was kinda bland.. Over time however I did started warming up to it. But! It doesn't change the fact that this movie was obviously edited to death, just look at the ridiculous amount of important deleted scenes and alternate scenes, which are 10 times better then what we got, not to mention the stuff from the teasers and trailers..very frustrating! It was only a taste for what would happen later.. So...release the webb cut?

Brandon Spain I wish we got the full goblin transformation with the hell fire along with it. That would be cool

Not to mention, we actually see how he created it rather than just “this is what I want my suit to look like, and here it is!”
I always wondered that, too. The closest I've heard to a reason why it sucks is that it "looks like deflated basketball". Okay... and?
It's fine if people say they just don't like the way it looks, but they don't; they talk like this suit is objectively garbage and only crazy people like it

Tom Holland - best OVERALL Spider-Man AND Peter Parker
Andrew Garfield: best SPIDER-MAN not so good Peter Parker
Toby Maguire: best PETER PARKER not so good Spider-Man
Holland totally showcases the humor and seriousness of Spider-Man, he's got the right age, he's both a loner and someone willing to work with a group, and my god he's so quippy I love it.
Agreed 100%
Holland lacks as Spider-Man
You'd best be prepared for far more replies than you'd ever want
I agree.
Holland isn't Spider-Man, he's Spider-Wuss.
"As far as I know, transitioning from revenge to crime fighting is not part of the Spider-Man origin story..."
What....That’s...literally a defining aspect of his origin.
That is Spider-Man
Remember when Doug said that TASM series was better than the OG trilogy?? Even TASM2, I do, it was funny
Ryan's Channel He isn’t.

@@-Lola. the amazing Spider-Man 1&2 are way better movies than homecoming and far from home
Clash I can agree with that.
Clash Interesting, everything you just said was wrong
I actually liked this movie, despite some of the dumb moments/plot conveniences.
dbzking02 this is my favorite one
they cut the most important plot points
check deleted material it makes it better
@@tsartomato I've seen it. Still doesn't completely change the movie.
@@dbzking02 in the final cut lizard character is bullshit, the story is a mess and there's no plot

6:42 I just realized that outline looks like Kevin Bacon was suppose to play Norman Osborn. God now I'm wondering what that would have been like!!!!
Dylan Hawkins well I thought that the man in the shadow was the real Norman Osborn
He was Sebastian Shaw in X-Men First Class
Nico Farles corret
18:17 Even though there are plenty of buildings, which of course, are bigger targets for web swinging.
Thumbs up for the "Narf!" bit. I genuinely busted out laughing.
Was not expecting that at all!!!😂😂
That doug in the thumbnail is cursed beyond comprehension
“Tell Emilio I still know he exists” 😂 Haha that was pretty funny.
Oh, THAT’S what he said. I thought Doug was making some sly reference to “The Departed” (saying something about “Leo DiCaprio’s undercover cop still exists”).
Titanguy Ooh that is clever!
Aight, hot take;
Andrew Garfield Spider-Man > Tom Holland Spider-Man
With you bro
I agree. Garfield's Spider-Man didn't have a rich dad make his suit for him. He made his own tech and became his own hero. Plus, he's the only SM who actually quips like Spider-Man.
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man: A talkative quipster.
Tobey Mcguire's Spider-Man: Quips during the few instances he actually talks.
Tom Holland: Not a quipster just really talkative.
@Kryptoskillet I'm speaking the truth, dude. Not my fault you can't handle it.
@@superstarultra28 the only tech that Garfield made was the web shooters.. which Spider-Tom made in homecoming.. also just because he didn’t make the suit doesn’t mean he “isn’t Spider-Man” that’s just stupid, Peter making his own costume is kinda unrealistic.

Nostalgia Critic: Calls Amazing Spider-Man a good movie
Cosmonaut Variety Hour: "So you have chosen...death."
To be fair, he did say "in my opinion" before he said that.
Cosmonaut is a hack.
@@prufan I feel like I should disagree but I'm failing to find an argument
Berenger Burkhart but it is good
Toby Maguire: 60s Spider-man
Andrew Garfield: 90s Spider-man
Tom Holland: Disney Channel Spider-man
Not bad for me I compared them to Star Wars the original are basically like the 70s The Amazing Spider-Man movies are the prequels and the Mcu spiderman movies are the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 Nah man, the MCU Spider-Man movies are actually good and shouldn't be compared to the complete dumpsterfire that is the the Star Wars sequels.
I couldn't agree more with this. I know unpopular opinion but I love MCU Spiderman in the group movies but his own, no. It seems like a Disney film more than a Spiderman film. All the characters have changed. I miss the connection to something in the comics. Nothing wrong with liking the MCU Spiderman but as soon as another franchise comes out that is live action I think people would forget about him.
@@jesuschild07able I personally think Tom Holland is the best live-action Spider-Man we've had out of all of them. And there's plenty of connections to the comics, but MCU Spidey takes a lot more from Ultimate, than from the original universe.
Maguire - 616
Garfield - Ultimate
Holland - White Miles Morales
lol

This is why Flash is one of my fav bully type characters, moments like this where he sympathizes with Peter, and when he’s Agent Venom (and by this time, him and Peter have made up) I might use this idea of him sympathizing with Peter in a stop motion movie someday🤔
12:09 "He realises he'll need to hide his identity after being inspired by a picture of Strong Bad."

I agree with Nostalgia Critic, I thought The Amazing Spider-Man was a good film
Yeah
Honestly, yeah, it's a good movie...but that being said, I completely forgot everything about it except that it's the one with Gwen Stacy and the Lizard.
I remember almost everything from the Toby Maguire universe though.
Its not a good movie
@@burritobrosvideos8060 It's subjective, but I say it's a good movie because it's well put together on a technical level.
@@InkyDustMan being technical doesn't make a movie good. You need to have a good plot, acting, and script. Its an average movie at best
@@InkyDustMan sure, its subjective. If you watch yms on the amazing spider man movie, he makes a good argument. Id go through some of them but, I don't really care. Who cares if a movie is technical, if you say every technical movie is good you're going to get a bunch of average technical movies
Don't start that.
@@thelastjedi3259 I'm with him. Every Director should have their cut of the movie out there with no studio interference. Even assholes like Rian Johnson.
@@northwindkey If you think he's an asshole that's fine, but I personally despise the ReLeAsE tHe SnYdEr CuT Stuff.
@@thelastjedi3259 Why? Snyder is a nice person by testimony of everyone that has met him, his cut of the movie was completed (That's a fact for the record), and WB was scummy enough to use his own daughter's suicide as an excuse to push him out.
Why shouldn't his cut be available? Nobody would force you to watch it. It works for the people who like his films, and if you're a respectful person you'd be happy for them. I hate Age of Ultron, but if there was a Joss Whedon director's cut of it that people wanted releases, I'd jump right in. All directors, all artists deserve respect.
Plus, it'd get us all to shut up. Wouldn't you like that?
@@northwindkey True....
Special shout out to James Horner’s score. This is a great superhero film score. Triumph, filled with awe, emotionally deep, and energetic. I thought Danny Elfman’s Spider-Man score could not be topped...I was thrilled to be wrong.
I’m so glad to see someone give the soundtrack some credit, it’s got to be one of my favourite soundtracks
Yeah Horner’s score was great, but Elfman’s was more memorable in my opinion. Again that doesn’t mean Horner’s was bad or anything, not even close, but I’ll go to my grave with Elfman’s score drilled in my head.

Peter's costume is like this because he is just starting out as Spider-Man.
In part 2 it is much more like one we are used to seeing.

Dr Connor's) "I want to create a world without weakness"
Way to make a genius scientist sound like Hitler
Not really. He wants to make a world without weakness through curing genetic disorders and injuries. That's the opposite of Hitler.
That's a medical utopia philosophy, wherein things that cause human suffering are eliminated through medical advances. Hitler wanted to kill everyone who didn't fit his vision, viewing human suffering as a good, or at best irrelevant.
