Thanks so much for this detailed explanation. I took Dr. Westman's Keto Made Simple online course in October and have followed the plan for six weeks. I was nervous about what might happen with my cholesterol because it has never been great. I had my semiannual bloodwork done on Monday and was anxious about the results. Got my results last night and was absolutely thrilled! Best results I have had in the last 10 years. Additionally, my arthritis pain and swelling are gone! I really enjoy your channel and appreciate the information that is keeping me motivated.
Hi Dr. Becky! Have you or can you do a video on Lp(a). There doesn't seem to be a good treatment for lowering it in the body, and doctors don't seem to know much about it, yet it is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular issues. Thank you!
I'm on Social Security and Medicare. I get ONE blood test & physical a year and it is bare bones. It's HDL, LDL, cholesterol and glucose (your sugar that second in time). I told my doctor "I fast" and she said "why would do that?".
It's never easy. I appreciate understanding about Chloresterol, but we also need a cookbook just to tell us what NOT to eat, or what to eat. Many of us need things in black & white. I already know, to stay away from white flower, and more plainly; daily consumption, below 50 grams of rice, potatoes, pasta, bread....read your labels. Starches are my enemy.
This video was so, so helpful! Thank you so much for sharing it. I just got my lipid panel, and my LDL is high. But everything else was fantastic. My triglycerides are wonderful. My HDL is wonderful. I will be pursuing a NMR lipid protein Blood test to check my particle size. Thank you so much for this information! I’m hoping if I cut out red meat and switch to non-dairy creamers in my coffee and tea that maybe that might help lower my LDL. I’ve watched you for years, and love your channel! :)
If only our doctors kept up with the new information. They have a knee-jerk reaction of skipping over the significant positive changes in our bloodwork and writing a statin rx, even after my husband reminds them that he developed kidney damage on statins. A statin may or may not prevent a possible stroke, but it most likely will send him back to the renal specialist.
I'm sure this comment will be deleted, but I'm hoping you will address the recently discovered maltodextrin levels in the flavored LMNT products. (I believe you've even done a video in the past warning about hidden maltodextrin additives in other food and beverages.) I've personally learned SO much from your videos over the last several years, and my own health has been improved greatly by taking your advice, but I think continuing to advertise and be sponsored by LMNT without at least addressing this issue damages your credibility and reputation.
Hi Chermonfils, I have talked with the company. LMNT uses approximately 1/10th of a teaspoon of maltodextrin in their flavored drink mixes. It is not used in LMNT Sparkling or the Raw Unflavored drink mix. It’s not included on their labels because it’s a flavor carrier rather than an added ingredient. Flavor carriers help the powder dissolve in water. I drink it everyday without concern.
Thank you for explaining what my numbers mean. My doc...unfortunately just prescribed meds. I wonder how these correlate with someone that is menopausal or peri/post menopausal?
Those who have cholesterol after a keto diet are metabolically ill. Whatever diet they will follow, after a while they will notice side effects. It is true after switching from carb to fat, people feel better but it is just a matter of time and the fat will be an issue (high cholesterol) and vice versa. Simply, the body can't deal neither with carbs, fat nor protein. The solution is a billion dollar value. But first what cause the deregulation of metabolism? If anybody is on keto and haven't high cholesterol then she or he can just eat carb. But most people are on keto because they are metabolically ill and that will not help on long term unfortunately.
Cholesterol is not a bad in particular high cholesterol. Proven by medical science does not, never did create heart disease. Sugar is the killer and how that interacts with cholesterol. Americans consume more of it thus higher incidence heart disease. That undeniable literature is on the web for us. I woildn't exspect practioners to change their views of course. It 8s truth for anyone that peeks at it.
Instead of an NMR test, why not just test for the amount of Small Dense LDL present in the blood. If it's under 50 mg/dL, you're probably fine as long as triglycerides are also under 100 mg/dL as well

Please test with your continuous glucose monitor your precious LMNT. I would love to see the results. And do them with all the different flavors.

Dr Becky. Can menopause make total cholesterol and LDL levels rise?
