Easily my favorite episode so far. So emotional and beautiful, Pedro nailed it with his performance and the fresh take on Joel was so perfect. I’ve got nothing but praise and tears for these last two episodes. Also congratulations on the baby!
Loved episodes 4 & 5, thought episode 6 was a home run, a perfect character breakdown of Joel’s character, this show is a perfect adaptation in my eyes.
Hey man! I don't usually comment but I just want to say great video, you are always providing amazing content for us TLOU/PlayStation fans and congrats on the baby!
This episode was amazing. There was a lot of new stuff that I really enjoyed. We got to see Ellie find out about what happened to Sarah. It was truly heartbreaking. I thought Tommys performance was great at the start but now Tommy is one of my favourite characters in the show. It was a great change to make Tommy a father because it added a new conflict. Jackson was amazing and looked straight out of Part 2. It made sense why Maria would be distrustful of Joel. It also made sense why Joel would have panic attacks it was a very real version of grief. Joel broke down in front of Tommy and it made me cry so much. He had so much guilt. The argument scene was as emotional as it was in the game. It still hit hard. There was a lot of great comedy at the start of the episode that made me laugh. The path a new beginning scene was perfect. Joel and Ellie had no secrets then and they were at their happiest. Episode 6 is probably my favourite episode in the show. I can’t wait to watch episode 7.
I'm glad you brought this up, because the music was also pretty much my only gripe about that ranch scene. In the game it flows just perfectly with the emotion in the scene, whereas I didn't feel it as much in this instance. But the rest of the scene, with the dialogue, the performances, and the cinematography was top notch.
I really think that the reason the change to the joel injury scene was because it will be more impactful in the end , cause in the game the whole point of human and infected enemies was to instill fear to the player , and scenes like the bloater in ep 5 would do the same to the passive audience . If they make the show such that joel and ellie just tear through like 150 infected and 100 hunters , it would become redundant and would be less impactful ..it makes the world less believable like if an old man and a little girl could just tear apart 150 infected and 100 humans , they show like why the world fell apart like it did , you get it?
There shouldn't be as much as in the games, but there should be more. Like in Joel and Ellie had to fight like even 5 guys, Joel shoots one, then throws a molotov, Elllie shoots one, Joel fights one with a baseball bat that breaks then he fights with his fists, and THEN he gets stabbed. Just have more action and tension, instead of sneaking away and only fighting ONE guy and then escaping. In the games it's emotionally gut wrenching and stressful when Ellie has to carry Joel and help get him out as he's bleeding out, in the game he just gets on the horse and they flee. It just isn't the same
Hey, congratulations man. I was wondering what happened to you, glad to hear that you were just taking time off to take care of your wife and the newest member of your family. I thought episode 6 was okay, but I felt that fight between Joel and that Hunter was down played and felt anti-climatic. 😕
I also don't like in episode 5 how they just cut out the whole breaking through the gate and sewer tunnels sections from the game and jump right ahead to they're out on the other side. And also how Kathleen finds out where he is and brings their entire fucking army with her. I get she wanted revenge, but that was literally only done so the big action scene could happen, it doesn't really make sense. And who even was that old guy shooting at them? Was he part of that group or just alone up there? It isn't really explained, that whole army just teleports to that town. And it was hilarious when Henry and Sam tried to run away and they just got shot at and came back in 5 seconds 🤣. In the game there's a whole element to Henry ditching Joel, Ellie jumping down to stick with him, them running away, her conquering her fear of drowning and making the choice to jump in the river, and Henry saving them, and all of that's completely gone. That whole arc of betrayal and trust and what would you do in that situation. I don't get why people are raving about show Henry and Sam so much when so many of their defining moments are missing and they have a different backstory
I agree, it was a very good episode. I am desperately trying to lose the ‘comparison’ mindset between game and tv series; because I think its the little things that annoy me. I absolutely love the game. I understand how the series writers have to expand storyline but why include a silly little line like ……….’house of worship, multi faith’. Silly ‘inclusive’ statement. I found Tommy’s wife to be very annoying; not good casting in my opinion. However, the growth in the relationship between Joel and Ellie, which I found to be the most and touching aspect of the game is being ‘transposed’ in a very powerful and believable way. I know that seems a bit ‘nit-picky’ but I can’t help it.
I disagree. In the games it does a better job of subtlety and subtext. Joel is intentionally cold and emotionless so that when he finally does break down in emotion when he nearly loses Ellie, it has such an emotional weight and impact, when he hugs her, comforts her, calls her "baby girl". So for Joel in the show to get all emotional and admit all his fears and feelings, and make it more about him being too old to keep her safe and not wanting to lose her, it makes less sense for the character to me. But they have made intentional changes to Joel's character to make him more vulnerable and almost "weaker". Because the show is so focused on drama not action, it barely adapts any of the violent action from the game, all the fighting gameplay sections or even specific iconic encounters are absent, and Joel struggles killing people and infected more than in the game. Obviously I know it'd be unrealistic and worse story and pacing wise to adapt all the encounters and have Joel just butcher his way through 100 enemies like a mad man, but there is so a lack that the world doesn't feel as dangerous and cruel, and Joel feels like a much softer version of himself that, despite his tough exterior, really feels the weight of every life he takes, whereas in the game he's a violent badass who gives zero fucks. This all ties in with that difference characterisation. And in the game, Joel just wants to push Ellie away before he grows more attached, and it was always his intention to hand her off to Tommy to take her to the Fireflies, to complete the mission. And he frames it as him and a few of his guys being more capable and equipped to get her there, and that they have had too many close calls around, but you can tell that the real reason that he doesn't admit to Ellie and can't admit to himself is that he does really care about her and fears losing her like he lost his daughter. The scene with Ellie mostly plays out the same, even though she didn't run away, but the circumstances around it and what he says to Tommy, really changes the dynamic of his character and his relationship with Ellie and Tommy. In the game he is pissed off when Tommy refuses to take Ellie off his hands and makes it about paying him back for everything he did to keep them alive, but in the show he's spilling his guts and crying over not being able to do this and Tommy takes sympathy on him, unlike in the game where... I'm not entirely sure what the reason is Tommy changes his mind, or Joel to be honest... but I guess it's just them coming to the realisation of how the feel. Overall I just think the game did a better job than the show of these critical character development moments because the two are written differently, and I'm not too keen of the changes they've made. I feel like it's mostly because of the different mediums, and it is more of an opportunity to give an emotional and dramatic performance and Pedro to act his ass off than being faithful to the games. It's like episode 3, where it's obviously completely different to the game, but it was so well written and acted that it was still enjoyable. But I don't think it was better, and I don't even think it's worse like it's bad, it's just different and I'll always prefer the way the game did things
