The new paint looks so good! // Marty's WRX STI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 чер 2020
- To paint a car you have to strip everything off it, it's a huge job! Once it's painted you then have to put it all back together and that can be even harder still. In this episode we get the WRX (STI) back from the paint shop and set about returning it to it's former glory.

You guy are awesome
Hey the rear wheel of that bike there from 15:43 was moving a bit. Just a little concerned 🤣👻
Its a wrx with sti trim or wrx sti
I need those Part numbers for those $13 clips, please. lol.
Makes me nervous everytime you guys swing struts around the new paint, I'm like ahhhhhh watch the paint!!
New Paint is soooooo EXPENSIVE! I've needed to paint my G35 for like 6 years. It's just so damn expensive
Yes thinking the same. Maybe they were just trying to get a few authentic marks to go with the orange peel look.
came here to say the same thing! im sure it wasn't as close as it looked
That's exactly what I was about to write. Marty had me holding my breath while he was swinging his strut about and leaning in to read the milage.. Forget the milage.. GET THE FCUK AWAY FROM THE CAR 🤪😳😤😳😠🤬 HAHA 👍
Was stressing me out too!
Did everyone else flinch when they were swinging around the old shocks near the paint 🤔🤗
7:49 That was such a cool shot, good job lads!
Ghost in the shed. The mountain bike tire spun on it’s own and the bike shook towards the end of the video
I thought I was the only one who noticed...
i was gonna comment about it, but you seem to be ahead of me.
I saw it too and scrolled down to see if anyone else had noticed.
I have no clue why it did that other than there was someone on the other side of the wall (another garage?) or it is an electric bike and had some current going through it
@15:40 I caught that too. Is the shed haunted?
“We’re getting through the bags” We see you 👀👀
Thought the same thing, hahaha

15:41 who's spinning the wheel? hmmm
The ghosts of nuggets past
I was gonna post the same thing. Hahaha
@@chandlerbraaten847 lmfao me too
Ahh h### no!!!
I've seen some other stuff move around the shop before....
Love the husquaberg in the background 👌
You mean the Husaberg? Haha
@@valetmate1125 half Husqvarna and half husaberg equals husquaberg...i guess?😂
Had to rewatch this series now that I have bought my own STI Type R! So fun to follow the build as I build mine
This is my favorite year for the Impreza. Both the wagon and coupe are so cool looking.
I love this year as well but the Bugeyes are number one for me
So strange that people are liking the bugeyes these days. Back when they first came out everybody hated them.
I agree
Yes they look so good
When you mean wagon, you’re referring to the Levorg right?
15:41 That damn Nugget Ghost is back!
I was wondering what was going on with the bike 😂
as someone who does suspension for a living it makes me happy to see these guys installing the same struts as the ones i recommend to all my customers and install on my own vehicles.
You were shockingly casual with sharp and heavy metal bits like coil overs and tools around that flawless and fresh paint job.
Marty: i have an sti
Moog: wrx
Marty: Actually its Chlamydia
@21 Labs refer to precious videos for this comment
@Mechanick refer to precious videos for this comment
I'd rather have a WRX than that disease you get from feckong Koalas
The OG STI!
There's only one way to apply trim pieces: "mit schmackes"
i love how they spelled it shmackus, because that will get the best pronounciation out of a englishspeaker who reads it.
@@PatchworkLeyn Can't even be mad at this...
@@PatchworkLeyn Indeed. Pretty spot on.
Correctly "Mit Schmackes!"
This may be my new favourite episode of MCM. Second best Subie, first best colour, epic music, and clean reassembly. Don't know why, but I love fiddly bits like this.
Its always therapeutic taking apart and reassembling cars
It's "Mit Schmackes" pretty common for certain areas in Germany and just means with proper force
Marty: Luckily for us its one of the easiest cars out there for removing struts. Meanwhile Moog is hanging on the end of a 2m long breaker bar to undo the nuts haha.
Over tightened when springs were put in the first time most likely
@@mightycarmods keep telling that to yourself, it might become true!
@@SoulTouchMusic93 if it was done up with a big impact wrench it most likely was
"easiest" is refereed to as simple, lack of complexity.
@@mightycarmods guy installing maybe gave it one too many ugga duggas.
The thing we love about MCM is that they don't do 1960-70 us cars. Like Discovery channel crap. Only jdm and Europe. Keep it up
Your painter has some amazing skills. It takes some serious prep work to work up to a shine like that. Very few painters can spray a “sanded and buffed” shine out of the gun.
The b
ike wheel moves by itself when they took the last strut out
Organization is the best mod
that's not a mod though
Marty working on a subie, Moog talking bout getting some tofu, some real oldschool mcm feels
Sung is a real pro (Hope I spelled that right). Bless all in one bodyman painters like him, truly a skill and a half.
MY HEART NEARLY EXPLODED when you removed one of those struts and just clipped the bottom of one of the fenders!!!!!
Seriously though this is so epic, you guys are always doing these old cars justice and i am beyond excited to see the STI whipping around a track WITHOUT immoblising!
13:08 That side skirt looks like it's not doing so hot.
You guys are just about giving me a heart attack swinging those old struts around the brand new paintwork!! 🤣🤣🤣
This channel has litterally been keeping me sane throughout lockdown here in the UK. It’s provided me with a much needed distraction and a focus to start improving my own car in what has been a hard time outside of all the COVID stuff.
So exciting! There's just something special about putting it all back together after fresh paint. Can't wait to do it with my car!
I had the exact same husaberg te 450 with the 90° engine, good bit of kit
I still have a 2011 Husaberg FE 390.
Best colour and paint job I've seen in a while. What happens in Broken Hill, stays in Broken Hill! 😂
Hey marty, those little vents on the left and right of the bonnet @7:53, they have those little metal sheilds on the inside. Subaru intended you you to chose if you wanted the sheilds in place or not, they called then "Winter sheilds", so you'd slap em in for the wet season, then take em out for the hot season for dat extra ventilation.
Great tip, thanks!
Love how moog keeps calling it a WRX, as a fellow STI owner it hurts deep :D
I paid an extra $8k for those STI badges! (and Brembos, and DCCD, and SI drive...)
its a typer RRRRRRRRRR
Can't like this video enough. 1st gen STI is one of my favorite cars in the world. I miss mine 😔
second*
You're a lucky man Marty. Iconic car that looks incredible. Superb paint job by Trung.
Oh, damn. Seeing that roll in was glorious
I recently had my 03 mustang repainted and the process of reassembling took about a few days because of time and extra body kit stuff. Watching this is giving me war flashbacks lol
Nice Berg in the background there :)
At 15.43 the mountain bike in the background starts moving by itself
I literally love how Marty speaks. Especially about the lowered springs and struts and coilovers. I preach exactly what he says EVERY DAY in the vehicle forums I'm in and get flamed for it because "cOiLoVeRs R aLwAyS bEtTeR" ... nope. Thank you for finally confirming my views made from personal experience.
10:07 Things I said in my 20s :D
Is your place haunted? 15:40 the rear wheel on the MTB moves?
A stool moved on its own a few episode back also so possibly
Pretty much every vid in the shop there's some sort of paranormal activity shit going on in the background
just another easter egg
And a box fell over a few months back
also an engine hoist in a previous vid moved across the back of the shop. some lumber falling. got some ghosts down unda. has me analyzing all the videos lol
Always warms the heart seeing a couple of boys go through a few bags.
Damn guys! Now I can't think about anything else than the white, blue and yellow moose in the back there! You sure are people of culture as well!
6:36 8:56 please start releasing your b roll music, there's heaps of tunes in your other videos i like as well, i promise I'll buy it.
I neadddd thee 8:56 song its sooo good
14:36 i would buy that
7:45 "not frangers" 😂
Im guessing thats aussie slang for condoms?
such a weird word. never heard it before. won't soon forget.
That Mr.Chong guy or whatever his name is (sorry I never really understood them when they said it) seems super respectful. At the beginning of the video when they roll the STI in he's just walking around with his hands behind his back. He almost seems like he doesn't want any time on the camera. Almost like he wants to be the "guy behind the scenes" type. Props to him!
You guys were putting that car back together like you were making love with a true loved one, not only doing it right but doing it with passion.
1:31 "And hopefully by the end of the day that looks like a WRX again"
lol good catch
I laughed at the beginning when someone honked the horn and Moog with a straight face just goes "beep beep beep, beep beep Beep". Funny shit
Spelled Schmackes, spoken similar to „shmuck-es“ is old german slang for a continuous increasing force. If you hit a nail with a hammer you can just do it 2 or 3 times or you do it right just once with Schmackes... 😉
Thanks again for rescuing this interesting and beautiful car and thanks a lot for showing this hottie! 🥰
I recently repainted my entire project car and I am currently assembling everything and making the last finishing touches including some electrical work. Amazing how a turd that I began working on back in Mid November 2019 is now a polished nice ride that just makes fun to drive. So this video feels relatable af for me :D
Why do struts always come in a damaged box? One of the universes great mysteries...
Because they were usually the wrong strut that was delivered to someone else first. That was always my experience back when I was a mechanic anyway.
Moog: “that was info no one needed”
Marty, loudly: “look at the paint”
This was incredibly satisfying to watch gents. Thanks
Thanks man!
If you want to lower it and maintain good suspension geometry, super highly recommend the bump steer correction (tie rod ends) and roll centre adjust (ball joint extension) kit for them. Also the castor correction lca bushes as well. Love the Sti 💙
"getting through the bags" - Aussies will understand
Rack city bra
Na I got that too 😂 UK
When is the focus RS getting the golf r treatment? Been a while still waiting for it. No one in Australia has gone crazy with the RS before so why not ey
EDIT: give this a comment or a like so they can see it👌
@ 15:42 the mountain bike tire moves. Guess they do have a ghost in their shop.
My heart skips a beat every time i see you "juggle" one of those old struts near that beautiful fresh paint! knowing my luck i would always swap the struts before spray painting a car.
Ahoy Notification Squad! I’m NEVER normally this early on new vids! 😂
same here lol
Watching this is like therapy
Whoa! Is that a 70° slant husaberg in the background? Awesome!
The last of the true Bergs before they were molested by the orange plague.
"Getting through the baggies like there's no tomorrow" 😏😏
Anybody gonna mention the absolutely destroyed side skirt at 13:03
I was tripping on the reflection on the front bumper at 11:43 thought it was a huge scratch!
Reflection of Ryobi tool
Oh man, that paint job is amaze-balls.
I'm getting anxious seeing Marty swinging those shocks near that new paint job
send one of the clips out to a 3d printer. make a few hundred and sell them for $5 each
Those clips find someone with a 3D printer that knows how to use it and they can pump them out..
I thought about it, but as far as my tests went, 3d printing does not produce a result that "flex" enough for plastic fasteners, even with ABS. Maybe someone more competent than me will be more successful :/
A bit like those 3D printed bikes we were promised were going to be manufactured in Aus.
10:25 the trims along the windscreen, if you’re talking about the side moulds, they are not glued in from factory, they are meant to have clips holding them on. whoever replaced the windscreen must have broke the clips and not cared to replace them
A beautiful and calming visual.
Last time I came this early, my girlfriend left me
that's good for you. If she is that shallow, you can do much better
When you see Moogs white beard you realize you’re getting old dam
Moog is 41 and Marty is 44
And i didn't know untill i looked it up lol, i thought they were in there 30's 😂😂😂
Tuff RACING AUS wait what the hell? Marty is not older than Moog!
Edit... he is... and how the hell is that possible, I thought for sure he was like 10 years younger than Moog
Sound engineering is a good gig. Clearly these guys lead really balanced and rich lifestyles so that obviously helps
@@tuffracingaus9639 if you search up on Google Moog was born in 1978. I also worked out that Marty was born around 1984 from stuff mentioned in a few of their youtube videos.
@@aidenh2563 Moog is younger
I come here for the great innuendo.
The car stuff is neat too.
The strut and spring refit/upgrade is always what I recommend to people when asked, "What mod should I do first?" OEM or super close to OEM replacement parts on suspension, steering, driveline. It is amazing how tight and clean handling a car will be even back to NEW factory spec. After that, I suggest upgrading/adjusting to the individuals taste. No need to up the boost if the car has 150,000 miles on wear items. Your car will be more enjoyable and likely faster with fresh OEM bits.
Chong did some job painting that car Some Finish RESPECT
Great video 👍. Every time someone on the internet shows new painted cars it looks amazing. Every time I get car parts painted at some paintshop it comes back with faults in the paint
15:41 bike got possessed. 👀
I did a full suspension replacement on my 98 Impreza a few months back. Even the non-sporty models feel amazing to drive with fresh suspension. And those brackets for the brake hoses are definitely an inconvenience. It's pretty much the only time I've been working on an older Subaru and had a "Why would they do it this way?" moment.
You guys made me a car enthusiast back in 2009... im 18 now.
I think you should give the guy who painted the car just a little more airtime... he did an amazing job. I would use his business to do a car of mine after seeing this. 🤙
Thanks for great channel. 💫
An enjoyable installment of Slightly Car Mods.
Nice to see a Swedish Husaberg standing in the background 👌🏻
I love when people say "The engineers that made the car probably know how to make it handle". Unless you're buying a hypercar there's always room for improvement because they have to compromise between cost, manufacturing, and the various road laws wherever it's made since it's a mass produced model (even if it's a more rare 2door).
Congratulations the car is AMAZING!!!!!!!
Anxiety Level:1000 watching you guys casually holding those struts so close to the fresh paint and bodywork
I absolutely love your guys shows 100%, you Aussies are great!
Ahhhh painted parts on the floor!!
Your MAAAAAAAAD ✌️🤞✌️
Well Done Mates! I love seeing you guys work together. Fantastic chemistry, really great!
I just did the struts and a lift kit on my 01 forester! The suspension is practically identical. I used snips to get my brake lines loose on both the old and new ones and the bent them back into place to hold the lines properly. Looks "maaad" now finally after 2 whole months of waiting (and wheel scrubbing) for my lift kit in the mail
15:41 - The ghost of the shed returns.
Happy i have my new color corrected monitor to see that paint! Gorgeous.
Martin you waiving those struts around near the car was giving me heart palpitations!
I would suggest tearing off as much of the butyl tape off the rear tail lights/body and reapply new butyl and have a good amount of it. The tail lights are a common leak point with age.
Good tip!!
Dream car right there!! Beauty build.
It's cool to see KYB shocks being used. I got the same brand for my 90 Miata as OEM replacements.
I NEED TO SEE BEAUTY SHOTS OF THIS AND THE BRZ TOGETHER.
this was realy working on my nervs seeing you guys handle the shoks like that so close to the new paint job
14:19-14:26 Now this is a goodLooking MCM shirt!
