-------------------------------
Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition and disability which causes involuntary movements called tics. I use my platforms on social media such as TikTok, UA-cam and Instagram to advocate and raise awareness for the condition and show what it is like living with a disability as a teen in school.
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about tics, tic disorders and what its like to be a teen living with Tourette's syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and a seizure disorder (NEAD/NES).
I show what its like having tics and Tourettes in class and in school and college, vlog, and I also bake, do other challenges and answer all your questions in Q and A videos.
I am also an ambulatory wheelchair user so I show what life looks like using various mobility aids and how needs change from day to day!
I am also a musician! My newest release is my first single (original song) called "She's Mine" which is now available on all streaming services - I sing and play piano, guitar, ukulele and I write, produce, mix and master all my own songs and content myself!
Face palm, it's not an excuse it's an explanation. I have ADHD not tourette's but I've bee through similar experiences. And it's so frustrating and dehumanizing when someone uses their ignorance to punish you. I love seeing your experiences and appreciate you dedication. Thank you
It's horrible and I hate it. Especially when ADHD isn't just making you not do things, but it's making you feel like you can't do things to an extreme level, and that's much harder to explain, like motivation. I want to tell people that the reason I didn't do my work was because of motivation issues, and I have a lot of trouble trying to get myself to do things. They always say that I'm not trying hard enough. The only people that actually listen to me are my friends because they actually care. People don't know how dehumanizing it is for ADHD people when you invalidate their struggles just because it isn't a physical symptom and they don't take ADHD seriously. I swear, people always think that ADHD is a feeling and say "we all get a little ADD sometimes," it's like they don't know what it is and just think that if their a little hyper or distracted that's ADHD, and it isn't.
@@stormiiartyeah, exactly and when you're not diagnose yet, you don't even understand why you aren't able to do what everybody else do so easily and you believe it even more when people tell you that you're lazy and shits like that
Even difficult to know what you're doing is because of ADHD after diagnosis.
@roddyhendersonYou don’t have ADHD, so as someone who DOES have it, and has suffered in a public school setting from it; it’s not an excuse. At all. I didn’t decide to have ADHD and fail all my classes in elementary because I was just bored.
@roddyhendersonLetting one person that you dislike & don’t believe color your opinion of an entire disability & everyone who has it just isn’t it.
Not everyone who has it is like that one guy at your school who does.
Can empathise and relate, my 12 Yr daughter, who's autistic and is a selective mute, her PE teacher spent months telling her off and giving behaviour points and trying to give detentions because my daughter didn't respond to her when she spoke to her. She wrote her up as defiant and refusal to comply. We finally got a solution that doesn't involve that teacher but to this day that teacher believes my daughter was being defiant and refusing rather than not being physically able to speak at school.
My son is AuDHD and has speech impediments, meaning he can't speak normally and you need to actually focus on him to understand him. It also takes longer for him to form words and setences. It can take up to a minute or more between words. The amount of times I had to argue with not just his teachers, other adults and even his doctors that he is not intelectually disabled just because he doesn't reply. They still treat him like he's dumb, which makes things worse, because he certainly isn't.
@@SailorYukisorry that both of you deal with professional idiots
Some people don't believe in medical conditions, you just can't tell them.
Don't care I just won a ranked game
as someone in a school with behavior points they are all unreasonably strict and will give you behaviour points for literally everything!! Then they have the nerve to ask the parents whats going on at home why they are "acting up" 🙄 Coming from a secondary pupil.
don't worry it's not your fault and you're a wonderful girl and you're contained its too well continue like that 👍👍
Yes
no shit
@@theduck3764 dont be fucking rude
Please tell me the principle told her to lay off her and be a human .
I just want to say that, it just proves she isn’t aware of what your disability (Tourette’s Syndrome) is. She could have handled the situation better by admitting that she doesn’t know what Tourette’s is and spoke with you after class. It’s terrible that you had experienced such.
"Thats not an excuse"
"Your right its a disorder"
LOL
That is so terrible. Your teacher should understand your condition. It’s so annoying when people get mad at you for things you can’t control. I hope you didn’t get in trouble
ikr its just so unfair!
Thing is some people won't actually listen and believe because of others faking it unless it's actually proved by stuff.
That teacher needs to start learning. She needs to go back to school. . Because you can't. Teach a class and not expect people to have a disability in your classroom. It's impossible. Because there's always going to be one or two kids, either with ADHD, tourette's even though it's more rare, or even autism. Like you should know, the kids that are going to be in your class well before the class even starts. I mean, especially if they're registered for the office for students with disabilities. The teachers are required to know how to handle situations with people with disabilities. And it's not like this! I would give her a bad review. Because that's just not okay to say that tourette's is not a viable excuse. It is entirely a viable excuse.
Yeah the supply teacher should know, but she should have been told and had it explained to her. There loads of medical conditions that a teacher should know about and if they're a supply teacher they should be informed
It’s the same with any disability. If healthier people look for excuses and still don’t understand, it truly is because They Refuse to do the work of understanding and changing their behavior to accommodate empathy for others who are different than they are.
I don’t have Tourette’s but my brother does, and the way some teachers treat him is disgusting, I am so sorry for what you had to go through
I hope ur brother can find a better community! Some people are quite ignorant smh
exactly, i have a friend with tourette’s and she’s probably the most hated person at my school for little to no reason. some people just hate on people because they act different, but they can’t help it
@@meghan_. A teacher once told my brother that he’d chain his hands to the desk if he didn’t stop fidgeting.

It’s important for teachers to know student and if they can’t be understanding and supportive then they can be fired
that is horrible, similar thing happened with a supply and a kid at my elementary school. fortunately our class was incredibly supportive (we all basically fought that supply when she started threatening to report him for ticcing). the office did get involved, but they lectured her instead ❤ you are lovely for making these videos and raising awareness by the way! wish you the best
Reminder we need a part 3! 😄
You are so brave to share your story with the world. Thank you for your courage so that some may learn and others feel comfort knowing they are not alone.

Part 3 is here
My old boss said something similar when I had a sensory overload during a extra busy day, (I get frustrated and overwhelmed to tears in those moments) he took me aside and asked if I was okay, I told him I got overwhelmed because I couldn't process fast enough, he asked why I told him it's a part of dyslexia annnnnnd he told me he didn't believe in dyslexia however he was still nice enough to let me sit in his office till I calmed down
so why u complaining, he gave you what u needed in the end, he could've like given u a strike or something, but he gave u a break
Your earrings are so cute!❤
That's when you ask the teacher if she knows what tourrettes syndrome is. And that she might want to look it up before she gets fired and sued for discrimination. Discrimination lawyers would love your case.
finally i've been waiting...... "alright then keep your secrets"

Umm well ua-cam.com/users/shortsp7xXWgWHjyM?feature=share
had a very similar experience. a grown man told me to "work on it"
sir it's a medical condition-
I was reported by a substitute teacher for my hearing aid squeaking in the middle of class. She claimed I wasn't half deaf and that I was a liar.
thats terrible!! some subs and teachers need to learn that mistakes happen and that it wasnt your fault
I also have Tourettes, the same thing happened in 6th grade. I feel you
as a diabetic i can relate my substitues are always mad for me using my phone😂
Yeah I've heard many stories about stuff like that from people with diabetes, even stuff like if your blood sugars low and you need something to bring it up, teachers have taken it away because you're "eating in class"
It's just stupid sometimes.
Your eyes are magnificent! They’re so mesmerizing especially when you’re telling a story
Simp alert ⚠️

This happened to me in elementary school. I never talked, but I was a straight A student. In fact, my report card had A+ and A’s all through it, except for physical education, which I couldn’t tolerate.
I brought the report card home to my parents and I was always in trouble; not for the grades, but for the stupid comment the teacher made that I could’ve done better.
I’m a senior now and still wondering why that happened to me I even kept the report card and occasion show my friends how insane private school was. Even back then.
you cant leave us on a cliffhanger!! 😭😭😭
I’m so sorry for that behavior from that teacher 😢. You are so beautiful and amazing ❤❤❤❤❤
OMG this teacher is the definition of ignorant. So sorry you had to deal with that. Stay beautiful and stay you!
Hey, I just wanted to comment that I have a chronic tic disorder, and one time one of my math teachers snapped at me for ticcing, and everyone in the class literally stood up for me. The teacher apologized. It was actually great, and she understands now
And then we never got a part 3
We had a supply teacher one day when a classmate passed out and slid off her chair under the desk. The teacher thought she was taking the piss and was telling her off. Fortunately (or unfortunately in many ways) she was known for passing out and we all rushed to inform the teacher she was ill and needed help!
No way she did that. That's not fair!
Edit: tysm for the likes I've never had this many, I'm just trying to show Zara some support.
One time we watched a video in class of someone with Tourette’s syndrome getting bullied. After that video 2 girls in my class kept saying “oh yeah, I’m pretty sure I have Tourette’s because I randomly feel like doing something weird” I just stood there staring at her. She was going around telling everybody this when she did not have Tourette’s at all. She was telling random stories that were never mentioned in the 6 years I went to school with her.
This girl would also tell people not to give me food or talk to me and say I was spoiled AFTER she asked for food. I wouldn’t even ask for the food, my friend who always had home lunch would bring something for me. She truly annoyed me but I just tried to stay away from her.
I'm really sorry this happened to you. Some teachers really are the worst honestly. I'm born with cystic fibrosis and my lungs were very damaged by the time I was in high school. My science teacher knew, all the teachers did as I had special needs in class etc. She literally once told me to "control my coughing" as it was "interrupting the class" or to get out of the class to cough outside. I just looked at her like: 😶
That teacher should be expelled at that school!
Sorry for that :(
You are so brave, pretty and talented ❤
If you have Tourette’s you should be able to sit in class even though sometimes They may be disturbing you should be able to sit in class without getting kicked out or yelled at or reported Because the teacher is in a bad mood. It’s totally normal❤
Report her- what she did is what is unacceptable. I spent a number of years in the US public school and I still can't stand teachers who act 'holier than thou'. Everyone has their own struggles and quirks, just because they don't line up with someone else's view of 'normal' doesn't mean it's 'wrong'.
I love your positive attitude! Stay amazing. She better give you an A in class!!!!
I want to say this is like bumping into someone because your blind and that person expecting you to watch where you're going... But that literally happens too... People do not understand how disabilities work.
I have tics too so I can relate
Aw man not another part....I hate cliffhangers. Also I am terribly sorry you have to deal with dumb people like this 😔😔

That Jewelry is cool AF. I love the tree necklace.
god my english teacher gives me the DIRTIEST looks whenever i tic and make noise. obviously she knows she cant say anything but me and all my friends notice 😭
Ignore the ableist comment, their “take” is illegal due to disability discrimination laws anyways. I would speak to someone higher up in your school about this and bring your friends to back up your claims just in case, it sounds like your teacher isn’t fully educated on how tics work. If you’re sassy like me, I’d directly confront the teacher and ask them if they’d look the same way at a student having a seizure or even simply coughing/sneezing, because these are all as uncontrollable as tics and being glared at for something you can’t physically control does not allow you to learn properly.
@@libertyv5426 And thank god it is just your opinion and you don’t set policy. We’re human beings with a right to proper educated and Tourette’s has no effect on mental ability, it’s actually linked to high intelligence. Not only do we not need special education or a mental hospital specifically for tics, but neither one would help most of us because tics are neurological not mental and they can’t be cured. In literally all of my classes, it’s been more of a distraction for someone to sneeze or drop something than it is when I tic. And all of my classmates have said I’m not a distraction and they either get used to it within a week or simply put in earbuds. I have adhd, people breathing too loud and the sound of writing on paper distracts me, and my tics can affect my ability to read and write sometimes. If I can still manage to get my class work done even with all the distractions my disabilities cause me, so can everyone else, and I’m not going to argue that point further with someone unironically using the term “SPEDS”
@@SystemError1466 good luck with everything.
@@libertyv5426 My tics are actually worse than Zaras on average. She’s definitely not exaggerating, and the vast majority of people online aren’t either. And even with pretty bad tics, I still had no issues with distracting others, thunderstorms caused more of a fuss than me. If you don’t want to offend people, you’ve got some work to do when it comes to how you interact with disabled people’s content, and you should probably delete all of your comments saying we shouldn’t be in regular classes.
We need a part 3 :DD
No pressure btw

Part 3 plz lol
it’s coming don’t worry!!
NAH this reminds me of when i was only just diagnosed with absence seizures. One of my main teachers who hates my guts because i keep having anxiety/panic attacks during her lesson as she always is yelling which is a trigger for me and some other things i wont mention on the internet.
she constantly bugs me about it and this one time i was having a panic attack which sometimes causes absence seizures. She just sat down in the chair next to me the whole time and just stared at me. When i came too i freaked out and stood up. She then yelled at me to get out of her classroom for "ignoring her instructions". Multiple kids in the class all stood up with me and left. As most of the class was out on a trip there was probably 15 of us total in class that day and there ended up being 7 other kids standing in the corridor with me as a sort of protest. When she asked them to go back in they all went in and grabbed their things and walked back out. I assumed i had got them into trouble and started apologising repeatedly then on of them handed me my stuff and said were going to the headteacher (yes British secondary school). Our head teacher is a peace of shit but literally took our side straight away and marched us back down to the classroom and told my teacher off in front of everyone. This was when i was in year 8. It still freaks me out to this day. How incompetent and rude some people are if your disability is not visible.God knows how she still has a job.
Number of incidents:
year 8: 7
year 9: 15
year 10: 26
year 11: 17 and we still have like a month left
Woah that is one bad teacher...the teacher should have listened to you and not have ignored you 🙁
ikr girl your so pretty and amazing
That’s so embarrassing I’m sorry she reacted to you in that way. She clearly must’ve been ignorant as to what Tourette’s is 😕

That's so not fair. I feel so bad for you. You are so wonderful in every way you inspire me so much
People who don't understand what's going on love to say that a legitimate reason is just an excuse
I have had similar experiences but with ADHD. It sucks when an adult *decides* that you have bad intentions when really you made a mistake. Instead of letting it go, they berate you. Moments like that were so damaging and made me feel worthless.

I have a question do you get new tics ever? If so how do they start?
At that point I would've yelled "CAN I SPEAK?"
Instead of the teaching reporting you how about you report the teacher!

I was wondering the same..
It’s like this thing that make you say words, make you head twitch and all and you can’t control it. i’m not that good at explaining it so it’s better to look it up on google for a better explanation
"Wooow. Fuck off" honestly funny

Damn im sorry that happened. My best friend has tourettes, and subs are the worst. Whats equally as bad though is that half the school thinks hes faking, and will purposefully whistle (which is his main tic) to trigger them. They think its funny and it makes me and him so angry. (This post isnt to make you feel less so, just sharing a story and that i kinda understand how you feel , yk)
Faking Tourette’s and epilepsy is pretty low
bruh i also think there are some strange things that make me question the validity. but vigilante justice like this just isnt cool and a lot of the time just gets disabled people hurt.
Rude!!!!! Disrespectful.. I’m sorry you have to deal with people like that!!! Prayers for you and that rude supply teacher!!!!
Your hair is so cute!!
So cool… always handle people this way and you will ALWAYS be the better person!
У нас примерно также. Грустно осознавать то, что люди более старшего возраста не всегда понимают, что люди, болеющие синдромом Туррета - не контролируют тики 😢
I don’t have TS but I do have tics..my 4th grade teacher use to yell at me about them and always told me to stop faking twitching (I didn’t even know what tics were) but she never believed me as much as I told her I physically couldn’t do anything about it. It wasn’t even disruptive to anyone in my class. I’m in high school now and way older, I’ve developed more tics like whistling and snapping my fingers or clicking my tongue on top of the twitching. My teachers now all understand and make me feel comfortable with it and honestly it feels really good to not be judged by teachers. A few people have made fun of me but I don’t care anymore
This poor girl she can’t help it
That’s shameful 😢
I am so sorry!
Good thing you are so incredibly courageous!

It will be amazing how many people you will come across in your life that are completely UNEDUCATED..(like that teacher)
I'm happy they've calmed down...
Honestly if you tell school staff or your counsler, you can get her fired and potentially sued. I have adhd and I was letting my teachers know, but of course, ONE of them also calls it an excuse and adds on something about it not being a good excuse for my “behavioral issues” WHEN LITERALLY A BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST IS INVOLVED WITH GETTING ME ACCOMMODATIONS 😭😭
i don’t understand how some people lack common sense
Like if someone is acting like that and they say they have touretes (idk how to spell it)

As a person with Tourette’s, this has never happened to me, but, I can imagine bc in grade 6 a kid was making fun of one of my tics and that made me really upset.
I understand I have ticks too and people always think that it is dog ticks and take 1 step back and it can really upset me sometimes 😅
