eBay vs. Poshmark: Where To Sell Your Clothing Items (and Looking Up Comps)

  • I discuss the different types of women's clothing that sells well on Poshmark. I then show comparisons (i.e. "comps") on the two platforms to see which outlet is better for selling different types of clothing. Examples include items from: Kate Spade, Vince, J. Crew, Free People, H&M, Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, and Equipment Femme.

    Hope you can answer my question even for 3years old video - I don't get how do you understand how fast it was sold on eBay, if you see just the time when it was sold, but not when it was posted. looking forward to your answer, thanks. your videos are great and still relevant

    Hi! Love your videos. I learn something every time I watch you. Just wanted to let you know I style my merch sometimes with other items. Ebay customer service rep told me we are allowed to do that we just have to put it in the listing description that other items are not for sale are for props only.

    I have items on both Posh and Ebay. I am a very busy person and Posh takes time and energy to attend the parties and you need to share and follow. I have had a couple of items sell quickly on Posh. Lilly goes well on Posh. IMO Anthro (the pieces I find, are over rated) Not all items sell the same

    i just learned yesterday that Goodwill takes returns with exchanges. (although its on the receipt i never took the time to read it) as I'm learning the higher end brands, I'm coming to realize that new brand that i have to learn is non-ending. but, i am learning clothing brands, thanks to you and a few others.

    I crosspost an both platforms. I take pics on a white background and I also do flat lays with accessories. I upload all the pics on Posh and only the white background mannequin ones on eBay. Crossposting is a must for me the more eyes on your items the better. Just increases your chance of selling.

    Thanks you-your videos are so helpful. Appreciated learning to stay "fashion forward" and
    "eye-catching" for Poshmark. Can you explain exactly what Boutique means in Poshmark please.

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому +1

      Sure. 'Boutique' is when you open your own store within Poshmark. So if you make your own brand, or if you buy wholesale clothing, this would be a Boutique. If you are selling things from your personal closet, or items you are thrifting, this would not be considered 'Boutique'.

    Hi there. I need a little guidance if you can. I bought a pair of Stuart Weitzman over the knee suede boots. I don't even think they have been worn. If they have been it was on carpeting and for a very short time. I have never sold on Poshmark, only eBay. I looked at the consignment/selling fees for Poshmark but really don't know which to do. I would think the market would be strong on Poshmark but there are sold comps on eBay as well. What's your opinion. Oh, thank you for all your straightforward, informative videos. I have learned so much. Just wish you could have time to do more but I can't imagine how time consuming creating, editing, etc these videos are. Just wanted you to know you time and hard work is greatly appreciated from this newbie. Pamela

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому +4

      Thanks so much! I really appreciate your comments. Now let's get down to discussing those boots! (Great find, btw). So what I would do if I were you is decide if you think branching out to Poshmark is a good move for you at the moment. Do you have the time to list about 50+ items on the site? (The reason I say this, is your sales become MUCH better when you have more items). If so, then you might want to jump in. A lot of younger fashionistas are on Posh and are just waiting to get their hands on your boots. However, if you are feeling overwhelmed with just eBay (or if you don't have time to commit to anything else but this outlet), I would just list them on the site you already feel comfortable with. I believe that either platform will get you a great return on the boots. Best!

      New York Thrifter oh my gosh!! I am so glad I asked you because it is all I can do to keep up with my eBay account right now. I offer free shipping on about 90% of my items and I am being very slow in the listing process (crossing I's and dotting T's) just to make doubly sure I am making a profit on my items. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! After you said that it was like a bell went off in my head LOL. I'm sticking with eBay and when I get comfortable with sourcing, research, listing and shipping I may decide to hop in Poshmark then. I wish we lived closer to one another. I have the feeling we would be very good buds. Thanks again, Pam

    Poshmark scares me b/c it seems like you have to be so social to sell things, also, seems so many go to such lengths to have their things look good (flat lays) things like that. Can I just post something on my mannequin? I think that's what scares me off.

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому

      You 100% can list items on a mannequin -- lots and lots and lots of sellers do this. There is a lot of social sharing on Posh, but if you have the time and energy, there are lots of clothing items that command higher prices on this platform vs. eBay.

  • @4Distractiononly

    Poshmark is not my favorite. I find buying and selling on eBay more straight forward and easier to navigate.

    Thank you New York Thrifter for your excellent videos. I really enjoy watching them and learning so many tips from you. I wanted to ask you for some general advice/information. Do you have some suggestions for a new reseller to get started? I have at least a dozen items in my own closet I’ve been thinking about trying to sell on posh mark and eBay. I’m hoping I could do this as a part time side job. About how many hours a week would you say you spend on your business? Do you have any kind of ball park estimates on possible income on a part time basis? You’ve mentioned your eBay store has about 500 pieces. That seems like a lot, how long did that take you to build up to that? I’m interested in trying my luck at reselling clothing but I have a full time job and young children so my time is pretty limited. Any advice is greatly appreciated and thanks again for sharing so many invaluable tips on your channel!

      Try looking at "sold" jeans, and see if there is one way that comes up more often. I personally think you want to use many photos, but the lead photo that shows back pocket and bottom hem attracts me. Mannequin pics that get the whole pant tend to be smaller pics.

    Are shares and parties even worth it on Posh. I attend parties and I share listings to be polite but neither has EVER resulted in a sale for me.

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому +1

      Leggs I was watching a great video with Lindy Glenn and Boondoggle Bliss about this and they discussed that while you might not get sales (directly) from parties, this can be a great way of getting new followers and exposure for your closet.

    Hi! I love your videos and am 14 and I want to make money with reselling on eBay and poshmark. You are a great motivation. My parents will help me buy everything but the profit becomes mine so I don't have that much of a hassle. I will sell on eBay and poshmark for sure! Also how do you think about mercari , thread flip and think twice? They are clothes selling apps and similar to eBay and poshmark! Please let me know! I'm also from New York ❤❤❤.

    Why do you have to decide where to list it? Why not list it on both sites?

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому

      When you list on both sites, you have to worry about making sure the inventory is updated as it sells. If you make a mistake and don't take something down, then you can get into trouble (and on eBay if enough of this happens, they can suspend your account).

    Do you think the profit margin has been higher on thrifted items or Nwt more trendy items. I bought some high end jeans thrifted priced really low but it doesn't sell so I don't like being stuck with thrifted items but it seem like everyone shops thrifted

    • @RunwayMUA
      @RunwayMUA  7 років тому +1

      This is a great question. I'd say it really depends on your business model. If you don't have a lot to invest, then more inexpensive thrifted items would probably be the way to go. However, if you are looking to invest more money and don't need to make it back as quickly, then more expensive NWT items could be a winner. I know a lot of people (like myself) that have a bit of both in their eBay stores.

    Stick with ebay! I've only been shopping on Poshmark forvan couple months and have been deadbeated twice. The sellers evidently decide not to send the merchandise, but won't communicate or respond to your inquiries. I finally get an email from Poshmark telling me to cancel the purchase. But NOTHING FROM THE SELLERS. THEY ARE RUDE ASS BITCHES. I've never had this happen to me in 15 years of constant use of ebay. Poshmark just doesn't have the same standard of customer service that ebay has.
