I live out of a van. A bucket with two sets of plastic bags, a urinal, and wet wipes and sponge bath, along with weekly or monthly gym shower or rental shower is how I do it. I actually prefer a buckets height over a traditional toilet now lol.

    • @iamdebmiller
      @iamdebmiller Рік тому +6

@@michalob21 Sounds very simple, yet very effective! I can picture it. I lived for a time in an old travel trailer on some land I was hoping to develop. I had no electricity, no running water, but there was a septic system installed. I hauled water in by hand in 5 gallon jugs. I sponge bathed sometimes at home by heating water on my stove and using it sparingly in the shower. Mostly I showered like you said, at a gym where I had membership. It's all possible! Now where I live even though we have a toilet and septic tank, we are getting ready to build two composting toilets. It seems so wasteful to use precious water for bathroom needs when it can be reduced so much by using buckets or composting toilets which work just fine! Hope you are loving your van life.

Brilliant small van conversion on a budget! One thing I was wondering about - a fume exhaust outlet for your diesel heater - I can't imagine not needing one in such a confined space, carbon monoxide alarm not withstanding - safety first and all that.

Nice little build. I'm doing one very comparable. it's called the RAM ProMaster City in North America but I definitely would not add all that wood is. all it does is adds weight and kills gas mileage. I have found a small sink burner combo with tempered glass top for my countertop it knocks out two birds, one stone, also consider better ventilation. you do not want humidity to build up and start getting into the corners of metal as it starts to rust, but aside from that, Nice!

I love your van build! Thanks for the tour! I’m in the USA and the Ram ProMaster City is pretty much the same van, which is what I bought a couple of years ago and made it into a micro camper. I don’t have any electricity and didn’t insulate and put walls or a ceiling in (yet?). I also haven’t gotten out much in it yet as I am dealing with a health situation. I do plan to camp more this winter and take a road trip this spring or summer. Thanks for the inspiration!!

    Great build.
    Suggestions
Fan can be held below lens to keep midges away.
If you are going to put up netting to keep midges out, mosquito netting does not work the holes are too big
    You need midge netting
A midge net that covers the head
Rubber bands for shirt sleeves to keep them out
And as you will be going off the beaten track an emergency whistle and if thumb stick.
    Only Suggestions
I use my yeti as a micro camper nothing as luxurious as you have, but it serves the purpose
My build does keep all my gear out of sight, which is obviously most important

Hi Henry - you are the man with the van. It's the hideaway, garden shed, on wheels. Looks great, Henry. I've thought of a few things. Change of clothes in the van so you can change if you get soaked, without sitting around in wet gear. Some quick snacks in the van that don't perish as an emergency supply (Tunnock's Tea Cakes, Caramel Wafers, cans of Irn-Bru, crisps, Babybel cheeses, crispbread, etc.), anything that isn't bulky and that has good longevity. It's always handy. How would you charge up your battery pack if you're on a long trip, in winter where light levels can be low? Is there sufficient ventilation in your van for you to safely sleep? What happens to your waste water? Happy travels, Henry.

Rather than the sink you have, look for a small camper van/Touring Caravan sink and cooker, the tap folds down and they have a hinged lid for both sink and cooker. As you can know, space is at a premium though there’s a little more space than you have, having this instead means you don’t lose the counter top where your sink is and can then use it as a table. One idea that I’ve seen on Thomas Heaton’s van is where he has his bag etc, he built a storage compartment in the back but I think all his floor is raised as his van his a bit bigger than yours but it’s something to think about, he opens his back door and can slide his bag out and it doesn’t take up space in the living compartment, P.S. he does have a door that drops down when open with lock on it too.
I’m so jealous, I’d love a camper but neither have the funds or would be able to fit one out due to my disabilities but my brother has just bought a new, or nearly new Citroen Berlingo I think they’re called, which he has just built a bed with storage room underneath which he uses for fishing, just on one or two night trips with an awning that fits onto the back doors, something else you could consider if staying in the same spot for a few nights, campsite probably best though for obvious reasons.
