of all the vids of these i've seen, you are literally the only one thats actually shown that you treated the rust properly..it set my ocd off when i see a vid and i don't know if they've fixed the rust or just covered.. it also gets my ocd off when they drill into metal to mouint stuff, but don't treat the bare metal they've caused in the process...
where do you see it? i'm also interested in it, for instance with the Van-X curtain it seems like you drill & screw directly in the van but nothing is treated? or did I miss something? :)
@@bertv7373 hey, at the start there is a section where the rust is treated. With the van x curtains I don't do anything for treatment as there is no rust. :)

I'm shortly buying a VW Caddy Life and will do a simple conversion like this (I mean, you did it properly), for anyone watching who's thinking of getting a small van like this, to convert into a camper, the Caddy is a good choice, there's also a Peugot Partner tepee, A Fiat Doblo or a Ford Tourneo Courier, and others.. a slightly larger but good, reliable van would be something like a Nissan NV200...You can get it with windows all around like the other cars mentioned too... Peace...

Hello, good job,beautifull guys. Some things i would have done different. For example,using Wood i think It will increase the weight if the van ,also the flooring adds an extra weight. I prefer PVC instead of Wood,It last longer,and It weigts less. For the floor i would have used a flexible glue as the engenier floor needs to be able to expand and contract,may be vinyl flooring it has more resitance to water . Just my opinión,i like your video very much, beautifull job there 😚

Good job!But i thinking you've missed one little thing.Wjat about condensation inside of the van?Extraction is a must,because after you sleep in the van for a night,in the morning drops of condensation will be massive and falling on top of you.Unless you like sleeping with the door open,than it's ok. Other than this you've done a really good job.

That rust 😟 remember the open rocker panel construction - behind the inner fender you can look into those for the whole lenght to the rear wheel. Our Caddy from 2005 had fist size rust holes in both sides just after 8 years - it was a beloved and well maintained family car. We cleaned the rocker panel twice a year but no chance against rust.
@@willsvanadventures to get a look onto the mess it is enough to turn a front wheel to the outside ( steering wheel complete to the right ) - then remove the two lowest screws of the inner plastic fender and look behind the fender. There will be a lot of dirt and in our case it was more than 3 liters of water / mud mixture which came out of the rocker panel. It was when our Caddy was 6 months old. Also have a look on the deflector panel at the wipers. The rhd version will have two open holes on top which are for the lhd wiper arms. Those holes must be closed with plugs - otherwise the leafs will fall into and later there is a lot of soil there. The water / leafs / soil is guided to fall direct to the open position of the rocker panels. It looks if VW made that with intention....

Would be good to have a comfortable floor - currently metal. I might glue an underlay and carpet to avoid knee reconstruction surgery. I don't want anything permanent, including holes drilled. I also garden, so Caddy is for carting bags of mulch etc.

Nice job. Did you insulate the roof above the drivers and passengers cabin? I bought Berlingo maxi but haven't had the confidence to start yet though i have the materials. I'm thinking of condensation issues if i don't try to take the shelf off and do that bit too
Thank you! Yeah for most people adding those things would be a lot better. I didn't as need the space for bikes and surfboards etc. Plus I like to take the bed out and then have a full empty back to use the van to move stuff around or go to the tip.
Don't know how long it's been since you finished it but, if you paint wood you have to paint it from both sides. Otherwise it will bend eventually hope it didn't but just so you know 😊

Clean, tidy and simple conversion that looks good. Tip for plastics, use a heat gun will make bumpers and external trims look like factory new mate

If you use ronseal furniture oil on the bumpers it will last longer

I'd definitely put some on the ceiling, but the other places it's not needed.

Yes it was under modified camper insurance so covers all mods and all future mods.

I need to insulate my caddy van floor. When I lift ply up and Insulate how do I then re fix the floor down? Daft question? It looked as though you just laid it back down without fixing? Cheers.
Hey, yeah so you're exactly right. Just lay the floor back on top. The weight of the floor will hold it in place.
