Shaunos shed is so strange 😂 has a hoist but no compressed air, has impact drivers but no vice just blocks of wood. I love it mate 😂 cool episode I like these sort of episodes very educating
Watching from Mozambique, am a fan, as well as my 5yr old son. He calls your show "Umbogari" Learning a lot from you guys. i love working on the cars too. thanks for showing the mistakes too, its important
For wire brushing nooks and crannies I make a wire brush from old wire rope, splay the end a bit and chuck it in the drill, gets down into corners, even goes around corners.
Honestly Shaun’s, I respect you so much more as you know when to let experts do things, with engines, wiring and diffs, but are willing to do a fair bit and learn. Better than pretty much every other person
Hey guy's big heya from NZ. Wife and I love all your shows, we have a Swb 89 70 and a Mwb 87 70 setup for adventure and just want to say your personal content is awesome and is really nice to see you doing the hard yards that we all go through that sometimes feels is missed in your 24/7 shows but is is just part of the trip. I feel videos like this just help others feel your in the same place between trips! (Even if you sometimes get extra help) cheers keep up the good work
The old Landcruisers and Nissan's would have to be the best boys toys, so easy to work on and fix yourself without any fancy tools, loving the rebuild and can't wait to see it on the Cape York tracks. 👍
Nice to see how working on your car in your own shed is actually like. Dirty and tools everywhere, all that was missing was empty beer bottles. Love it
I've always presumed they're heavily away from camera. Those boys aint working for free on their time off and i've noticed they get jollier as the day progresses in the past videos.
Good vibes my friend, Alexander Diaz from the Dominican Republic I write to you, I am Venezuelan I have been in this country for 8 years, brother I admire that passion you have for 4x4, and I share it with you, those adventures you do are spectacular, in my Venezuela too 4x4 is practiced very well, I dream of going to your country and doing one of those adventures in the open air, you are hard at what you do, regards
I’m jealous the weather down here in the blue mountains NSW has been crap, I’m been trying to work on my troopy for the last 8 mths, I’m struggling with juggling work, home duties, sick parents to find time to work on my troopy body work to get it driving after 5 years. Mechanical is done which is a relief.
I did this to my Cherokee 3 years ago. Best investment ever. Even did complete break system. Its nice have a few years no trouble no worries. Wish i could have Dana 60s in it. But i don't wheel like i did before my back gave out. Live for snow wheeling. Nice build bye the way.
Red Rubber Grease on literally everything, and the seals literally slide in like a glove! Same with interference fit bearing races, lube her up and in they go! You guys not got yourselves a cheap 10tonne floor press? Made building my diffs up with lockers and installing my reduction gears a bloody work of art! Saved the busted knuckled and need for last minute trips to A&E and busted bearing races! 🤣💪🏼💪🏼
So glad you stayed with the 80. Raw, no nonsense 4wd that most can relate to. Great vid showing the rebuild. Love the honesty when mistakes happen. I can relate
I’m sure it’s gonna be a BEAST and I can’t wait to see it in action! When you work on your own project it gives you great satisfaction of what you accomplished. When I built my buggy from the ground up I was so amazed at what I’ve done. Because I’ve never built any car before.
Shauno - I mean this constructively... Its worth downloading and reading the manual. at 19:25 when you install the front locking nut, the process involves tightening the nut, turning it several times, backing the nut off and retightening. Torque figures are pretty important even if you've rebuilt the hubs a bunch of times.
I just want to point out that the engine, trans case and body were literally cracked or broken in some major way. Absolutely mental that soot lasted like that
I can't wait to see the old girl running again I've been a fan of soot since I was a little kid and now I'm 17 it's going to be insane can't wait to hit the tracks myself.
Great build series mate. Good to see an actual build, instead of blokes sayin “we” gonna fix this n “we” gonna mod this, as they drop it off to a workshop. I’m currently doin a 75 cab to 80 chassis swap. I understand all ur emotions during the process, 🤣🤣. Definitely worth the ride! Good stuff mate👍
Looks amazing mate. I’m a Nissan guy through and through but have a soft spot for sooty and sooty mark 2 is a beast. Keep up the great work mate 👍. I hope to see you and the guys out on the tracks one day so I can meet you all and see the rigs in action live 🙏. Cheers Doug 🍺
Doing the same with mine along side you. Was waiting for next video, ironic as I’m doing my front end, brakes and rear brakes at the moment as well. Love to show you some photo’s.
When tightening wheel bearings, you should tighten them more than necessary to seat them, then back them off. Otherwise they will loosen up down the road. Looking forward to seeing this done. Nice work Shauno.
So funny, I had just come in from fixing my Toyota before watching this, from exactly what he talks about at 11:20. Love these videos, great entertainment and very relatable from a working mans point of view.
Fantastic I’m currently working on my manual 1hd-ft 80 👍 she needs some loving 🥴 I’ve rebuilt the front axle, oils, filters, u, js and is stripped out inside for a bit of welding by a professional .
loved watching Shauno just working away with Jesse in the shed. With all respect a whole lot better than the boys walking into someone else's flash shop full of 79's and 200's! Keep it up, keen to see sooty 2.0!
Talk about learning lessons in patience, frustrations and skills, at the end of the day when it all comes together, there will be satisfaction for a job well done! Onya Shauno & Jesse, great teamwork!
So on the older closed knuckle front diffs once the seals go out became standard to pack them full of grease. Those felt seals on the back of the knuckle would just leak oil immediately on the old military stuff we worked on. Everything was fairly worn out on our stuff.
Hi there. The construction video is very good and instructive, you can learn a lot from it and learn the little tricks. Nice work and I look forward to the next video from you!
love this kind of video, even tho i dont have an 80 you do learn about all the parts & components that go into making a robust 4wd & also seeing what considerations to take to do a job right. Partly why i like the M5E39 channel, gives you the confidence to dive into a job yourself
lucky you had Jesse there.... wrangle in those cowboys aka "Shauno" on this build.. great work mate, look pretty awesome now..Nothing better than a 80 with all new parts..
Front axle seals are notorious to leak! I started using Marlin Crawler Seals and no more leaks. They have a steel wire instead of a spring to keep the lip of the seal tight to the axle.
Shauno, you don't usually torque wheel bearings you use a balance scale and pull the wheel and it will be set to a certain weight, when in spec. That is how tight they need to be because too tight and the wheel will be locked and cause friction and heat up the bearings. Too loose and the bearings will wear and knock which is why you need to do a pull off test to get them right. It might be the old-fashioned way of doing this but, it is the best method.
G'day Shauno. It's great that you are not skimping on the smaller items in your build. Shame about the cracked housing ( 1 too many high centre hangups maybe .) Details make the best results. All the very best wishes
Thats A Big Bummer & Sooty IS Going To Be So Much Better You Won't Even Know How To Drive It, Really it's Going To Be That Much Better, What A TREAT It's Gonna Be 👍👍👍👍👍
Looks like you've made good progress! Don't forget those crown and pinions will need a break in with a few light heat cycles before you put the beans to it.. Run it out for 1500km and swap out that diff fluid again, you will be surprised at how much metal will be stuck to your drain plugs.
Been waiting so long to see the next episode of the sooty mach2 build!! What an absolute rig!!! Can’t wait til you have it up and running and take it on its first trip!! Good to see Jesse working on it too 😔👍🏾
"It's only dodgy "IF', it doesn't work".( to quote Shauno) 🤔Hmm? Really cool to see the new soot coming together, can't wait to hear it running and, see it move back and forth for a change instead of up and down on the hoist. Maybe the transfer case issue will be resolved in time for T.L.C.C Willow Glen challenge on the October long weekend. Might be a good place for sooty mk2's shake down run with the new low range reduction gearing. Just a suggestion.
75 series also has the same problem with the axle studs shearing off. I initially upgraded to 8mm Chromoly (like you have there) and at least they stopped snapping, but they did keep backing out. Never thought to loctite them. I'll redo that some time. I eventually upgraded to 10mm Chromoly and said goodbye to my stud issues, except I now have to take the nuts off the studs to take the wheel off. I've only had to do that once on the track so far, so not too big a sacrifice. I think the main reason I had issues is auto lockers and 37" boots. But now you mentioned it, I will go back to 8mm chromoly studs next refit and use loctite. Thanks for the tip. I'm looking forward to trading in the 75 Series Troopy for a U1700L Unimog with a removable living quarters on the back. Damn, and I thought the Troopy was heavy!!! Love your work mate. Keep it up. Hope to see you on the tracks some time, but I'm probably more likely to bump into Graham as I'm currently based in WA.
know the feel when stuff don't go to plan, when u work as a panel beater on cars for a living it happens all the time. good to see shed builds as that's what my car is and its on show at Melbourne 4x4 show Sunday if I spot ya I'll say gday
My god she looks tough even without the bar work and the horsepower adding stickers, i would love to own something like Sooty, although I'm keeping it Toyota even though it's 1997 Corolla, probably the best car I've ever had, love Sooty and love you as well Shauno.
Shauno very informative Very enjoyable Someone that owns a 200 & 70 series I really loved to c the GSP make a brief appearance Where have 2.A little left field
First to say bring on the Jocko Solo, authentic jocko with no scripts. Just the bloke in his element
Nope...i prefer mature host..not young boi
'Authentic' and 4wd247 don't really go together anymore unfortunately.
If you want to see jocko travel solo..then tell jocko to open his own channel like graham did for solo travel video
Disrespected nose style 👌
Strong STRONG emphasis on NO SCRIPTS. The adventures are fantastic. But skipping through 90% of the talking on camera is a go to move here.
Shaunos shed is so strange 😂 has a hoist but no compressed air, has impact drivers but no vice just blocks of wood. I love it mate 😂 cool episode I like these sort of episodes very educating
He spends all his money on Sooty parts 😄
He's got his priorities 🤣
Toyota man needs a hoist before air in the tyres 🤣
I would trade my vise and air compresser for a lift in my garage, wouldn't make that trade lol
I was thinking exactly the same thing. I have a vice & compressor but no hoist :0)
Thats a cracking tip... thanks.
also rust remover spray? Didn't see that mentioned
That IS a real good tip!! thanks for that!

*If in doubt sooty out* 😁😍💯
Can't wait to see sooty 2.0 showing the dmax how its done. Loving the build episodes but keen as to see it in action
I always love watching this crazy 4x4 boys.
The old Landcruisers and Nissan's would have to be the best boys toys, so easy to work on and fix yourself without any fancy tools, loving the rebuild and can't wait to see it on the Cape York tracks. 👍
Kept my 92 stock. It still takes me anywhere I need to go.
My fiance and I 💘your 4wheeling videos & love trying your recipies!
Reduction gears in the t-case are the bomb!! I love mine!!!
For someone like me who's an 80 Series owner and loves 'em, getting a chance to rebuild one is what dreams are made off.👍
Nice to see how working on your car in your own shed is actually like. Dirty and tools everywhere, all that was missing was empty beer bottles. Love it

New suddy is brilliant looking car, and will do old suddy praud. 👍👌. Greatings from denmark 🇩🇰

That's the way I was taught to torque things including wheel nuts.
Not 30 ugga-duggas with a nutsmacker then a instant click with the torque wrench.
Dude, this is Shauno we're dealing with here... most of his builds are held together by chewing gum and faith 🤣
I just want to point out that the engine, trans case and body were literally cracked or broken in some major way. Absolutely mental that soot lasted like that

Hey Shauno, would love to see inside the diff & how the TJM locker functions please 🙏
Great video 👊👏👏

Good stuff mate👍
I appreciate the videos, they are becoming my go-to for evening entertainment. Keep up the great work
Sooty 2.0 gna be an absolute weapon and will make the previous sooty proud!!! Cheers to you mate! Awsome rebuild.. cant wait to see her in action!

Love the build mate I think you graham Jocko and Jessie should do a Budget bulid comp for charity
When tightening wheel bearings, you should tighten them more than necessary to seat them, then back them off. Otherwise they will loosen up down the road. Looking forward to seeing this done. Nice work Shauno.
Yeah they need to be preloaded to 2.6-5.6kg
yes pretty much all wheel bearings are the same tighten till locked to seat em proper then back off to the preload.
@@chrisforgan731, yes unless they're the press fit type.
So funny, I had just come in from fixing my Toyota before watching this, from exactly what he talks about at 11:20. Love these videos, great entertainment and very relatable from a working mans point of view.
Sooty Mark II looking super ready for the tracks Shano !!🥳
Fantastic I’m currently working on my manual 1hd-ft 80 👍 she needs some loving 🥴 I’ve rebuilt the front axle, oils, filters, u, js and is stripped out inside for a bit of welding by a professional .
Sooty mk2 looks absolutely amazing I'm green with envy!
Love it mate, fantastic build so far. Dont forget to straighten that bonnet up too . Aweseome to see Jesse
on the team now.
Hey Shauno looking good mate these things are meant to try us but watching you & your mates helping you is a great achievement. Well Done
Great job. Love watching and following this build. Can't wait to see the end results on the tracks!
I'm gunna miss old sooty, but it's nice to see that he is using the old parts on sooty MK II
Love my 80, love watching you rebuild yours
Drooooool… twin locked with reduction T case.. in an 80… dream build Shaun
This is my favorite videos besides
the big trips, please do more of these shed videoes on Daryl And Grampa 80Series.
That's the dream. To have a man-cave, and a place where you can restore or build something. Looking forward to the next episode of this build.
😈😈😈unbelievable, office boy part time 4x4 mechanic now pulling anything apart and refining it to better then new ! Amazing 😈😈😈
Honestly, I wish I have the skills and the ability to build vehicles like this. It is literally like watching jigsaw puzzle. Absolutely fascinating!
loved watching Shauno just working away with Jesse in the shed. With all respect a whole lot better than the boys walking into someone else's flash shop full of 79's and 200's! Keep it up, keen to see sooty 2.0!
I miss Sooty MK I and can't wait first the 1st time Mk II hits the trails... soon I hope! That build is pure dope! Cheers from Canada!
Talk about learning lessons in patience, frustrations and skills, at the end of the day when it all comes together, there will be satisfaction for a job well done! Onya Shauno & Jesse, great teamwork!

Sooties coming along great looks good nothing better then doing most of the work and seeing it come togeter
It's looking great Shauno , looking forward to seeing her out on the tracks!
Hi there. The construction video is very good and instructive, you can learn a lot from it and learn the little tricks. Nice work and I look forward to the next video from you!
Hi mate love every bit of what you and all the boys at 24/7 4x4 are doing with the Chanel keep up the awesome videos and builds
love this kind of video, even tho i dont have an 80 you do learn about all the parts & components that go into making a robust 4wd & also seeing what considerations to take to do a job right. Partly why i like the M5E39 channel, gives you the confidence to dive into a job yourself
Looking Mint👍👍👍. Can’t Wait to see it at the end. Very inspired to do a build after this build series👍👍👍👍
It’s looking fantastic Shaun can not wait to see him up and running again
I watch every one of these. I'm hoping to get my old 4wd back next month. The hopefully be able to build it back up the way I want it.
Easy method I've found for really stuck brake pistons, change bleed nipple to a grease nipple and send it with grease 👌 messy but works
Loving the build and ol Soot's is looking tough! Can't wait to see her run!
lucky you had Jesse there.... wrangle in those cowboys aka "Shauno" on this build.. great work mate, look pretty awesome now..Nothing better than a 80 with all new parts..
Sooty is looking awesome really enjoying watching it come together
Front axle seals are notorious to leak! I started using Marlin Crawler Seals and no more leaks. They have a steel wire instead of a spring to keep the lip of the seal tight to the axle.
looking good shauno, ole soot has come a long way.
Awesome Shauno I can’t wait to see it on the tracks

You've single handedly driven up the price of 80's. 👍
love watching your car build videos!!
Looks amazing!! Hope to see Sooty 2.0 in a new Victoria highlands snow episode!! Looks awesome though!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Good to have Jesse on the vid again
Guys awesome job. Just love watching you guys off road.
Love watching your work. And your driving adventure. Keep up your work i LOVE IT
Looks good mate can't wait to see it wheeling 👍
Something tells me that sooty 2.0 is going to be a real beast
Great to see you are getting sooty closer can not what till i see you wheeling on its first trip...
Sooty 2 is looking sweet. Look forward to seeing it running
Been waiting so long to see the next episode of the sooty mach2 build!! What an absolute rig!!! Can’t wait til you have it up and running and take it on its first trip!! Good to see Jesse working on it too 😔👍🏾
Take a shot each time Shauno mentions Sooty MKII driving on her own steam. Absolute Blottown on the way!
Can't wait to see sooty back in action 👍
Sorry to dissapoint you..you need to wait until next year for shauno to finish his sooty build 😆
can't wait to see the new/old beast back on the on the road or track
"It's only dodgy "IF', it doesn't work".( to quote Shauno) 🤔Hmm? Really cool to see the new soot coming together, can't wait to hear it running and, see it move back and forth for a change instead of up and down on the hoist. Maybe the transfer case issue will be resolved in time for T.L.C.C Willow Glen challenge on the October long weekend.
Might be a good place for sooty mk2's shake down run with the new low range reduction gearing. Just a suggestion.
Yes! we loved and we were waiting for you to take her out for a spin but ok we will wait for it.
Bloody fantastic! Love the build makes me super keen to do one and I know next to nothing about building cars hahaha
Awesome work Shauno, i have to say its really coming together !!
I have been wondering what happened to Sooty 2.0. Happy to see more spanner-spinning on it! Lots of us can’t wait to see it out on the tracks!
75 series also has the same problem with the axle studs shearing off. I initially upgraded to 8mm Chromoly (like you have there) and at least they stopped snapping, but they did keep backing out.
😈😈😈 i dig the old 80 series .. awd what a great starting point 😈😈😈
Awesome progress and nice build Shauno
Hey boys, it’s so much easier to put the axle seals in before you put the swivel hub on.
Looks good. makes me thing of my own build that im working on right now. Always seems to be something that needs to be worked on.
It’s all coming together and it looks epic 👌
My god she looks tough even without the bar work and the horsepower adding stickers, i would love to own something like Sooty, although I'm keeping it Toyota even though it's 1997 Corolla, probably the best car I've ever had, love Sooty and love you as well Shauno.
Shauno very informative
Very enjoyable
Someone that owns a 200 & 70 series I really loved to c the GSP make a brief appearance
Where have 2.A little left field
