    Derek Murphy rules! Always enjoy your videos and learn a lot every time. Thanks to your formatting and marketing lessons, my first book is finally complete and has sold over 100 copies during the 1st month "soft launch." Thanks for all your info Derek. PS - Great hair!

    I'm having trouble with the audio on these videos, Derek, is anyone else complaining about the volume being too low? I'm not sure, of course, it could be me.

    Great video as always. I'm just starting my second series in a new genre - this time written to market (luckily, a market I love)

    Most valuable part of this for me was hearing the reason you suggest NOT to sell to family and friends "You're teaching Amazon your books don't sell" thanks that was helpful.

    Love your videos Derek. I haven't seen all of them, and maybe the answer is there, but I'm still super confused on how someone starting at zero, with no list, no platform, etc, builds a list and pre-launch interest... before having a product released and anything to stand on.

    Thank you for the information...great shares and tips. I also enjoy your templates and formatting lessons. I needed a "refresher" and they were such a BIG help!

    Great tips and really enjoyed your video. I just released my first book “This Is Business Vol 1“ which is on Amazon. I have used these strategies and they really do work. Thanks. 😊

    I write poetry and I’m publishing several books soon. Thanks a lot for this. I’ll keep watching your videos for sure 🙏🏽 Do you know what works best for poets? I mean, is there any site for it? I’m from Spain, so you may know more than I do about this for sure.

    Hi Derek in others videos you say you use KDP Select, do they allow you to send free copies of your book even if they have 3 months exclusive on it? How you do PERMA-FREE promo in that case?

    • @DerekMurphycreativindie
      @DerekMurphycreativindie  6 років тому +2

      You can still send out review or ARC copies, and it's not in violation of KDP select's rules. You just can't make it an optin offer or give to everyone publicly.

      Great Thanks...that include Booktubers I suppose! I may even do only 3 months Select and than give up to make a perma free for longer...once I get the 20 reviews I apply again to try Bookbub application

    At that point, what do you attribute your success to? The fact that you're a great marketer? Doesn't that illustrate the fact that your writing is secondary to your marketing skill, because without the marketing your writing will wither away in obscurity, irregardless of its value as art.
    You say, "But readers have to see my work to appreciate it."
    To which I say, " You're absolutely correct, but they're seeing it because of your marketing skill, not your literary skill."
    So the question remains, are you a marketer first and an author second, or vice versa?
    Not that it really matters beyond my own need to illustrate the obvious.

      If it was only marketing, I wouldn't have over 1000 positive reviews or a 4.7 average. Marketing helps get visibility, after that the book is on its own. I'm successful because I write good books and readers find them.

    37 books? How long did it take to write that many?

    • @DerekMurphycreativindie
      @DerekMurphycreativindie  7 років тому +2

      I don't actually have that many - they show up because sometimes people tag me as the cover designer. I only have 5 that earn money.

      Cool, thanks for clearing that up. What's your current speed (i.e months/book)? Also, what do you think is the minimum speed required to maintain traction and not basically having to start over from scratch every single time, and what's the speed in which books/releases will have a synergistic and multiplicative effect?

    • @DerekMurphycreativindie
      @DerekMurphycreativindie  7 років тому +6

      Ideally, one every three months, so 4 or 5 books a year. I think that's totally possible with an hour or two of work a day.

    The info is good, but you speak way too fast as for me. I had to stop and re-listen certain fragments of your video at least dozen of times. The volume too is low, indeed, but it can be leveled up. And there is nothing can be done with your speech tempo, sorry...

      That's a very subjective problem.. but you can change the speed in settings...
