"Uncommon"? not much is new here. Make the book free? Make the book discounted for a time? Freebooksy, Bookbub, Amazon promotions, Goodreads promotions, whatever: what's new here? If you have an audience already, sure, there's all sorts of things you can do. There are marketing conferences you can attend to get ideas (ive done so), it's all ****ing great, and none of it matters if you don't have an audience to begin with. My ass is uncommon, LOL, so annoying. you and a dozen other "experts". Click bait. What's uncommon is that you're on UA-cam and they're usually on Instagram.
Im the worst at Social media. But everyone who knows me and my book I'm writing are saying social media strategies will get it out to my market in a big way. Thanks for this video. Great information.
To me, the most interesting tip is the first one. I usually like to keep big things a secret because I believe that if you tell many people your project may go wrong. It sounds silly, but in my house, I was always taught that. Now I can air my big project out so people can be aware of it. Thank you, Pat! Great video.
Fabiola García Morales+ Do you mean wait until you've actually finished your book before you tell people about it? I intuitively agree with you. It probably depends on the kind of book you are writing. Self help would work OK the way he is saying -but literature???
Love this video Pat! I'd say your tip #1 is one of the biggest mistakes that most new authors don't follow. They work hard on their book, and then, after hitting publish, they ask themselves "Hmm..how should I market this." Creating a plan the day you start writing not only helps you to sell more books upon launch but also helps you write a better book too - marketing isn't just a sales push, it's research too and understanding how to best serve your market. Knowing that, you'll create a better book for them.
Hi Kindlepreneur, my best marketing tool is to add the link of my poetry book: www.amazon.com/dp/B083TRSWWG here so you can read it, and have fun with it. And "Poetry" Do Sells.
These are so good! Two years ago I had that momentum built up so well! I started writing a children's book with a goal to write, illustrate and self-publishing a book each month for the 100dayproject. I did most of the first book in the first three weeks! It was so exciting! Then some things came up and I wasn't able to finish it. Then many other things happened and I couldn't get my focus back on it to finalize it. I was so sad that I missed it. Now I'm back! I told people that this year I'm going to finish my open-ended projects and mentioned this particular book. I see the same people responding that did before! In the last 3 day I got as far as submitting it to KDP and I will be getting my proof copy soon. I can't wait to see how things go with it! I definitely see why letting people see it first and write reviews, or set a starting price low, such a good idea! I will definitely do that! :) And I agree, sharing the progress is really helpful! :) People naturally enjoy behind the scenes and then are more likely to buy a copy.
Yep, reviews + free promo are really helpful. My client's book (also a children's book) ranked 9th in General Humorous Fiction category when we did this. Also, doing this within the first week from the publish date is crucial. Good luck🤗
I like the idea of creating a support group. I wrote my novel The Dandelion with followers of Abraham-Hicks in mind and there are many in that group who would jump at the chance to spread the word, so thank you for that!
I have been watching how to videos for (ebooks books) promotion/marketing for months this is by far the best and most realistic one of them all, I’m watching a second time to take note. Thank you so much .
Our book is by Alan Graham and your tip about perhaps donating a few copies to music schools and asking schools if they'd like to include it in their curricula is invaluable. Thanks.
I literally can't pick one as the best tip but keeping the audience engaged via social media stood out to me. I know I like to feel involved in my interests so I will definitely do this when I publish my book.
Great video! And a little side benefit of Tip #1 is that you'll be less likely to quit this project half way because you've publicly committed to writing it (because book writing is hard and most authors I know go through those thoughts of ... should I write this? will anyone read this? who am I to write a book?). And Tip #3 - love that you're asking people to share something fun vs just asking them to share your book with their audience. Way better for starting a conversation as you noted. Love your channel and your podcast! Thank you.
I am so glad I found you in my suggestions. I will be self publishing my book for the first time. All of your tips were helpful. The one that resonated with me the most was Talking about your book before it even comes out. Give me people something to anticipate, like a movie trailer.
These are super good tips, Pat - thank you. I've gotta say, I especially think #3 is brilliant & know from personal experience that you do this extremely well. Building the marketing directly INTO your book is not only easy to do, it's mega helpful to your reader/listener (if it's an audiobook) by adding value for them, and it's also a great promotional opportunity for you as the author. A total win-win! Thank you for another wonderful video loaded with awesomeness, Pat - you ROCK!
Thanks Tanya! I think a book should be more than just a person reading on a page, but taking action and sharing that action with others. It doesn't have to get super fancy, but a little thinking ahead of time can make the book, dare I say, fly even higher. Haha! #dadjokes
Pat .... yep ... again with a total winner! I'll for sure be using Tip #1 ... Promote Early. I already have niche FB groups with 13k, 15k, and 25k members interested in the exact topic I'm writing on. In fact it's because of the questions and challenges they bring to the groups that I'm writing this! Yes maybe that should be a no-brainer? But not until you SAID THIS did I realize ... oh yeah duh ... let them know what I'm working on AND that I'm doing this specifically FOR THEM! THANK YOU, PAT for another extremely valuable video!
I like the idea of talking about the book creating process. I agree that people like to see what happens behind the scenes. I have a book coming in a month so will embrace this technique ASAP.
Hi Pat! First of all, THANK YOU for this video! I really needed this right now! Interestingly, I already have a large following, and books about to be published.. just needed help on promo and marketing ideas. I took notes on all 9 tips and plan to use them all at the right time. I plan to start #6 first - start recording podcasts now to coincide when the book is available for sale (or just before). # 5 Create a book club website - perfect idea! We can do that quickly. I especially love the idea of building in ways INSIDE THE BOOK, to get people involved LIVE via social media: twitter, fb posts, hastag etc. Also the kindle promo is a great idea too. So first thing I AM doing, is develop my plan to implement these strategies! Thank you again!! 🤗
oh and last but not least - the reason I found your video is my spouse told me to go research, "building street teams!" So we will do that as well! When I searched on "street team" - that is how I found THIS video!
I'm launching a metaphysical / spiritual novel in a few days, and I'm going to try the KDP Select "free for 5 days" tactic. I love that idea, Pat! Thank you!
Hi! Just subscribe to your channel. I found all your tips very helpful and sincere. I can see the great importance of marketing a book before publishing in order to build an audience. Thanks s lot Pat!
Thanks so much, Pat. Great idea about creating events. It should be so obvious, but somehow we never thought of it. The book my son wrote 15 years ago about his swim down the Mississippi River has several milestones we can highlight, including the launch on Kindle this month. Thanks for such good advice!
Brilliant information. Thank you for getting straight to the point with no fluffing around like most videos. I will return to your channel for more advice.
The first tip was most interesting to me- these days people commonly speak about keeping things to yourself because you don't know if someone has bad intentions or ill-will towards you. So this approach was actually very refreshing and makes lots of sense if you just look at the growth of Influencer culture and how it came about. Thanks!
Wow, I am finishing my first book (the first draft anyway) right now. I have made a Facebook page. I am not big into social media, but I suppose I should start using twitter. Congrats on all of your success. I hope mine will be on par . Thank you for this video
Hi. Just viewed your video and I liked all of it. It was all really good advice so it’s hard to choose just one. I’m a homely old lady, so doing videos or a pod cast isn’t something I think would fly well. But, having had businesses before, I know your suggestions will work, so I’m going to implement as many as I possibly can. Thanks.
your videos have zero dislikes or very few. I believe it's cause your giving real advice, not trying to sell or push anything on your audience, you connect so well with them. That's why you appeal to me.
Hello Pat, your tips are fabulous, and I really appreciated them. The 2 of them that I liked more are involving a team (people with larger platform) and the promo circuit (the virtual one).
The last point would really do the trick - creating an annual event connected with the book/author. An interesting and valid reason to repeat why you decided to come up with the book in the first place.
All fabulous tips. I was considering doing a Podcast anyway but watched a vid on Podcast vs TV channel - I think it was with you Pat, and Gillian Perkins. Was going to go down the TV Channel. Now you've made me question that decision. Doh! I need a team - all of my stuff is getting too much for just me.
I’ve published one book and am about to publish another. Some of these tips I’ve used and they work! The ones I haven’t used yet I will definitely be trying this time around. Thanks for sharing!
I did write a book! Have been writing for many years and finally have my first book. Yay! I am doing everything backwards. Now I need a launch team and reviews. Thank you for this awesome video that gives the best tips I've heard yet plus you are so good on camera. Okay - my favorite tip that you suggested has to be the launch team. This makes sense. Thank you again!
To listen your suggestions feelings your experiences and I really got little bit guided bi a words I don't know where you are in the part of this world really you have gave the good way for a writer to go I am from India and I also have written the book cash love
I liked all of them, but I am most intrigued right now with starting a book club. I have thought about doing that before as a way to start sharing a lot of the great books I read in my niche, but not as a way to also help with sales of my own books. Love it!
I think the Street Team is crucial. Love what you said about giving ownership to others. They will naturally WANT to share the book with others if they are invested in some way. If they see the value of the contents or even just believe in you, they'll be honored to be invited to help, and will likely become your raving fans who can't wait to share what you're doing. Thanks Pat! Let's get lunch. I live down the street. :)
You have given me some excellent tips these thank you. I will apply some of them to my existing books but my new book, living on Mars that I am writing I am going to create a vlog to show people how I go through the process of writing it, also this will promote my book on how to write and publish your book for free.
I have heard many people talk about #1 and #2, so those are on my to-do list for sure. But I thought #3, to build sharing experiences into the book is pretty cool. I am excited to fit that in.
Great advice Pat. I will be using the promote in advance tip. for my next book. I want to finish my book and have the editing done. Then I will look to get some endorsements from people in my genre. My first book was an award-winning book and introduced myself to the world. Now that I'm a published author, I hope to build on the success of my first book. My audience has been clamoring for another book.
#InLikeFlynn I like tip#1 to talk about your book even before you launch it. I just learned of the 50% rule that says 50% of your time should be spent writing your book and 50% on marketing your book. I understand now that even while you are writing your book you can at the same time start marketing it. I didn't do this for my first books that i published on Amazon because I was shy talking about that project since I'm so new to writing books. I'll do it better now. Thanks, Pat!
All of these ideas are so appealing I am gonna try them all. I am writing a self-help book and will be self publishing it. I was wondering if how am I gonna market it and make it a best seller. I have completed writing manuscript of around 30% of my first ever book and I am glad I ain't too late to watch this video. Thank you so much this is the most wonderful guidance I have come across ❤️
Well, I love your tip #1 because the people I know wait until they print or going to sale their books, and maybe lost an important time promoting before the book is ready... also love the tip #8 because I didn´t know that it was possible. Thanks again, Pat! #InLikeFlynn
Really great content. Until I started to listen to your podcast and others I never realized that publishing companies didn't do anything for the authors and that they needed to self promote and promote early. That is one tactic I will remember for they day when I write my bestseller! #InLikeFlynn
Thanks Aaron! Funny, I saw a preview of this comment and I read it as, "Really great content, Until I started to listen to your podcast..." 😆Thanks for the comment, man!
#InLikeFlynn .. I can totally see myself doing an anniversary around the day I went into biz. Amy (Porterfield) mentions your book in soo many situations in our insider conversations .. I am surely gonna read it one of these days. Thanks, Pat.
This is amazing advice and I must confess I have fallen short on a lot of the tips you have given. Especially #1. I worked really hard on my book and then got in out on Amazon Kindle, but now I am in the "dark" in a way since I did not utilize marketing before putting out my book. I missed out on that hype that can come with an impending debut. So, besides working on #1 and expanding my marketing to try and get readers to my book, I am also going to work on making an event. I think that would be great, even if it is only in the community in which I live. One step at a time. However, since watching this video, I have a better sense of what to do for my sequel. Thanks Pat!
All great tips. I watched the video twice and took notes the second time. I especially like the ideas for the launch team and the book club. #InLikeFlynn
Not thinking of writing a book at the moment, but the advice is so good it can be applied to other products as well. The book club can become a meetup for an online course. Pat, thanks for all your great advice! #InLikeFlynn
Great actionable stuff! Cheers Pat! I really like Jeff Goins advice about raising the price. It is something that I have tried before with success but it still the biggest hurdle of mine, so that is the main one that I will be trying to play around with in order to get more interest from invested buyers.
#InLikeFlynn. I found #tip 2 build a street team very interesting. I hadn't thought of having the audience so actively involved in the development the book itself.
Thanks for the advice - my book, THE WRETCHED, on Amazon, was submitted with little fanfare by my publisher - they kind of published a day or two after the contract was signed with zero hype. I understand, they are a small publisher, but I was surprised. Now the marketing has fallen all on my shoulders and I'm trying everything I can to get into the hands of readers - this video was very helpful. I like a lot of the tips, but believe I'll focus on the last few the most and see where that takes me. Wish me luck!
Pat, Great Stuff!!! I am still in the process of writing, so I am going to take advantage of tip #1. Putting myself out there to friends, family and business associatiates will do 2 things. First, like you said, it will help begin the marketing process, but 2nd, it will also hold me more accountable and I am more likely to work on it each and every day to complete what I said I would. #InLikeFlynn
Great video with great tips! I especially liked the podcast and facebook group. (have no idea how to do either!) But great ideas and thank you for your time and information!
You are very gifted and I so appreciate your thoughtful tips! I just finished the manuscript to my first young reader's book and you gave me a brilliant idea to include a marketing activity in the book. My story is about finding your childhood spirit, and so I'm going to include an exercise where you write down something you haven't done since you were a kid and then either share a picture or a video with the book title #matilda&theforestfriends. You are the best and I can't wait to check out your books now. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this very helpful set of tips! I'm definitely going to work on the street team for my next series, but I'm also interested in the book club idea as it combines two techniques I hadn't thought I had time for. Thanks again!
Hi, thank you for this wonderful video! I plan on doing a "behind-the-scenes" look for my fans. I recently worked through several edits with my editor that I think would be fun to show people how it works. There are other tips I plan to implement but I like to start with one thing at a time.
Your idea about audience engagement jumps out to me the most. I've got a children's book coming out (geared towards 10-year-olds, called "5th Grade Challenge"). It's full of new vocabulary words to boost their language skills, and at the end of the chapter there are reflection questions that are meant to be read between parents and children. For audience engagement, I'll ask parents to answer these questions themselves (on camera). Thanks for the idea and the advice.
Have a new book coming out 27th Feb., called Diamond, a Romance Murder Mystery set in Penticton. I can use all of these tips but interested in the podcast.
Pat, this is brilliant - the best video I’ve seen on the subject! I’ve just finished the first draft of my first book, for launch in June. I’ve been planning my marketing from day one - including building my launch team (my cheerleaders ☺️). I’m even being interviewed on local radio this week 😍😮 I’ll now be including your strategies and have subscribed to your channel. Thank you! 😊👋🏼
Excellent advice as always. I found tip #1 to be the most useful - start before you write the book. That one seems the scariest but is absolutely necessary! #InLikeFlynn
Thanks Pat. Very useful video. I am literally two breaths away from uploading my first book onto Amazon ( bit of proofreading still remains). Should I do the announcement on social media before uploading it on Amazon? I suspect it will drown in the number of books that are being self published. I see many suggestions as doable, especially the creating the street team for reviews. About the event....any suggestions on where it should be held? Further, tried bookclub.com; doesn't exist.
I love the idea of creating a book club! I did start a blog for noir fiction reviews that I think I'll call a book club because I can then ask others to add their thoughts in the comment section. Great ideas! Thanks so much. I just subscribed. Yay 2020.
Wow! Thank you for the brilliant info! I just subscribed, and I'm going to try all of these tips. Thank you! Happy New Year! Happy New decade!
Thanks Laurel, you got this!

My problem! I wanted to hide the fact that I'm writing so that when I finally do get published it comes as a splash
@Tips in relationships Lol. your book only has 2 reviews and they all are 1star. lol
Hi Kindlepreneur, my best marketing tool is to add the link of my poetry book: www.amazon.com/dp/B083TRSWWG here so you can read it, and have fun with it. And "Poetry" Do Sells.

My client's book (also a children's book) ranked 9th in General Humorous Fiction category when we did this.
Also, doing this within the first week from the publish date is crucial.
Good luck🤗

I loved the sharing of the behind the scenes and raising the price to create urgency. Going to implement the same. Thank you.
The first and last tips were amazing. I just got a publishing deal and I want to get a head start on promoting. This saved me. Thank you!
I literally can't pick one as the best tip but keeping the audience engaged via social media stood out to me. I know I like to feel involved in my interests so I will definitely do this when I publish my book.

Great video. I really like tip for a call to action like taking a picture of you reading the book and the tip for events and promotions.
Thanks, I have been promoted many books for my clients by applying my awesome tricks. Have a good day!

Thanks so much for these tips Pat! Means a lot.
This information is pure gold, thank you so mucho for sharing this.
I like the idea of talking about the book creating process. I agree that people like to see what happens behind the scenes. I have a book coming in a month so will embrace this technique ASAP.

Thanks Pat. Such an honor to have helped you launch your book with the Street / Launch Team. Great tips in this video overall too! Well done.
Thank you. Lots of great ideas. I should have started earlier!!
Better now than never!
Thanks for the great ideas! They are community focussed, which I like and haven't heard before elsewhere.
great video @Pat - I like the idea of a launch club most :)
Hey man thank you for the advice the built in marketing seems like the hardest one to do with my topic look foreword to applying some concepts
Thanks so much, Pat. Great idea about creating events. It should be so obvious, but somehow we never thought of it. Great video Pat, thank you for share. For sure 7 of 9 tips i will use for my newest ebook.
Love the 9 Tips! My favorite, build a launch team, you can try to do it all on your own. But, working with a team is MAGIC! Build a Launch team.

Great tips!! Number 8&9 are awesome
I like these tips. I plan to create a launch for my upcoming children’s book
Good luck! I'm also launching a children's book this summer.
A wesome! Keep us posted
Awesome! I would say #1 & #2 are most on my radar at the moment! xx

These were all interesting, and doable. Thank you.
I really like your video. Such great information! I have already hinted to people about what i'm writing.
Powerful usable information! Thanks a million, Pat!!
Thanks for all the awesome tips. I definitely need to put some of them in practice.
I would say Tip #1 hit home with me. Thank you Pat. All the tips are very useful as well.
The event one is good....Anniversary of when I was inspired to start writing my book is coming up so will think about using that..thanks...great video
Great info! I am a new author! definitely use all of your tips!
Thank you, Pat. The idea of a book club sparked with me. All your tips shine. :-)
Thanks Pat!
Great video! I try so hard(and see no results)I am hopeful with your tips and tricks for promoting my thriller books in a better way.
#InLikeFlynn
great tips! Thanks for sharing!
Pat, Thank You - Please guide, about an idea to drive a physical sales on busy streets (when the content is meant for sales person)
Great tips, thank you for sharing!
Hi, I will do an extra Website for it. Thanks so much for yozr creativ approach.
I am writing a 'how to' book on writing characters who are disabled. I already mentioned that I have writen some of it.
Wish me luck!
see my OP
Thanks! Now I can market my first book!
#InLikeFlynn
i love the idea to create a lunch team books
Great video with great tips! I especially liked the podcast and facebook group. (have no idea how to do either!) But great ideas and thank you for your time and information!
Thank you Louise!
Exactly! You got this Wanda!
I can’t wait to use these on my next campaign! Thanks Pat! Gotta love being #InLikeFlynnGreat content!
Have a new book coming out 27th Feb., called Diamond, a Romance Murder Mystery set in Penticton. I can use all of these tips but interested in the podcast.
Start marketing it before it's published? Good call! Great video.
Great ideas! I never thought before about creating a FB group to allow people to 'watch' the process as I go along with it's creation.
Subbed for the hoverboard, NOW I'll watch your video. heheh NICE PROPS!
I always come away from these videos learning SO MUCH in such a short period of time! Keep the great information coming and I'll be #InLikeFlynn
Thank you! 😊👋🏼
Thank you for this video. It has helped me so much. I really can't say which is my favorite but the idea of airplane was so cute.
I really liked the Virtual Book Tour idea! Thanks!
Excellent advice as always. I found tip #1 to be the most useful - start before you write the book. That one seems the scariest but is absolutely necessary! #InLikeFlynn
I liked that you asked people to do something such as the paper airplane.
I really liked your tip; giving away free e versions of your book. I never knew that was a thing, and I will definitely be looking into that!
You got this!
@@patflynn thanks Pat. Would you mind being more specific please? 😍
Especially with regards to announcements on social media? Thank you.
I love the idea of creating a book club! I did start a blog for noir fiction reviews that I think I'll call a book club because I can then ask others to add their thoughts in the comment section. Great ideas! Thanks so much. I just subscribed. Yay 2020.
