Thanks for all your videos. My experience matches the results you describe. I published the first book in a series in Feb of this year. The second is almost finished, but I’ve not published anything else so far. Genre: Mystery/Thriller/Suspense.
I’ve spent close to $900 on advertising through various promo sites and Amazon ads. The goal was to drive reviews and gain followers. It worked. I’ve given away over 6,500 copies, but paid sales are under 200 copies. I’ve gained 67 reviews with a 4.2 star average, and about as many followers on Amazon. I also spent close to $2,000 on editing/proofreading/and cover design. I’m on cover number 5. It goes without saying, I lost money, but built a foundation for the rest of the series. I’ve experimented with at least 10 different descriptions. I’ve revised ad copy a dozen times or more. It’s been a learning experience, and despite the cost (well under the price of a single semester in college) I think it was worth it, but if you promote/market a single book, you will lose money.
With all that said, I think I can write, edit, cover, format and publish the second book in the series for under $1,000 out the door. Marketing costs will be in addition to that total, but I couldn’t do it for that if I hadn’t made all those mistakes the first time around. Without your content, it would have cost me much more.
Thanks again. You’ve been a big help.
