Thank you so much for all the helpful tips and advice! It's really helped me plan and feel confident about putting my first book out there when it's finished!
31 comments in this one... nice!!! Alright so I'm totally out of place on every one of these today but the next on will definitely be back on track. Good information by the way- has been so far in everyone. You are a winner, and on to the next one👍
Derek, why do I get more sales pushing my book at $3.99 than 99c? I'd love to knock it out at 99c to get more units shifted and get more reviews, but it doesn't work. It's children's/adult fantasy.
Thank you so much. I just uploaded Flying On The Ground by HD Maxwell. Now, according to you I have work to do ;) Tomorrow your vid on getting reviews.
How do you start? When you have a list and or following great. However, when you start you have nothing, no following no email list, Zero. So how do you start getting reviews and likes and followers.
I know exactly what you mean, my book was awesome but, due to lack of marketing and promotion. I would like to relounch it. This time I will keep it at .99 cents to get reviews. Then submit that book to all review sites. I also did not make a Create Space and Auditable. Spending money was what I did not do!! Can I just have a lead magnet, like the first book( "Free") then sell that list on the next Lounch of a Catagory specific book that gives them even more value. Selling that second and 3rd ext books.
Thank you for this. I am actually going to put my book on for 99p for a while at least, as i know from my own expierence if im in bed looking for a book, just to read to fall asleep, for 99p i will get it. If it is terrible that's ok. No hard feeling's and will probably finish it anyway.
Thanks Derek. Outside of reviews, do you see anything else that I need to work on? My (Celena Owens) first book is "Ishshahs: Basic Cornerstones for Marriage". Thank you very much for any help you can offer me.
That's a fantastic idea, once I FINALLY get my book on Amazon (you do that through CreateSpace, right?), I'll let it out for free for a week or so! Hopefully that'll get some reviews, and hopefully they won't ALL be negative lol Then after that, about a week of discount, and finally after that then I'll leave it at its full price which I think I'll keep relatively low anyways. Already got my second book around 3/4 finished writing (that's on pause since I'm working on editing my first book), so hopefully enough people will like the first that once the second comes out, they'll be happy to buy it at discount (start it off, not free, but at a good discounted price), and perhaps that'll be a good long-term strategy in gaining readership and reviews. Then if I continue the series with a third, then once it's published all three novels will get a good discount once more for a good week or so before returning to full price (the first will always be the cheapest though; I'm intentionally going to keep that one at an affordable price while the following installments will be at a more normal price). Yeah, I like it! I'm not really looking to make money here, it's more of a passion or hobby at this point, but if things go well then perhaps in a year or so I'll start focusing more on making money. Perhaps start publishing on Ingramspark as well so that there's a chance my novels will get hardcover editions and possibly even get on store shelves. It's all about the longterm strategy, I figure. Can't expect to juts start out and automatically people will be jumping to give me money for what spews from my brain. Even WITH all this, my first novels/series could be an utter dud, a pile of stinkers! It's ok to dream big, but it's also important to keep your expectations reasonable. "Hope for the best, but expect the worst." This advice is GOLD! I already know how I'll try to get people's attention when discounting/offering it for free. I assume only the eReader version can be ree though; how could you print a book for free? Amazon isn't going to pay for it, I don't think, and I can't afford to be paying for the books to be printed for whoever might try buying it... so I guess I might just have to keep it at a low discount where it's ONLY the cost of printing covered leaving no money for myself. It's as close to 'free' as I can get...
500 copies a day? Why is it that when I use the Kindle BSR calculators, they tell me that a BSR for some of the books in the categories I look at are only selling 90-120 copies a day? In fact, in order to sell 1000 copies a day, both Kindlepreneur and tck publisher are telling me I need a Kindle BSR of aroun 100!!!!! For the entire Kindle store...
they're mostly an estimate, as it depends what everything else is doing in the market that day. Yes, 1000 sales a day is roughly 100 rank, but not always
+Baron Boyscout hello Baron, yes, this is correct, you launch the book for example the 1st of February, but you keep it to yourself and share it "only" with your tribe and people who are very likely to leave you a review. The idea is to collect a lot of reviews, so that a couple of weeks later, let's say February 12th, you officially launch and share the word all over social media, your webpage, everywhere. When people go on to Amazon and see your book already has a whole bunch of reviews, they will most likely get it!! Hope this makes it clearer!?
the thing is i only get like 1 sale every other day. im obviously not doing something right, also im not sure where u get your keywords from. thanks for the video :) also my ebook covers are really nice...
+morningmayan You can make fb pages to promote, or groups. I'm currently publishing a fantasy book, and made this facebook.com/Chosenintothedarkness/ the images are temporary since the book isn't out yet. But this is how I'm using fb.
I show a lot of sells but I'm not getting any reviews. It's infuriating. I know that I would be doing twice as good if they would just leave a review. I have two books so far.
I'm wary of Kindle free days now because, with my first four books, though it moved a lot of copies, they invariably ended up being sold on Ebay for double the Amazon price, and I resent my readers being ripped off.
At last someone telling it as it is, straightforward and honest information - brilliant MANY THANKS, you have another happy follower.
Thank you for your advice Derek. I've became an #1 Amazon Bestseller.
Great honest information! Looking forward to putting it into action with my upcoming book release. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks a bunch Derek. You really helped me a lot with your knowledge and wisdom.
Thank you so much for all the helpful tips and advice! It's really helped me plan and feel confident about putting my first book out there when it's finished!
I'll be doing ARCs for my next book! And getting reviews as a soft laugh before the big launch and party.
Thank you for sharing this
Now I can't get that song, "Blue Moose of Kentucky" out of my head.

Thank you so much for this video! Like seriously great tips, and very reassuring.
I got a sales rank on me first kindle book but it hasn't actually sold one yet. ???

What do you mean put your book up before you plan to launch? By putting your up, haven't you in fact launched?

Joseph Harkreader Thank you so much!
The ONLY way to become an Amazon bestseller is to write a book lots of people want to read then market it at a price people will pay for it.
I show a lot of sells but I'm not getting any reviews. It's infuriating. I know that I would be doing twice as good if they would just leave a review. I have two books so far.

Who the fuck sells 500,000 other than the big boys? WTF?
Yeah, your book costs you $10 each to produce and you sell it for 99 cents?
Digital assets like eBooks don't cost anything. Amazon give your a higher percentage of royalties because of that vs. hard paperback copy.
