I think it's because of the confusing target audience. The Lego animation alienated adults given Legos are seen as a kids thing by a majority of adults plus making them think this was strictly a kids movie, and kids don't know Pharrell Williams outside of Despicable Me music but even then I don't imagine kids being hyped to go see Pharrell Williams talk about himself as a Lego

Everyone who grew up with the Lego movie, %100 knows about Pharrell Williams. Lego as a brand has existed for decades. It is entirely possible for the main audience to be kids-young adults.
Transformers as a brand is clearly aimed at kids, but it has existed for over 30 years. Grandparents could’ve grown up watching Transformers. You could easily make the case that Transformers One is made for both their main audience of kids and the young adults who grew up watching the original shows. Same could be said for any brand that has existed for decades.

It's such an odd time in movies. The studios are trying some _really_ interesting, daring niche concepts, and I look at them and I just... feel nothing. I think it's like, part of me insists, 'This cannot be real'. And if it can't be real, I can't register an emotion. This made me feel that way. Hearing that Joker 2 would be a musical made me feel that way. Don't even get me started on the Phil Collins biopic set in GTA. I just... How can anyone have a reaction to that other than bewilderment?

My son and I saw it twice it was that GOOD and was planning to see it a 3rd but it’s gone from the theaters ☹It had me laughing, crying, dancing, singing but I think they just didn’t promote it enough. I don’t think I would’ve even heard about it if I hadn’t seen the preview at the Bad Boys movie and another movie (can’t remember which one) most people I asked about it say they’d never heard of it. I just think they didn’t promote it or push it enough aka marketing.

Personally I was really worried about this film bc when the first trailer came out I only found out about it on a community post. So far it hasn’t come out in the UK where I am (So it might be a bit of a Transformers One situation as it came out a month later almost) but so far I have seen no marketing for this film. To put it in perspective in London they have posters on buses to promote them at least a few weeks before but so far I’ve seen none even though it releases here in less than two weeks. And whilst it might make some good money in the UK Box Office but with Paddington 3 coming out on the same day the odds might not be that high. But personally I’m really excited for this film.
P.S sorry for rambling on for so long lol

I personally didn’t see Joker 2 or The Wild Robot because those didn’t interest me, but I did see this one day and Saturday Night the next so two movies that a lot of people didn’t see. This became my third favorite movie of the year though following behind Deadpool &Wolverine and Inside Out 2 (and not counting my rewatch of Howls Moving Castle). Highly recommend

This was basically an episode of MTV Cribs. "Look how rich and famous I am! Look how awesome being a celebrity is!!!" There was no spice. No intrigue. Biopics are interesting when we see the subject's struggle and how they overcame them. Pharrell was just handed his fame by being in the right places at the right time.

As a LEGO fan on The set/product side i think the Spaceship was to do more with representation as the Heads to me are the main attraction its partly the reason i want to buy it at £90 it should be cheaper to get it in more hands but next year I'm grabbing it simply for that, the build is alright, i thought the ship was the one we saw with Daft Punk a missed opportunity. I feel like more could have been done at least a CMF series or a couple of sets from Atlanta, a recording studio set, interview set, his house idkm i agree with Ashnflash and missed opportunity, vignette style sets or even a 4 pack like the Tales of the space age set could have worked.

Tons of movies made today would be rated G 20 years ago, but they want the PG rating because it's more profitable. Even though PG stands for parental guidance, most parents won't even bother watching PG movies with their kids.

It was literally what Pharrell described it as, it was a biopic told in lego he wanted to do it to express the creativity/colour it was more a visual medium thing i think it could have worked as a normal biopic but the charm would have been lost/it would have been more dramatised/acted. It's not a Lego Movie it's a Movie in Lego it's not the same but i get the disconnect/confusion people are having. It was good and a satisfying story/a good slice into his story again i didn't know he had so much impact on the industry like that, so as a non fan Piece by Piece was at least interesting and engaging once you get over it being Lego it just works.
It was great/far better than i expected, i like the fact he didn't really tell the artists he was gonna do it in Lego as he was right they would have toned down their a answers, they were far more genuine as they didn't know. I'm not his biggest fan but i didn't realise he collaborates with that many artists, i also liked seeing his past with The Neptune's i liked that it was serious the BLM bit was crazy and very interesting, the humour and how they got past certain things bikini LEGOS, PG Spray and cursing 🤣🤣🤣 it was hilarious as it was clever.

  • @mbphilipblack8993
    @mbphilipblack8993 22 дні тому

Interesting take, but i disagree that it was a bad movie. The confusion lies ij the fact its a Movie in Lego not a "Lego Movie" i.e The Lego Movie 1 and 2nd part, Ninjago and Batman designed to entertain this was a Biopic, a documentary about his life so it was going to focus on him. I agree seeing more of the setbacks and the falling out/split of The Neptune's could have added but it could just be implied.
He was in a creative rut/hit a wall due to the loss of his grandmother, a key part in his development/passion for music, he became overconfident and lost track of his purpose for creating music ij the 1st place, he got used/played himself by signing deals with Corpos and when he failed they left him but his wife, friends and family stuck by him, inspired him so he was able to bounce back with Collabs with Daft Punk and his solo career in Happy, Freedom songs for the Minions films. Idk maybe you missed these moments or got distracted because of the disconnect of it being in Lego if it was the interviews without it, it may have been clearer.
But i surprisingly worked and was still raw/genuine. I liked it and I'm someone who didn't care for Pharrell all that much but i learnt that he did have an impact/do a lot for the music industry, but i do have bias as its LEGO, i Love Lego so was interested/gets a boost because of that 😮‍💨 lol.

This movie was so bad. It’s literally just Pharrell flexing his career and then market placing. And then he gives this bland “don’t give up” message.

Not hating, but I think it failed because it only appealed to black people, which are a small percentage of the population (aka potential viewers). Nobody other than pop and rap fans really cares that Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z are in it.

I dont understand your confusion. Nobody watched the movie because there is no appeal for them. It only appealed to black people because Pharrell is a black artist. Its ironic that black people only see race until its time to sell something. And I know what youre about to say: “Pharrell makes music for all people”. When in reality, when you racialize a product, you marginalize that product to the race to appeal to.
Its stupid I know, but that is how blavk people function.

@@jf47249 so if it was a white artist it would only appeal to white people or are black people just different just because. Also how did Pharrell racialize this? That’s like saying a documentary about Asian people can only be enjoyed and understood by Asian people. And how do you know how black people function?
