I kinda like that this movie is entirely unrelated to the WB Lego movies because this one definitely feels like the Lego animation style has the potential of becoming more of an artistic medium that is agnostic to the plot as opposed to it being a "Lego Movie." There is so much creativity available in having animation expressed as Lego that has a real chance of going in unexplored directions for future projects.
I think that it still had a few Easter eggs to the movies like the batman suit in pharell's house and the Octan logo in the Japanese guy's garage. Cool little background details.
I'm glad you guys covered this movie! I've loved Pharrell's work for an extremely long time; however, I was confused as to why this would be a Lego movie and not just a straight documentary. I didn't even think to consider the use of synesthesia and literally being able to "gift" someone a physical object that represents a beat. I'm even more excited to go and vibe along to the music and his history now. Great job and keep up the awesome work!
@CinemaTherapyReviews Literally just finished it. As someone who absolutely love music documentaries, I adored this movie. I've never wanted to sit on a Lego beach so much before, but here we are lol. Thanks for doing this review!
im from the area and get told a lot about his impact. they all didnt go to high school together but met in high school. the tidewater virginia area in the 90's and 2000's was crazy, so many artist came from the time. i was born in 03 (20) but so many older people tell me stories about partying at the beach. it sucks tho cause the hype has died down the past two decades.the ending of the movie is supposed to kinda represent pharrell and the other artists bringing music back to the area.tbh its been kinda working but theres not really any music labels or studios that do much for the area besides one that pusha t owns. pharrells been more so focusing on just throwing big festivals rather than building any studios
I came to this movie as more of a LEGO enthusiast than a Pharrell fan... That said... I loved this movie! I loved the creativity, I loved the more heartfelt moments, and several times I laughed out loud! Also... I *need* a extra tall Snoop Dogg mini fig! 😂
Honestly I'm kind of sad that they only have one showing every couple hours at my local theater and the big one at my mall is not even showing it which makes me kind of sad! I watched it last night and really enjoyed it I'd say more of an 8 and a half for me personally because how he sees music is how I get into it when it comes to things like metal and my personal favorite bands and how it feels to play guitar for me how I just get into it and let the music kind of flow through me! Sadly unlike himself I am not a Creator I can only play things that are there I just lack that kind of imagination. :( What really funny note was.. everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the theater it was about halfway full a few families as well. One guy who was by himself (no shaming! I did that too!) was ok... Until a certain Kendrick song came on. He started ranting about "politics" but was shut up VERY quickly by a family nearby. Lol i mean the whole MOVIE was based in"struggle" bro... Did you miss it?? Lol
Please do an episode on the anime movie that had a US theatrical release recently called "Look Back" The movie was really good and had a lot to talk about from a therapeutic perspective. Definitely give the film a watch
I'm going to see this one tonight, I was on the fence about it, but after watching your review, I think I will enjoy it. Another movie that's out right now that I think you would both enjoy is White Bird. I feel like it's not getting nearly the attention it deserves. Fair warning, bring tissues.
The thing I want to know is this: was there any significant part of the movie that you felt like had to be done in LEGO, versus more traditional animation techniques that had the same amount of care put into them?

Totally agree!

I watched the movie with my family and it was amazing. It was cool that so the adults in the theater laughed when we saw the "pg spray" 😂😂😂
What a great gag! 😂

Pharrell seems so intriguing. I bet he'd be an incredible conversationalist.
We agree!

Yeah that movie is fantastic.
I’ve been wanting a new Lego movie for a few years now, so if this is as good as ya’ll say it is then I’ll give it a shot
Jono has a massage chair! 9/10.
