The Fall of The LEGO Movies
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 бер 2024
- 10 years ago, The LEGO Movie surprised pretty much everyone by being one of the best films of 2014 and proved to be a critically and financially successful franchise going forward. Today though, after a string of poor decisions and box office failures, the future of the franchise is looking rather bleak.

I feel like if The Lego Movie 2 was released 5 years after the original *without any spin-off films (like Lego Batman or Lego Ninjago),* then Lego 2‘s box office would’ve been just as successful as, if not more then the original.
exactly, I only watched those 2 and it felt quite fresh... but if you were following all those in the middle, I can see how fatigue would be a factor
The Lego Movie 2 was supposed to came out in 2017 but got delayed because Lord and Miller were busy doing other projects and WB instead fast tracked the spin off movies that didn't necessarily need Lord and Miller as writers
@@15CandlesWas Spider-Verse one of those projects?
@@talhahhussain5603 Obviously, they were in production of Spider Verse for 4 years and remember that they were also attached to direct a Han Solo spin off movie but got fired after halfway through of filming. I actually really like the Lego Ninjago show and when I heard about the fact that they were making a movie I was very excited but when I actually watched the movie I thought that it was a lot worse than the show.
I liked the movie, but I only saw it once in the theaters when I was, like 10 or 11. Take that as you will.
I'm a huge fan of the show (until the pirate thing) so yeah given what comes before it and how well the show tells it's characters, it's pretty dissapointing that the movie seemed like a cheap knock off of the show
@@15CandlesAGREED
@@15Candles you can call yourself a huge Fan if that makes you happy, but watching 6 from 15 seasons and a sequelshow where season 2 is airing right now on french is not that much.
There was really no reason to make the Ninjago movie a Ninjago movie. They could have had completely different characters doing whatever, and it would have been exactly the same, if not better.
Really glad Spider-Verse didn’t suffer the same fate as the Lego movies.
Where a bunch of miscellaneous spin-offs separated from the first film get pumped out at nausea before a true sequel comes out and thus public interest in the sequel dies down by the time it actually comes out.
I was honestly kinda worried, when they announced a Spider-Women spinoff right alongside their announcement of ITSV 2; especially with how Sony's been milking their Spider-Man villain universe that is infinitely _less_ successful than Spider-Verse. But I'm glad that they made the right choice in the end and prioritized the main film series over the spinoffs.
@@StardustWhipwhen the main triology ends I actually don’t oppose to some spinoffs
This is why I hope, for Nintendo's sake, that this "follow-up" to the Mario movie is a sequel. I know that we're getting spin-offs for Luigi and Donkey Kong, but I don't want them just yet. All these people saying "We're gonna get Rosalina, and Wario, and Waluigi, etc" have no idea how much they're putting the cart before the horse.
Let's get a sequel that will be infinitely better than the first movie because Mario and Luigi are going on an actual adventure together.
@@StardustWhip This can't be the Mandela effect, but I'm sure John Mulaney talked about pitching a spin-off movie about Spider-Ham. Considering how beloved Rocket Raccoon is and the huge success of Zootopia, I'm baffled that Sony hasn't even taken advantage of that and had an animal-themed superhero movie.

While I wouldn’t call it bad, I was surprised at how aggressively mediocre Lego Movie 2 was. By the end I was thinking "wtf was this movie".
We just need to stop Mike Mitchell from writing shit
I literally fell asleep about halfway through the movie, the only time I was up and excited while watching was the "Catchy Song" and that's about it which made me think "how is the song alone better than the rest of the movie??"

Lego Ninjago was pretty popular here in Finland during my childhood and I still hold the first couple of seasons very near and dear to me. Should probably rewatch them someday
I'm American, and Ninjago is my favorite show. I always heard it was way more popular in Europe (especially Germany).
@@anishkajan342 i live in Germany and Ninjago is very popular under small Kids. But there are not that much older Ninjago Fans like me
Same here in Greece, unfortunately they weren't a lot of episodes on TV. You had to buy the CDs
The Lego Movie was the definition of "capturing lightning in a bottle". It's a movie that nobody was anticipating the level of success that it had both critically and financially. So you can feel the pressure from the filmmakers and the studio to catch up with the success but seemed to not understand what made the first movie so great in the first place. The Lego Batman Movie did it so well but unfortunately Lego Ninjago and The Lego Movie 2 kinda misunderstood it, that last two movies seemed like the movie that everybody feared that The Lego Movie would've been like if it was treated the wrong way and that's a shame as Lord and Miller were the writers of the The Lego Movie 2
Unikitty! is probably underrated. As somebody who became obsessed with it shortly after release, made OCs, wrote an alternate universe concept, and became THE head moderator in a fan community dedicated to that show for like 3 years... I guess you could say I've heard of it.
I was a weird teen. Can't say I've changed much.

Fun fact: There was a cancelled Legends of Chima movie called Time of Heroes. It was going to be set after the events of the Fire Vs Ice season. It was set for a December 2015 release. But for unknown reasons it got cancelled. This was probably because the theme was planned to get discontinued in 2016.
By the quality of the movie poster was it gonna be Theatrical or a Cartoon Network Movie
@@Kal-elego I'm not really sure.
What sucks for me is that they were going to bring Bionicle back for these movies.
Takanuva was going to be in The Lego Movie 2 as a counter for Rex since he is the Toa of Light. Emit's own shoulder angels. whenever Rex would try to get Emit to do something bad, Taka would convince him not to. but Taka was cut because he might have interfered with the plot too much.
This really sucks because I still have a lot of love for Bionicle. I have my toys from when I was a kid on display on my shelves. but, hopefully we'll see the Toas again in the future someday.
Aw, man, I also miss Bionicle. It was a huge part of my childhood, and I would love to see them return provided it was thoughtfully and lovingly done.
I remember watching every single trailer and clip over and over again as a kid, counting down the days till the first movie came out. Then when they teased a sequel in a behind the scenes video, I got hyped and counted the years again for it.
I still have The Lego Movie, Lego Batman, and the Clutch powers movie on dvd.
The Lego Movie was without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time, and the second one was... ok at best. Not bad, but can't hold a candle to the first.
After watching this video I feel old.
I could not have agreed more when it came to the ninjago film. Sometimes I forget it even existed due to the writing of the film and the characters that honestly disappointed me when I was actually excited for the film and just pretened that it was never made. At the same time tho, I get that it did and wanted to bring in new viewers to the fandom, I do also feel that shouldnt have been as an insult to the those who were fans of the fan base before the movie. The very few things that I liked (and were even somewhat similar to the show), was that not everything was lego, which I loved about the show. It felt new and different that was almost like a breath of fresh air when it came to lego animated shows. But thats just me.
tbf, within the fandom people will still use the "La-Loyd" joke that Garmadon made
If your curious on how ninjago is doing:
Season 4: A tournament arc (very good)
Season 5: ghosts themed (very good)
Season 6: about pirates and wishes (kinda mixed)
Season 7: about time travel (kinda sucks)
Season 8-10: a trilogy about garmadon and the oni (FUCKING PERFECT, from here onwards the artstyle has also changed to the movie designs, trust me, the show’s version of the movie designs look WAY better than the actual movie)
From seasons 11-16, the episodes are 11 minutes instead of 22 minutes
Season 11: first half is fire themed, second half is ice themed (ice chapter is the better one, but the whole is kinda bad)
Season 12: video game themed (alright)
Season 13: about cole’s mom and a new kingdom (pretty good)
Season 14: about a mysterious island(alright, but it’s only 4 episodes)
Season 15: about the sea (Really good)
Season 16: the finale and brings back some villains (alright)
Dragons rising: a new series/reboot that’s about all the realms merging together into one (AMAZING, also the longest season with 20 episodes 22 minutes each)
As for unikitty, as someone who’s watched all of it (i had nothing else to do) it’s alright
IN CONCLUSION: DRAGONS RISING IS THE BEST TIME TO COME BACK (if you stopped watching it) AND WATCH NINJAGO SOOOOO GOO WATCH ITTTTTTTT
Remember when the show was about finding the green ninja and training Lloyd to defeat his father and it actually had an ending? That was nice.
Huhhh??? There's so much of it??? Damn. I always felt like I saw a lot of it as a child but I don't think I watched past season 5. And even that I barely remember. But tbf I was probably outgrowing that show around the tournament arc in season 4. I still have a lot of fond memories of it tho and sometimes me, my brother and my mother reminisce about how fun it was (the robot reveal moment went platinum in our household)

Man, I loved The LEGO Batman Movie and I was so sad when I realized we weren't going to get the sequel because of Warner Bros. selling the franchise rights. That is the only LEGO movie I want to see from the LEGO franchise.
Considering the current state of warner bros....losing the rights might've been a good call
You know, personally my favorite part of the lego movies are Emmet's speeches (his first one in particular) because of how much seriousness and care were put in to them, that and the switch between the Lego world and Real world was a nice touch.
One thing that couldn't be helped was that the novelty couldn't last forever. The plot twist that the "Man Upstairs" is a Lego hobbyist, and his son just wanted to play with his Lego collection, was something that couldn't be replicated.
3:14 I realised how funny it is that most of their movies end with taking a (usually) rectangular object to the centre of the bad thing to stop it
Still upset that this series ended up dying out because there's loads of potential for theatrical Lego films.
The fact that the sequel to Lego Batman was going to be a Justice League movie seemed like a missed opportunity.
bro that chevy ad was so random 😭🙏
I had to go back after laughing so hard
Universal will be releasing a new lego movie this year, being a biographic film of Pharrell Williams which he unveiled the poster for on Twitter. Plus there are rumors for Lego sets from the movie that will be releasing later this year.
Its not the same
Are you serious? Why? Who thinks thats going to be successful?? ://
Hard to believe that The Lego Movie is 10 years old. It's good to see a film that's technically an advertisement for Lego's actually ended up being one of the top animated films to ever exist.
Ninjago Movie could have been about how kids twist the normal story into their own version. This would have allowed the flanderized characters to exist while providing a potential motive. This could act as a "reversal" of the original Lego Movie's message. Someone taking what you built and destroying it without caring about what you feel/think.
Lost judgement is the PEAK of yakuza combat
The first Lego Movie had a video game tie-in that was surprisingly good for being a tie-in game, owing to the overall quality of the Lego adaptation games made by the same developers.
The second one? The only game in the series that is considered bad. The mediocrity is strong with this one.
What's downright hilarious is that when Lego moved from Warner Bros to Universal, Emmett and Benny went with them. They changed their names to Mario and Luigi.
Wait did they?
@@saber2802Emmett and Benny’s VA’s (Chris Pratt and Charlie Day) ended up playing Mario and Luigi in the Mario Movie!
In a time before time there was one not any Lego movies. This was an era of legends! The Time of The Bionicle. We all came from our homelands and stuck out to hear the chronicle.
Man i still remember when the first one came out. Geniunely miss 2014
Honestly, The Batman Lego movie was amazing. I kinda didn't process that the franchise was dying when I watched it, it just seemed so full of talent and good writing to me (ignoring the dumb WB property push)
It was fire
Hot Take: I enjoyed The LEGO Movie 2. It is Mike Mitchell's best film, but that doesn't mean I trust him to direct another film from a famous IP after what he did with Kung Fu Panda 4.
Also, the one thing I love from the sequel more than the first is the villain.
Lord Business is a decent threat, but the character kinda lacks depth and acts just as another control freak villain. Yes, we later find out the character is inspired by the boy's father, who doesn't want him to play with his legos, but other than a line, he mentions that nobody ever told him he was special, he's not as intresting as the main characters.
Rex Dangervest is not only a funny and threatening villain, but we already know him. SPOILERS, if you never saw the film, Rex is a future version of Emmet, in which his timeline, nobody rescue him while trying to save his friends. Stuck inside a dryer for years while watching all his friends dancing and remembering all the times everyone called him out for not being tough, made him bitter and change his whole identity. Remember, Emmet was lonely even before becoming the special, he had no friends, no family, just him, and a pet plant. And after finally making new friends and saving the world, he believed his friends abandoned him because they didn't bother to search him, which is why he created a time machine to save his past self, to make him the tough person Lucy "would be proud of" and provoke ourmomageddon, so everyone will get trapped in the bin of storag, and get a taste of what was it like to unable to move in one place.
He's one of the few villains I wouldn't mind if he had won, because he has the right to revenge, but that also allowed Lucy and everyone else to see their errors of their ways (Lucy trying to be a tough person and ignoring his past, the master builder's being tough for the sake of survive, and the gang and the systar system trying to make everything awesome and ignoring the cruelity truth that not everything is awesome) and change for the better.
I know I sound like I'm overanalyzing a sequel people just found to be okay, but it's true
I feel like they should've made Lucy to be close-minded and bigoted towards other types of LEGO

It always annoyed me that the lego Ninjago movie was so mid. The actual ninjago series was probably one of the best things to come out of 2010 CN (aside from the big 3 and steven universe) just a really fun show with surprisingly good story telling and action. But the movie just went for its own approach, prioritising comedy over actual storytelling
The fact that they didn't use Spinjitzu in the movie which is a trademark in the entire show is pretty dissapointing

The Lego Batman movie might not have IMO been as good in plot as The Lego Movie 1, but the humor still makes it worth watching, and anyone who defends the other aspects have perfectly valid opinions. The Lego Ninjago Movie, on the other hand, is not even worth watching, though it at least led the 2 new fans from it into one of that show's best seasons. Also, I decided not to watch the second part because of how worse it is.
EDIT: I just remembered that I love the mech designs in The Lego Ninjago Movie. That's one of few things I like about it.

I think I watched a some of the unikitty tv show and the only two episode plots I remember is one about unikitty pretending to be a robot in some robot fighting thing, and a desert heist and with a joke about a quadruple double cross with characters magically sitting on a chair just to rotate it.
The Lego movie franchise for those who are confused died with the Warner Brothers partnership Also, remember, they not only on a Batman and DC comics but they also own Emmet, wild style, Unikitty and metal beard. Also with Lego Ninjago, I think a lot of the key audience had moved on. Most of the kids who watched ninjago were teenagers at that point, to whom ninjago was a fond childhood memory, not something worth dropping $15 on a movie ticket for.
