Reading TRIVIA from the Smash Ultimate WIKI

- Going through the Smash Wiki to find any neat trivia! Yeah, that's the premise. It's really not that different from my normal videos, but I think different formats like this can help spice things up :)
Like I mention in the video, I'm focusing on the "trivia" section at the bottom of each page, so if there's anything else scattered throughout the wiki that you noticed, please comment about it and I can add it to a future video!
And hopefully we'll be able to do more of these, so any support is much appreciated

Video starts at 0:00, you’re welcome
Thank you, I was stuck in the middle of the video and I couldn’t find where to go back to the start
Thank you very much.
Was trying to figure out when it began.
Thanks that’s a big help
You fucking hero
thank you so much, you are a hero
the "buffer stance" in Roy and Chrom's idle is actually Marth's idle, since Roy used to be a clone himself
I love how it's literally just residual stuff from a clone who got cloned
Vestigial animation
Huh, I never thought about that. That's a lot of cloning layers going on there!
Roy and Chrom do revert back to Marth's idle when they hold an item, iirc
@@Eflaene yep
The attention to detail, Trivias actually start at 1:25, the absolute madlad
omg thanks so much youre a hero for telling me when the video starts im going to thank you later thanks
Remind me why this is a detail?
@@ef9752 because it was featured within the video!
@@aydenator2770 oh my fault didn't finish it yet
@@ef9752 it was in the first few minutes of the video, just before the trivias.
The “hell hawk” thing might just be because since the game was made in japan, sakurai felt safe knowing that the word didnt have to be censored in japan. However, just to be safe, he censored it in every other language, even if it doesn’t necessarily have to be censored in those countries. This is just a theory that makes sense to me.
I think it's because the character isn't called Hellhawk outside Japan, and it's not Sakurai doing the censoring. He's just following the localisation.
@@Liggliluff *the vehicle
@@Liggliluff thats also a good point, probably better than mine.
Sakurai has nothing to do with the localizations.
@@LordPhilipJFry thank you. why are smash fans so retarded they think the entire game was made by sakurai himself.
As a 3D modeler, it hurts seeing the wiki and in turn you calling it a "missing texture", or an "untextured spot". To be a nerd, no it can't be untextured because it's not the texture that's missing its the mesh. The model isn't closed, and that's what's making you see through it. You can't texture it because there is nothing there to texture.
Sometimes those "holes" appear from animations instead of it being a problem with the model itself. To fix the wedding Mario problem for example, they would just need to assign those verticies along the edges of where that "hole" is and assign them to the chest and hip bones, because at the moment it looks as though it's following one and not the other, creating a hole because the vert is only following one bone
🤓
I appreciate this type of comment because I struggled for like 10 minutes figuring out what to call it since I have no idea about what's going on in this type of thing lol. I guess just simply calling it "unclosed" would be better? Or just a "hole" for layman's terms. Thank you for clarifying anything though
You know, I frequently edit that wiki, so I could change it.
i don’t frequently edit that wiki but i could change it
Missing texture/untextured areas would still be visible, just not colored properly, right?
3:48 I actually submitted this in one of the Google Forms. Each echo actually shares this. And clones like Roy also share this trait. As well as Pyra/Mythra and Male and Female Byleth. What I didn't know was it was already listed on Smash Wiki, so that's neat. Edit: That idle Chrom and Roy goes into is Marth's idle.
Due to censorships. Ken, Sephiroth, and Kazuya's moves have been renamed:
Blood Wheel
Blood's Gate
Gates of Blood
Everyone's so ducking sensitive nowadays.
10:20 The duplicate pikachu voices that are set at different volumes are most likely for what you were explaining.
It'd be much easier to pull a soundfile that has the volume already set than to have a string of code to play that same sound file and than muting it by a certain percentage. Cool video!
10:27 Yeah, they're basically the same except for volume, I think the voice 3 is the one sometimes played when you jump, voice 26 is for up-b, and voice 32 is for the victory screen
Sakurai: "I'm gonna wait for this person to finish the series before I make any final touch-ups to the game when the last amiibos are getting released!"
Other languages, especially back in the day, often based their translation of the English translation instead of directly from the original Japanese. You see this a lot with Pokémon names, particularly older Pokémon. So it wouldn't surprise me if Blood Hawk is the official name in all other languages because that's how it is in English.
I also just really like seeing attack animations slowed down. Little Z and folks trying to act them made me realize how poorly I could actually recall some of these because of how fast they go by, like Marth/FE clones nair.
Trivia sections are always some of my favorite parts of wiki pages. Hope this becomes a series!
"Blood Hawk" is WAY worse than Hell Hawk, if you know what a Blood Eagle is.
Wouldn't recommend Googling it. If you really want to know, I'll tell you in text below:
It's a Viking ritual execution where the ribs in the back are removed and the lungs are pulled out to resemble a pair of wings.
Beautiful I would go out like that
Yeah I'm a blood hawk.
*where are my lungs?*
oh christ I just got owned by my love of body horror and I'm not even a little bit upset
@@siriuslywastaken You're welcome.
@@siriuslywastaken mf built different
I have theory that in smash 4 Roy was meant to have Marth’s idle but probably later on they wanted to give him something different but it was a bit too far into the process to make every animation transition to it, resulting in what we have now. It got carried into Ultimate and I assume they decided to use the same thing for Chrom to make the two look like they have different personalities.
Also this would’ve speed up development time for the animators.
Or they were lazy
I believe you are right, but in a roundabout way, as I understand, each animation has to follow through to a end state, and this endstate follows in turn to the idle, so it is easier to animate all of a cloned character's animation to this endstate than it would be to create a new one each time since you see it for such a short period of time.
A case of this happening to a non clone would be sheik, she's got her idle animation changed since Smash 4, but all her animations, including the new ones, like down b, transition to her old idle first, for a very short while, and then onto the new one, and this is the case on ultimate as well.
@@mm3k224 yeah you’re right. This games’s animations have to loop back to neutral so it looks natural. Good reply!!
@@PARANOiA1000 Come on now! This Super Smash Bros Ultimate we're talking about here, not a Pokémon game!
@@PARANOiA1000 You mean resourceful. And it's a necessity in the industry.
A entry that I learned from the Wiki that isn't listed in the Trivia section, but actually from the character changes section, is that certain characters revert back to their old idle stances when picking up a small item.
Luigi is one of those characters. When he picks up an item, he reverts back to his old idle stance from the previous games.
Other characters I could find are Mewtwo, Wolf, Lucas, Marth/Lucina, and Roy/Chrom.
In the case of Daisy and Richter, they simply copy their normal counterpart.
Interestingly all these cases include the three SSB4 DLC characters that are veteran fighters.
There are two (and a half) interesting cases:
For Marth/Lucina, not only holding a small item reverts them to their SSB4 idle poses, but their crouching animations do as well. The crouch animation thing looks especially janky, as they go into their new crouch pose, but then transition to their SSB4 ones very abruptly.
For Roy/Chrom the above mentioned thing about reverting to their crouch stance from SSB4 applies here. Additionally, both of their idle stances reverts into Marth's from SSB4, although this was also the case with SSB4 Roy.
For Lucas, he reverts to Ness' SSB4 idle pose when holding a small item. This is leftover from SSB4 Lucas, where the same thing happened.
For those who don't know, when making Lucas in SSB4, they reused a lot of animations from Ness for some reason, despite having his own unique animations from Brawl. My biggest theory why they did that, is that Ness' proportions changed significantly from Brawl to SSB4, and since they are aiming for a more happier expressive Lucas in SSB4, they used SSB4 Ness' model as a base for Lucas instead of using Brawl Lucas. Or... maybe they kinda got lazy with implementing Brawl Lucas' animations, and used Ness' instead. There are several aspects of Lucas in SSB4 that feels pretty rushed (looking intently at both the up air hitbox and the Final Smash).
I think PK Beats actually covered this in an old video. But not the Lucas reverting to SSB4 Ness part
video starts at 1:25 thank me later I know im a hero your welcome
this is a joke you better watch the full video losers >:(
Lol
My HeRo
Hero?!? RNG REFRIENDS??????
I like how when he jokingly writes a comment saying when the video starts, it actually starts at that time
There may never be a day where we run out of smash facts. And I’m saying that as a good thing.
It's so weird that Luigi has so many unpolished animations when it comes to smash 4. Not only does he face wrong with a shield hit, but he also gets that straight ahead look if he holds an item
14:35 It says a lot about how good Ultimate's sound design is when just the sound of the leg moving has enough oomph to it that it still feels like a Hit sound effect is playing there even though it clearly isn't.
This masterpiece video starts at 1:25 (and a half). Yes, I know I’m your hero. No need to thank me, but your welcome.
I love how everyone constantly cites Ultimate as Martinet's 100th Mario performance, but nobody (Not even Guinness afaik) actually bothered to list out these 100 games and...y'know, verify this?
10:40 Jigglypuff experiences the same effect too, except she makes an expression for when she gets grabbed
Charles Martinet's retirement made the timing of watching this vid a little sadder lol
I find it interesting they censored hell hawk but Ken gets away with a move with “hell” in it
There's a strange inconsistency with the word 'Hell' in Smash. 'Hell Hawk', like the video said, is absent in languages aside from Japanese, and the word 'Hell' itself is censored on Shared Content. Weirdly enough, there's not only two, but three seperate instances in the game where 'Hell' is used uncensored, being in Ken, Sephiroth and Kazuya's Tips section
why can't WE curse but the devs can? So unfair!
There's also one in the DK Rap in SSBU. The word 'Hell' got replaced with heck.
I'm pretty sure Hell Hawk isn't censored in Smash, but follows what the localisation of the F-Zero series calls him in each language, right?
it was changed to "heck" since Melee, the original DK Rap did say hell
For Kazuya, it's not just the tips; the move ITSELF has "hell" in the name. And speaking of, Rodin's trophy in Smash 4 also has the word "hell" because it mentions the Gates of Hell (funny enough, that's also what the tips call Sephiroth's down air that the OP mentioned), his bar. And that move of Kazuya's also has a similar name, Hell's Gate.
Mirrored stances were introduced in Smash 4. Yoshi's oversight is more likely to be a carry-over from brawl
I thought this too, when pk mentioned it, I kinda knew something was wrong with that statement lol
I love that Kirby is always the one that survives, it's very fitting of Sakurai to decide that.
Love this series and would love to see it continue! Keep it up!
Thanks for showing these model things, I really like 3D modeling so it’s cool to see even some really polished models need work.
* manifestation of good reception for more episodes *
Imagine, he used to think that this would be a little mini-series!
What I find funny about the whole "Wikipedia can be changed so it's not reliable" never accounted for the thousands of people constantly monitoring it on their own time fixing memes and shit, like one time I did try to jokingly changed the Bacon (food) page to add "food of the gods" and like a minute later I got some notification from someone 1) changing it back and 2) telling me that despite bacon is yes, very good, to stick to facts
Also the fan wikis can be so fucking accurate because nerds do not joke around when they wanna know the random tile that one hidden rare candy is on when you know you will never use it but "it's a hidden item so having it feels more complete than not having it"
oh that dark samus footstep thing is gonna piss me off so much
4:15 I think it's a nice touch, smaus is a gentic copy of samus, and all of it's moves are the metroids understanding of how those moves work, so it copying samus exactly when using tilts looks nice to me.
Really interesting, I'd love to see more of these ngl
This vid was super cool love the content
Great vid as usual dood!
0:40 Wikipedia is actually the most valuable source on the world, if it *is* edited when you see it, not to worry, as long as you make sure to double check after an hour, that's about how long it takes for the mods to fix it
Would love to see more of this series
Would love to see more of this!
9:31 every hungrybox reaction
I'd like to see an episode just focusing on Alts, and the differences in their designs, much like Blood Falcon's Blood Hawk. Lucina has one with a different symbol on her Cape from the rest of them (it has Eyes on it, similar to the Plegian symbols in FE: Awakening, the rest have the Ylissean symbol)
A fun fact about Mario that a lot of people know, but you might not, is that the voice actor for Mario also voices Paarthurnax from Skyrim. For context, Paarthurnax is a dragon with a VERY deep and rumbly voice, so it’s a rather large difference.
Ooh yeah! New video!
this video was pretty nice. I enjoy these little tidbits of useless info and I'm glad I can rely on you to feed my addiction ;)
2:02
Bro the Minecraft Firefly has more pixels than that hairline 💀
Luigi with shocked eyes and angry eyebrows is a hilarious aesthetic
I can hear both of Captain Falcon kicks hitting just fine.
Head empty also applies for the mario mains
Neat! Looking forward to more of this!
I would enjoy a series like this
the stuff about the idle animations also applies to male and female byleth, as well as pyra and mythra
m! and f!byleth had different idles in FE3H, which is reflected in smash, with m!byleth's idle (sword pointing down) being the "default" that f!byleth uses before going into her idle animation (sword pointing up)
same goes for pyra and mythra, with pyra being the "default" idle (hand in front of chest), and then mythra briefly uses it before transitioning to her idle (hand on hip)
The glitches will live! Also lovely ocean outro🥰
I like this, I always read the Trivia sections for fun. I did it for every Pokémon
I found out the Luigi one by accident, Luigi did a dash attack and I threw a pikmin at him and he had 2 eyebrows.
That's really cool how Blood Falcon's logo changes depending on the language and I think he's the only character that visually changes based on language which makes him a really unique character.
Yes plz do more of these!
If King Dedede misses a standing grab, he will be extra suprised
9:30 King Dedede: THAT THERE KIRBAY IS NOT IN MAH HANDS, SURELY SAKURAI'S JESTIN'!
this was fun. do more please.
A bit late but the thing with Fox shield was that he was standing upright after his shield got hit and thus his head was sticking out of the shield making it extremely easy to shieldpoke him.
Pretty sure Larry Lurr pointed that out on twitter at that time
Loved it, FEED ME MORE!
Great Video!
I liked this type of video!
Thanks for the video :)
A miniseries of this would be great!
For the Pikachu voice clips, I think it’s not volume but that the battle quotes sound like it’s in an open room whereas the victory quotes sound like it’s really close to the mic or something (this can easily be heard on things like the phantom thieves’ quotes during a battle and the victory quotes, battle quotes make it sound like the characters are in a big open room cause of the stage, where like I said the victory quotes sound really close like in an enclosed room. Because of this the volume sounds louder on the victory quotes)
small thing, generally when there's a gap between two portions in a model, most of the time it's because there's a gap in the verticies, and rarely is it to do with the texture. It just gets on my nerves a tiny bit when it's referred to as a texturing thing.
I know 3 months I'm late, but just something about the Luigi face glitch
While fighting Dracula, I got some glitch where Luigi had what I interpreted as a scared expression for a solid ten seconds or so, while I was doing a bunch of actions. I thought it was a cool idea to make him scared for the fight, but once it went away I realized it was a glitch that didn't last. It happened in the middle of the fight. My best guess is some combination of curry (if it spawns in that fight), the expression of getting hit, and some other action canceling the flag to revert the expression back to normal. I haven't been able to recreate it, but I'm sure plenty of other people have had a similar experience.
Mario jumpscare at 1:26
for Luigi if you hold a small Item he will in fact revert to his ssb4 idle pose!
there are fights in the start part of the world of light jorney where the enemies are kirby for example the star rod spirit before the airport (sub area where you unlock ryu)
The transparency in the first trivia is not because it's untextured, there's just no geometry there. If it was untextured we'd still see some kind of placeholder material or like a distorted texture
13:30
I don't think Ness *was* revealed as a playable character, we had to wait for the 3DS demo I think that showed off the starting roster. And I think with Young Link and Mewtwo being cut for Toon Link and Lucario respectively in Brawl and 4, people expected Ness to get cut too, since they wanted Lucas to be the sole rep in 64 and Melee and only wasn't the sole rep because his game took forever to see the light of day
Link also has a duplicate voice track. I believe it's the voice when he throws his boomerang. There's a loud tone, which I assume is the actual boomerang track (and I think his first voice track if I remember correctly), and a softer tone, which I believe is also his last voice track.
What's weird is that Smash doesn't usually (or at least, doesn't always) censor "Hell" as a word. Sephiroth's dair is still called "Hell's Gate."
They do censor "damn" for...some reason, like in Mass Destruction from Persona 3. You can say "damn" in an E10 game. Might just be to keep things tidy.
So, Hell Hawk to Blood Hawk may be a localization change. It was for censorship a while back, but now it's just a consistency thing.
Sonic's voice when he gets into water is from smash brawl, it got carried over smash4 and ultimate despite getting a new voice
Pikachu failing a pivot grab is just like "lol"
Kirby's down-B only slides on one side of the Super Happy Tree stage. Fun fact!
cool Random smash fact: if greninga down smashes with any battering item(and some other items), the item will do a wierd flip or turn while greningas holding it
hope to see more!
Inkling's whiffing grab face is funny
I think that for pika one of the "jump" sounds could be from his up b. Not sure but i remember hearing the same "Pi !" when he quick attacks.
Commenting to help :D
I did not know heavy lifting backthrow animations were a thing. Well, time to start training mode with every character again.
Ooh! SmashWiki is the only place where I learn techniques from, other than fighting others
Neat stuff!
I like to imagine that kirby warped to another universe where he failed to stop galeem because suffer
Video starts a 50:32 . I know, I'm a hero.
Crikey! I edit there! You know, overly complicated and elaborate trivia is something of an inside joke between us editors; no-one can seem to agree on what's considered excessive.
Useless trivia makes my day
From my experience, I remember I would play on Training Mode and just use jab on Mario constantly. And yeah, his face does actually flatten up a lil.
They did have the "always facing the screen" thing in Smash 4, but it wasn't use for Yoshi until Ultimate.
Th weird thing about the first hit of that Captain Falcon move is my brain seems to fill in the blank. I see the kick so I can kinda hear the missing sound.
1:55 Proof that Mario is bold
That buffer stance actually looks like Marth's stance.
That's really cool
(0:35) Thank you. I hate that argument too. I have seen blatantly false information on other websites, with no contact information, and we should trust this more than Wikipedia that has the true information?
You already know we want *M O A R*
If Mario or Dr. Mario use their cape on an opponent that always faces the screen, they will face away from the screen. This also applies to Mii Swordfighter's Reversal Slash.
