I think the reason the ears show up after kirby’s inhale and similar things, is because it scales the character down to fit, and to hide the ears, the model’s scale is just set to 0 so you dont see them. So when they leave the inhale, the ears get scaled up, too
7:35 There's an upgrade in World of Light where you get a 2nd Final Smash whenever a 1st one ends. I imagine staleness would have a practical impact on its effectiveness.
I don't remember if this has been discussed previously in this channel but I know something about spirits that are affected by poison (Madama Butterfly, Gruntilda). While the easy way to activate them is with poisonous hazards in spirits battles, there are at least two other ways to activate them in regular battles. The first is using Yuri Kozukata assist trophy. When she attacks a fighter with one of those spirits they will be damaged but they will immediately activate the spirit effect (like healing with Madama Butterfly). The other way is hero poisoning himself with hocus pocus. Piranha plant poison breath can't do that because according the smash wiki it isnt classified as a poison attack.
I didnt even know the golden squeaky hammer existed every time I or an friend has gotten a golden hammer its been regular. I thought it was a gimmick where golden was better cause it wouldn't fail
I hate the squeaky hammer and I wish it didn't exist in the game. It just adds another level of randomness/unpredictability on top of something that's already inherently random (i.e. items).
I can come up with a logical explanation for why the ineffective Golden Hammer can be countered: The hitboxes used are still normal hitboxes, but programmed with no knockback or damage (which is why it can hit shields), therefore it can trigger counters.
^^ As opposed to windboxes which are handled differently. This also implies a damage threshold that must be reached on explosive items in order to detonate them, since the zero-damage characteristic seems to be the only difference between squeaky hits and other attacks.
5:33 Fun fact, this isn’t the case in Smash 4. If you do the frame by frame with the hammer in THAT game, the song will still play, and you can listen to it on repeat for as long as you like. 👍
Well, since we've discussed the thought that attacks add in damage that is on an invisible decimal, it's entirely possible that the squeaky hammer just does so miniscule damage that it could never possibly show up in a match.
Regarding luma getting tiny, it seems like she's still in the same z-axis (i think) level as the player - does this mean she can get hit while getting/being tiny?
I think the reason pk starstorm’s damage appeared to deal varying damage was because a couple of the stars were comboing into eachother thus adding up their damage.
You can also click the little joysticks down for additional lock screen sounds. Also, about the squeaky hammer, I would guess that when a counter is used, it starts looking for a HITBOX, not DAMAGE. The squeaky hammer is probably a combination if Fox's laser, and the normal hammer. The hitbox is still active, hence its ability to be countered, but it just does no hitstun, knockback, or even damage.
very cool video! while i was watching the part about Final Smash staling, i thought it might stale alongside neutral special in some way, but i tested it and they are considered different moves in the staling queue. same for battering item attacks and their respective normals. just for those who might be looking for this in the comments edit: also, you can counter Jigglypuff's sing, another move that does 0 damage
Remember that Fludd and Gust Bellows are also windboxes. Hitboxes that deal 0% still produce block effects, and can still be countered, hence why the same result occurs with Sing.
Did you know if Kirby inhales Galeen or Dharkon's fighters some of their weapons will be different for example Fox's gun will be light or young link bow will be darker.
Parallax, for reference, is an effect that causes the camera to properly move objects in the foreground and background around. In 2D games, it is often used to present the illusion of depth. In balloon fight, you can see the background moves with the camera 1:1 instead of moving how you'd expect something in the distance to look.
I think the reason you can counter the squeaky hammer is that the damage calculation is just multiplied by zero. this would get the shield hit effect as well. I have seen other games do this, like TF2, where if you use the rocket jumper with the conch, the health regen will be reset from 4 to 1 just like if you were to be damaged.
I'd like to bring up a point regarding Triforce Slash being called a "Cutscene Final Smash" at 7:41. "Juggle" Final Smashes (Triforce Slash, Volt Tackle, Great Aether, etc) and Cutscene Final Smashes (Blue Falcon, Team Star Fox/Wolf, Stampede, _*literally every fucking DLC character added to Ultimate sans Plant*_, etc) are two different things. The latter is what was described in a previous video, stopping the entire match just to play a short, static cutscene with little to no variance, whilst in the former people not caught in the crossfire can still move around and do stuff. Not that it comes up often since 1v1 matches are more of the norm than free for all or team matches, but hey, that's the point of this series isn't it? For pointing out random smash facts.
I think the reason you can counter the squicky hammer is because it still has a hitbox, just no damage attached to it, and the counter detects that hitbox, but, because there's no damage, the counter does the minimun ammount. The other non-damaging moves maybe don't activatte the counter cuz they are windboxes, not hitboxes
The golden squeak hammer is similar to Pac-Man hydrant on the ground cuz you can counter that one and the same shield effect appears even thought it doesn’t do damage
My guess regarding the items’ music, is that the music is loaded as sound effects, so the game’s actual background music just pauses when someone grabs these items, and resumes once they’re done, all so they don’t have to actually change the bg music just for when these items are used, and maybe that’s why it’s affected by the frame thing, unlike the bg music itself
I found a very cool thing! On only one frame, if u use kirby’s copy on inkling while they have the metal affect, they will T pose and lose there accessory, pink loses hat, light blue loses glasses, purple loses hair clip, darker purple loses helmet (he’s bald) yellow loses headphones and green loses the mask. The best way to do this is in training using frame by frame. I really thought this was cool and then I found this series and realised this was perfect for it! I hope u haven’t done it before. :D For some reason it doesn’t work on any other character I tried (about half of the roster) so u can try as other characters if u want
I think the golden squeaky hammer does hits because it needs those hitboxes to play the squeaky hit sound effect. It just doesn't do knockback and its damage value is set to zero. FLUDD and the gust jar aren't counterable because they are windboxes, which are completely different from hitboxes and as such cannot be countered.
I think the ears are just getting smaller instead of getting removed. Just like when you get eaten. So when your head gets bigger it also lets the ears grow
4:47 I don't know what happened, but I had this weird sense of urgency to know all about the fun facts about the hammers suddenly come over me. It's like, magic or something
And by the way, you can counter the golden squeaky hammer because it’s still classified as doing damage, but just multiplied by zero, like when the healing on the Concheror resets to one because you rocket jumped with the rocket jumper as Soldier.
Since the hammers do not stale, does the spicy curry stale? If it doesn't, then these items could be categorized as an automatic attack, whereas the battering items use attack keys
you know i never really noticed until you showed off PK Starstorm a bunch of times that the background during the move is like an earthbound battle background. that is a fun detail
You can intentionally drop a defective golden hammer or normal one by using diagonally angled cannons on custom maps and then tilting the right stick to toss it so youre not forced to possibly die when it happens (credit to my partner for custom stage editing assist on this find, he helped me perfect the solution). Do not angle the placed cannons straight down or you will bonk indefinitely on the ground, this is why you diagonally aim them instead
I’ve found something weird about chrom’s final smash with stale moves on after using it a couple times the first two hits will sometimes do more or less damage for some reason
4:25 TLDR: Squeaky hammer registers hits but 0 damage That's why it triggers hit effects like shield/parry and counter But the bomb items are triggered by damage, not by hits, hence why they don't pop
I have a fact for you: if you go on gaur plain, equip ScrewAttack and jump on the spring eventually the electric particles stop and it will just play you're spinning animation. Surprisingly the hitbox is still active even after the cap you can use ScrewAttack without hitting the ground. I did this with duck hunt and I'm not sure if this works with any other character but it's pretty cool
My theory of the Squeaky Golden Hammer counter is that the squeaky golden hammer has a hurtbox, with no damage value attatched to it, but rather a 'squeak' sfx. Because it is classified as a hurtbox, you can counter this, unlike FLUDD, which is a windbox. Not only this, but also it seems like it means that all damage-interactable items, specifically explosives, have at least 0.1% health. Now, every attack in the game will deal at least this amount, so most anything will blow them up on contact, except the squeaky golden hammer, it seems. I hope this helps make some sense/brings closure lol
My guess why theirs ears appear is because the size might get set lower and when the mii gets consumed it sets all of the sizes lower so the mii won't clip through the character eating them. Then when the mii gets released it sets everything back to the default size meaning the ears will get set back to the size they should be.
I think the reason the ears come back on the MIIs is that when fighters are eaten bits of their model are shrunk down to conceal them then go back to normal when released. I think that the ears undergo the same treatment when on a Mii with headgear. So when that Mii is eaten their head and head gear is shrunken to the size of the ears and when they resize to normal the ears go with them.
