Hey guys, this weeks tutorial goes over how to touch up and record amazing sounding vocals, I include which microphones I recommend and also how to go over these vocals once they're recorded. We'll use Adobe Audition CS6, but older versions such as CS5.5 and CS3 work just as well. Overall, you should end up with some really nice and crisp vocals for your vlogs, gaming videos, or tutorials!
    Equipment I use:
    AT2020 USB Cardoid Condensor Microphone
    Audio Technica Shockmount
    Editors Keys Pop Filter
    Desk Stand

This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. My vocals kept sounding kinda muddy and I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to take care of that. I made some modifications to your settings and found the exact effect I need. Thank you so much for making this tutorial.

It's always interesting to see what someone else does for processing voice recordings.
A note to newbies: if you find the narration difficult to understand, it's not you! The narrator uses some terms incorrectly and explains others inaccurately or inadequately. I suggest finding other tutorials for Audition. Try searching UA-cam for "adobe audition vocal editing".

In my recording studio, I use the MXL 990 condenser mic, and a Shure SM58 dynamic mic. Both sound phenomenal and I get awesome audio quality from both, depending on what mic I'm using for whatever situation...and they don't cost much at all.

Just to clarify fou you: an exciter generally adds harmonic distortion in small amounts which increases the perceived loudness of those frequencies being "excited".

I generally keep the microphone to my right slightly, so I can glance past most of it and see my monitor. I generally keep 2 fist lengths away from the microphone itself, and that usually works out pretty well. If I were you, I'd just keep recording clips at different distances from the mic, see which sounds best, then go with that. You can always turn your head while speaking, but usually I have to look over or around the mic!

Hey Rod, I'd highly highly recommend a portable microphone booth. You can check some out at editorskeys, they're pretty decent and cheap apparently. The booth should help isolate your voice without paying for a studio with sound walls. The AT2020 on its own, with simply you wrapping then putting the DB of the backing track down should work as well though. Hope this helps!

For anyone starting a gaming channel on UA-cam, I can't stress this enough. Don't get an xlr microphone as a starting mic. Get a USB mic. The one I recommend is the blue yeti, then when you have the money upgrade to an xlr. Do not get a $20 - $30 Chinese mass produced xlr mic when you do upgrade. Get one that is at least $100 or higher, and purchase a USB audio interface. The ones I recommend is the Rode NT1-A for the mic and the scarlet solo 2nd gen for the interface. This will be excellent for UA-cam gaming, and you most likely won't have to upgrade again, unless you become a UA-cam star, and I believe anyone can do that if they are determined enough and believe in themselves. The most important thing you must know is that it isn't look. It's all based on effort and self belief

there are many tutorials out from soundguys that can really help you. just search for "recording rap vocals" and "mixing rap vocals". practically you don't need to make yourself louder, this would just get you distortion at some point. you have to decrease the dynamic range. you can do that with a compressor. also google that. if you have a few hundred bucks you can get a decent quality home studio but don't expect studio quality with cheap gear and no knowledge. good results need practice!

Wow, this is GREAT! Thank you very much for sharing. Quick question, do you make any settings on the "GAIN" before you start recording or is that done via the settings menu in your General Settings area for Input/Output. Reason I ask is that I seem to have volume problems (too low) and when I boost to get them higher, I tend to have issues with quality. Again, thank you!

Would you know how to use Adobe Audition to record yelled vocals? I do some VO work and have to scream sometimes for lines. I usually send in the audio and the engineer will fix it, but I would like to learn how to do it on my own. Any tips?

    • @shameerali2188
      @shameerali2188 9 років тому

Hello Ryan i think this will be a combination of hardware use as well as the way the lines are delivered.
you will need to have a good p\mic pre amp / compressor and will need to work on your delivery so as not to over work the compressor whilst still sounding like you are screaming.
