A tip when making mistakes instead of clapping - if you have access to the keyboard while reading, just press the 'm' key on your keyboard and it will create a marker. Then you can go to the marker tab later and have easy access to all the marker / mistakes you made in a list with timestamps and easy access.
Super long comment coming up. I've spent about the last 4 hours watching all your videos taking notes.. I've been getting so turned off watching all these youtubers because they have morning routines, their videos are so HD and background music and it's just so in your face like. Like i'm already down in the dumps why do you have to rub it in my face that you have all these things and taking so super long just to teach me 2 basic things i could've read off the webbsite. YOU SIR!! Keep it so simple. Even after being so successful and pro. You are so relatable and motivating. You get right to the information and you really make me feel like i can do it. STICK TO THE ESSENTIALS. Golden advice. If you read this far. You're dope too. Thanks.
Hahaha well I'm honored. Watching your adobe audition pt 2 video now..Thanks Bill!! @@VoiceCoach-BillDeWees Here's the link to anyone that reads this comment: ua-cam.com/video/endtkLc7o8A/v-deo.html
Excellent introductory video, Bill. The reason for 48k over 44.1k for sample rate isn't about quality, it's purely about compatibility with video - 48k works arithmetically with various frame rates (24, 25, 29.97 etc), whereas the "CD standard" of 44.1k doesnt. If your audio is accompanying video, then it has to be 48k as the standard choice.
This is great! You teach in a way where I don't feel like I have to know everything. You explain what I need and make the information incredibly easy to take in. Thank you for making such amazing videos!
Yep, just as I expected, more excellent advice. I've been making music since the reel to reel days as well, NEVER have I heard a professional admit that you only need to know a fraction of any software to get by. You’re exceptional Bill. Thank you.
Your comment about being a master at reel to reel brought back a load of memories from my days in TV. Our format was Betamax and after a decade of cutting highlights for mine and others sportscasts, I was a master of the Beta. I could cut a 2:00 feature in 8-10 minutes. I left television when they were experimenting with digital. I saw that, as you saw audition as daunting and frightening.
I'll be buying a bit of a starter set up soon this year and have been listening to all your videos as I walk around on patrol. You cover a lot of really great info that not a lot of other video makers have covered or haven't covered in a great way - eg: regurgitating nearly 5th grew same exact info in slightly different ways. Your advice on making the different types of recordings and how to go about making them is priceless.
Thank You So much for this wonderful tutorial @BillDeWees! I am just beginning all my research into becoming a voice over talent and have purchased Adobe Audition to get started on my demos. Do you have the link to the “follow-up” video you mentioned in this presentation?
Really enjoyed this vid Bill, I landed on Adobe audition because it reminded me of Cool cuts from back in the day, super easy and fun to learn on and cab edit a bit to create a clean read. Love your station and thanks for all the tips!
This is great! I was going to ask Alex if he would do a complete tutorial on Adobe Audition...and here is the Master Himself putting one together! Most excellent Bill!
A great way of teaching. I am totally unaware of all kind of audio video technologies. Got a project which involves audio. Seen many videos for beginners audio tutorial, but this one is the best among all videos. Great job!
Reel to reel, grease pencil, razor blade, kart machine, recording satellite feeds......learned it in Broadcasting school. Queing 45s.....coming up with an intro in the time before the first lyrics...
Using an MX990 mic, I feed to a Zoom H5 recorder and record to an SD card. Then I move the file into a folder in the computer and address the file in the software. Have been using Audacity, but am looking at moving to Audition.
Instead of clapping, I always yell loud in the mic for a second and then keep going. Can't miss that spike and i know to check the stuff right before it lol. Thanks for the solid advice!
Thank you Bill. The timing of this video couldn't have been planned any better, as I had - let's just say - an interesting recording session experimenting with Adobe Audition for the first time, earlier today.
I'm new to the voice over game and I definitely have Bill to thank for the knowledge. The one thing I wish I knew was when to use the default screen, the audio to video screen, or the radio production screen; or does it make a difference for voice over. I don't do music; at least not yet.
I’m thinking of switching to Adobe Audition after struggling with Logic Pro. (Logic is way more complicated than I need, and I can’t figure out how to export (dual) mono! And recently it’s become glitchy and weird. I don’t need that kind of stress! 😂) After much research, Adobe Audition seems like the way to go to simply accomplish what I need. Thank you for these tutorials! ☺️
Hii!! Do you have a video on how to clean up our audio? As in make it sound as if I am in a sound booth. And mainly what I would like to know, what is the best way to export. The number thingies 😅 and what type is best for auditions and to give to clients. I have now idea what it’s called sorry. Wav? mp3? MP4? 😢 Thanks!
I also forgot to ask, I heard people watermark their audio for auditions so potential clients don’t use their work. How is this possible?!? Watermarking an audio!
Bill thanks for a great video. Please show us a simple way to add background music and SFX to a VO project. Lots of videos make that process seem very difficult.
💯 AU is so radio and VO friendly 👍 Used it since the Cool Edit days. Have you found a way to save a file in AU while you’re listening to the file? I can’t figure it out in the latest AU. Not a huge thing … I’m a bit OCD I guess.
Jon, I have gotten in the habit of clicking file > Save after each edit. This helps me feel comfortable that if everything crashes, at least the most recent changes are the only ones lost.
Crazy, because when I got my degree in Communications in 99, we were required to turn in our radio assignments on DAT, Reel and via a file saved into ProTools. I started using Cool Edit Pro shortly after and used it until 2010 when I upgraded to Adobe Audition.
Hi there, I'm about to retire and doing my research to get started in VO. I can't find an answer to the this question... can I record to a digital voice recorder SD card, and then import that to Adobe Audition and make the corrections to it that you talked about in this video?
Great video. Wish I had this a few months ago! On another note, I’ve seen this “clicker” method a lot from a number of people. Is there a reason people do this instead of just hitting “M” to drop a marker? Is there some drawback to just dropping a marker that I’m missing?
Hey again Bill, quick question about cleaning up clicks & mouth noises. At the 23 min mark, you explain how to go into Effects, then scroll down to Noise Reduction / Restoration, then choose Click / Pop Eliminator. Does this editing feature come w/ Adobe Audition or do I need to install Izotope RX 9 to clean my audio files w/? Thanks!
Hi from Chicago here, I would like to give audition fr background voice fr documentary films in English. Any centre in chicagoe where we can directly go fr a trial
Good video - however, nobody should be using 16-bit to capture a recording in 2021(+). If I understand correctly from the Adobe Masterclasses with Jason Levine, it has more to do with having access to additional data during the editing process (without introducing artifacts). At the very least, it should be 24-bit.
yeah I am trying to make my editing much faster. i feel like I go over a 10min audio 3 times to perfect it.. then again to listen to the lossy version.. need a faster approach.. maybe im just being over critical...
I totally feel you about REEL 2 REEL editing with the razor blade!!! Thanks for hitting me where I live. Would you please do a video or advise on how to format a voice wave to conform to ACX saudio book narrations? Specifically, how to do these two things: "Each file must measure between -23dB and -18dB RMS. Put simply, all files must fall within a specific volume range. By keeping all files within this range - not too loud and not too soft - listeners won't have to constantly adjust the volume of their playback device. *****Each file must have peak values no higher than -3dB. By leaving this headroom you'll reduce the possibility of distortion, which can reduce the quality of the listening experience. This headroom is also needed to ensure files are successfully encoded." "H-E-L-P!"
A tip when making mistakes instead of clapping - if you have access to the keyboard while reading, just press the 'm' key on your keyboard and it will create a marker. Then you can go to the marker tab later and have easy access to all the marker / mistakes you made in a list with timestamps and easy access.
Fantastic tip!!
Omg thank you! I always just yelled into the mic. Hitting the M key will definitely be easier. I appreciate you!
Wtf.. bruh you are a lifesaver

Bill, Just got Adobe Auditon. My brother, Butch, encouraged me to start listening to Bill DeWees. Thank you for the great information.
This is great! You teach in a way where I don't feel like I have to know everything. You explain what I need and make the information incredibly easy to take in. Thank you for making such amazing videos!
Relaxed and informative with no BS....great stuff. Thanks Bill.
I too remember splicing tape in the production room and I sure do miss those days. I really do.
Yep, just as I expected, more excellent advice. I've been making music since the reel to reel days as well, NEVER have I heard a professional admit that you only need to know a fraction of any software to get by.
You’re exceptional Bill. Thank you.
Thanks so much Bill... you keep us who are doing Vo work on track... Most appreciated... Be well
I have been looking through a lot of videos Bill and yours is the first one that made it simple for me. Thank you !!!
You're welcome! Great to hear that. 😁
You have such a great way of speaking, Bill!

Yet AGAIN-Bill has answers to questions I didn't even know to ask! Bill, you are THE BEST!! MANY thanks!
The philosophy that you share is the best, your videos are amazing!
I like to think God heard my prayers and inspired Bill to make this video. Thanks!
Thanks, Bill. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much. You really want us to succeed!!! You are amazing!
SO grateful for this video and the way you convey information, including what we *don’t* need to worry about as newbies. THANK you. 🙏❤️🌟
Thank you so much. Easy and straight to the point!
Skip to 8:10 for the actual tutorial
Thanks, Bill. You're a true gem!

After a few brain-melting audio processing tutorials, this one was a refreshing change of pace. Looking forward to seeing a full workflow in part 2.
thanks, it actually let me through so i could download it.

High-five for being in the Cool Edit Pro club! I've used that and Audition for years to mix music! Thanks for your tutorial!
This is great! I was going to ask Alex if he would do a complete tutorial on Adobe Audition...and here is the Master Himself putting one together! Most excellent Bill!
Sound advice, Bill, nicely done as always.
Thanks Bill for a Fantastic Beginners Guide to Adobe Audition. I’m 1 step closer to signing up. But 1st, I’m gonna watch your follow up vid.
Very informative, not overloading my brain with useless stuff, only essentials that i need. Terrific job!
Great advice!

Another great video Bill, thank you!
Thank you for slowing it down Bill.
This was really helpful! Glad I found your channel. Thank you, Bill.
Bill, you provide useful information for emerging voice artists that others pay hundreds for. Thank you for reaching out and helping others!
Reel to reel, grease pencil, razor blade, kart machine, recording satellite feeds......learned it in Broadcasting school. Queing 45s.....coming up with an intro in the time before the first lyrics...
Jeez I'll never forget using the Studers with the chinagraph pencil and splicing block ... Good oul radio guys
I was always taught to record no higher than -6db so the client will have more headroom to work with in post.
Thank you Bill. Great session!
Hello, which of the two is better to reject plusive, Rode SM6 , Rode SMR Shockmount ? Metal or regular ?
thank you so much it is amazing video great job

It's really cool idea to find the recording mistakes with a clap sound. It will be easier for me to locate the area to be edited.
Thank you
Glad to hear that helped! Many people also use a dog clicker. Play around with different methods to see what works best for you. :-)
Crazy, because when I got my degree in Communications in 99, we were required to turn in our radio assignments on DAT, Reel and via a file saved into ProTools. I started using Cool Edit Pro shortly after and used it until 2010 when I upgraded to Adobe Audition.

I'm 71 now and still using Cool Edit Pro. Is that wrong?
Do you record with Audition, or use another device and then move a memory card?
can you make an episode on post productions the audio files on audition?
on the multitrack? :)
Great video. Wish I had this a few months ago! On another note, I’ve seen this “clicker” method a lot from a number of people. Is there a reason people do this instead of just hitting “M” to drop a marker? Is there some drawback to just dropping a marker that I’m missing?

Hi there! The Click/Pop Eliminator does in fact come with Adobe Audition. No need for any third-party plugins in order to use it.
Thank you Teacher
I am seeing 48k 24bit as the standard now.
where is part 2 of these videos?
How much storage does your laptop need?

They act like they're creating audio for the SETI program.
Thank you!
AMAZING
Where is part 2???
If I go up to -3 db, my mic picks up EVERYTHING, like things I can´t even hear with just my ears.
Just for those who might be curious (I´m using a Shure SM7B, and a GoXLR Mini)
what if I record my voice then convert it to a woman's voice, can you do that?
That's definitely possible with a voice changer & modulator.
STILL... the best DAW. Those who say otherwise have an agenda.
Kinda spends about 20 of the 26 minutes telling you what he's not going to bother telling you. In terms of actual info? About 5 mins
And for those 5 minutes . . . you are most welcome! :)
10 minutes into this video before he said anything useful...I moved on.... will return later.
