  • My tools are not very well organized in my garage, so I finally purchased a rolling tool cart! Specifically the U.S. General 30 in. 5 drawer Mechanic's Cart from Harbor Freight. In this video I unbox the tool cart and show you how to assemble it. I also give you my first impressions and review of this $200 (with coupon) tool cart.
In my opinion, this Harbor Freight Mechanic's Cart is perfect for the avid automotive DIY'er!

I added two of the folding tables on each side. I was heavily considering the snap on cart with the dual sliding top but for $2500 vs $250 different carts overall but now I can buy $2000 worth of tools to pay the bills and put food on the table. And fuckin good whiskey after a work day of swearing at other people’s cars.

I have 2 of those. They are awesome. Pretty sturdy. If you are going to be rolling it around a lot I would recommend tightening the bolts extra tight or put thread lock on them. They vibrate loose sometimes.

awesome vid, appreciate it. Bought the red version recently. I found a nice piece of 3/4 wood, cut it to fit the top and sanded it smooth then mounted it to the lid. Makes the top a much better mobile work bench and the top shocks are strong enough to still lift and hold the lid.

Just picked up mine on Monday. My wife gifted to me. And got it on special for 249. Regular price is 289 now.
Thanks for the video. Just got done assembling mine. The bolts and nuts to the post was a little frustrating since the bolt wouldn’t go right in, so I just use my power ratchet and went right in. You guys definitely want to leave the nuts loose to have some room to adjust when you put the chest tool box.

I’m planning on getting one of these boxes when they go on sale again. Next time harbor freight has a parking lot sale I’m gonna pick one up. I’m gonna upgrade the drawer liners. Probably gonna get a cheap yoga mat or something and then just cut it to size. Definitely can’t beat the price for one of these. A similar setup from snap on is almost 1,500 bucks, which is way out of my budget.

I just finished putting one together. I was alone and just flipped the top section over and slid the bottom part over it and put the 2 hex bolts in then flipped it all right side up and finished putting the rest of the bolts in the top. Its not ideal but it worked for someone doing it alone and not wanting another hernia.

I've got the newer version with the black casters and black bolts. You don't have to open the lid to open the drawers. Just close the lid with the drawers already open then the drawers can close. They won't click into the locked position but you'll at least be able to close & open them with the lid down. I would assume your version works the same. Also on this newer version the unlatching mechanism is the full width of the drawer, not just one lever at the end.

They put the long bolts with the lock washers in mine instead of the short ones so it’s telling me to use the nut bolt and washer with the long bolt but it wasn’t even in that package 🤦🏽‍♂️

Not necessarily; it's the supermarket shopping cart configuration.

@@gotmilk91 it's not bad for lighter stuff but the cart will easily weigh 200 or 300 pounds and would be easier to navigate tighter spaces with the casters on the handle side

Got one yesterday . Opened the dox . we waited for weeks for it to come in. was no visible damage to the box . But when we opened it it was bent up real bad. Was lose nuts and rivet heads every where . Seems it had been slammed around so bad that the lid had been sheared off. I fixed things the best we could . Riveted the the door back on straitened the bent legs And box , Almost feels like we bought something used. I think every thing from this place may be ok. but they need to assemble before customer receives it. and then things may get shipped and handled in a better fashion, and manufactured. . My big tool box was fine . This is a piece of garbage. the lock also did not work. The latch and the catch were about 1/2 inch out of alignment . QC is very much lacking on some of their products. Would not buy this again.

It's unfortunate but Harbor Freight is not good to order anything shipped... Though it should be. It is always recommended to go into a store if possible, but this is not doable for everyone so it is tough. Sorry you had this experience with an otherwise fantastic price vs quality for most of their items.
