Great review! I'm an engineer with a background in science, physics and a number of other disciplines in history, technical writing and electronics. So I may have a deeper appreciation than others. I did know the US General was a better quality purchase, but didn't realize how poorly made Husky tool boxes are by comparison. Husky isn't a brand name, its I believe part if a conglomeration of Stanley (not American) products made by different manufacturers. Husky hand tools were formerly manufactured exclusively in the United States starting in the 20's but are now largely made in China. US General is misleading although its quality is purportedly controlled by a higher standards from the US is also manufactured in mainland China. Historically speaking, America had the best manufacturing in the world but the trade agreements signed in 90's allowed China to purchase manufacturing and they did which would later be shipped to Asia decimating our manufacturing independence and 100 years of proven American quality. The hit to manufacturing jobs is still being felt throughout America's manufacturing industries and may never recover. America used to have some amazing engineering and it's sad we let that legacy go along with the jobs and knowledge we had.

Easily the best tool reviewer on UA-cam! You’re really taking the “cheap” stigma away from HF tools. It seems like they really started improving the quality of their tools over the last 10 years. I saw the Husky at Home Depot and was impressed and felt it was a good value. I does have some attractive features however the US General is a step above and built to last I feel. Thank you for the in depth review.....well done !
The best tool reviews on UA-cam, I wish a US Tool manufacturer could offer a good tool box like this at a affordable price for the US worker. Snap On, Mac, and MATCO tool storage boxes are real nice, but cost the price of a used automobile. Who has that kind of money????
I know harbor freight is considered "cheap". But because of these reviews I would literally have no shame cruising up with the us general tool cart (the one always compared to blue point). These reviews are by far, some of the most useful things to watch when looking for any size box
I use a blue HF cart in a Diesel shop. No issues at all except I don’t have enough room lol. Upgrading to a matco 770 cart for roll around use but I’m waiting to see if the 56 or 72 will come in blue sometime soon. Only thing coming so far is a hutch for the 72 according to a manager at HF.
classic287 Yeah, properly used, HF and all other decent-quality tools can be used daily and in a professional-environment. Most people who break decent quality tools either don't use the right tool for the job or they are using the tool in question in an abusive manner.
I'm sorry please don't compare harbor freight with Sears harbor freight wipes Sears ass I haven't purchased anything from Sears in 40 years. And now Lowe's is selling Craftsman tools I still won't buy them. I've been a harbor freight tools fan for 10-15 years now I will go out of my way to shop at harbor freight tools.
I don't know why this video was recommended, I'm not a mechanic or anything, but it was still very interesting. I figured the Husky would beat the US General, boy I was wrong!
Anyone looking at HD for a toolbox doesn't know the first thing about quality. They just want a large volume. One thing this reviewer didn't examine is how smooth the drawers are when fully loaded. Also the depth os these boxes compared to Snap-On style true 24" deep boxes makes a huge difference to store larger power tools.
My broader point is that HD used to offer quality, and HF had the cheap tools. The US General box is twice the HD for the same money and that is a shame for HD. My 56" USG has been loaded to capacity for several years now with no problems. I am under no illusions that it is a Snap-On box, but then again it was 1/8th the price.
I realize this is an older video, but have you considered doing an update video, to see how they have held up over the years? Also, Husky has now introduced three tiers or levels of boxes, from normal/home, heavy duty and professional levels. I'd like to see a comparison
@@detonator2x I'd only get between 1200 and 1500 for the 5 main boxes. I'd rather just give them to family and friends that could use them and just upgrade to the US General. I may just grab one 72" around tax return time. Then just put a couple of my Husky boxes in my basement.
Jeff Parker I,ve seen a lot of your videos and yes you do have a lot of Husky Tool Boxes and it sucks that you paid all that money for them and then see in this video just how bad they are made.
Great vid. Huge difference in the boxes for basically the same price point.. If you want a stainless top on a box pick up a piece of 11ga and then you still have the useful lip around the perimeter..
I bought a Husky tool chest a few years back that seemed pretty well built and it came with a nice looking faux wood top. I am impressed with the Harbor Freight comparison!! I saw those chests a lot but never really looked close at them.. Thanks for the side by side in depth comparison....
Well yeah guys who finance a 40 thousand dollar tool box, fill it with 60 grand worth of financed tools, all after going into 35 grand of student loan debt to UTI, to make 45 grand a year are pissed that hobby guys can get a similar setup for about 12 grand. Lol
@@sparkysurvivalist9507 Snap-on used to pride themselves on quality and USA production. Now, much of the tools they sell are the same as the competition; made in Taiwan. There are only a few tools from Snap-on that are must-haves, the rest can be replaced by significantly cheaper tools.
OMG now that is one intense review. Great review and thanks for telling it like it is. I am an old man now (80), so I wont be buying a tool box any time soon. For years I worked as a mechanic and worked out of a Craftsman tool box with all craftsman tools. I worked next to a guy with a Snap On tool box, of which he paid a small fortune. He had every tool under the sun and was a very good mechanic. One day I came to work, and he had quit as a mechanic and was working in the parts department huh ? The Snap On truck guy loved this guy, as he always bought something off that truck. Now what really got me was a young guy working LOF and purchased a Snap On tool box just to change oil. His tool payments were more than he was making, and he soon quit and lost everything. Three tool trucks came by every month Snap On, Mac, and Matco. I worked there at that Oldsmobile dealership for about a year, then went into Law enforcement, where I retired after working 11 years, due to an accident. After retirement I began shopping at harbor freight and bought some very good tools. The price was right and HF sure has improved over the years. Yes HF has some made in China junk, but not everyone can afford made in USA. PS, Oldsmobile went out of production as we all know. I am a retired US Army officer w/ 20 years, Vietnam Vet with two purple hearts and retired Police, so I do well. After retirement I bought a huge tool box from COSTCO, can't guess where it was made, but has served me well. I enjoy watching your tool reviews, knowing I will see a fair honest review. I understand this review is about HF vs US Husky. A guy should buy what he can afford and gets the job done. ..Ken
Ron Paulk a big You Tube guy who has a great reputation and a true craftsman, carpenter, photographer, and many others I am sure also bought tool boxes from Cosco. He loved them. I would have never consider Cosco and didn't even know they sold them till Ron had them on his channel. Take care Kenneth.
Kenneth welcome home and thank you for your service. I hope the VA is good to you. And anyone who isn't should be fired it seems like Donald Trump is doing a lot of good things for our vets like they and you deserve if you don't get treated with excellence let the public know we must stand behind our heroes.
Thank you for your service and sacrifices to and for this country your a true American hero thank you sir I stand to salute you god bless you and your family
Well that settles that debate. I have been comparing the husky box to the harbor freight one in my mind for the past week trying to decide what one to get and I was set on the husky until I seen this. The fact that the us general uses heavier gauge steel and bolts rather than riv nuts settled that one .
Had a Husky top box for about 20 yrs. Used it for field work too. When I got a bigger top box I gave the Husky to my dad. He mounted it on his welding truck. It was on his truck for at least 10-15 yrs and it was still on the truck when he finally sold his truck and welder. Tough box. The drawers never did break down or crack.
This review makes me laugh (in a good way) years ago I bought the HD 52" box. It buckled and collapsed one day from the tools that I had stored in it. The weight in the drawers were ok, but the bottom of the box had such thin gauge steel it couldn't handle the total weight and said it had enough. I never really looked into it back then because it was so cheap between it being a dented unit and getting military discount. I've since upgraded to a snap on box, but I'll tell ya, for the money, I'd take the HF over the snap on.
I'm not in the market for a tool box this big however I can definitely appreciate the quality of the US General box. Your review was very thorough. Thank you for taking the time and sharing with all of us.
Check out us general’s 5 drawer tool box. It is exact same build quality and materials just different dimensions. All of us general’s tool boxes use the same build materials and quality across all their boxes, all that’s different is the dimensions
I have been a mechanic since the mid 70's and own 95% Snap On . I have tried others and always gone back. The past couple years I went from automotive to Heavy Equipment and needing new tools that I can trash I started buying Harbor Freight and I have noticed a difference in their quality. They are improving but I have never considered Husky to have anything other than poor quality. Good review.
I have Snap-On as well and I can tell you, even though I'm not employed as a mechanic and need the convenience of a Snap-On truck every week, the value of Snap-On has gone down over the years as other tool companies have emerged. Capri, Gear Wrench, Astro and several other makes are carrying much more value in their products when compared to Snap-On and the tool truck convenience. No question Snap-On are quality hand tools...however, I can find a comparable long 1/4" ratchet wrench for about $80 less than the Snap-On and be just as satisfied. These US General tool boxes are quality sturdy sheet metal and have great features that truly make one wonder why they would spend twice or three times for other makes.
Thanks for making the Yukon/USG vs Husky videos. I never would have thought HF had a better tool than HD and was going to buy 3 Husky cabinets so I REALLY appreciate your videos ... very detailed and thorough comparison!! Your audio sounds REALLY great on your videos ... what camera, mic, editing software do you use?
The HD buyer will never se this review before it's too late. R=They will sell that garbage all day long to the casual DIY'r that just wants a large cool looking box.

I have been shopping at Harbor Freight for many years now, I've always felt that what I've purchased has been a good quality for the do-it-yourselfer and if I've ever had any problem with the tool I simply take it back for an Easy Exchange no questions asked if you do not have a Harbor Freight near you it is very easy to purchase online and shipping is generally quicker than indicated
I own a Harbor Freight 41" wide bottom cabinet, 41" wide top box, and a 16 1/2" wide side box. I've worked out of them for 13 years, and never had a problem with any thing. My total cost was around $1000.00 for all three boxes. MONEY WELL SPENT!! I'm retired, and when I think back to the days of multiple tool boxes, some tools here, some more over there, some under a workbench, etc., I wish I could have bought these, a really long time ago. AND all my U.S.GENERAL, toolboxes, roll with ease any where I needed them, to work on my BIG TRUCKS!! (simi's)
@@delvalservice6283 it just depends on what he is doing. I don't buy a whole lot from harbor freight, the quality sucks for the use i demand out of a tool.
For starters, which tool boxes are us made? Craftsman? The HF box is better built than my craftsman 40inch. Snap on? It's not worth the price. I refuse to pay SO's inflated prices. As for the tool quality, some is junk, most is decent and some are outstanding. Anything black impact is is outstanding. I've been a heavy truck mechanic for over 40 years and I use and abuse my tools to get the job done. 5 years ago my box got stolen and HF is the only way I've been able to afford to rebuild. Air tools are decent, and very good for something that may only come out of the box a couple of times a month (my 1/2 inch impact is a nitrocat). Chrome sockets and extensions, some junk some decent. Quite a bit of stuff I get off the Internet.
Their Pittsburgh pro line is better than most crap sold at lowes and home depot. Really good for the money. The new Icon series is suppose to be really really good but isn’t cheap. But is a good deal for what you are buying.
It is not a real tool video, if the host/narrator is not hollering, and uttering "Here's The Deal" over n over n over, and giving shoutouts during "reviews". lol
I recently bought a rolling tool chest from HF and it cost $480 with tax and it weighs 300 pounds empty. It is the BEST BUILT tool chest I have ever seen! You can feel the difference how much more flimsy all other tool chest are how they perform empty and especially when they are loaded with tools. HF, US GENERAL boxes are a no brainer, they are AWESOME!!
I have a US General 44" and have had it for about 15 years and guess that it is the better box. YAY!! Ive really been happy with my Gen 1 44" box. Id like to see them make a deeper drawer version than the 22" with soft close drawers! That would be a for sure buy for me! Great review!
AlphaFox38, almost 15 years for me also. Never have had a problem. A former co-worker had a Husky box, and it didn't last 5 years before it began falling apart. I have the 44" top and bottom box with two side drawers cabinets. It has ample room for my needs.
Very informative. I have a General smaller box that I keep in my motorcycle trailer, got to love them locking drawer latches. Husky falls way short for a brand name.
My son has the 60" Harbor Freight tool box. I want their 72" box after seeing the quality of his tool box and now watching your comparison. Your video convinced me NOT to consider the Home Depot tool box.
This was very helpful to anyone thinking about getting a large toolbox. I do like what I saw here, and I will keep that in mind... Go ahead pass it on!!!
Impressive for harbor freight!! Impressed! I will definitely consider them for a tool box!!! Love all the colors too! Thx fir great review!! Very professional!
I'll keep that in mind lol. However I already have plenty of storage for all of my girlie stuff so I bought my big tool box at HF. No, it's not SnapOn (but it also ain't Tampon!) but it's well made and gets the job done for my work needs. I take care of maintenance issues at work among all the other hats I wear and do all of my own mechanic work at home as well.
Harbor Freight put this video on the website for the US General box, informative that the coupon at 12:45 show Halloween 2018 expiration date. And the price is 1099 (with coupon $999 ) and now on 9-1-2023 the box is listed at "clearance" price of $1199. I'm not longer sure it a good buy but the box is almost sold out. Only located 2 in the coastal SE from SC to St. Augustine, FL. And I haven't seen any recent coupons for toolboxes. Very helpful video and the kind of publicity that causes makers to improve products. Oldest trick makers use- make it look good on the front hoping customers don't look underneath. Lipstick on a pig as is said. Husky isn't competition unless significantly less costly - like half the price of the US General.
I agree. Husky is almost always pure junk. Hopefully they change suppliers eventually and release high quality boxes. I’m guessing videos such as this one might motivate the executives a bit more than a few extra dollars of profit, but we shall see.
I have been wanting to replace my 1970's Craftman tool boxes for years. I built a trolly frame on wheels to load 2 tall stacked Craftsman boxes together just so I could get my tools closer to the projects without having to walk all the way across my 60' wide shop just for one tool. Even added one of the Harbor Freight hang on side box on it and that HF side box, with it''s roller bearing drawers, outclasses those old non ball bearing Craftman boxes. So been thinking of just yard selling the Craftsman boxes off and putting some hard earned cash on the 72" HF Box with the big top box. Have it figured that almost all my tools will fit in that set up. Currently using 6 Craftsmans spread all over the shop now. Each with specific tools for that area. Well, almost. Thanks for the review. Now to just find a Coupon to get an even better deal on them.

FINALLY someone who understands what i want in a review! All this stuff i cant find despite looking, and unfortunately i cant spend my time buying, setting up, and testing so many tools. so thank you for doing this for me!
I’m happy you liked it…. Thanks!
Well narrated video. Very informative. Enjoyable to watch as opposed to most utubers.
Using the word “thorough” here is an understatement. Lol
Well done 👍🏽
I used to be so proud that I owned so many Snap on and Matco tools. I still have them, but I now rock a lot of Harbor Freight stuff with no shame.
One of the best reviews of any product I've ever seen. Well done sir!!!! Subscribed!
This might be the most detailed review video of any product I've ever seen. EXCELLENT. You could teach people how to do reviews.
Thanks!
Harbor Freight is my go to place when I need a tool for casual use. Satisfied 95% of the time.
classic287 Yeah, properly used, HF and all other decent-quality tools can be used daily and in a professional-environment. Most people who break decent
quality tools either don't use the right tool for the job or they are using the tool in question in an abusive manner.
OBServe Garage, That’s good to know, thanks
tickyul, That’s very true...
@@classic287 Your initial comments were bordering on hatehype directed at HF tools, please reconsider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tickyul ???
Just the VERY BEST VIDEO ON THE BOXES 100 points It looks like Harbor Freight will become the new Sears.
I knew who would win having gone through this last year, but, your review was out standing.
I don't know why this video was recommended, I'm not a mechanic or anything, but it was still very interesting. I figured the Husky would beat the US General, boy I was wrong!
Son Goku I thought the same tbh, but like always do a little research before making your purchase
Honestly Husky tools are for the "I think I am a diy er" but barley do anything before the wife calls up and has it done for you.
THIS GUY NEEDS A RAISE .. this review is top notch
Haha thank ya my friend 🤣
This is why I subscribed to your channel, a complete and non biased review. Great video and thanks for sharing
Home Depot should be embarrassed to offer such junk
Home Depot is about profit margin...
No profit if consumers don't shop there. Ask Sears how that worked out
Lane Shurtleff he never goes into that detail especially on the bluepoint vs HF roll cart review…
I realize this is an older video, but have you considered doing an update video, to see how they have held up over the years?
Also, Husky has now introduced three tiers or levels of boxes, from normal/home, heavy duty and professional levels. I'd like to see a comparison
I have 7 Husky tool boxes. You just ruined my morning...thanks. lol
Jeff Parker you should get 3 HF boxes. Lol
@@sideshow45 lmao, no doubt. Believe me, I have been contemplating making a switch. I just wish they made the 72" in black or blue also.
You could pay for the HF boxes for what you get out of selling all the Husky boxes.
Good comparison, you hit all the key points I was interested in.
I bought a Husky tool chest a few years back that seemed pretty well built and it came with a nice looking faux wood top. I am impressed with the Harbor Freight comparison!! I saw those chests a lot but never really looked close at them.. Thanks for the side by side in depth comparison....
HF is going to kick azz! The quality of everything in the store is going way up
Philip Rosenthale hopefully prices don’t go up because of it
Philip Rosenthale I was really impressed going in the first time
They may raise some prices, but it's new lines of higher quality stuff... the 14 dollar angle grinders will always have a home there.
I agree esp. Alot of the power tools. IE. Bauer. Drills and other tool kits.
@@nitchmakes7550 they are all ready gone up compared several years ago but so has the quality
thanks for spending the time and effort reviewing these tool boxes...
This is one of the best UA-cam channels period!!!
Hell yeah he's working man like the rest of us.
I have to admit harbor freight is killing the game and snapon guys are pissed lol
Well yeah guys who finance a 40 thousand dollar tool box, fill it with 60 grand worth of financed tools, all after going into 35 grand of student loan debt to UTI, to make 45 grand a year are pissed that hobby guys can get a similar setup for about 12 grand. Lol
@@matthewr2361 snap-on is straight up robbing people anyone who buys from them regularly is brainwashed
I started looking at these videos cause i thought snap on was king.... Sadly looks like they dont make high quality tools anymore.
@@sparkysurvivalist9507 Astronauts and aviation techs use snap-on. Doesn't mean the rest of us have to
@@sparkysurvivalist9507 Snap-on used to pride themselves on quality and USA production. Now, much of the tools they sell are the same as the competition; made in Taiwan.
There are only a few tools from Snap-on that are must-haves, the rest can be replaced by significantly cheaper tools.
Probably the most thorough review ever posted, great job!
A guy should buy what he can afford and gets the job done. ..Ken
if that boxx is stainless it maybe a Knight Box I got one years ago and its an amazing box that has held up and still looks new.
And anyone who isn't should be fired it seems like Donald Trump is doing a lot of good things for our vets like they and you deserve if you don't get treated with excellence let the public know we must stand behind our heroes.
for those of you who don't already know this but most tool boxes are made in China including Snap On.
Thank you for your service and sacrifices to and for this country your a true American hero thank you sir I stand to salute you god bless you and your family
OUTSTANDING review - very surprised and impressed with the quality of this video, thank you!
Great analysis pointing out the significant differences and also give details. Super video.
Thanks for the great review and now I know where my next tool box is coming from.
This video took a lot of work and it shows, nice presintation. Well done..
Merry Christmas Real Tool Reviews.... Your content is missed. Hope you have a wonderful new year!
Thank you my friend…. Merry Christmas 🎄
Well that settles that debate. I have been comparing the husky box to the harbor freight one in my mind for the past week trying to decide what one to get and I was set on the husky until I seen this. The fact that the us general uses heavier gauge steel and bolts rather than riv nuts settled that one .
AGREED and the fact that
US General finishes their tool box on the inside .. Big Plus on that👍
It looks good but?
THIS is how you do a review! very thorough, well done.
Yea I have this box and love it. My bosses snap on is very nice, but I can buy 10 of these for the same price.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. They honestly do help me a lot.
Excellent effort, unbiased and in-depth.
Thanks! I use a canon XA30, Yeti Blue, and Final Cut Pro on an iMac. 👍
Now that's what I call a review. I bet Home Depot is pissed. 😂
Who cares. This isn't tools in action, where you have to worry about what you say because of an advertiser.
They SHOULD be pissed....at their buyer.
The HD buyer will never se this review before it's too late. R=They will sell that garbage all day long to the casual DIY'r that just wants a large cool looking box.
The Husky Torx driver set is made in the USA and is cheaper than the Kobalt set made in China although the Kobalt set at Lowes has one or two more drivers, bring our manufacturing home that will support American workers.

I've often thought of buying a larger box from harbor freight now I know the tool boxes are a good buy, great review thanks.
That was an amazing amount of research. Wow.....Thanks.
Had to stop watching when you were trying to get the husky next to the wall, that was enough for me lol. Great video as always!
(simi's)
I'm saving up for the Harbour freight box, I'm about half way there
Then you got to save up to fill it.
Please buy an American made tool box, it will last longer and is better manufacturer
@@delvalservice6283 it just depends on what he is doing. I don't buy a whole lot from harbor freight, the quality sucks for the use i demand out of a tool.
go git it
For starters, which tool boxes are us made?
Everybody always thinks harbor freight brands are cheap and terrible, but that obviously isnt the case here.
most of their tools are decent for the money. they now have added top quality product lines but your going to pay for them (icon and others)
They absolutely were garbage 15 years ago though take that into consideration....
Stuart Luig not in years tbh. Like 10.
They are definitely good.
Their Pittsburgh pro line is better than most crap sold at lowes and home depot. Really good for the money. The new Icon series is suppose to be really really good but isn’t cheap. But is a good deal for what you are buying.
That was one of the most detailed and complete comparison/review videos i've seen and you didnt waste time with random chat.
It is not a real tool video, if the host/narrator is not hollering, and uttering "Here's The Deal" over n over n over, and giving shoutouts during "reviews". lol
This is one of the best reviews I have seen. A+
I recently bought a rolling tool chest from HF and it cost $480 with tax and it weighs 300 pounds empty.
Wow! What a great review. Thank you so much for being thorough. Most reviews are so half-hearted. Thank you sir.
Wow, you do a phenomenal job reviewing tools. Thank you!
Thanks a lot!
Recently, I examined the General top box at Harbor Freight. I found it a quality product. Thanks for this comprehensive review.
You do amazing tool reviews. Thank you sir
These reviews are awesome. Please post more often.
On the soft close, you better buy a few extra slides because they give out in a few years. (cabinetmaker for over 40 years)
I hate soft close slides. So annoying.
This was very helpful to anyone thinking about getting a large toolbox. I do like what I saw here, and I will keep that in mind... Go ahead pass it on!!!
Your review pushed me toward the General. Ill get it in couple of weeks. That is a review. Thank you.
Having seen the harbor freight box in person I’ll say harbor freight
Never would have thought that the General would have been a better box than the Husky. Thanks
Impressive for harbor freight!! Impressed! I will definitely consider them for a tool box!!! Love all the colors too! Thx fir great review!! Very professional!
husky tool boxes are only good for holding your makeup and gardening equipment while you are out purse shopping.
Nick Ridgway Now that's funny!
Hey bro you forgot to mention and good for holding your thongs but we really don't need to know what you do with your husky tool box to each his own😂

@@tickyul hey bro your Rhymes are wack I think you smoke crack i use my Harbor Freight Tool and it keeps my wallet fat!!
I'll keep that in mind lol. However I already have plenty of storage for all of my girlie stuff so I bought my big tool box at HF. I take care of maintenance issues at work among all the other hats I wear and do all of my own mechanic work at home as well.
HF has improved their manufacturing, and they listen to videos like this. Nice review
Such an awesome review! Sounds kinda like I'm watching a motor week video 😊
Why don’t you post anymore? Your videos are very nice I would love for you to start posting again.
Thanks, you made my choice a lot easier. I was just looking at them both last week. Now I know the US General is better made. Great video
You should do a comparison with the big Mastercraft box from menards
I have mastercraft 36” upper and lower. I wish i had bought the HF 72” “workbench” box.
Thanks for your videos that's really helps me to understand conceptions between those two brand name toolsboxs.
With such detail and effort in making this video, how can I not give you a like and this comment.
U.S. General hands down, ive seen both in person
Yep, based off what you found id say i was right
I have been wanting to replace my 1970's Craftman tool boxes for years.
