    I was searching for ways to reduce the airflow around my roll-up garage door. Now that I have heat and A/C, I don't want to lose it to air leaks. I think this will help.

      Ok, so now you have had this for a while, how is the seal working and is it keeping out the air?

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  3 роки тому +1

      @@jimd7855 It's still doing the job. The only issue I've seen is the side that is in the sun, has some of the outer bristles curling a bit. Not enough to affect how they work though.

    I watched the manufactures demo video on this product but it's good to see it installed in a real-world application. This spring, Lord willing, I'm starting my garage project, a 22' by 22' . also will have a 16 by 8 roll-up like yours.

    Thanks for the idea. My door came with rubber strips. Right now, I'm not sure how they are to be installed as the instructions do not mention the strips. But, I'm sure I will figure it out. Also, I plan to watch your video on installing a split HVAC system. I need that for my shop. Thanks again. Very helpful.

    It would be interesting to use a thermal imaging detector and test the before and after temperature differences around the door perimeter to see how effective the brush seal is.

    Very informative, thanks for the video. I was also thinking about ordering the 2" brush with only a 1.5" gap. Was good to see how yours fit. Unfortunately I have a pad lock latch on one side to deal with also. The one thing you might want to do as a final touch ti wind that door spring a little tighter now, but make sure it doesn't go up to hot.

    Top brush seal gives me issues with the motor. When closed, the brushes(70mm long to cover the gap) are just touching a 'hump' on the roller door. Then when open, the door is slightly larger in size obviously so it changes the angle it enters the door tracks, closing the gap significantly.
    This means the brush seal is squashed quite a bit and then reversing door motion means the initial start(and pushing the brushes back the other way) cause a significant shift in the door. It's often tripping the door motor on torque, OR it's actually caused the door to bind and jam requiring effort to free with 2 people.
    It's a long door(double garage) so the shift of the full seal length is a problem.
    Not sure what the solution is here. I'm height limited so can't do much with the physical door itself(can change tracks or roller height etc)
    I could add a strip to the door opening and drop the seal down a couple of inches to a point where door geometry changes less while open/closed, but will probably look awful.

    Very helpful video. Looks like all those brushes might increase wear on the door motor, or maybe even your arms though!
    Will the top brush leave vertical stripes on your door after a while?
    I had considered doing the same thing, but in the end, as I wasn't moving vehicles to and fro from my garage any more, I decided to buy a cheap and cheerful sliding glass patio door and fit that external to the roller door. This gives me top notch insulation and a second level of security. I left the roller door in place just to put off the thieves as it blocks their view into the garage and is another problem for them to deal with! It does look odd, but the aim was to improve insulation rather than aesthetics, so it is what it is..... It's also not much more expensive than buying brushes which only partially improve the insulation.
    Tip: If your screwdriver bit keeps jumping out of the screw as you tighten it, that should tell you something....

      The door is manually operated only. It does increase the load, but it also helps when I want the door part way open. I may only open the door once a week. The extra resistance holds it nicely. Not sure on the stripe.

      Thanks for clarifying things. In your situation, I think I'd have fitted the brushes as you did. My door gets opened and closed a lot. Now I can leave the roller door up most of the time, and use the patio door for most of the in/out flow.
      Thanks again for replying. Thumbs up mate!

    Hey Jo! Bit late to the video but if you're still around I was curious how this effected the movement of the door! I couldn't quite tell if it was just the way you rolled it up and down yourself, but it looked somewhat like the bristles gave it some significant resistance, I'm just a little worried because I have an electric garage door and I don't wanna blow the thing up as it struggles against my attempt to cool the place down haha thanks mate! Great vid, love from australia!

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  Рік тому +1

      I could feel some resistance, but I think it was because it was all new. You can adjust how tight you want the bristles to be to the door. The bristles did conform to the door and it was easier to open. I’m still happy with the product.

    Interesting product. I wonder how those will stand up because those rubber seals on the flat doors get brittle and fail over time too. Maybe even on a traditional flat door these might be a good choice.

    Definitely better than nothing, but you're probably losing close to as many therms through the door as you were losing from that gap. I'd say a door upgrade is likely in order at some point.
