  • Techie? Maybe not so much, but this is a project I'm going to appreciate next winter when I'm doing projects in my garage (some of which will be techie). In this video I replace the rubber seal on the bottom of my garage door, which would be pretty simple if the garage floor at the entrance was level. Unfortunately the concrete slumps on both ends, so I had to add shims to contour the seal to follow the concrete. Hope you find something here that is useful and interesting!

You did a great job with this video. I liked the idea of the shims. I have 3 garage doors so it would be sort of expensive for me. I'm not trying to keep the 'cool' out, I want to keep the heat out. haha Thanks.

This is a great video for people that have the bad cement issue. Nicely done. :)

Good stuff. I've heard that lubing the T-shaped groove (eg, white lithium grease) can help pull and feed the gasket all the way if you're doing it alone. One concern I'd have in your case would be rot getting at your wooden shims because of rain, snow, or ice. Covering the shims with a good coat of exterior paint could perhaps extend the life of your entire system.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of using lithium grease but that would probably have made the job much easier. The wooden shims were made using treated wood, which will probably help, but your suggestion of exterior paint sounds like a good idea. If I can get to that before winter I'll probably do that...

Using plastic shims would be optimal if yall talking about wood shims..... cedar shims resist water a bit better too.... just started the video though

Yes, plastic would be ideal, and probably worth the extra cost over the long term. Thanks for the comment.@@Ayesuh

Thanks for the comment, and your interest in the guitar. But the guitar actually is something of a family heirloom so I can't sell it. Sorry.

Which kit did you use? How much did the materials cost. Not knowing the cost is one reason why repairs often are postponed.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. I didn't use a kit. I just went to a local garage door service company / supplier and purchased the parts based on their suggestions. I believe the parts cost about $100 CDN but it might have been a few dollar more than that. (So probably under $100 USD.)
