  • I've been battling the Florida heat in the new garage space in the yarn building. I want to get new high efficiency commercial garage doors but it seems it will be at least 6 months before I can get some bought and installed. If you can get me some doors & installed ASAP, please let me know!
    As a temporary fix, I'm using a product called Reflectix. Reflectix is a foil roll that gets stuck to your roll up for with spray adhesive & their Reflectix tape. You can find it on Amazon below: amzn.to/3v3QhwP
    I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to hold the Reflectix to the garage door. You can buy 3M Super 77 here: amzn.to/3mI1OxV

    Matt, you can be really proud of what you have achieved and will achieve. You have formed a wonderful team and I am happy that through my small purchases I can contribute to the further development of your obsession... continue like this... 👍

    I have doors like that. This looks like the best solution for them. Mine are hot in the afternoon and if the wind blows, that rattle terribly.

    Did this years ago to save time and money and it did the job very well for me here in south Florida. Now all I need is a mini split on a budget lol

    Good videos Matt, I am working on enclosing my 6 car carport and looking at putting on carriage doors, I had no idea how many garage doors are out there

    If you run or swipe the edge of your bank card or drivers license edge on the aluminum speed tape you will get a clean even press of the tape. I fix airplanes and use that tape a lot.

    It may have helped some but that style of insulation needs an 1 inch air gap to reflect properly. If you are touching you get convection.
    Here in Canada I have had that insulation on my garage doors for years but I use it to keep heat in. By touching the door I am not worried about covecting heat in.

    How thick is the Reflectix you used? I see it in 3/16 and 5/16 thicknesses.

    I want a new garage door too.. but I'm not sold on cutting flashy plastic mailing wrapper and glue. Maybe if SAVA cures "forgetful" I'll just buy everything... fingers crossed or I'm washing with the hose.

    I can't tell if you are making progress or if you will ever be done with anything. Good Luck - keep charging.

    Matt, looking at it from a residential garage. what do you think about putting it over the foam panels for an added barrier..?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  2 роки тому +1

      I was thinking about that. Put it first on the metal panel, then put the foam over it.

    With cars inside a ac controlled area when is OG going to do a video on exhaust fume blower systems so you don't have to open the doors when running vehicles inside.

    Not sure if 6 months is an official time you were given by a distributor, but CHI is at about 8 weeks lead time for that door. I work at a door dealer in California and rolling service doors aren't nearly as backed up as residential and commercial sectional doors.

    Wrap the insulation

  • @carlj4992
    @carlj4992 2 роки тому +2

    So no issue when the door rolls up? The thickness of the insulation wraps around the roll up drum w/o causing any stress to the roll up motor/chain?

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, no issues. I've had it next door for several years.

    In USA they insulate to keep heat out. In UK we insulate to keep heat in !

    How has the glue held up? Glue has a max heat range, and i know my door hits about 130 degrees. I've used spray adhesive on some stuff, and it has come apart. Has any come apart. I'm thinking a mix of double sided tape and the adhesive. Thoughts?

      I've saw someone use liquid nail on the raised sections. That won't come off.

    If you open and close it daily, how long does Reflectix last?

    • @ObsessedGarage

      I've had pretty good results with it. I've had it on for 2 years, and it's still going. You may need to add some glue and tape every so often.

      Since you have more room to fit better insulation, you'd be better off doing that.

      I did searched this topic a few months ago, there is a benefit to add this to a home garage door windows or without insulation. I’m having a house built with a west facing garage. I plan to add this as summers in the south are not great.
