Going through your videos from oldest to the newest. Found you through your shrimping video. Up in JAX and love your Channel. Thank you for all you do and are doing sir!
Nice rod! I love ugly sticks too. Sheephead are awesome and fun to fish! I fish em the same way you do. Sometimes you can see em feeding on barnacles on the top on high tide. That was in Jacksonville Florida.
Hey man just came across your video. Been doing my homework on sheeps and you are very in depth! Looking to get on my first ones soon, I’ve been catching most all inshore fish and have yet to get on sheep. Thanks for this video! Tight lines!
Thank you for watching..I hope it helps..also look at some of my other sheepshead videos.ive learned a newer trick since I made this video..I now use bottom sweeper jigs for sheepshead and it is a game changer
Thanks for the tips. I will have to check the bait camp and see if they carry the sand fleas and crabs. I fish over oyster beds a lot, but I don't know how to open a live oyster to bait it. I'll have to goggle it. But I troll a rattle trap for reds a lot when I'm moving around in my kayak. In the last couple of weeks, I have caught 3 sheepshead trolling the rattle trap. I'm moving about 4 mph, so I feel the hits and sometimes it feels like I miss a few before I finally hook up. When I do, they are hooked very well. I still don't horse them in, because the wire treble hooks on a rattle trap are easy to break. Can't wait to start jigging some crabs over those oyster beds.
can,t wait to get out fishing my wife and i just bought a winter home in Ormond beach went out to Cassen park one day the fish weren't biting that day i will be back in dec. to try again . thanks for a great video.
Hermit crabs do make good bait. You have to break them outta their shell. They’re really good for redfish. We use the along the big end of the Gulf of Mexico
I have never fished for sheephead but am about to try due to this very clear and succinct tutorial. Thank you for giving your knowledge with patience. One question...I live in the Tallahassee area and wonder if there is anywhere kind of close to start out. I am not far from Panacea and St. Marks. Thanks again for the time you spent doing a this!
I use a floro leader with a Palomar knot. I find that it helps me feel the bight. I just leave a long tag and tie the weight to the bottom. I put my mask on and went down, it seemed a better presentation on the jetty and bridge piling. I still tie a Carolina on the reef, I have been using one of each. My results are inconclusive though. I generally go barnacles or fiddlers. I like quartered blue crab if the bight is good. Seems to weed out the small ones. Get a lot of black drum and reds on the blue crab though. Not a bad problem to have.
@@johnwilliams7352 a lot of great information there thank you for sharing it with me.. I agree black drum and reds are a good by catch..good problem indeed. Tight lines brother
Hey Mike. I am a new subscriber and I must say I am very impressed with your channel. Great info on the bait, thanks. I just received a 7' Ugly Stik Elite in medium/fast action paired with a Penn Slammer III 3500 as a gift. I know the reel is way more than enough for sheepshead, but what is your impression of the rod? It isn't nearly as stiff as I thought it would be. Do you think it will be suitable for the sheepies?
Hermit crabs are great baits we call them soldier crabs in jamaica they catch everything here snapper jacks never tried it for snooks and tarpon tho but permit loves it
Awesome tips brother and man that sheepy was HUGE. We hook our fiddlers the same way also for black fish up here. Love that up and down technique it makes a lot of sense
You're welcome brother to get the huge ones you have to make the ocean wreck trips here but was telling the kids one day we should head down to Virginia as they're big down there no matter where you go lmao but they do give a heck of a fight when you have a nice one and the best eating by far in my books
Another excellent and informative video Mike! I noticed the shovel in your boat. Do you scrape the pilings very often to chum up the sheepshead? Thanks and Tight Lines, Ken
Oh. hey, Getting warm out and kids wanting to go to the waterpark. I normally take them to SeaWorld's Aquatica, but dang man, I could drop wife and kids off at Daytona Lagoon park and go fishing with you. ???
JETTIE ROCKS FISHING with MIKE D amongst hundreds advise, yours make sense. No wonder shrimp no longer effective since all species will beat out sheeps to the bait. Thanks sir!
Hi. Where do you buy frozen fiddler crabs? None of the bait stores I called around the Corpus Christi area carry them, and they tell me they are not on their beaches to self catch. Help! I want to catch sheepshead!
Im not sure you can buy them...i usually freeze what i have left over from each fishing trip...try frozen sand fleas..or you can also try mud crabs..blue crab knuckles..oysters..mussel and even barnicles..hope this helps..good luck
Try hermit crab i hear ppl catch a lot using them here in galveston i caught a 25" sheepshead on a piece of blue crab while fishing for drum at seawolf park here in galveston funny thing is its the only one i ever caught and everyone i talked to said thats giant for a sheepshead it was fighting like a 30lb black drum and it tasted great. If you ever go to galveston look up seawolf park i work there and thats where i fish good luck.
sam zapata Oh nice! And thanks! I was planning to go to Seawolf park but that tanker spill happened the very weekend prior. Do you work in the front office, Sam?
Im actually maintenance at the park. I get in free so its my go to spot lol. Theres hermit crabs in the rocks in the park. We usually catch blue crab a couple miles down the road and in an hour Il have about 30 blue crab. The last 5 or 6 times Ive been me and my wife caught a few 20+ lb black drum but there catching a lot of specked trout, flounder and ive seen a few red drum get caught.

I went for Sheeps for the first time on Sunday and 3 times the dam fish bit the hook in half lmao. Need thicker hooks
