- It is that time of year where the Sheepshead start stacking up along the jetties to spawn. Ruben and I made a quick stop at the local bait shop right before heading to Packery Channel Jetties. The morning started off a little slow, it took a few hours before the Sheepshead really started to bite but when they did the bite was INSANE!

I so loved this amazing video! Ruben and Matt you guys are “Bad to tha Bone” on fishing techniques, rules and regulations, spikes on shoes so that a fisherman can walk on those slippery and slimy rocks, helping the couple out from Temple, Tx. and most of all for being exciting for all fishermen and fisherwomen on their catches. I also enjoyed watching you guys cooperating with Game Warden and showing your upmost respect!

Thank you! We had a lot of people ask us what boots we were using this day and we had to let them know that Korkers was a must for us to fish jetties when the rocks are covered in algae.

You know the game wardens know where the fish are too every body was catching them it makes sense for him to swing through there and do some checking 😂 nice sheepshead though heck of a day
If only that was always the case. Early on there was a handful of people near us that were upset that we kept on pulling in Sheepshead after Sheepshead and they couldn't get 1 and we saw them on the phone with someone so who knows... They should probably check more often to be honest though. Thank you!

How deep did y’all set the bopper?
We were fishing about 5-6 feet deep. That's why other people that had fixed floats on were only fishing 2 feet deep and weren't getting nearly as many hits as we were.

He was actually really nice, we have come across others (just like any other profession) that aren't so friendly.
I’m the type of person that if I’m not catching anything and someone else is, I ask him first tips in those places most people are friendly and having good time
Exactly! In other videos we explain what lures to use, what bait to use, how to work the lures, what bait rigs to use. I also bring up if other people are near you and they are getting bites/catching fish and you aren't, try doing what they are doing and if you aren't sure try asking. Usually people are friendly enough to explain what they are doing. That being said if they check out slip float video, that goes into great depth on the rig we were using.

Since always (at least in Texas). A limit is what you can take home with you, nothing in the TPWD book that says you can't continue to catch fish and release them back into the water and also you can still keep fishing for all the other species that are out there such as Redfish, Pompano, Black Drum, Flounder, etc.
You can limit out because there are other species of fish. You're not guaranteed to catch nothing but sheepshead.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing so what happen when you gut hook a fish you already limit on and that fish you were suppose to CNR died... toss the dead fish back in the water.? I guess if the DNR don't see it it's cool...
@ImionsaeXwb77 if that happens you can just cut your line and leave the hook in the fish instead of trying to remove it, the survival rate is better that way. We have caught several Redfish that had stomachs full of soft plastics but no hooks to be found.
Those stripes fishes look like datnoid fresh water fish mostly found in Thailand and Indonesia? Some people in my former country call them tiger cause the look stripes like tiger and also agressive like it
Oh wow, that is super interesting to hear! I just looked them up and they do look very similar. We used to fish with my dad's friend's wife who was from Thailand and she could really fish. She loved to fish for Kingfish off of one of the local piers here and she made some awesome shark jerky.

We got 10.5 pounder few weeks ago. The sheep runs about over now. They're bout all spawned out now.
Now that's a BIG Sheepshead! The largest one we got this day was 7lbs and the average ones we were getting were 4-5lbs. Yeah we're waiting for a different species to show up. Something with a little bit more pull.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing That big one fought like a big slot red. Biggest we ever caught was 12 pounds. It actually ate a 1/2 oz rattle trap. I been in the sheep game for 35 years so we logged a lot of hours on the water.
@@notaliberalfromcali6245 Usually this time of year we are targeting Jack Crevalle and Kingfish, we prefer fish that have a little bit more pull. That being said these Sheepshead were a lot of fun to catch and even tastier to eat.
Sheepshead: The recreational bag limit will be lowered to eight fish per person, per day year-round. There will be a recreational vessel limit of 50 fish per vessel, per trip during March and April.
What's the limit per day?
5 per person per day. Minimum length of 15 inches and no maximum length.

@Crimson171 because the biologists at Texas Parks & Wildlife believe that that is a good limit to have for them to insure the fishery is sustainable for the future using the information they have such as Gil net surveys.

From my experience a lot of the Game Wardens are fellow outdoorsman themselves, whether it be fishing, hunting, camping or hiking.

The limit per day per fisher WITH a license is 5 per day on sheepshead. Your video taking more than the bag limit? is evidence in court. Its a regulated fish because they can be over fished, then there will be none for anyone. Shame on your dude! SHAME!

I don't think anyone called the game warden on you. Those fellas look for licenses where they are needed. They glass you up from 300 yards and watch you violate and run in for the check. Just take the limit of legal fish and you will not have anything to cry about. But now you are on their list of violators to look for. Be prepared to feel more like a victim.
Why cut off the barb an put it back without its protection
They live without it and it’s safer for people especially since that one was close to the beach and people are swimming. They do that here in the gulf and it’s dangerous if you get hit by one so it’s for humans safety. An animal is not more important than a human life
Barbs grow back and to be honest, if that barb was not removed, the gentleman that caught it would have more than likely been stung by it because he did not know how to properly handle it. What usually happens when a Stingray stings a person or another fish, the barb is venomous and made to dislodge/break. The unfortunate side effect to that is it can leave some nasty wounds in people, causing them to go to the emergency room and have to battle infections for sometimes up to several months.

@Irsauditor4320 you're welcome. Unfortunately, some people aren't aware of it and they end up cutting the whole entire tail and unlike a Geko, the tail does not grow back. As far as eating I heard that some people do eat them and supposedly some restaurants serve the wings up as "scallops". What usually happens when a Stingray stings a person or another fish, the barb is venomous and made to dislodge/break. The unfortunate side effect to that is it can leave some nasty wounds in people, causing them to go to the emergency room and have to battle infections for sometimes up to several months.
