  • Today I wanted to explain one of the most important concepts I've taught that has the power to change your flip tricks forever! The opposite pressure effect is often the unrealized key to our problems with flip tricks. Learn how i've discovered this technique and how to use it to master tre flips, hardflips, inward heels, varial heels, nollie heels and much more.

      I agree on the opposite pressure tip, but I disagree on the physical explication. Actually in treflip the front flick is quite minimal, you rarely need help with that (in particular if you scoop as this guy with a good part of the shoe off the board). In fact many persons do not even flick with the front foot, they scoop in such a way the board do a kickflip motion on top of the 360 rotation. The pressure with the front foot could still be of some help but for a different reason: for general balance, for keeping the board under your body and for a spring effect exert by the trucks and the board at the moment of scooping which minimize the underlipping motion you need to do with the backfoot (achieved with the part of your backfoot shoe that is hanging out of the board while scooping). The effect described in this video could be useful in other tricks where the board flips mainly because of the front foot flick, which therefore have to be solid or in double flips. I take advantage of it in heelflips because my heel flick is still pretty weak (for me double heel are impossible).

    • @0skie
      @0skie 2 роки тому +1

      I see, personally I would rather learn with an emphasis on the front foot cause I feel like it would be less sketchy to do it this way down stuff. However if try to do it like that I completely mess up my balance and my scoop so I'm doomed to learn it only with the back foot

    This is actually groundbreaking when it comes to fliptricks tutorials : most people explain the tre flip with that fucking "scoop", but when learning tre flips I feel you have to rely on that pressure effect, else the full trick doesn't come in motion... You need to lean on your toes. Thanks for the really helpful tips, especially for the hardflip, I always sensed there was some pressure thing involved and figured some peeps 'overused' it (placing their back foot over the edge like say Giraud) but I couldn't actually name and explain it to myself, you just did :) THANK YOU, keep it up skater mate!

      I can land tre flips great and I still think that the "scoop" explanation is not very good, and I still don't understand what it's supposed to mean to "scoop" the board. The way I do it is more like a steezy 360 flip and it relies on the pressure points thing almost more than any other tip.

    The pinch is major. It’s helped me a lot. Thanks! Something else I realized recently is flicking your ankle at the beginning of the trick. It makes the board flip really fast and immediate. Before I thought of sliding then flicking, but that’s too slow and inconsistent.

    • @kwote
      @kwote 2 роки тому +3

      @@pierrekk It’s not before sliding. It’s while sliding. The idea is as you’re dragging your foot across the grip, your ankle is bending and then flicking out. Technically it’s bend the ankle, slide the side of your foot, then flick out, but when I think of it like that I’m too slow. If I slide and flick at the same time, everything coordinates better for me. Maybe it’s just personally helpful, but it really works for me, so hopefully it helps others.

    Another interesting trick tip on a vaguely related topic would be the alleyoop effect of paradoxically pop/scooping tricks “away from themselves” a la backside or frontside flipping sort of toward their respective lipslide directions. I over worded the hell out of that but I’ve found this maximizes pop and catch. I realize it’s kind of just a mental hack and a long way to explain staying centered but it helps me. Even tre flipping “backwards” as if going into a bs 5050 makes my tres tighter and more controlled.

    Shane O Neill can switch tre double flip cause of this. It's mostly all because of the pressure he puts on his toes in the back foot.. once he pops the board already wants to switch tre(without even flicking), so now he just add a little extra flick(you can notice when he does it he doesn't even flick that hard,and his flicking foot is placed way up the board)

    You don't need to flick your front foot for 360flips at all, like Ellis Frost does them. It's the compressed rear truck unloading itself abruptly, springing up against the ground when the scoop pressure is released, sending the board into kickflip rotation.
    360heelflip (lazer flip) also does not require front foot if you take advantage of this technique, as it's the same rotation as the tre really, only mirrored. Instead of hanging your toes, you keep only your toes and the ball of your foot on the board, and use that to load the truck to the opposite side (to your tre), then scoop frontside, with your toes.

    The Old Trucks Squeaking -- The common fix for squeaky bushings is to put some soap or wax inside of the pivot cup bushing. I wonder if it's okay to spray some lithium grease because I did not want to take apart my trucks and it seemed to do the job.

  • @EarlGreyTeaR6

    PLEASE HELP!! Can you make a video or explain in the comments the following issues. Whenever i bend my knees to pop any trick my back foot heel always rasies upwards, and i only pop with my toes. This frustrates me so much and i hate the way it looks. For some reason i cant keep my heel flat as i have no power to pop. Do you know whats the issue?

    • @SKATEHACKS
      @SKATEHACKS  2 роки тому +1

      That’s fairly normal, because the power of springing yourself off the ground comes from your toes, not your heel. Even if you start out flat, when you pop, you MUST spring off the toes to even get anything because that’s where the power and precision comes from. But If you’re already setting up with the heel raised that’s just a habit and there’s no easy way to undo what you’ve sunk into for months/years etc except for the painful labor of correcting yourself at each chance to form a good habit instead. Therefore the problem with not having your heel flat at the beginning is just an aesthetic problem, because right when you pop, you’ll need to spring up from the toes anyways

      In theory, Its not about your effort because a skateboard is less than 5lbs. Anything heavier has control over it. Youre 190lbs you should be dominating it. Your issue is technique. I think technique goes into weight distribution and foot placement. If its underflicking your feet arent set up right, or your flick timing is off. Your weight is ok because your said your centered. My advice is dont flick harder, flick it right ( in the sweet spot.)

    • @SKATEHACKS
      @SKATEHACKS  2 роки тому +4

      That’s true but in my opinion it’s not practical to those who are new to tres. The mere presence of the front foot is necessary even if it doesn’t move, because the back foot will complete the scoop and shove the board into the front foot, even if it is not moving, causing it to collide with the board and cause the flip. If you also flick a little, it can make a difference.
      Flick a lot, and you can get a double/triple tre. Not flicking is characteristic of someone who’s mastered a tre. Like Luan or Felipe Gustavo. You could apply it as a beginner but you it might look low/slow like WhyTheTrick. It’s a good video but I think it’s still ok to motion a small flick or at least extend the foot out. Hard flicking is unnecessary though

  • @tylerthompson8554

    Feel like the arrows in the thumbnail are misleading on tre flip plus foot position ( dont get me wrong the foot position is right, just misleading to the direction of the flick and scoop) so if you scoop how the arrows are telling you to the tre will almost always land behind you

    • @tylerthompson8554
      @tylerthompson8554 2 роки тому +1

      The back foot scoop you want to scoop behind you but in a forward direction if that makes sense, it also helps to not flick your front foot up more straight forward or almost down since you want to be in the back seat for this trick
      Edit: also remember skateboarding is a full body sport not just your legs so your shoulder position and weight on the board is probably more important than the scoop and flick itself

    You literally explain the counter-pressure required for mostly all tricks, absolutely backwards my man ;) but no offense; people who understand this cant explain it in layman's terms.
    To use your example, in a 360 flip the pressure is on the front foot until you're about to pop, in which you shift that weight almost completely off the front foot onto the back foot/pocket just before you pop. You don't ride with all the pressure on the back foot as you allude to, you shift the pressure there immediately before you pop, so most of your weight is on the front foot to begin with.
    I get what you're trying to say, and I'm sure the above is what you do else you'd see no results; but you just deliver it incorrectly :)

      I don’t think you understood the video. The point of the video is the counter pressure of toe side vs heel side, not front vs back foot counterpressure. No, the weight doesn’t need to reside on mainly the front foot before the tre. They can be equal and the back foot is increased to pop. But it’s irrelevant to explain that as well, the point of the video is the toe/heelside aspect of certain tricks, specifically at the pop.
